    This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Audi Q3 and Mercedes'Benz GLA. Both of these new SUVs are the latest entries in the small luxury utility space. Both the Audi Q3 small crossover and Mercedes GLA SUV have 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. They both produce 258lb.-ft. of torque but the Q3 has 228hp and the GLA 221hp. A big difference between these two small luxury SUVs is the Mercedes-Benz requires premium gasoline and the Q3 runs on regular. Both the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA come with an 8-speed automatic and standard AWD. The Q3 comes standard with an 8.8” touchscreen and a 10.25-inch driver display, the GLA has a 7-inch touchscreen and driver display. A 10.1-inch touchscreen along with a 12.3-inch driver display is available on the Q3 Technik trim and a 10.25-inch touchscreen and driver display on the GLA with the premium package for $3,600. Both have user-friendly infotainment tech and have a good balance of comfort and agility, as well as, an excellent turning radius. The interior on the GLA is stylish and sophisticated, the Audi, clean, simple and modern, they are both very different, but well done. The GLA wins on fuel economy getting 9.8L/100km in the city & 7.1L on the highway. The Q3 gets 12.3L/100km in the city, 8.6L on the highway. Keep in mind, the Q3 runs on cheaper regular fuel. Both of these new small luxury utilities are fantastic and deliver a great ride, fun handling and upscale interior.

    Test drove both, ended up with the Audi, much more value for the money, the price on the Mercedes shoots up really fast once you start adding options that you would want in that type of car, and in my opinion the Audi looks better on the outside, handles great in dynamic mode, but I have to say that the GLA’s interior is second to none.

    It's the GLA for me; better looking inside and out and the premium gas requirement is largely offset by the markedly better fuel economy compared to the Q3, so it's not a big issue for me. Great review as always guys, keep it up!

    The GLA runs on premium gas but gets better mileage. AAA says premium gas costs about $3.10 while regular costs about $2.50 in the US right now. Based on the city mileage you indicated, it would cost about $39.27 to drive the Audi Q3 300 miles while the Mercedes GLA would cost about $38.75. Based on the highway mileage, the Audi Q3 would cost about $27.37 to drive 300 miles while the Mercedes GLA would cost about $28.18. I don't think you should be emphasizing how much you like buying regular gas when the actual fuel costs are very similar. I think anyone that buys these vehicles will be very happy with their purchases!

      @@ericwalkr910 The difference in price is the same here in the US as it was 8 months ago when I made this comment. It still isn't enough to pick one over the other. If it is, go with the Prius instead.

      Was comparing between the two and had the se feeling. Q3 just gives you a cheap plastic feeling even if you got all the options checked.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidl0820 Benz gives you the look of more premium but a lot of it is still plastic like the Lexus UX. Look closely in the video lol. A lot of the trims on the door lower console is all plastic they just tried to hide it by having fake carbon fibre pieces and darker plastic. While Audi doesn't try to hide it that obviously with a lighter plastic color lol. But then again GLA is more expensive than the Audi even on a top trim comparison. The highest value trim on the Benz is 56K without taxes. Audi you can be had at 48K now as the prices all gone up. So take your pick, more or less expensive.

    Thanks for nicely put together video, the best I have come across online... Appreciate it is not to list down every difference, but a key features in the Q3 is that the Driver assistance (parking, lane assist, blindspot) package in the basic model are much better compared to its Mercedes GLA. That is a huge factor especially when you are doing long drives.

    We drove both and it was a tough choice. Regular gas appealed but with our two-driver family, absence of (and no option at any price) memory seats & mirrors was a big negative. Our second drive was the GLA and the difference was immediately obvious. The Audi felt like an upgraded VW. The MB was a true luxury vehicle experience - ride, handling, interior comfort and finish, MBUx - and worth the extra cost. Our GLA is on order for delivery next month so it won’t be long before I know if there are any disappointments or if I miss the console shifter beyond the first couple of days.

      I agree. I was upgrading from a 2015 Jetta and test drove the Q3 first. I was sad driving home from the test drive as I was bummed by how underwhelming it was. My Jetta engine had so much more power than the Q3. Also the interior of the Q3 felt all like cheap plastic (even the Audi emblem was plastic...).
      I ended up with a GLA 250. The difference in the engine is striking. You are absolutely right, the MB is a true luxury vehicle. I wish the Audi Q3 as I really wanted that one....
      Overall I would say the GLA is more elegant and refined but just my two cents.

    I'm one of those people who was super accustomed to the console shifter--of course, I learned how to drive with one! Naturally, it was a tough adjustment getting my head around the shifter (driving when you wanna reverse, reversing when you wanna drive). Fortunately, it was a fairly quick adjustment. Now I love all the space in the GLA to lean or relax or place items on the center console, haha.

