Looked at the market pretty closely since everything was pretty much brand new in the midsize segment when I was shopping. After seeing the complete unavailability of Rangers at the time and the markups dealers were sticking on the new Tacos, my stripper ZR2 for $48K was the easy choice. Better equipped and cheaper than the Taco and actually available unlike the Ford at the time, plus it's just a genuinely fantastic option in the space. Tons of off-road capability, great looks, surprisingly good on-road manners and great tech (save for the now-recalled auto-braking system), even without going nuts on the options. Anyone going with another truck probably isn't making a bad choice because everything in the segment is pretty rad. They just have different priorities, and I can't fault that at all. I have a 2019 Colorado ZR2 that I purchased fully stocked for 39,000. It’s a little disheartening to see only five years later. The prices have jumped almost 20,000.😢
I think for the price difference in these high end trucks vs other trims that GM should give these more power and tq.. just kind of set them apart a little
Hi Ben. I love your reviews but sometimes you speak a little too fast, but it’s all good as you give an unbiased opinion. I will comment with regards to the space in a midsize truck which at one time they were labeled as a quarter ton truck. I currently own a 2022 Colorado ZR2. I have had 2 Chevy Z71 full-size trucks and one full size GMC in the past, but in February of 2023 I decided to downsize so I purchased a model with the V6. The truck has plenty of power, 308 hp I believe, the stability and ride is excellent, but another reason for my purchase was the front and rear lockers making it a true 4Wheel Drive. My other vehicles had a limited slip rear differential or should I say, Posy Track, which was a phrase patented by Chevy. Now I will comment on the previous post made with regards to the room in the truck. Anyone who is a larger size will almost take up the full cab where your elbows are that close, they will touch. As for the rear seat, they are basically made for children. An average size adult will fit, but it’s still a bit cramped. Now I’ll give you my opinion with regards to the comfort of the front seats. Both are power seats with heat and lumbar support but I can honestly say that it has to be the hardest and the most uncomfortable seat that I have ever sat in when it comes to trucks. After an hour or so I have to stop and stretch my back because the seat feels like your sitting on a brick and my wife tells me that the passenger seat is just as bad. So I ordered a full-size Trail Boss and I’ll never buy a midsize truck again. Maybe other midsize trucks from different manufacturers are good so I can only speak on my Colorado and as for the ride and the room with a full size truck compared to a midsize truck, there is no comparison. Thank you and keep sending out videos. Cheers to you sir.
I think that colour does a great job at matching the front bumper colour to the body - outside of black, GMC and Chevy have a real hard time with colour matching the plastic to the metal.
Same here. 23p4x. I would have bought this truck if I wasn't looking for a 15+ year truck. Ya gotta go Nissan frontier for that! I would LOVE to own this truck for the first 100k miles but not any longer. This is something you lease....beat the life out of it and give it back!

Just recently traded my 2022 Frontier for a 24 ZR2 Bison and won’t look back. The build and design quality between the two don’t even compare, and that’s coming from someone who has exclusively owned Nissan vehicles for the last 8-10 years.

Ben what happen to that camera view while you were test driving? Anyway the ZR2 looks more off-road worthy than the Ranger Raptor. It sits higher off the ground and just plan looks better while being almost 10 GRAND LESS. The Ranger has the edge in the engine department but that is all. Overall I think the ZR2 is a better option for most people
For that price, should have leather standard, power rear window, power running boards and so much more!! Was thinking of buying one, now I know I would not waste my money. Thanks for the video!
Will say confidently that I'm not a truck person. But recent life changes have made it necessary, or at least a consideration. This truck appeals to me and am excited to test drive one. Very practical, utilitarian, and actually appears to have a nice interior for a truck. Seems to offer more than plenty for a normal individual with occasional hauling needs.
When I needed a truck last year, I looked into getting a Bison. I really liked it, the Raptor wasn’t out at the time. Got the F-150 Heritage Edition for the same price. I would consider a Bison if I move back to a midsize truck.
It's interesting that this truck has more horsepower and torque than the SS454 Silverado had back in the day, and it weighs less. This truck is NOT lacking for power.
Toyota CEO bailed saying "I don't like the direction Toyota is going." Fast forward to today 2 years later. Toyota reliability has plummeted, recalls and lawsuits are at the companies highest, plus they just look UGLY AF. They usually look great, but the designers lost their damn minds this new style.
Had a 23 Colorado Trail Boss for not even a year and it didn’t even reach 10K Miles. 2 dead batteries and then the valve body in the transmission bursted and it was at the dealer for two months until I decided not to put up with it anymore and traded it in for a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. I’m a huge GM fanboy and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to switch to the Frontier. Oddly enough despite what people have said about GM, I’ve never had any issue with a GM product until the 23 Colorado.
Brian, I’ve known so many people with Chevy trucks and cars that swear by them. I may be one of those that have incredibly back luck with the brand. I owned two vehicles that were bought back and purchased a 2012 Camaro that had part of the engine bay missing paint. It was like the paint robot froze or the computer rebooted in the middle of the job. Was weird to see on a brand new car. I just feel that GM quality, at least for me isn’t there, at all.

