Cozy Powell's drumming prowess is truly legendary. From his iconic solo pieces like 'Dance with the Devil' to his collaborations with renowned bands such as Rainbow, Whitesnake, and Black Sabbath, Powell has left an indelible mark on the world of rock and roll. His unique style and unparalleled skill have inspired countless drummers and music enthusiasts worldwide. It's always a treat to revisit his performances and be reminded of the sheer talent and passion he brought to every beat. A true icon in the history of rock music.
I was fortunate enough to see Cozy Powell perform with Rainbow. Have also visited his Blue Plaque dedication in Cirencester, UK. Also loved seeing him on Tiswas, where he'd get involved in all the antics and give away bits of kit as prizes. Incomparable Legend.
Power and passion, ine of the GREATEST drummers in music history. Cozy, you ARE the best!!!! I saw you in Argentina with Brian May and you blew me away!! Love you always❤.
As awesome as he is (Cozy will NEVER die), that ability to fluidly switch between traditional and "rock" grips while maintaining such a beautiful maelstrom is just mind blowing.
Love how at the end Ritchie looks back and smiles at Cozy. Beautiful! Cozy Powell was one of the very few people capable of impressing Ritchie Blackmore. Extraordinary drummer.
Ritchie did have a way of eeking out the best of his band , whichever band he was in. Then again he could fire you without a reason. He was quirky that way. Cozy didn’t need Ritchie anyway.
Yeah, man. He's one of the very, very best. I've been listening to him since The Jeff Beck Group, circa 1972. Check him out on Kill The King by Rainbow. Another UNbelievable performance. Rock In Peace, Cozy!!
@unadrummer561 will do, thanks for the rec! He owns that double bass. Have u heard that double album live in Japan w/ J Beck & Carmine Appice on drums - they burn the place down.
So true. I mean, for example in Whitesnake, I think Ian Paice was more suited to the band's sound, but when it comes to being EXCITING, no one came close to Cozy.
I saw him with Brian May in Argentina in 1992 and BANG!!!!! Seeing live my favourite drummer was a dream come true to me!!!! I've followed most of his career, and to me he was always the best.
OMG!! To be a bass player with Cozy on drums must have been a wet dream. Being bassman myself, I cannot fathom the room Daisley must have had in fill ins, syncopation, 16th note runs, bass drum accents and straight ahead full charging walking runs, playing with Cozy. Cozy could make even a mediocre bass player shine. A true master of rock drumming.
I love all classic rock drummers but I don't think everyone can play like a beast over a classical piece and make it sound like the drums were part of it. Truly amazing, and he so handsome and lovely. I'm a guitarist but he is one of my heroes and inspirations.
@@alanfletcher9698 yes, both were awesome drummers, but pity, that a lot of good hard rock and roll/heavy metal drummers are dead or too old to paly .....
Ruby you can get use to it, the position, just like strapping a pro NASCAR driver into his custom fitted racing seat, tho back stretches come in pleasurably handy
Different styles. Baker was great as well. There is no greatest. Other drummers on the same level are Ian Paice, John Bonham, Bill Ward, Danny Carey, Neil Peart, Dave Garibaldi, Earl Palmer, Steve Gadd, Bill Bruford, to name a few.
he was one of the best in his time (!!), there are lots of worldclass rock drummers.....in the 70s and 80s....pure musicians without the millions of possibilities that everyone has got today..... quality and talent were always the basic of all..... you can dislike me for that.....that solo was nothing special, every 16 year old good drummer can play it technically, nothing difficult, but the power and the passion is admirable.....sorry !!
Markus have to disagree w/the lack of technicality, or 16yr olds are just abound rattling off those chops COZY laid out @ certain points & parts of this solo along w/the speed & power then into great sound dynamics demoed
Markus you have points as to some of the 2&4 limb flam rolls and odd synced limb chop flams along w/classic "falling-rocks Brit style" as to somewhat basic for an experienced "air-drummer" taking it to the kit aft only 6-12mnths of practice, BUT even w/that his speed AND smoothness were pro-style advanced esp in speed varables AND sound dynamicc blended-into the mix power rock exhibition type solo, but still not many w/the flair, speed & grace even on those easier fill show rolls, BUT the snare work esp doubles stroke rolls smoothed into hard-core buzz-rolls was oure pro even for todays standards, along w/quick multi accented speed-rolls were more advanced than many may think
Magic on a seven-piece. Cozy was (and will always be) the best.
One of the greatest drummers ever.

Hard. Solid.powerful. On of the best. They don’t make like this anymore. Long live cozy.
Cozy my fav drummer .rip 😢
In saw this tour in '77 a few weeks after this gig, it was awesome. And Cozy's solo, spellbinding and blinding at the end!
It just never gets any better. RIP Cozy and thank you
One of very few genius drummers. He worked with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake and many others. He really died too young.
R I P cozy ❤❤❤
Yes he did die to youg ❤❤❤
Jeff Beck.

