I always thought he was top 3 in the world. See him live with Rainbow. So cool of cozy to go to a fans house and make his dream come true. What a great dude. RIP 🙏
Slide It In!!! What an album, I remember I was 20 back then, and I used to watch the Slow An' Easy video, just to look at Cozy (sorry, David, you are great, but you had a hell of a drummer!!!)
He was also on Record Breakers, and on Tiswas, he judged a drumming competition and the winner got o play along with him. Cozy was really complinatary to that kid.
@@davefrance3721 If I remember correctly, Cozy said that the kid could be “the next Buddy Rich”. Cozy Powell was certainly a ridiculously good drummer, but the more I see clips like these, the greater his loss becomes. Musicians as a whole can be a rather Insecure lot, especially the true greats. A lot of them would be concerned about coming off poorly if they’re not in total control of a situation. Cozy Powell, on the other hand, seemed to really enjoy these appearances, despite them possibly being out of his comfort zone. He was certainly a good sport.
Just listen to Cozy playing the old ELP repertoire live. Absolutely amazing!!!! Cozy was the perfect fit for Keith and Greg. Is Carl Palmer a good drummer? Of course, but never better than Cozy.
The coolest ever, adorable human being and to me, the greatest drummer. My all time favourite. Bonzo and Neil Peart are my #2, but, I can't help it, Cozy has been my absolute favourite since I got to know him halfway the 70s with Rainbow and Stargazer. I saw him live here in Argentina, in 1992, with Brian May. Absolutely terrific!!! A very versatile, creative drummer and a total showman. Love him!!
Lars I'm agree with you. But this comparing is not right I think. Cozy and Bonzo leave us many years ago. Ian Paice is alive. God gives him a healthy. He's my favourite drummer on rock stage. But you must to know all rock"n" roll fans of our planet are together.
@@mityaypolov6118 Yes I am aware of that and I agree with you, they have also completely different styles, Paice has also played double bass, like Cozy, but in a wider perspective, they are different in style. Cozy Powell was completely amazing and he and Ritchie got along very well. But if I should point out my absolute favorite drummer of all time, being completely devoted to Deep Purple (and Rainbow), I would say Ian Paice, no one, in the history of hard rock, can put up a solid drum beat, like Ian Paice, he is the ;Man, completely. I´m glad to read that about Mr. Ian Paice, you have good taste in music.
Don't you two men forget another double bass drum legend, Ginger Baker was one of the early guys on double bass, But double bass drums been around sense the early swing music days of the 20's and 30's the big band era, If i recall that is where Ginger got the idea to start using double bass..He was a fan of that type of music and Jazz.
@@Jeff-lu7wq No, I have not forgotten Ginger Baker and since you are referring to jazz drummers, maybe you should have mentioned the greatest drummer of them all, Mr. Buddy Rich, that´s The Man, talking great drummers and he played with double bass, as well. Maybe I should point out here, that we were talking great drummers, in the genre hard rock, foremost. But in a wider perspective, you are right about Baker and other great drummers.
This was great fun! Never had the pleasure of meeting the great man, but i was lucky enough to see him live (with Whitesnake) back in '83 and again in '84. Quite simply a phenomenal drummer! Always been a huge fan of the guy. This is a nice post and as i said, a lot of fun. RIP Cozy, and RIP Cheggers... \m/
I was lucky enough to see Cozy live! I think with Rainbow and again with Gary Moore. And maybe even Pat Travers? Not sure if he played with Travers or not but I think so. He was always incredible and super loud lol especially Rainbow!
Neil, Bonzo, Cozy, Collins until 82, Ian Pace are a great Top 5 Rock, Classic Rock, Prog Metal, Heavy Rock. IMHO of course, there are another 5 I'd love to put in, just needed more room, maybe NOT as heavyily recognizable as the 1st 5 mentioned. OR, maybe? Copeland, Bruford, Palmer, Bill Ward and Moon. Good backup 5. I'll change my mind 10 more times this year; EXCEPT for the Professor n' Bonzo 😆🙆🤍🥁🥳
Great drummer but did anyone notice Cozy had done a Levon Helm and switched to matched grip. Up there with all the greats and when you consider how many there are, Bonham, Paice, Collins, Palmer, Bruford, Smith, Ward etc it’s not a bad club to be in.
At least cozy died doing what he liked best beside drumming, he was talking to bob daisley on the phone racing his car and didn’t know what hit him!!!!He left a lot Behind for the world to remember him by!!!!
Nah, he was talking on his handheld mobile with his girlfriend, who was afraid that her husband was going to beat her, while going 100 mph in the rain in his Saab turbo and being pissed as a pot.
He was having an affair with her himself and on his way to do so in the husband's own home and bed. The married couple were young enough to be his own adult children. The crash happened because he was speeding drunk and bragging about it into his phone to the mistress. Brilliant drummer but offstage he was basically Bam Margera.
COZY POWELL is a great Drummer. Gone but not forgoten
RIP Cozy Powell 😪
Brilliant to see the thunderous Cozy again. A tragic loss to us rockers. Only glad I had the privilege to see him play live a number of times.
Cozy Powell is the world best hard rock & heavy metal Drummervin the world. RIP Cozy Powell.