Both the Ranger Raptor and Colorado ZR2 are great looking trucks. I would argue the Colorado is the better looking truck. Objectively, it is the better value. The Ranger Raptor doesn’t offer backseat HVAC vents or ventilated front seats. The Colorado offers those features for less money. The Raptor makes up for it with high speed performance, but truck’s aren’t normally purchased for speed.
A 4 cylinder that only gets 17mpg highway! I get trucks aren't going to get good fuel economy but my hemi ram still gets 18.5mpg average on a tank and in the 19's on the highway... With 3.92 gearing
The motor is just a little to qeak. Would much rather pay the extra 8k for a much better motor and rear suspension. Leaf springs need to go for offoroad trucks.
@@Andrew-hi2rj Way less? The sticker on this truck was a little over 51k to get it basically all the options the base model Raptor comes with with a sticker of 55k. Sure same torque...but with a 3.42:1 axle ratio and 8speed trans vs a 4.27:1 with a 10 speed Raptor will put more of that power to the ground vs ZR2 🤷♂
For that price I'd just get a Silverado. Midsize pickup trucks can feel really cramed after prolonged driving plus for passengers the backseats are too tight. You can get s trailboss 2024 Silverado for $51k.
I just wrote a review. You are 100% correct and I can attest to that as I own a Colorado. Never again will I buy a midsize truck. Great comment sir. You called it spot on. Cheers to you my friend for keeping it real.
Agreed. These are not trucks set up for backseat passengers unless they are small people. In addition, the MPG rating is terrible. Possibly the Ranger 2.7 V6 will be more fuel efficient and Ford does have slightly better rear passenger space.
I bought the 2024 Colorado ZR2 over the Ranger Raptor because of price and availability. Though loaded, I put on more options. It was still cheaper than the Raptor.
I love the ZR2's design. Overall, the ride was smooth and tight. However, if I'm going to spend $53,000, I would consider spending a bit more to get the Ranger Raptor, as it offers much better value for the money. That’s just my opinion.
lol the Tacoma is going to be a massive fail. Honestly, the last generation looks so much better and I was worried they were going to screw the design up... the new one looks like they bought a tacoma then went online an bought a third party "concept" body kit and screwed it on. I'm going Colorado for sure this time around.. or a Canyon...
Its gonna be a pro 4x for me....this is a beautiful truck but i will be pulling a 6x10 enclosed trailer with 900 lb Atv inside !! ...i feel this its too much for a 4cyl
I wish they'd do a 5.3 or at least turbo v6. I bet you've gotta rev the piss out of that 4 cylinder to get those peak numbers. I'll bet it's gutless in the lower rpms.
I'm not going to be happy with this channel until I get a thumbnail with Ben standing next to two trucks with literal 2 gallon canteens in each pocket, I mean the current pocket contents aren't nearly enouch! I need phones, keys, canteens, a few cats, in EACH pocket. I want those pockets so overstuffed that a paratrooper in cargo pants would be jealpous. But seriously Ben, load up those pockets. The TH-cam algoritm appreciates you.
You need to give pertinent details and specs. Don't just say it has 'an outlet', we need to know the #'s. It will never happen with the leftist lunatics in charge at the EPA. There will be NO light duty diesel engine that will meet the '27-'28 emission standards that they plan to adopt. The whole plan is regulate ICE vehicles out of existence, and force people to spend a fortune for an EV--or either stay home or ride a bus.

I have the 21, love the front, and rear deferential on that zr2. Only midsize that has it i believe.
Looks great. Engine and MPG are trash. So why the hell do cups if the MPG is the same or worse?
The advertised MPG is inaccurate.
Im getting 18-19city and low 20s highway.
It obviously tanks when I offroad or blow the tires off having fun.
GM really needs to come out with a Colorado/Canyon based SUV to compete with Wrangler, Bronco, and 4Runner/LC. They're really missing a market.
$54K midsize off-road ZR2 isn’t bad. Nice looking truck.
Did you hear yourself?!
It isn’t good either. 54k for a midsize is ridiculous.
Put the pipe down man. That price is WILD.
@@emb647 I have the Bison with the AEV package now. Fully loaded beast.
Damn good looking truck. Unfortunately it’s a GM product. Having had two that were bought back under California Lemon Law, I’ll never buy another one
If these things end up reliably lasting a quarter million miles, I’ll consider it. But I’ll drive my 2nd Gen Tacoma for another decade until then.
Fair but same can be said about the new taco.
@@951mediafair, but at least it’s a Toyota.
Nice styling but u can’t trust modern GM build quality or reliability…
Excuse me sir but we at Wentzville GM put our blood sweat and tears into building those vehicles. Thank you!

