    I've just built this kit for a "Malinovka" diorama and it is a beautiful kit to build .
    All the parts are ready for priming and I'll be using the new Atom paints .
    Having built 4 Tiger 1s with another 6 in my stash I highly recommend this kit by Takom folks.........don't delay buy it today 👍👍👍

    Great new Tigers by Takom, but the tracks can go directly into the bin. Teensy attachment points for the guide horns that promptly bend over and fall away when you try to put the tracks on the tank. Also it's almost impossible to keep from gluing the links to Takom's supplied jig. One other warning, try to fit your top deck as soon as you get the radiators and fans in because they can easily be installed in such a way to interfere with the deck and keep it from sitting down properly.

    • @derekbaker3279
      @derekbaker3279 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't given the tracks a try, but I can see that the attachment points are small. I wonder if a certain type or specific brand of glue would make attaching the guide horns less frustrating.🤔

    • @peterespada6226
      @peterespada6226 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This may take more time, but when attaching the guide horns, “flood” the horn with liquid cement after attachment, then wait overnight for it to dry hard before any further handling.

    Hello to you sir! Good to see you post a video. This is a busy time of season for someone in your profession. I have two early Dragon Models Tiger I kits, the initial production with side bins on the turret, Leningrad front and the "Afrika" Tiger in Tunisia 1943. Currrently working on the initial production kit; lots of parts & lots of road wheels! Also purchased a set of Friulmodel tracks, the "mirror" tracks used on the initial type.

    A really good review. This is clearly a very detailed modern kit that should make an accurate model. It will be interesting to see what you make of the build.
    The one thing that bugs me is the link and length track. Clearly this is well detailed and accurate but it makes building a model rather limited. I like to make dioramas of tanks traversing uneven ground. It ads a bit of movement into the model and this is very difficult with the length of tracks being perfectly straight, especially one under the wheels. I have tried various ways to make the tracks conform to uneven ground but without much success. I usually resort to aftermarket workable tracks. Its a shame this model doesn't have workable click together links.

    • @derekbaker3279
      @derekbaker3279 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree 100% regarding limitations with the link&length tracks, and I am rather ticked-off that RFM has decided to do the same with their new Wittman 007 kit!🙄FWIW, I find completely workable tracks or 100% individual links (e.g. Dragon 'Magic Tracks') less frustrating than link & length tracks.🤔

    Thank you for posting this!🤔Although I am not addicted to the Tiger, I have some diorama ideas, so have already ordered Takom's Tiger '3-pack' AND their follow-up '2-pack' as well, so this kit will be one of them. 😀A few more thoughts...
    IMHO, there is nothing wrong with an open-box tour of a kit, and yours was much more than that, as your commentary included a lot of fascinating info that I'm sure every non-expert appreciates learning about Tigers, including yours truly! Kudos!👍
    BTW, in addition to the error in the rotation of the commander's cupola, apparently the Tiger experts out there have identified a rather baffling dimensional error regarding the rear deck of all of Takom's Tigers. (..tsk, tsk Takom..a careless cock-up with Carius' kit? lol..) Oh well..ideally, an aftermarket company will address that issue to sate the expectations of the most ardent of Tiger fans...)🤔
    On the positive side of the ledger...as was the case with Takom's Panther G...yes indeed, they've really knocked it out of the park with their rendering of zimmerit, which includes realistic damage to the coating. I wonder if the actual locations & nature of the damage matches what was seen in photos of Carius' Tiger...🤔
    I hope all is well with you & your family. I guess it has been an especially busy time of the year for you..hopefully it has been less about 'horrorculture' and more about a productive & rewarding season! 😀

    I'm finishing up that kit, and I had two frustrating problems. I replace the track with an after market set as the ones in the box, and their separate track horns are always a pain to work with. No matter the process or the glue used, they always break off when I try to mount them on the road wheels. And in this kit, unlike other manufacturers, for some reason I had trouble getting the road wheels mounted and aligned. There seemed to be too much space between the paired wheels. I had to make major adjustments to get them to fit properly. Perhaps I misunderstood the instructions, or they weren't clear enough. This wasn't my first Tiger...

    I got the box of three and they are very nice Tiger kits. Loads of details without being too fiddly. Two things that are awkward, the hull doesn't fit because the radiators are too tall and the tracks are awful. Just could not get the tracks to go together - would rather do Fruilmodel tracks than use the kit ones. The guide horns were easier to add once the tracks were on but an absolute pain.

      No, you're wrong. There are two photos of "217" when it was painted white: there are not "plenty".
      In both of them, it's driving across a muddy field, from our left to our right.
      The tracks are the "late" type, that much is very clear in the second photo.
      Otto Carius had this tank in the summer of 1944 when it was no longer white. We have several photos and a film clip from one of those days. The tracks in that period are "early".
      In conclusion: Takom don't provide enough parts for all of the decal options in this kit.
