Coming from an X3, I shopped both BMW and Audi and purchased a 2022 Q5 Premium package. The Q5 just felt a lot more solid, quier and luxurious than the Q3 and ride quality was much better than the X1 and X3. As you say it's an amazing all-rounder that simply does everything well. I would have loved to have saved the $$$ on the Q3, but after a back to back test drive the Q5 was the car for me. That's not to say that the Q3 isn't a great car in it's own right, but they're just in different classes.
I've owned a Q5 since December and nothing but praise for this vehicle. Owned an A4 sports package before, but as I get older and also needed a new "family" vehicle it was nice to stay in the Audi family. Been a VW/Audi guy since the early 80's.
I test drove some Q3s and also thought they were not as solid and noisier than the Q5, by a lot, just cheaper feeling. The X1 I had, was better than the Q3. The Q5 is an excellent SUV
I have just taken delivery of a 2022 Q3 sline black edition in Navarra blue with the sound and comfort pack and it’s absolutely beautiful to look at and to drive
After checking out BMW X1, 2, 3 and Q5 - I decided to go with the 2022 Q3 Progressiv - best decision ever. Great looking car, saved on gas, good power ..etc Love the integrated touch screen over the tablet style on Q5. Tablet is outdated design and you might as well get Toyota.
I drove the Q5 as a loaner and I loved it although as a daily driver I’d go for the A4 allroad because I like the drive of a car over the higher ride of an SUV. I don’t mind a tablet style MMI - sitting higher makes it so you don’t take your eyes off the road completely. You can still see the road w your peripheral vision
I have no hesitation saying that it was Motormouth that convinced us to buy the Q3. Simply fabulous and more importantly absolute great value car. Bought 2022 in white.
We have a 2018 Q5 we purchased used. It is a terrific car both in town and on long trips for the two of us 71 year old California grandparents. However, with the grandkids growing we actually find the back seat too small to fit the grandsons' long legs. A big reason for subscribing to your channel is to help us locate our next ride. Keep up the great work.
Two empty nesters with a 35 lb dog here. We have a 2020 Q3 45. Is it quite as polished as the Q5? Nope, but we could not justify the extra money for such a small increase in cargo capacity (and consider most other elements pretty much equal). It is a great car for around town and the highway fuel economy is very good. The engine/transmission combo is not quite as smooth as our previous BMW X3, but that thing was in another class, for sure. The Q3 pretty fun to drive, but I did prefer my 2019 Civic hatch turbo, with its great power to weight ratio and low to the ground center of gravity. Seriously considering another Q3 when lease is up on the current one.
When we shopped for our first Audi in 2020, we first drove a Q5. Then we drove a Q3. As we pulled away in the Q3 we IMMEDIATELY turned to each other with that "no way" look. We found the Q3 to be course and unsophisticated compared to the Q5. It was noisy, and the ride was rough even on the comfort setting. To us the Audi cachet wouldn't be enough to lead us to a Q3. We ended up with a Q5, and I just traded in my 2019 VW Atlas for a Q5 plug-in hybrid. It is of course a lot less space than my Atlas, but as you've point out in other videos, a VW isn't an Audi, especially when comparing the MQB and MLB chassis. I decided to sacrifice the space for sophistication and the hybrid drivetrain. A bit off-topic, but it's a shame VW didn't hybridize the Atlas, because unlike most of the motor press, I loved my Atlas for it's size, it's quiet and comfortable ride, it's value (mine was fully loaded and still cheaper than a Q5 Premium Plus that had way less features) and it was completely trouble-free. I might have bought another one if they'd at least partially electrified it
Hey! I'm looking to buy whether the Audi Q5 or the atlas. Right now 1 kid looking to get one more kid. Thoughts?? How does VW ride quality compares to Audi? I love sport driving but not driving fast. I stay on the safe side speed wise. Just the quality of ride of German cars. I'm done with Asians. Too boring.
I’m a huge fan of Audi’s “boring” looks and agree 100% with the Korean vehicles being too unique. I find Kia and Hyundai products to look dated relatively quickly and it doesn’t help that they refresh their cars like every other year
A German vehicle will look classy forever imo, Asian vehicles are all over the place. Sometimes they look like they came out of an Anime cartoon. Love my Hondas though, but I am 90% an Audi guy.
