Great video and too the point, I just added the 10" to my sailboat caught 2 of the biggest Coho Salmon (wild so couldn't keep them) looking to target Kings I am sure it will be a little more adjustment on the fishfinder.
Can you search points of interest on land such as store or residential addresses in the GPS section of the new Garmins? I can only seem to find POI,s such as marinas.
Great how too. i tried to wipe down my screen while running messed up my sonar adjustments. how do i set it back to default settings. seems locked on the past view and cant get it back. thanks in advance. im not hearing fishfinder and dont see any fish. just blobs weird and cant get back
Howdy, terrific video, most helpful. Was wondering if you have any experience with dealing with the downrigger canon ball returns while using traditional sonar. Ours sometime will read that line as the bottom. any suggestions on this? thanks much
Great tutorial, thanks! Is it possible to find see what kind of bottom it is, like sand, pebbles or rocks? Would be when on anchorage. Would be great with an answer 🙌🏻😊
Great video! Can you explain more about finding fish and what to look for on my Garmin 7 Striker vivid SV screen. Could you do a live video out on the water explaining what you’re seeing under your boat and that would sure bring a lot more understanding for the first timers like me, that know nothing. Thanks so much for the advice!❤
is this a "bottom machine" or a sonar...because all I see this machine doing is reading the bottom......I have always thought that sonar had the ability to look / see sideways and forward......am I wrong???...because I want the capability to look forward and sideways...so I don't hit a rock or an incline of sand or coral......help please. thanks
Brian, the best way to do this is by using the split screen function. When looking at your depth range you just need to zoom to zero and this should allow you to focus in on the bottom. Let us know if this works.
Hi there, thanks for the great video. I have a Garmin 74SV. How do I reset the Garman without eliminating the engine data? I’m not really seeing fish on the screen but would like to reset it without having to re-calibrate the Nema set up for twins
CJ, we do not have a lot of experience with this unit as we do not use it in our production. However, one way you could try to solve this issue is to check your transducer selection in your sonar menu and make sure that it matches the transducer you have installed. Resetting your Garmin unit will not solve the issue so you don't need to worry about that.
I'm still confused about how "scroll speed" works, if I always use ultraspeed when the ship is going slow and fast is it better to know real time in under water. why are there so many categories like slow, medium, fast etc. if ultraspeed is better at reading quickly real time fish in the water.. thank
Dude... I love your videos and I'm a GIANT Sportsman fan. Looking at a 302 Open next year (I hope!) but I fricken can't stand it when people point to a sonar image and start talking about shit like I know what it is. Seriously. Couple of questions, because I don't understand the sonar thing. (Not much of a fisherman, but I'd like to get more into it when I get a bigger boat) 1) What is the perspective of what I'm looking at? Is this under the boat? Is it in front of the boat? Is it a side view? Am I looking down on it? 2) Please stop pointing at random dots, calling them "live structure" and moving on. Why is it live structure? How can you tell? Why do you guys always say "I'm gonna say" like you just decided it's live structure. 3) What in blue **** is a "live structure"? Is it a fish? Is it a coral? Is it a rock with a personality? Please and thank you
way to fast and all i want to know is if my transducer is on the back of the boat where are the fish in relation to me in the bow of the boat when they show up on the screen?
To our understanding this is not a feature that's available on the Garmin units. You'd be best to contact your local Garmin Dealer for more in-depth information. Thank you!
Why are you speaking so fast? The people watching this video are watching it because they want to learn not to hear how impressive you are. Obviously you have never taught in front of students!!
You lost me when you went to settings because you never explained what or how to adjust the settings. If you can’t use a computer will I be able to figure this out? I am extremely digitally challenged. I have never owned or used a computer. Just a cell phone.
Computer knowledge is not a requirement, but patience and willingness to learn definitely is. Youll have to dive into settings all the time. Looking in 20’ of water won’t use the same settings looking as 200’. Trolling vs drifting, ducer placement. It’s not “plug n play” Frequency, contrast, sensitivity, scroll speed etc. they all have an effect on your image and there’s no recipe. You just gotta keep messing with it.
@@louism9790 thanks for the words of encouragement but some things in life are just above one’s skill sets. This is one for me. I can’t even figure out how to stream a show on my TV. At 66 it’s too hard to teach an old dog. I will always need to hire someone to fish with me that knows how to operate the fish finder. I guess things could be worse.
Thanks! The more info on adjusting sonar you can offer, the better!
Thanks Chris we would love to provide more information. If you have any specific questions feel free to let us know.
Thanks for the info bud. Going on 2nd season with this unit I definitely need to make these adjustments

Best tutorial yet. Thanks for explaining thoroughly.
Does it records depth and coordinates?. If does, can be exported?
I fish Lake Erie and run 20 mph or more, so what are the best settings at higher speeds and what do the marks look like?
Can you search points of interest on land such as store or residential addresses in the GPS section of the new Garmins? I can only seem to find POI,s such as marinas.
To our knowledge it's only capable of finding points of interest along waterways such as marinas.
How would you set it up to mark shrimp on the bottom while deep hole shrimping? Usually looking in water 25-50ft
Is there a way to turn on an audible alert when marking fish while trolling?
Can you have your transducer on while in simulator mode

It's sonar, you'd need to get into some higher end equipment to have side scan capabilities.
Hi I m new sonar operator. So you can briefing me how can operate sonar device.
How do I adjust this unit when I am running about 40 my unit is flashing?

My sonar seems to be very cluttered picking up a lot of junk any ideas why or tips to clean it up? Adjusting gain doesnt seem to help

How can you tell you see fish or what is the symbol for fish
Look for arches, these are going to be large fish. Clusters of small artifacts subsurface or down in the water column is likely bait.
How can we realise the direction of fish shoul
It's harder to determine this on a 2D sounder, you'd be better off using a 3D sounder to determine this.
If I see it on the sonar I’ve already passed it right?
Correct. Best thing to do is backtrack your breadcrumbs to where you saw the mark.
Why doesn’t my screen ever look like yours?

Man that’s a really good video for a beginner like me. But, you need to slow down. You are talking and going so fast I can’t follow you.
Bro change the video speed

@@SportsmanBoatsOffical there is a fish alarm. Its under one of the settings in sonar. Not sure which one.
Too fast my friend. Both talking speed and showing what to do is too fast for any benefit or absorption, and too little detail or explanation.