Loved Cozy. Powerful influence.

I saw him with Brian May. I was speechless. Greatest drummer ever!!!
Slide It In!!! What an album, I remember I was 20 back then, and I used to watch the Slow An' Easy video, just to look at Cozy (sorry, David, you are great, but you had a hell of a drummer!!!)
Absolutely wonderful.

Cozy made those buckets sound good!
Rip Ronnie james Dio and cozy Powell and Jimmy Bain...
Mr. Colin "Cozy Powell" Trevor Flooks 🥁⚡🔥
Cozy was the real deal . So sad he's gone.
Best drummer ever
Cozy was such a good sport...he did one of those kids shows too I'm not sure what year it was. That was awesome too!!
He was on a tiswas show back in 79-80 and judging a kids drumming competition, it’s on TH-cam
He was also on Record Breakers, and on Tiswas, he judged a drumming competition and the winner got o play along with him. Cozy was really complinatary to that kid.

Cozy Powell, besides Ian Paice, the really true Master! That´s what I call a drummer!

Thanks a lot for share! :) I am a very big Cozy's fan!
Me too. He was a sublime drummer and a really lovely bloke. It was a real pleasure to meet one of my heroes. Thanks Katya.

How that happened? Do you actually play drums? That's a lot what I can say about Mr. Powell! We was born in one day...

Saw him with rainbow twice and once more with someone else and I can't remember who he traveled around so much back 8n the day
@@jerrywoods4066 we are the lucky ones, friend🤘
Black sabbath and whitesnake were 2 more groups he played in
Not Travers, but he did play with Michael Schenker. Cheers.
Seen Cozy with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and the Peter Green Splinter Group.
Thats his ELP kit. he did a great job in that band back in 86...
A Great One (Powell) following a Great One (Palmer).
And the E and the L of ELP weren’t so bad either, regardless of who the P was.
Indeed, and he played it with Brian May and Black Sabbath
EXCELLENT BEAUTIFUL AMAZING SUBLIME INMORTAL THE GREAT MASTER COZY POWELL
Colin "Cozy Powell" Trevor Flooks Rip 🎵🎼🎶😭🙏
コージーは素晴らしいドラマーだった。

That's the first time, I've him using the matched grip, he usually likes the standard rudamental grip.....

コージーパウエルのドラム叩く凄さ。
Cozy the reason I picked up a pair of sticks 30 yrs ago.
Me too more than 45 years ago. But first air drumming to "Dance with the Devil" with my mom's knitting needles 😄😎
@@SteveCrump I didn't see Cozy live until 1984, Whitesnake. Those chrome cannons made a huge impression

Listen to those drums sing!

It's a double tragedy that Cozy had that crash and didn't get to beat the wife-beater senseless.

It's COZY, not COSY.