This is the exact comparison i needed. Thank you! The Q3 is at the top of my list right now. I might wait a year or two to see if they’re planning hybrid versions of either of these.
Q3 all the way. Love the integrated touch screen. Hate the tablet style. Never understood why some manufacturers went the route, it's so weird looking, literally, it sticks out.
I kept going back and forth between the two but finally settled and ordered the 2023 Q3 fully loaded. I drove the Q3 and Q5 back to back and agree with everyone saying the ride quality on the Q5 is better as well as the MPG. But the Q3 taking regular gas and being AWD was hard to beat for me. The interior design is much more polished and classy looking over the Q5 in my opinion. At least for now. The money savings in the Q3 is awesome too but i’ll probably end up getting a Q5 eventually. For now the Q3 takes the cake but the Q5 is due for a refresh soon which is also coinciding with Audis electric plans starting in 2025.
Audi is moving all the even numbers (a4 6 q4 8) to electric and keeping the odds as ICE the 2025 q5 interior is radically different and looks very modern and sleek. Your q3 is FWD with haldex (it will engage the backs only when needed)
A wider track will always be more desirable. Whether it be a sports car, a luxury saloon or an S/CUV. They both look great and are priced perfectly (for a premium brand), but that little extra width just makes the Q5 look (and feel) a little more ‘specialer’. Despite the fact that, I believe, the Q3 will steal many of Q5’s sales figures. Great comparison. Thanks for the video.
For some reason when I’m servicing my 2019 Q5 and the dealership gives me a new Q3 interior seems larger and wider in the ergonomics. I just like Audi’s period.
I currently have a Q5 with over 100,000 miles. I am thinking of going with the Q3 this time even though I have loved my Q5 I can go smaller since no kids and I like that it’s regular gas.
if you havent already I would recommend getting a q3 45 premium plus with technology package and black optic - 2020-2021 CPO examples can be picked up for the mid 20's. I would avoid the 2022 model year as the supply shortage caught up with audi and they are missing features some even use an old school turn key to start them - Avoid the 40 model its far too underpowered (not that the 45 is any kind of power house)
Personally i prefer Q5 over Q3 any given day because the Q5 delivers the decent power and smoother ride. I found the Q3 is under power and hesitated at the start. I owned my Q5 for a few years and love it. No problem except it eats motor oil.
Your videos are WAY better than watching TV! We are shopping and retired, tossing up between the Audi A4 Allroad, Q5, Q3, Forester, Outback, Venza, RX350....LOL...that's our narrowed down list! :) One question if I may...you don't touch on Sound systems, like which you prefer sound wise. Even being older than dirt it is important for relaxing while we make our trips. Thanks for having the best videos on youtube.....we mean that!
Excellent comparo. Loved the video. I own a 2022 Q3 Tecknik with S-line package in Switzerland and so far it's been a good experience. I've been tempted to get a Q5 or X3 every now and then. But the compact dimensions of the Q3 make it more manageable in Europe with narrow roads and tight parking spots. Interestingly, i own the Sportback version in all black and i think it looks pretty cool. Sadly due to the prevailing semiconductor shortage, i missed out on a few extras like 360 camera and sunroof :(
Yes, I double that thought of size ....just got 2022 Q3 in UK & its fun compact size makes it ideal on tighter UK roads...& yes with the driver assist, sound & comfort & storage pack it all the more alluring ....
My wife drives the Q5, I am actually considering a Q3 - I drive a convertible, but want something a bit more practical that is still fun. We have always driven VW or Audi - they always look good without too much flash and make driving a bit more interesting!
When I shopped Audi in the spring almost all the Q5 and Q3 did not have blind spot alert, adaptive cruise, or navigation, and other “deleted” items due to the chip shortage.
We own a new Q3 and it’s a great vehicle. Has the power when you need it, super quiet, only wish it had driver memory seat. Like Andrea says, it’s a great value SUV with some a generous amount of Audi luxury sprinkled in.
My husband has a 2019 Q5 Progressiv. I’ve never seen him love a car like he loves that Audi. He prefers the track pad on his to the touch screen on the newer ones. I agree with Andrea on the handling being too light, but my daily driver is a GTI.
