Congrats with 200k
Thanks 🙏
If it’s priced like a Model Y I’d get an EV5 no question.
In China, the EV5 starts at CNY160,000 ($22000), while the MODEL y starts at CNY260,000($36355.15).
Wow that is an amazing price. Of course the CNY is a fake currency so you gotta at 30% to match US pricing. There are no discounts on metal anywhere; the Chinese govt is just a bunch of cheaters. They wouldn't have nearly as much export biz if they operated with a single currency. An abusive trade practice. The Model Y is 48k here. But even with a 30% bump in price the EV5 would be a stupendous success here; nothing this good under 40k in the US, and 22k * 1.3 = 28.6k. That would make it one of the cheapest cars on the market; about the same price as the Maverick XLT.
Meanwhile our UAW is on strike, thinking that the US big 3 are too rich... there is a global oversupply of automotive factory capacity, and we are going to get creamed here in the USA.
this is the form factor I'm looking for
Yeah these are very nice EV’s Hyundai/Kia is kicking ass!
EV9 and most likely the EV5 are all new battery sets (multiple) on top of a all new carrying case. As we found out with the EV6, the second year is the sweet spot. Wrinkles, Kinks and Demand are in the rear view mirror. 😉 14:39
Do we have to wait until October for official ground clearance numbers?
Do you know if its coming to the US?
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this ev crossover here
One thing you missed that I could see in the photos was heated/ventilated seat controls are on the doors, same as in the EV9.
Congratulations for 200k
Thanks 🙏
🎉200k 🎊 congratulations 😊 I really love the EV5 and the taillights are very Polestar-ish 🤭 not a bad thing.
Kirk, I *sure* hope the EV5 gets the tax credit because this is the first BEV SUV that has looked to me! I like the cost-cutting measures in the design, and if the range is around 300, we could get it as the non road-trip car, and get a hybrid Grand Highlander for our road-tripper. Very nice! (Although I've got mixed feelings about the "center console" design.)
It’s probably not coming to the US anytime soon. Just Korea and China
If Kia can build this and the EV9 in the USA, they will have the EV SUV market pretty well sown up!
Brilliant review dude
The new Model3 Highland rear lights also looks like Polestar.
Saw it at the Bangkok motorshow yesterday. Loved it bar the cheap looking leatherette seats. I see it comes in really nice Volvo style cloth fabric seats in some markets. Tesla beats it on acceleration but for someone who wants a more normal driving experience ie indicator stalks etc, this is the one. Price in Thailand is amazing. 1.25m baht for base model, but the one you want is long range version with that special battery pack. Undercuts model Y LR by approx 15%
I live in China! Been here for about 12 years. I looked at the Model Y today, but this Kia is so much less expensive and looks quality. I’ll go test drive one soon.
I just like how unique Kia and Hyundai designs are nowadays and the future models
I'm interested in a comparison between the EV5 and the Santa Fe (or the next size down if that's more appropriate.) And unless you know what scale the vehicle is displayed at, it's impossible to compare size.
No one company has to beat Tesla, just be profitable enough to continue making EVs as competition will only be good for consumers.
Congrats!!!🎊🎉🍾
Honestly, if they get the range up a bit then absolutely.
I just hope the "park your cars outside because it can catch fire" recalls and whatnot stop. Because if they don't, then maybe not if it gets bad enough.
You're very ignorant. I bet you ignored the toyota fire recalls that happened last week. Exactly like all you fanboys do is deny and have amnesia about it.
@@oga3309whats worse they also had recalls on faulty airbags. AGAIN. half a million jdms and teslas.
engine fires make big headlines. but most survive. faulty airbags? not a chance. your toyota may survive the crash but not the driver 😂
@@uludak8468 Let's not forget wheels falling off and hybrid shutdowns
@@oga3309I like how you nitpick these recalls from the past and ignore the elephant in the room, which is the Hyundai Kia recalls. Look it up how many they had! After Ford, VW, GM, then Hyundai Kia! Toyota comes in last with the least number of recalls. You Toyota haters really are a joke aren’t you.
@@mrgurulittle7000 nope. Toyota has more recalls than Hyundai and KIA this year. Sorry to burst your bubble of delusion, but toyota has way more problems than hyundai and kia. Look at JD power why Hyundai is ranked higher on quality and reliability than toyota. While you dissolve this message into that empty brain of yours, take your meds for your schizophrenic self.
