This is fantastic. For those surprised that something like this is at all possible in a bandoneon, they should keep in mind that the bandoneon was invented (in Germany, by Heinrich Band in mid-19th century) as a portable organ, so to speak, in order to play church music. That was the very idea of the instrument's existence. So playing something like this piece by Bach, originally written for the organ, is actually going back to the original purpose of the instrument.
I don't play the bandoneon, but I have read about it, and knowing what I know, that unlike a keyboard instrument where notes are linear, the keys are all randomly scattered, so a player has to be figuratively married to his or her instrument, and on top of that, that buttons have two notes depending on when the bellows are opening or closing, I must say, how absolutely amazing and awe-inspiring. Sacrifices had to be made as obviously the bandoneon has a more limited range than a pipe organ, not to mention the bandoneon player can't use all 10 fingers, but even so, I must say, it was a treat and a joy to listen to. The amount of concentration it must have taken to learn this entire piece is to be commended. It's not easy playing a piece meant for a keyboard on the random, scattered buttons of the bandoneon. Only a crazed genius could. Rock on, you crazy genius.
What a pleasure to see that someone has done his research work 👏. Yes, the diatonic bandonion is a true nightmare; so much so, that Piazzolla defined it (word for word) as: "The most diabolical invention ever made by Man, and just to WANT to play it you have to be totally mad" So my friend, you have hit the nail on the head. You have understood the real difficulty of this mad machine. You get full marks 👍👏 This is the second recording I have heard of the entire Toccata and Fugue BWV 565 on the bando. The other one was by a very young Chinese player- much less expressive. It's a phenomenal feat and a challenge that very few can take up. Claudio is extremely gifted and an excellent musician AND composer- that helps. Greetings from France

You are right, I can not have enough of it. In fact, it ruined my piano playing. Since 2019 I have been practicing this on the piano ( a lot harder as keys are heavier). I am 3/4 through it and have been stuck since 2022. My hands and arms get so achy I have to stop. I neglected all other piano peices I know and only play this for the last 2 years. @frankrault3190 Sorry mate, Piazzolla's own particular genius was his phenomenal gift for improvisation, and his own style of rubato playing- just like Chopin. However, he never, EVER, played any classical compositions, and certainly not any transcription. Exactly how much do you know about the four totally different keyboards of the AA (Alfredo Arnold) diatonic bandoneon? Very little I believe. Have you ever watched Astor play??? He spent his entire life playing ONLY on the pull stroke of his instrument- thus using only half of its potential.
Die Kunst der Fuge is a perfect example of why JSB was the greatest composer of all time. All of the incomplete work was to him...an experiment. This level of work was a test for him. His understanding of music was beyond anything I can imagine.

This is a piece I never get tired of, and the series of suspended chords melting into each other right at the end always sends chills through me - I was afraid this humble little box wouldn’t do it justice, but that was one of the best performances I’ve heard! I’m blown away by how easy you made such a difficult thing look!
To witness someone who has complete mastery of such an instrument is absolutely inspiring... and to someone such as myself who has 2 left hands and 10 thumbs, absolutely amazing! Very well done, sir! Cheers, jc
Every masterpiece is a pure algorithm, very well written. It's beautiful how those great composers were really geniuses, putting all those notes together with the intention of evoking sensations, telling a story, describing a scene, a moment; everything. Only with notes, arranged in chords, with the just right tempo, and a just right duration; syntactically correct, with impeccable semantics. Hearing it, it's so obvious how things are put together in order to work. However, when you think about how to put them together, it's so hard. We really should praise it every time we hear someone playing these masterpieces because it's not only hard to compose but to play them too, especially with such a challenging instrument.
I have always loved this song. It's so dark and deep but filled with moments of light airy and playful gestures. I have never heard it on an accordion. In fact, I didn't even know it was possible. It sounds divine.
Some videos can play in the background without the need to stop whatever else you have going on... And some... like 1 in a Million, will have you halting everything to focus 110% on the incredible amazement that is this video! A truly beautiful arrangement & Performance!!