Currently in a mk7.5 GTI, and have been considering the SQ5 as my next move. Wasn't sure how much I'd appreciate the sportiness in such a larger size platform coming from the GTI though...
I bought the Q5, The Q3 has the cheap front heavy FWD MQB platform shared with the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Golf Mk8 The Q5 has the state of the art larger MLB platform, close to a 50/50 weight distribution that is shared with the more upscale Audi A4, Audi A5, Audi Q5, Audi A8, Audi A7, Audi A6, Porsche Macan and the second generation Audi Q7 Day and night difference in performance , ride ,comfort etc etc etc Q5 base price $48,400.00 Q3 base price $43,100.00 Tiguan base price $36,632.00 So, if you want to save money get the Tiguan as it is bigger, a stretched version of the the Q3 for $6,468.00 less than the Q3 If, you want luxury and performance and more room get the Q5 for $5,300.00 more than the Q3 Making the Q3 is redundant IMHO
I understand the comparison between Tiguan & Q3 however, one thing that's a HUGE weighted factor to me is the dealer customer experience difference between 'ordinary' car dealerships (Chevy, Ford, VW, etc) & lux car dealerships. Where I live the ordinary dealerships give a combination of Grand-Central-Station / Cattle pen / 3rd-World Train Station customer experience. Conversely, most of the lux car dealerships have nice buildings/customer areas, often provide you with a loaner when you need service for your car, etc. $6k is a big split, but things are so jacked up in the big metro area I live in I will pay the up-charge to be treated more like a valued customer vs a piece of cattle.
@@loseerich493 If you got money to burn to spend $6,000.00 for customer service for the time it takes to buy a new car, spend a extra $5,300.00 to avoid buyers remorse and get the Q5, if you drive the Q5 next to a Q3, you will justify the price, believe me
Tbh Andrea is my click bait on the outfit she wears. 😅 Thanks for the comparison. Always wanted to know the difference between the two Q models. Great job as always you two!
I'm with Andrea on the tablet design. Used to have a 13 Tiguan with the integrated touchscreen vs my current 17 A4 with the same tablet design as the Q5, although it's not touchscreen. I like that mine is not a touchscreen as it doesn't attract fingerprints. I would go crazy if I saw fingerprints in my vision every moment I was driving. When I'm driving, I like to focus on driving and could care less about what the infotainment is trying to tell me. I'm with Zack on the decision between the Q3 vs Q5. I was torn between a previous gen S3 vs current gen A4. The S3 would be all I need now, but the A4 is all I'll ever need now and later. Plus with Audi sedans, at least with the previous gen, the A3 was really just a rebadged GTI/Golf R depending on the trim while the A4 really felt like an Audi. The new A3 has something to say about that though. Cars are getting so big nowadays. Great review!
Both are great cars. Despite of many naysayers of Made-in-Mexico build quality (mostly thanks to VW's notorious reliability in their Jetta), I still would choose a Q5 over equivalent Q3 mainly because of its Torsen Quattro rather than Haldex Quattro. The Ultra version of the Torsen Quattro has actually improved its efficiency without losing its performance abilities.
Hi Z & A, love your reviews, love my 2015 Q5 3L TSFI Progresiv w 62K kms. Never an issue, runs flawlessly and accelerates like a scared cat. Fun to drive. Carries a lot gear. Comes w sturdy cross rails for the top, a cargo net and dog partition. How good is that! 277 hp of supercharged fun and 9L per 100km in the city. Perfect.
Current cars are a 2020 A4 Progressiv and 2021 GTI Autobahn, we have neighbours with SQ5s and Q3s. With the price of fuel and many years of small sporting cars we have decided on a 2024 Q3 Progressiv for our next vehicle. Running on regular and the size for parking in our garage dictate the Q3. Like them all but after the current ones the Q5 seems big. I do find the GTI's steering to be much more direct than the A4 which is really noticeable on the highway but many complain that the new BMWs are vague as well so would live with it.
Great comparison/contribution, you two. Personally if I was shopping for a new Audi "Q" My money would be on the Q5, just on looks alone. I also like that the Q5 comes with a Dual Clutch 7 speed transmission, while the Q3 is a Torque Converter 8 speed(At least from what you mentioned).