    This is a tough one. We currently own a Audi S3, which I love, but the GLA interior and exterior styling is speaking to me more here. I like the fact that the Q3 only needs regular grade fuel, but that’s not a deal breaker as we don’t drive much (retired). This Vs reviews are so helpful. And I think I'm narrowing down to exactly these 2 to decide. My only cons with Q3 are the remote start (heard Audi doesn't have it and I need aftermarket mod) and the control panel (volume button is so randomly placed).
    But the GLA 250 can become expensive with the standard features that Q3 have already.

      Audi Q3 does have remote start, just not sure which packages include it. Went to the dealership today and a 2021 Q3 Technik fully loaded, advanced driver assistance, black optics package, and I believe premium plus.

    Zac...It doesn't take years to save money with the regular gas. You save from the first time you fill up. I think there should be "real" mpg figures based on whether a car requires premium or regular gas. After all, premium is 20-30 percent more expensive and therefore you can drive further per dollar with a car that doesn't require premium.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf ปีที่แล้ว

      Daily Motors did a test with the 2022 Q3 real world MPG on highway at least is 34 MPG, which is efficient. Besides EPA and L/KM don't mean jack on in a lot of the govt test. Real world often different depending on how you drive.

    It was a tough choice and I was really close to buy Q3 due to its nicer style until I found a big difference in engine. They both use 2.0 turbocharged, and Q3 has a significant boosting delay which is really annoying when you want to accelerate. On the other hands, GLA has almost no delay and ride quality is much better. I've tested with 'sports mode' and 'normal mode' for both car but results were the same. If you are considering one of these two, please have a test drive for each and feel the difference when you press the pedal.

    I have a question. I’m looking at both of these vehicles to buy this spring and the regular gas use is the q3 seemed important. I did the math for gas prices in Ontario and with the extra fuel efficiency of the Mercedes both cost exactly $10.70 to run 100 km. Am I correct that the extra fuel efficiency negate the extra cost of premium?

    The pricing on these cars is rediculous. By the time you add some required options. With $6000. down my monthly lease quote was $484./month. I got a Lexus NX300 with more features and a lager car for more than $100./month less.

    Hello Zack this is a great video. My question is Does the Mazda CX-5 Signature compite with this based cars vehicles ? I wish this brands sells raised station wagon like the SUBARU OUTBACK. I always agree any SUV should be bought in diesel. If the customer is looking for space nothing is better than station wagon plus since it rides closed to the road is more efficient and less polluted than a raised vehicle . Thanks Dear Zack greetings from Lima - Perú. If i have to choose between both niether of these, because I'd rather buy a VW PASSAT STATION WAGON fully loaded for this price unfortunately for north americans people is not sold

    Isn't regular gas "dirtier" than premium? How would the Q3 perform on 91 octane? Would it get better gas mileage?

    • @nickolastiguan
      @nickolastiguan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      “Regular” gasoline is not dirtier (different grades of gasoline are 87, 89, 91 and 93 octane. It has nothing to do with it being “regular, medium and premium”)... it just has less octane and cleaning agents. All gasoline sold in Canada and the US has to have certain amount of cleaning agents, but Top Tier brands have more of these cleaning agents in their gasoline. Big brands also add more cleaning agents to their 91 octane, compared to 87 and 89 octane.

      Depends, but premium gas these days are expensive. I drive a WRX and i pay $2-$2.50 a litre on 91 on its worse day of gas prices vs $1.50 on regular to $2.04 when it was the most expensive.

    So, Q3 can run on a regular gas, which is around 20% cheaper, but the consumption is around 20% higher. Where is the benefit ? Plus, if you want to be credible, please, compare apples to apples. Simply saying that this or that trim starts from $39K doesn't realy tell much. If you professionally review/compare cars, you have to do your home work, at least on paper. Compare the same specs and let us know. Finally, nobody really buys premium brands with base trims. I don't think Andrea would fancy that... P.S. entry level Q3 costs nearly as much as fully loaded RAV 4 hybrid, with AWD and 6L/100km.Not mentioning reliability...

      German here. I don't understand your trust issue. I've mangled German cars in our Autobahn and never had any issues. Mercedes engine, for instance, are known to last (when taken care of well) up to 500k kilometers and more. I've never heard of a Japanese car that lasted that long. The engines are reliable for sure (especially Honda) but the rest isn't as reliable. My wife's Mazda just broke down (seized engine). That never happens to any of the German cars my dad and I owned. It all depends on what you want. If you have a lead foot and travel a lot and want high mileage I'd refrain from buying a Japanese car unless it's something like a supra or anything other sporty. If it's just city driving get a Prius haha.
