- Dearest audience,
The violin concerto before you has been forged through personal adversity, mirroring the trials we all face in a world that can be harsh and unforgiving. At its core, this piece seeks to remind us that even amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope remains, guiding us through life's tribulations (movements 2 and 3).
In creating this work, I drew inspiration from three illustrious composers: Bach, Mendelssohn, and Paganini. Paganini's virtuosic arpeggios and scales imbue the concerto with a brilliant intensity, while the haunting strains of Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" invite introspection and reflection. The soaring tremolos inspired by Mendelssohn's concerto evoke a sense of hope and perseverance.
This concerto holds a profound place in my heart, representing both my personal journey and my enduring love for music. It is one of my most extensive compositions, a testament to my dedication in overcoming life's interruptions and challenges. Through this piece, I invite you to join me in marveling at the incredible ability of music to express the inexpressible and provide solace when words fail.
With gratitude,
Vincenzo Ortiz