@@andreaspencer9813 Correct. My current Audi also has a ZF 8 Speed auto. But moving forward, the Dual Clutch is sportier. Although, it cannot hold as much torque as the ZF. But like anything in life, there's tradeoffs.
Like the Q5 but I found everything I was looking for in the Genesis GV70 2.5T Prestige. I just think it's a better SUV...more power, more technology...closer to an SQ5 at a Q5 price.
You should also mention that the Q3 removes the heated steering wheel if you add the top driver assistance package. Which makes it a deal breaker in Canada.
I actually like the q3 better. But the q5 can easily become better if they copy the q7 screen. Heated and cooled cup holders. Massage seats . And hopefully I get that sportback style
I would chose neither and I will take my 2022 CX-5 Signature Turbo all day everyday over the Q3 since it has more features like heads up display,- bigger infotainment screen and much lower cost of ownership over the long haul.
Its funny how car companies are different in each country. In Australia we cant get the Q3 45, they say it is because it would affect sales of the RSQ3 so all we get is the 35 and 40. The 35 being front wheel drive only and just 110kw and 250nm
@@andreaspencer9813 Well deserved - I also very much enjoyed all your earlier videos on the Audi Q3 !!! Full disclosure: we just ordered one last week from Audi Niagara - and watching your well done videos makes me look forward to it getting delivered even more...
@@andreaspencer9813 I am absolutely convinced of that - I drive an Audi A6 Avant (C8) over in Europe and am excited that you can get all the same drive assist features, functionality and the user interface in the Q3 as well which I would not want to miss again - so this is why I did not consider anything but an Audi. Just wished they had the very sexy Audi Q3 Sportback available here in Canada that you can buy in Europe ….
Great review! We own a new Q3 and love it. The sliding rear seat to expand trunk space is just great. Only gripe we have is the Audi Connect. Still cannot login with our ID and password after 6 months of owning the car. Anyone knows if this has been fixed?
Suffice to say, the AUDI Q3 - 40 TFSI has a decent size and an appealing, easy to use display. However, the drive lacks the typical Audi quality, and demonstrates a horrendous NVH factor ( noise vibration harshness ) as well as a substantially low fuel consumption). This is my 4th AUDI ( but the first SUV/CUV). My Q3 barely gives 12-15 mpg in the city. Last but not least, unexpectedly the customer service provided by the Audi Sales dept. & the General Manager (Audi Wynnewood-Philadelphia) was below average, at best.
Had a Q3 as a loaner and thought it was great…until we loaded the cargo area with our daughters dance costumes, shoes, makeup kits… there was a lot of stuff. A Q5 ‘may’ have been better, but probably not much if it’s only slightly bigger. I did enjoy my time driving the Q3. Just wished it had a manual transmission.
I’ve been test driving across the board. Q3/X1-X3/GLA-GLC and I keep going back to the Q3 for the regular fuel, non run flat tires and price. I’ll be chatting with them this week! I did love the drive of the X3 though. I was a bit disappointed in the ride of the Benz…was expecting a true comfort ride and didn’t get it.
Often the run-flat tires on new higher dollar new cars aren't as comfortable of a ride as some regular good tires. I wore my run-flats out, but would never choose to buy them.
i prefer the q3 size but the lack of performance has kept me from purchasing. it is hard to give up my porsche macan but if they ever decide to go with a sq3, well that might make me jump
I drive a 2018 Q3. when i was shopping for it, I also tested BMX X1 and X2. I found the bimmers too hard for NYC roads (and a lot pricier for spec-to-spec cars). I also felt like the X1 dashboard was from the 20th century - I literally wanted to cry when I looked at it. I said to myself, there is no way I spend any extended period of time staring into that thing even if their drive is better than what Audi offered at the time. Now this current Gen Q3 I simply hate the looks. I hate the front passionately... OK the back view is not so bad. The interior is sooo boring and cheap looking compared to even Mazdas... In all honesty, I do prefer the Q5 interior even though it is outdated in the eyes of many. having said all of that, the regular gas will probably be one of the decisive points for me if I were buying this, I also toyed with the idea of upgrading to Q5 about a year into the ownership but my dealer talked me out of it. For the next vehicle, I want to go to another German brand but with such value propositions, I am afraid I may be stuck with audis for a while. And I really hope they abandon this techno design in favor of something more elegant.