In most asian country, (specially south east asia) that overflow seat / armrest thing will indeed become an extra seating for a passenger. There is no "maximum" passenger on some countries. If they fits, they sits.
I like that the shifter is on the column. But I wouldn't agree that twisting it to select gears is intuitive. I am used to traditional column shifters that move up and down. I would be trying to move it up and down if it didn't know it works by twisting it.
You would learn very quickly
I'd appreciate a reference to reliability, especially vs. Toyota.
18months/45k miles later on ev6 wind awd. It’s simply the best car i’ve ever had. usable hatchback, room for adults in back seat. i get predictable mileage (except in 25 degree F below). Can’t wait for the rest of the hyundai kia fleet to follow suite and expand the platform
Good analysis! The battery pack is supplied by BYD in China in order get the cost control. Suggest you to come to Guangzhou Autoshow on Nov 2023 or Beijing Autoshow April 18 2024 to discover more
Nice
What if? That console that you think prohibits the middle seat in the front…what if that console slides under the seat ?!?🤯
Really like the EV5 dash. Nice blend of old and new and not cluttered. Not for sure about the middle "seat". I like the outside much better than the EV9. Koreans do seem to be the ones to shake things up.
I somehow don't think we will get this car in the USA which is too bad, because I like it a lot. The boxy shape gives you tons of room; basically a Honda Odyssey / Toyota Sienna in EV form (minus the sliding doors). The Koreans are so far ahead of the Japanese in EV evolution it isn't funny. Must make Toyota very envious.
Is it coming to the US, is the biggest question...
Kia and Hyundai can truly compete with Tesla. They will win
They're like the only competitors that can do so.
Unfortunately what is holding both of them back is dealerships. Many Kia/Hyundai dealers are still marking up vehicles.
Teslas lineup starting to look ancient.
Haha.🙄 Let’s see when solid state batteries come out. Who even wants already outdated Li-ion battery EVs. I can see the value of current EVs take a nosedive when solid state battery EVs come out.
@@mrgurulittle7000 LMAO toyota needs tesla's help to make better EVs. Let's face it, tesla is about to outsell toyota and toyota is going to be the minority. Hyundai and KIA has better reliability ratings than toyota today. It's a fact.
I like the looks of the EV9 but the proportions are massive. I also like the interior of the EV9. There's too much lost real-estate space between the right side air vent and center of the dash in the EV5. If KIA went smaller and called it the EV7 and made it self-charging, I might be swayed.
I love it. But that black cladding over the wheel arches just like on the EV9 is not my cup of tea.
Kia, I live in Nigeria. Please, make EV9 ICE AND EV5 ICE for rhe Nigerian market.
They were developed solely to be EVs from the ground up, so it wouldn't make sense.
@@speakingofgreg Well, maybe. But we have seen Hyundai Motor Company adapt the chassis of some ICE models to EVs, the Genesis G80 and GV70 are 2 examples. Therefore same can be done from EV to ICE with the EV9. Never say never!🙏🏾😊
That tuscon screen looks nightmarish
I am in china and they are going to release it in October-nov. pre sales booking already started. it got 700 km cltc range as advertised by kia here... price 160000 RMB (ex-showroom), which is very cheap approx. USD 22000.
You do realize real world range is about 350km.
Yeah, Living in China and watching Kirk's videos.
What was old is new again… Bring back the manual column shifter! 😅
I dont get why we are constantly pumping out all of these heavy electric SUVs. Arent we trying to be eco friendly?
"If you live in china watching this, comment down below that would be fascinating" with the youtube is blocked in china on the screen made me lol
Oh, I'm finna get freaky in the passenger seat
Just needs to be same or cheaper then Tesla cars, no point otherwise. They are way over priced here in New Zealand
I'm kind of bored of all these manufacturers releasing these EV's when almost none of them can actually produce them at a reasonable level. It feels like a lot of smoke and mirrors, honestly.
Last car is easily available the EV6.
@@MrRaitziIsn’t it easily available because nobody really wants them?
@@mrgurulittle7000 I don't know. I think Koreans and Tesla are selling good. Europeans and American shit brands bad.
