  • New Figure 8 Puffer Fish Tank! I can't wait to share the journey of the first few weeks of having new pufferfish with you. One of the little puffers ran into an issue, but I believe everything is doing well again. Make sure you watch to the end and see the current look of this brackish 40-gallon breeder aquarium. Subscribe to ScienceGal Aquatics and make sure the bell notification is clicked to see the process of these Figure 8 Pufferfish and all the other freshwater tanks in the fish room.
    Thanks for Watching. Enjoy!

    They are great little fish but just a bit of advise.
    Never move a puffer with a net they can puff up
    and take in to much air and not be able to release it and it can
    Cause them to perish.In some cases if that happens you may be able to burp them.
    But they all look good and healthy enjoy them to the fullest.

    Just discovered your channel and subbed! Figure 8 puffers are so cool they have some of the best markings of all puffers out there imo. Including my figure 8s I have nine total species of puffers and thus far I haven't had to treat for internal parasites more than once. If I saw evidence that there may still be a problem with internal parasites, I'd probably start with a half dose and then add more later if necessary. Love your four puffers, hoping the best for you.

    Puffer fish are not supposed to be taken out of water. It can stress them enough to make them puff up.
    When they do that outside of the water it's almost deadly everytime.

      Other vids show pushing them into a container instead of netting them, due to the blow-up factor.
      and proneness to disease, given no true scales.

    I wonder why it is soooo hard to find figure 8's in a group setting on TH-cam... Do they all just die?
    Please add your puffer Updates... Then, I will sub, as I am a puffer fan! :)

      - I DO NOT RECOMMEND GREEN SPOTTED PUFFERS for most people, as they are nearly Marine fish by adulthood... you have to change Everything for them to thrive.
      - Even though I can care for a Green Spotted Puffer, I regret that Figure 8's were not available on Maui, when I got mine. Thank God these 8's are much friendlier with each other, than many pufferfish...
      And you can actually have it mildly brackish with some plants!

    • @rudykozan5009

      They are really best as species only. As they get older they a lot more aggressive with eachother

    • @bubblerings
      @bubblerings ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rudykozan5009 Thx for the good tip.. I imagine they may behave in a huge tank.
      Would love to see that!
      -As even my Fahakas are less aggressive with more space. Going from 55 to 200 gallons or so next.
      They are 6 and 6.5 inches now. Cheers! 🍻🐠
      Edit.. So far, no damage to each other, although they used to bite the skin with no effects.

    I wish I could figure out what I am doing wrong with my puffer. He's got a 15 gallon and all he does is glass surf. Getting him to eat is complicated and I just don't know what to do. I've had him a month and since I got him that's all he does is surf one side then the other. I have to hold his food otherwise it will be wasted. He has good color and seems active but he doesn't explore very much nor does he eat like other puffers I've watched In videos. I feel like this is hopeless. He gets snails, krill, meal worms occasionally and regular ground worms. I've even tried to feed him shrimp and it's always hit or miss with him. I could hold it directly in front of him and he'll just continue to surf the glass and ignore the food.

      You could try asking the fish shop for advice especially the ones who seem really into the hobby vs just selling. Not all shopkeepers are knowledgeable from my personal experience.

    • @spiderboyjosh
      @spiderboyjosh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@voz5585 I tried asking when I bought my puffer. The guy told me just regular fish flakes. He didn't know and I had already looked up foods they eat. I was trying to see if they carried anything, but he didn't seem to care or know beyond putting fish in a bag.

      Live food or Seafood on a string helps, sometimes... use a needle to stab thru the fish or shrimp, clam, mussel meat pieces, whatever... If he's not sick, or high ammonia in the water, seafoods are usually eaten. Other vids swear by some freeze-dried Krill to keep the teeth ground down.
      As for the glass surfing... a larger tank with no bright light hitting near the glass is an option.
      They tend to surf their own reflections. some people add floating plants to stop the reflections.
      Or use lighting that only hits the tank center, not near the glass... so, the fish is not lit up when next to the glass. -Good luck!
      oh, you can hatch and raise brine shrimp, if your shop doesn't have them Live...
      I guess watch some vids for those... feed the shrimp yeast?