The Q5 is 4,682 mm L x 1,893 mm W x 1,662 mm H, weighs 1,935 kilograms (4,685 lbs). And still in North-America the industry has chosen to classify it as a “Compact” SUV. 😂 Nuts
Another parent bought a Q3 S line with those 20" wheels and that bright turbo blue colour. It's really sharp. I think I'd go with the Q3. A shame they don't make a SQ3
Audi has very poor customer service. I own a Q5 and the rear axel was delivered “ out of alignment”. There was a recall, only after I had to purchase expensive new tires and axel alignment. Did Audi reimburse. Nope. Six months and crickets. I will never buy another Audi.
Coming from an X3, I shopped both BMW and Audi and purchased a 2022 Q5 Premium package. So, if you want to save money get the Tiguan as it is bigger, a stretched version of the the Q3 for $6,468.00 less than the Q3
If, you want luxury and performance and more room get the Q5 for $5,300.00 more than the Q3
Making the Q3 is redundant IMHO
@@loseerich493 If you got money to burn to spend $6,000.00 for customer service for the time it takes to buy a new car, spend a extra $5,300.00 to avoid buyers remorse and get the Q5, if you drive the Q5 next to a Q3, you will justify the price, believe me
You are totally right👍
Tbh Andrea is my click bait on the outfit she wears. 😅
Thanks for the comparison.
I like that the screen is integrated into the dash on the Q3. Although that probably limits the size availability.
Do you happen to know Which version quattro does q8 have?
@@JohnSmith-me2wg Q8 is full Torsen Quattro
Hi Z & A, love your reviews, love my 2015 Q5 3L TSFI Progresiv w 62K kms. Never an issue, runs flawlessly and accelerates like a scared cat. Fun to drive. Carries a lot gear. Comes w sturdy cross rails for the top, a cargo net and dog partition. How good is that! 277 hp of supercharged fun and 9L per 100km in the city. Perfect.
I’d plump for the Q5 myself.. tbf I’d actually plump for a SQ5 😁
Looked at both today and not sure what to do thanks. I also look at vw Tiguan and that seemed much worse.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Both are actually good transmissions, Audi makes some good ones, very smooth.
@@andreaspencer9813 Correct. My current Audi also has a ZF 8 Speed auto. But moving forward, the Dual Clutch is sportier. Although, it cannot hold as much torque as the ZF. But like anything in life, there's tradeoffs.
What's your opinion of the B & O sound system only available on the Q5? Always enjoy the reviews, thanks!
Like the Q5 but I found everything I was looking for in the Genesis GV70 2.5T Prestige. I just think it's a better SUV...more power, more technology...closer to an SQ5 at a Q5 price.
I had an Audi A3 and currently own a Q5. The steering is best in auto mode.
Hello to you both,
Thank you for the great review.
Great video Andrea! I like Q3 better because of style and better gas mileage. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much! The Q3 is a great choice, how about it in blue. 👏👌
@@andreaspencer9813 love the blue! 👍🏻👍🏻 You are an very welcome Andrea!
I would chose neither and I will take my 2022 CX-5 Signature Turbo all day everyday over the Q3 since it has more features like heads up display,- bigger infotainment screen and much lower cost of ownership over the long haul.
Lol
Its funny how car companies are different in each country. In Australia we cant get the Q3 45, they say it is because it would affect sales of the RSQ3 so all we get is the 35 and 40. The 35 being front wheel drive only and just 110kw and 250nm
As always - very insightful, informative and beautifully presented 👍👍👍
Thank you for the kind words and support
@@andreaspencer9813 Well deserved - I also very much enjoyed all your earlier videos on the Audi Q3 !!!
Full disclosure: we just ordered one last week from Audi Niagara - and watching your well done videos makes me look forward to it getting delivered even more...
@@r.michaels.9970 You are really going to love it, I would consider one for myself, it's a lot of fun to drive. Congratulations!!!
I fixed mine!
I called Audi and they fixed it.