Lithium batteries are still difficult to mine/make. Relax, it's new tech compared to gasoline
@@jjjj5452 New expensive unneeded tech. Actually, EVs in general were invented before ice cars.
That Polestar 5 is really nice looking.
I’ll take this baby over those overpriced tesla all day!!! Thank you kia
Why isn't there an ev where u can buy generators for more range
Kirk, you are trying to compare them too much with other vehicles.
Let me tell u the truth, EV5 starts from 20k usd in china, the top trim only costs 30k usd
The problem is the this EV5 will probably be priced like a model y but will have a third less range.
The word on the street is that the EV5 long range model will have an 82 kWh battery pack allowing for a ~373-mile range
Looks a LOT like the Fisker Ocean
rumors say the EV5 is based on BYDs drivetrain. so its likely a china only model
I wouldn't believe Fleetwood Mac when it comes to EVs....
This is a global model and will be sold in Europe and North America - this was confirmed by Kia at the EV9 launch!
All ev can compete if they submit to Tesla to use their chargers 🤷🏼♂️
Anybody thinking this is going to be priced like a Model Y are lost in space. The EV6 AWD GT line is 7k dollars less than a Model Y AWD here in Canada. And the EV6 comes with an 800V charging system. The EV5 will have a 400V system to make it cheaper than the EV6. So I expect this to be maybe 3k cheaper than the EV6.
LOL the pic of the Tuscan touch screen.... Kirk, you be eating fried chicken while driving bro? 🤣
bhahaha no bro - the screen is a black hole of prints
@@KirkKreifels yah..... I see fried chicken or some kind of fancy hand cream....
Didn't tesla promise a 30k car....10 years ago? lol rip
Chinese are too nationalist to take Korean cars seriously. I rarely see any South Korean brand cars of any kind on the streets these days. This is partly because of the government propaganda like the dispute on Korean’s importing American missile defense system, partly because of some korean companies’ inappropriate handling of its detect products, like the incident of a old model of Samsung galaxy phone with an exploding battery and the way Samsung tackled this matter inside and outside China.
*With so few lever 3 chargers, this vehicle only have a 300 miles range, which it will give you range anxiety since you can't even fill it to a 100% of it capacity when traveling, meaning you will end up with 240 miles when charging it up to 80%. IMAGINE how many stops you will need to do when traveling 1200 miles.*
That's why I prefer gasoline vehicles since they do have over 350 miles of range and you can fill them in 2 minutes and keep going.
About 4 times charging, each time is about 20 minutes. 80 minutes of total charging time. 80 minutes will count toward break and rest. Your gasoline mileage will need 3 times refueling, about 12 minutes of total refueling time... driving the 1200 miles, you would need around 30 min rest on gas car. 12+30 is 42 minutes. About 38 minutes is how much longer a 250 miles per charge EV would take compared to 350 mi per tank gas car. Or with no break, then 68 mins.
@@nguyep4 Is not wise to refill/recharge at 1 mile or 1% charge left. In gas I refilled about 6 times because as soon as I am under 90 miles, I start looking for gas stations, in EV I wouldn't take any chances since there are less stations for EVs, it would be over 10 times at least
First!
No. The New Kia EV5 is not enough to beat TESLA but... Kirk Kreifels easily beats Elon Musk..
They did in reliability. What else are you on about kid?
“Kia” and “incredible” don’t go in the same sentence.
When are they going to start letting you review Bentleys?
Why are you jealous of KIA for? You think toyota are any better?
When I want to review Bentley I will. 🙂
The only vehicle brands i trust are honda and toyota families! Mazda is doing big things but needs the power put down better.
Nobody wants electric cars
I do!
I don’t need one either.
Another car nobody really wants.
come outside out of your house. Plenty of kias on the road
Come on Kirk, how can you call this "incredible" when both you and me know from numerous tests EV9 only gets real world 240-ish miles. In mild summer weather. In winter it's down to about 178 miles. Oh, did I mention that is with 0-100% charge. Most people don't go below 10% and above 80-90%, so in that case range is even less...... . Let's face it, except maybe Model X (which costs like mortgage with current loan rates) with it's more or less realistic close to 300 miles range - there's no other 3 row yet that can be at least ok-ish, let alone incredible lol. Please don't mistake your viewers for idiots who will eat anything you say.