This brought tears to my eyes cause when I was younger I learned to play this song in its entirety on piano at 16. To hear my most favorite song that speaks to my soul, thank you and bless you.
I’ll admit that I giggled through the first couple of bars but I was quickly enraptured. Brilliant performance. It never ceases to amaze me how portable Bach’s music is.
Absolutely astonishing. Fantastic, sounds wonderful. I wouldn't have thought it even possible on such an instrument. Thank you so much for playing this for the world.
This is absolutely stunning indeed! I’ve always thought that if the great Bach had known the accordion or (bandoneon) he would’ve written hundreds of pieces for it. A portable organ - that must’ve been his very dream.
Utterly speechless....... as a classical pianist dabbling in organ works now and again, I could NEVER in my wildest dreams have imagined Toccata being played on a bandoneon. I have no words.... ✨️🎶🎵👋🙂👏👏👏
Thats just amazing, the skill needed for that
😊🙏🏼
Die Kunst der Fuge is a perfect example of why JSB was the greatest composer of all time.
All of the incomplete work was to him...an experiment. This level of work was a test for him. His understanding of music was beyond anything I can imagine.
Unglaublich, dieser Klang, mit so einem Instrument! Einfach großartig und perfekt gespielt. Meine Hochachtung gilt dem Musiker! 👍👍👍
🙏🏼😊
Bach was an incomparable genius. This song is over 300 years old, yet still sounds modern (depending on the instrument). True genius is timeless.😉
And the player .?
bach one of the top if not the top composer ever.
You have given me a newfound appreciation for this instrument, I never knew it could be played so beautifully.
Wow. This is so good. Bach would be proud. It's an amazingly expressive instrument.
This is a piece I never get tired of, and the series of suspended chords melting into each other right at the end always sends chills through me - I was afraid this humble little box wouldn’t do it justice, but that was one of the best performances I’ve heard! I’m blown away by how easy you made such a difficult thing look!
Thanks so much
To witness someone who has complete mastery of such an instrument is absolutely inspiring... and to someone such as myself who has 2 left hands and 10 thumbs, absolutely amazing! Very well done, sir!
Cheers,
jc
Ich bin tief berührt in meiner Seele meisterhafter Musiker
My husband and I were transfixed by the amazing sound emanating from that instrument! Wow!!
Thank you
Some videos can play in the background without the need to stop whatever else you have going on... And some... like 1 in a Million, will have you halting everything to focus 110% on the incredible amazement that is this video! A truly beautiful arrangement & Performance!!
👏👏👏👏👏 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Mil gracias!
@@ConstantiniMusic Gracias a ti...! 🙏
✨️🎶🎵🙂
Thank you for this wonderful video to all the music lovers of the world. Respected Maestro
This rendition points up the timelessness of this brilliant piece. It could have been written today-it gives me goosebumps listening to it.
Amazing. A true maestro playing the music of another maestro! How lucky we are to get to experience this.
Wow!! I never knew one of those Squeeze Boxes could put out that quality of sound!😲 I LOVE this!🤩
This brought tears to my eyes cause when I was younger I learned to play this song in its entirety on piano at 16.
This is one of the most absolutely gorgeous renditions I've ever heard. Incredible.
Thank you!
This is absolutely stunning indeed! I’ve always thought that if the great Bach had known the accordion or (bandoneon) he would’ve written hundreds of pieces for it. A portable organ - that must’ve been his very dream.
I like to imagine the same :)
There were Portative Organs, but they had limited range so I think he would very much have liked the Squeezebox!
This is utterly sublime. Exquisite musicianship.
Excellent performance.
Utterly speechless....... as a classical pianist dabbling in organ works now and again, I could NEVER in my wildest dreams have imagined Toccata being played on a bandoneon. I have no words.... Fantastic maestro!! You have gone far beyond the acceptable limits!!! Kudos for your brilliant effort invested in crossing the boundaries!
Thank you very much!
Excellent performance. The tone of that instrument is perfect.