This is a damn good looking truck!
That is a very good looking mid size.
I think that a. Colorado zr2 SUV like a jeep or bronco would be awesome . maybe you can get this idea out
Does that head rest have 4 way adjust ? Back and forward ?
Both the Ranger Raptor and Colorado ZR2 are great looking trucks. I would argue the Colorado is the better looking truck. Objectively, it is the better value. The Ranger Raptor doesn’t offer backseat HVAC vents or ventilated front seats. The Colorado offers those features for less money. The Raptor makes up for it with high speed performance, but truck’s aren’t normally purchased for speed.
In a ZR2 package it should have been an option to have the 3.0L diesel and the 10 speed transmission matching the 1500 power outputs
No one would buy a mid size diesel truck and diesels are not as popular anymore
You can do a mildly equipped crew cab LT Silverado for the same price with a 5.3. Tell me these aren’t overpriced. 🤦🏼♂️
Does the zr2 come in 1500 or 2500 engine?
More Chevys on the road today than any other truck company
Beautiful truck, but it has a 4 cylinder. It doesn’t compare to a Raptor.
A 4 cylinder that only gets 17mpg highway! I get trucks aren't going to get good fuel economy but my hemi ram still gets 18.5mpg average on a tank and in the 19's on the highway... With 3.92 gearing
It’s almost $20k less. So no it doesn’t compare.
@@951media What are you talking about? Ranger Raptor can be picked up for 55k...like 2k more than this truck
@@SgtPhrostejust try and find a RR at MSRP. The dealers a up charging on these if you can find one.

The motor is just a little to qeak. Would much rather pay the extra 8k for a much better motor and rear suspension. Leaf springs need to go for offoroad trucks.
Nice truck but not raptor level. More like loaded lariat level
Nope it is raptor level
@@Andrew-hi2rj It's really not tho. 100hp less and it SOUNDS like the 4cyl it is.
@@SgtPhroste so what you’ll win in a drag race? Very cool. Torque is the same. Also costs way less
@Andrew-hi2rj not even close to raptor level
Honda prologue is one of my personal fave upcoming vehicles. Looking frwd to seeing you getting to review some
Ze2 bisoon is probably a raptor equivlamt
That rake looks ridiculous though.
Its a great look but it needs more leg room in the back
they really need to make a 4 runner competitor based off this chassis.
And the only LED lights is the headlights and fogs.
Manual rear slider …lol
Also it a GM product
Got a buddy whos had both raptor and zr2 and though he speaks highly of the zr2 he said its definitely no raptor offroad
ZR2 looks way more "adult" than the Ranger Raptor.. $51k for a ZR2 is great, plus here in Phoenix some dealers are giving discounts.
How does a truck get 17mpg city and 17mpg highway? Thought highway would be better.
Ben what color is the exterior? Thanks.
Metallic Bronze
If touch screens had come first and then one day came buttons and switches the automotive world have gone nuts with joy.
Do they not offer cooled seats?
is this the same with zr2 bison ?
Its gonna be a pro 4x for me....this is a beautiful truck but i will be pulling a 6x10 enclosed trailer with 900 lb Atv inside !! ...i feel this its too much for a 4cyl
Too much tech to screw up in the future plus you can keep a turbo 4 banger give me a NA engine anyday
What color is this truck? Is it a Bison?
10 years from now should all these systems develop electrical faults the repairs are not going to be cheap.
I looked at the ZR2 and Ranger Raptor. 100hp difference was an easy decision.
Absolutely the zr2 for the win!. Get 100ho more a lot cheaper aftermarket if you want

Poor old Brad
I wish they'd do a 5.3 or at least turbo v6. I bet you've gotta rev the piss out of that 4 cylinder to get those peak numbers. I'll bet it's gutless in the lower rpms.
I don’t get it. They go to a 4cyl from the previous V6, only to get WORSE gas’s mileage.
Man that’s crazy to me top of the line Colorado and the back window isn’t automatic
4 cylinder?
Yup and 17 mpg 😂
You need to give pertinent details and specs. Don't just say it has 'an outlet', we need to know the #'s. Same with the back seat leg room.... how tall are you and is the front seat adjusted to your height (in other words, 'sitting behind myself at 6-1). This is just to casual it's useless and then there's not even decent footage.
ps. I don't need to you point at the vents or anything else, I know what I see.
All this truck needs is a Duramax. Come on, GM, give us back a diesel option in the Colorado!
It will never happen with the leftist lunatics in charge at the EPA. There will be NO light duty diesel engine that will meet the '27-'28 emission standards that they plan to adopt. And get ready for particulate filters (and all of their expensive problems) for gasoline engines. The whole plan is regulate ICE vehicles out of existence, and force people to spend a fortune for an EV--or either stay home or ride a bus.
Why are the mid size trucks are excluded from cooled seats. I don’t care about 90% of the fancy new crap they’re putting on trucks, except a backup cam and cooled seats
