Since everyone is sharing their experience, imma share mine.
I'm a writer/artist by night and work as a digital marketing associate by day. I use Notion mostly for my personal practice and life. I've been using Notion for roughly a year and I really love it.
I love being able to have pages and sub pages because it suits my personal style (I'm the type of person who has organised their data with folders within folders within folders). I also love the Google Drive embed feature because this way I can update my personal Google sheets for stuff like budgets from Notion without having to completely migrate. It's also my default writing app because I love the complete dark mode view and can export to Word for final submission, depending on the situation.
Notion is a great app, and I understand that the immense freedom can make it hard to figure out how you wanna use it (took me a couple of months to reach a point where I was satisfied with my set up) but it's definitely worth a shot.

I started using Notion after Matthew mentioned in one of his videos about productivity. As a freelance graphic designer it was a huge change. I had my info in multiple platforms and, as much as I loved being so organized, going from app to app to get what I needed. Now I have my own setup on Notion, and it's easily customizable according to whatever I need.
Plus, it has a beautiful dark mode.
PS: I even made my boyfriend who's a Civil Engineer to switch from Trello and Asana. He now thanks me.

COming back to say that, after watching this video I have experienced a quantum leap in how Notion is keeping my life and work organized. I am loving how it has the flexibility of designing a page section with different blocks, and having the power of a database under the hood. I patterned a project page setup similar to how you did it @benburns, and then tweaked a bit. THEN duplicated that template and dropping everything I am doing into those pages has been a snap. So grateful !

Very nice and to the point. I've been meaning to get into notion for a couple of years now, but keep feeling overwhelmed, or not finding the time to really dive into it in between projects. Of course, I am speaking from a personal freelance standpoint instead of a team. I tried using notion trust me, multiple times I really wanted to integrate it into my life. But it's too slow for me and I spent more time customising my template to suit my exact needs than actually using it. No hate to Notion, I think the app is amazing. However, as much as there's so much freedom to do what you like, I need some kind of boundary for me to work in, a dedicated app specific to one function. Which is why I use Trello and Bear.

    • @VickAntony
      @VickAntony 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I definitely agree with you! 200% I think it’s An amazing tool! But just a bit too slow for me. The quickest app on any Apple device are the native notes and calendar. I doubled down on them. There are more features than you think lol things like I can drag a note straight to calendar and create an event. I have tried bear too and a big fan of trello for Kanban

Loved the Romanian toss. You guys! Incredibly attractive.
And his tech set up over there, reminds me of my sister (insider). You just HAVE to love @thefutur . Like, do you know what is attractive to me, and maybe to many people? Authenticity with a dash of ingenuity based on a progressive journey of more and more competency and freedom to do great work.
Here's the thing: I am influenced by their long game, period. Sometimes it does take a few (days, weeks, months) to convert and actually buy what The Futur has to sell. I also believe that selling competency for the sheer act of doing for others expecting nothing in return is key in ensuring you do what you actually are in love with doing (well a profit to ensure sustainability OF that very mission is the golden exception). OK. that might of come out in a low res kind of way, let me explain: sometimes we do have to sell our "gifts" in order to ensure that actual "gifts" keep being made.
In this case selling education at a VERY positive return for students is incomparable and to me seems like an honorable mission.
I just can't wait to see The Futur integrating more with trending technology to stay relevant in the way they integrated digital marketing in leaps (as in when Chris & team took on TH-cam et al). Wow. I'm just in awe. Saw notion and thought, nice. Loved this AND there's SO many intersecting points of utility for this app. I guess I owe you guys a THANK YOU to everyone involved in this app & thank you at The Futur for introducing great products.
Let's go: a billion students! I believe and I hold out hope that you ALL, everyone, believes as well! Share, share, share, share!
    Have a beautiful day people!

Thank you very much. This was the key decider for me to try Notion (used your link). I figure if it's good enough for Blind, it's good enough for me. And damn, am absolutly LOVING Notion now!

Like everyone else, I already loved notion.
Ben, you're killing me. Url branders? You mean UTM tracking tags? Let's not confuse the children.

Ahhh I said URL parameters. The beard must have muffled a few syllables. UTM Tracking tags are one kind of parameter, right?

Love you guys, can you share your template? I know you are selling "a" version of it and that's awesome, but I can't see any reviews or evidence of it being updated (and notion has changed a lot in that time). Give me an excuse to give you money!

    Fantastic video overview!
I'm a freelance designer and have known about Notion for a while now but use Milanote for my projects and ideation. The main thing I like about Milanote is the canvas-based layout approach (as I'm an old school designer, anything that replicates an A3 layout pad style was a lifesaver!).
But as time went on I noticed that there are a few things that were not so great with Milanote due to this nonlinear methodology, which was task/todo workflow and scheduling. Everything is just and a bit laborious to set up, manage and keep track of getting things done. I've tried a lot of todo apps and settled on MeisterTask which is fantastic at what it does, but really hate spreading my time over multiple apps.
This video has really convinced me to give Notion a try but wanted to know how other freelancers find it? Or if anyone can compare their pros and cons between Notion and Milanote?

@@MatthewEncina Thanks for the feedback. Couldn't agree more... my process works for me and my clients (but always keen to learn about other ways something could be done more efficiently if possible).

Yes I will take the prelaunch template 👩🏻‍💻
Also surprised Matthew wasn't in this because I discovered Notion through him so thought maybe he put y'all on it 🙈🙈

Matthew is a power user for sure. But we were actually put on to Notion by one of our UX interns, Leo. He shared a document with Matthew and I that blew us away. The rest is history.

BTW, do you employ anyone over 30 at Futur? Everyone in that Zoom call looked about the same age...