I’ve had both and the Q5 is a noticeable step up
Obviously….since it’s a step up in price also. But nothing beats the Q3 in overall value!
Great review guys!
Informative video Andrea and Zack. Nice cars with good level of trim and performance.
Both are great choices!
@@andreaspencer9813 most definitely agree
Suffice to say, the AUDI Q3 - 40 TFSI has a decent size and an appealing, easy to use display. However, the drive lacks the typical Audi quality, and demonstrates a horrendous NVH factor ( noise vibration harshness ) as well as a substantially low fuel consumption).
This is my 4th AUDI ( but the first SUV/CUV). My Q3 barely gives 12-15 mpg in the city. Last but not least, unexpectedly the customer service provided by the Audi Sales dept. & the General Manager (Audi Wynnewood-Philadelphia) was below average, at best.
great video !! thank you
Had a Q3 as a loaner and thought it was great…until we loaded the cargo area with our daughters dance costumes, shoes, makeup kits… there was a lot of stuff. A Q5 ‘may’ have been better, but probably not much if it’s only slightly bigger. I did enjoy my time driving the Q3. Just wished it had a manual transmission.
That would be super fun with a manual! You are right it's not the biggest for cargo space, the X1 or X3 are better.
Will you review the all new 2022 A3? i would love a comparison of the A3 and the Q3
i prefer the q3 size but the lack of performance has kept me from purchasing. it is hard to give up my porsche macan but if they ever decide to go with a sq3, well that might make me jump
Q3 has the better interior IMO love how the screen blends into the dash, dunno why the q5 didn't do that, the stand up screen makes it looked dated
I don't know if you get the sport back versions of these cars we get in Europe. The look much better without much less practicality.
In the US, only Q5 is "available" in sportback...but they are like unicorn's.
Notice that your prices are far below what dealers are asking and more than the Audi canada site.
The Q5 is 4,682 mm L x 1,893 mm W x 1,662 mm H, weighs 1,935 kilograms (4,685 lbs). And still in North-America the industry has chosen to classify it as a “Compact” SUV. 😂 Nuts
Like the Q5 but if given a little more budget I'd actually go for the A4 Allroad.
I have a 2022 Q3 but I was told to only use premium fuel.
Great Review Thanks : ) Blessings to You Both : )
Thought the Q5 came with a DCT, not 'regular automatic transmission'?
Are you guys gonna review the 2023 hrv by any chance ?
Yes we will, just waiting for it to arrive, can't wait
Which year are the Audis? Never saw or heard a year ever
If you change driving mode to dynamic, the steering feel is more pronounced on my 2022 Q3
Q3 engine is NOT same as GTI. It's EA888 gen3B, more efficient but much slower than EA888 gen3 in GTI
Another parent bought a Q3 S line with those 20" wheels and that bright turbo blue colour. It's really sharp. I think I'd go with the Q3. A shame they don't make a SQ3
That sounds fabulous, it's got a great road presence!
Q5 should come with regular gas that would spur lots of more sales. The supreme gas is a waste of money and it really isn’t supreme most often times.
Thanks!
Thank you!
The Q3 needs more leg room in the back seats, way too tight. They should make them hybrid (Q3 has one), leave the fully electrical car for later.
Hi, thanks for great content. Q5 is made in Mexico I believe. Any idea where Q3 is made?
hungary
Will there be a comparisons between A4 A5🥹
Good review
Q3!
I’m sure some people are filling their Q5 with regular.
For sure!
Or a compromise with medium unleaded, perhaps?
Audi has very poor customer service. I own a Q5 and the rear axel was delivered “ out of alignment”. There was a recall, only after I had to purchase expensive new tires and axel alignment. Did Audi reimburse. Nope. Six months and crickets. I will never buy another Audi.
both have poor gas mileage so the interior is the only thing to consider. so Q5. Both should get at least 34 on the highway like the X1, GLA etc
Both
They're both Audi's so neither! 🤣🤣🤣
These models look old a sore eye they need to make them more modern looking in styling on the outside. They both need to redesigned.
Sonos....how does it sound??
👍👍👍
I am impressed with Q3
I'm first?!
What’s with Zach’s look of disgust and eye roll at 5:02? Very rude Zach.