Matched grip predates Rock.
Absolutely fantastic best drummer ever bless him shame he died so young
RIP Cozy. Already 20 years today !

👏👍🤘

That's the first time a drummer has ever given me goosebumps! Even Paice or Bonham have never done that to me... Thanks for posting this!
I agree and was comparing to Baker (who I love) but this was just the best.
When I lived in UK I had a black persian cat named Cozy - after Cozy Powell. I brought her to America with me.
He named himself after Jazz drummer Cozy Cole.
Cozy IS one of the BEST drummers \m/
COZY made it look easy, him & Bonham were two of the best EVER!!! I was lucky enough to see both of them. RIP LEGEND’S🙏🙏🙏🙏
Now that's DOUBLE BASS!!😁👍🏻👍🏻
He was a master Tommy Aldrich is the other master
Absolutely fantastic ❤
Great 😊 a 🥁 drummer!🎉
Cozy Powell the Best Forever
Over the top. Hammer. Immer wieder begeisternd.cozy war könig
This is fantastic!
RIP Cozy!! For ever!!!
.....großartig, er wird immer in unseren Herzen bleiben...
Best Drummer ever....!!!!
Truly one of the greats
In the year of 1812, he single-handedly won against the Empire of the French in the battle of Munich.
Powell, Blackmore and Dio...... was there ever a better lineup? 🤘
Non existence
Beck Bogart Appice as Good
Nope!!!
Yes. It removed RJD and included Graham Bonnet.
Don't forget Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. Emerson Lake and Powell
Cozy powell unico è inimitabile. Per me il più grande batterista
I've been a drummer all my life and I just heard of this guy in 2023?! Wtf. Absolute beast!
You must be really young

I love Neil Peart's work, but DANG! I have to say Cozy was the best! Especially with the Brian May band. RIP my brother drummer. We all miss you.
So true. I mean, for example in Whitesnake, I think Ian Paice was more suited to the band's sound, but when it comes to being EXCITING, no one came close to Cozy.
I love Peart but Cozy always had the best solos outside of Buddy Rich.

He sounds like drummer, he looks like a drummer.. that's why he's the chosen one.
Let's see a stupid digital PLUG IN do that ey !
COZY POWELL BaBy!!😁👍🏻👍🏻
I saw him do this at a 1973 RAK concert in London....BLEW ME AWAY
Awesome
❤ the one and only Cozy Powell...like a beautiful crazy stampeed wild Horses...Samurai ❤😅
Охренеть был барабанщик супер!❤ пусть земля его будет пухом!
Cozy Powell along with Carmine Appice, Ginger Baker and Neil Peart are the best hard rock/heavy metal drummers of all time.
Don't forget ian paice or you don't regard him as a good drummer.
Keith Moon John Bonham

I took him to a Hollies gig in the early 80's and he told me Bobby Elliot inspired him to play the drums.
Cozy Powell and Richie Blackmore...State of the Art for Hard and Heavy Metal Rock forever..
Saw him with the JEFF BECK GROUP ROUGH AND READY. IN CHICAGO ARIE CROWN. GREAT!
Poaw what a great drummer
fab,1,of the best ever.
Simply the best👍🤘👏🥁
wow...& wow again///
Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!
What a legend Cozy was. One of the greatest without doubt. Hopefully jamming with Ronnie Dio. RIP to two rock legends.
That posture looks so uncomfortable, hunched over the snare. Cozy was outstanding. I saw rainbow on this tour. Just amazing
Me too, lucky us
@@jimmiefrancis142 yeah lucky you, confirm!
Buddy Rich also hunched over his snare...they were both in love with their drums...R.I,P Cozy Powell...legend...

Monstrous!
PLAY LOUD. From the great over the top album.
Remember the Donnington gig and the helicopters very impressive
His traditional as opposed to matched drumstick grip shows his Jazz influence.
To intergrate 1812 overture with the legendary Cozy Powell wow
That traditional grip will fuck off all the 14-year-old blast beaters!
Cozy, come back to Life to play drums as never
That was a great drum solo
Perfect!
Cozy in the house!!
How awesome
The Best!!
Had the luck to see him with Rainbow in '79.
i love him! if only the rainbow reunion in 1997 would have happened - cozy was so keen on doing it…unfortunately fate was different
BAD ASS ONLY 1 COZY POWELL ..
Er war der Beste RIP
OK, Pyotr had finished, Cozy had not! Go on ya!
I’d love to know what Richie was trying to say to Cozy at around 6:11? Also I’d love to have seen the rest of Still I’m Sad. Great number.
😘😉😆😆😆eccezionale!
WoooW
This one makes G. Baker look like a rank amature. Cozy was best in world ever.
