At this point I think these companies just announce cars coming soon at great prices so that fewer people will buy a Tesla today. It looks like a great vehicle, but I’ll be shocked if it comes out at that price and made in the US. Hopefully it will

I think it’s really more of an emergency option if there was a power failure that looked like it wouldn’t be resolved quickly. Other possibility would be load-shifting to accumulate power during the night and use during the day. If you weren’t doing this too frequently and not fully charging & discharging it probably wouldn’t lessen the life by too much.

My brother in law bought a new base model Nissan Quasqai in late 2021 for $33000 AUD. The EV sales people need to understand that most people cannot afford what they're asking, so EV'S will remain a niche market.

Rant incoming: You know why a lot of people aren't looking at EVs for their next car? Because of the dearth of models that are cheap enough in their budget range (which for a lot of people are likely only around $20k-$30k). And this is AUD - not USD.

“Starting” price is misleading. M3 and F150 Lightning both taunted starting price of $35-40k, before tax incentives and savings. “Average” price of sell is what matters. It’s extremely doubtful Kia/Hyundai can make an avg $35k car, especially in US. From what we’ve seen so far, if it takes $15k to make China, it takes 25k to make in South Korea. $40k in Europe and $45k in US.

No way in the world is this EV going to get 420 miles, even from a LFP battery that you are allowed to charge/discharge to 100/0%. The figures are derived from the Chinese system so deduct 30%. If using NCM or NCA batteries deduct another 20%, now you're down to 224miles. Different story now. Even with a gov discount, it's still more then my Mazda 2 turbo diesel which gets 600 miles at 75 mph and takes 5 mins to recharge. Until an EV gets anywhere near that, I'm sticking to diesel.

everyone knows you are a huge EV fan... .but 1. you do not have winters to talk about... we have -20C commonly which kills any battery or at least 1/2 your range... 2. you have to plan your trips around your driving habits, where I just jump in the car and fill up the gas whenever the car starts yelling at me that i have 50 miles left worth of gas at which point i swing into the first gas station i see and i am done in 2-3 minutes. 3. the repairs in general seems to be way more expansive then gas cars. I dont want to sound that EVs are waste of time and money.. they are not ... some people love them and there is northing wrong with that... at this point i might entertain the idea of a hybrid.. but not a pure EV no matter how much they are.

Not all batteries are alike, and your anecdotal stories are not a one-size-fits-all argument against Evies in the winter. Norway is adopting BEV’s Eddie , quicker rate than most nations, and they experience colder temperatures and longer winters. I would dig further to do your due diligence, and I think you may be surprised how much better today’s BEV batteries are than just a few years ago.

,, don't forget there is #1) No rules in place on forcing recycling dead EV batteries. #2) No way to fight EV battery fires. They release deadly pollution #3) Battery storage facilities are all grouped together, no sperate walls that can e flooded with water. If one storage battery goes off, they all do. #4) home storage batteries are stored inside the home / garage with no containment in case of 🔥
