    It's a beautiful tone to play around in, when you first cleaned it up and found your sweet spot, I heard you from the other room, your excitement in the notes reminded me of a young doe leaping around trying to find it's feet on a sunlit mountain side. Good call man, inspiring.

    Thanks very much for this Mike..that’s exactly how I’m running my fuzz now and it sounds great :) I wanted a pedal that just added a bit of dirt but never really found an OD I like, the fuzz sounds a bit different and adds a bite to the clean tone.

    I love my fuzz face for this reason. When playing live just roll the volume off a touch for the rhythmy bluesy sound. Then when it comes to the solo you just bump the volume to 10 and BOOM you cut through the mix and have soaring leads that melt the audiences ears.

    Germaniums give you the early Hendrix sound. If you really want that early stuff you hear, go germanium. It's sludgy, awesome, but its very inconsistent. It is very sensitive to temperature, humidity, so it will sound different in different places (or times of day). Silicon transistors Hendrix used later, you can hear it on Band of Gypsies I believe. These are the "blue" Fuzz Faces normally. I don't think I will ever be much of a fuzz/Hendrix player but I went with silicon (AnalogMan), because this was Gilmour's choice by Meddle (abandoning the germanium) until he found the Big Muff by the time of the Animals album/tour (the Time solo is a great example of super loud amp and a silicon Fuzz Face). It is less sensitive, brighter and sharper, and seems a bit less sensitive to guitar volume, although it still very much is.
    Just for shits and giggles I'm going to get a germanium, may end up preferring it, but the whole "better" thing comes from people having a preference for their favorite guitarists tone in a certain period of time. Just my two cents for people wondering about his Fuzz Face comments.

    Is that an '80s Strat Plus? What an underrated guitar. I have a "mystery guitar" that I'm 90% sure is a Strat Plus, with the same Lace pickups, except that the body is weird natural/clear finish on a really unappealing dark wood, and somebody before me seems to have glued the tremolo down, as it's not blocked but still doesn't move.
    obviously it's not the ideal guitar for that Hendrix sound with a frozen hard bridge, but it's incredibly, incredibly close to the specs on the very first generation of Clapton signature Strats at a fraction of the price. Notwithstanding a very very tiny difference in the neck profile, it's virtually identical. Definitely one of my favourite axes, especially given the price.

    The amp is under driven so the sweetness of saturation and bite isn't going to happen making a clean and more "solid state" transparency to what is happening here.
    Jimi also had an EQ built into a knob with a "Q" on another knob to give a a permanent wah position setting that he crept in to taste. He also used specially the 1966 JTM 45/100 head and bled in a little bit of Fender Showmans. 010, .013, .015, .026, .032 and .038 string gauges. The reverse head on the guitar also changed the sonic quality of the strings due to the lengths being reversed.

    Hi, is it correct that it seems here at 9:55 that there is a highly noticeable difference in levels when u adjust the volume knob? Meaning at low volume knob numbers, the sound will be lower? Which does make sense?
    I was expecting that at different volume knob numbers, only the texture will differ.

    If you want that early '66-'67 Hendrix tone you HAVE to pick up an MJM London Fuzz Pedal. It uses a germanium transitor just like Jimi's original fuzz pedal which was made by his guitar tech Roger Mayer. Check out proguitarshop's demo of it, NAILS the tone to a T, better than a fuzz face (unless you have the bread to buy an original). They also make a version with a silicon transistor which Jimi switched to from '68-'70, which has a sharper sound.

    • @MikeBradleyofficial

      +diba8 The fuzz I'm using does have the germanium chip in.

    • @TheDudeOnBass79
      @TheDudeOnBass79 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say yes, but I think it doesn't really matter, I play an old mxr fuzz unit, I don't think they have a germanium transistor, but still I manage to get a great 66 67 hendrix tone through my bassman, It will help, but the way you play the guitar counts more and how to set up your amp , and to detune the guitar to E flat or even D ( often in D for live versions) . But of course it will help if you have germanium chip, but really you can do without!

    Nice playing man ! Most of the Fuzz Faces used by Jimi would have had Silicone transistors . But I like my Williams MkI which is built using NOS components inc. Germanium transistors and that cleans up brilliantly too . At Monterey I don't think he had any pedals , just straight into the amps. If you haven't already buy the Fender Hendrix Strat - You won't be dissapointed: You can sound like Dick Dale on it too :-)

    Three Questions: I see you have a Fender Super Sonic 22w amp. I think it is the best amp for clean tones with a lot of head room. But, I have seen some negative reviews for a loud popping sound when switching channels, and a loud tube hissing when not being played. (1) What do you think of this amp? (2) What speaker upgrade changes would you recommend. Some people think the Cannabis rex speakers would be great. (3) What do you think a perfect speaker would be for this amp?

      I've had mine since December 2013 have done probably over 100 gigs with and used it many times in the studio and its great, the only problem I have with it now is that the reverb has gone in it.
