    Great vid Chris, thanks for sharing! :-) Just an FYI - The reason the damper becomes more difficult to slide open/closed is because the elastomer ring becomes harder, or less elastic with age. You should really avoid using petroleum based lubricants if possible as it will degrade the elastomer over time and can cause it to swell - elastomer plastics and grease are not compatible materials. A silicone-based lube would really be your best choice.
    FYI - The easiest way to separate the cap is to rotate the plug-end 90° counter-clock-wise and remove it from the cylinder body.

    Thanks for the vid. I only watched it because I wanted to see how to take the glovebox off a TT, its exactly the same as my S3 8p, I didn't realise. Funny enough the glovebox on my S3 does the same slow opening thing too so I might try this as well👍🏾

    Many thanks Chris - worked a treat! Top cap a bit fiddly and I used mountain bike suspension grease (bit of Teflon in it as well) and worked a treat. Cheers again! Will return for other tips in future!!! Just got car at weekend - loads of wee bits to do!!

    Thanks for the video. I'm mainly watching this to look for a method to replace the old iPod connector and swap it with a Bluetooth/USB/AUX module that will sit in its place.

    Great video again buddy. Need to do this on mine, i stopped opening the glove box altogether on my RS because of how slow it opens. I was unfortunate on my last TT 3.2 and didn’t do it in time and the hinges broke

      @@CarChris82 Definitely mate. I heard and seen people mention about replacing the damper but your fix looks good if not better. And of course its saves £40 on the new damper. Going to do mine once iv nipped and got some all purpose

    stumbled across this yesterday and today decided I would check my glovebox door speed.. closed to open in 30Seconds...lol makes me wonder what the speed should really be like. ? if I bought a new piston, would it have any sort of grease..would it be slow..also..wonder if you could simply pop the side panel off the dash and get to the piston through the opening? might try that..first .. but good video.thanks

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can access it through the side panel 👍🏻

      Because it doesn't need disconnecting to remove the glove box 👍🏻

    Good job Chris, I have to take out my glove box to change the pollen filter, I believe the heater fan is there too so will take a look as the heater fan has developed an annoying squeak, have you had that problem?

      Get it sorted mate or the hinges will snap off and you will need a new glovebox

    If you'd have taken the side panel off you wouldn't have needed to remove the glovebox!

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know mate but it was better for the video to show the glovebox strut with it removed

    • @andybuckland3976
      @andybuckland3976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarChris82 Sure, if it's just greasing you don't have to remove as glovebox open you can grease it. Mine had already broken the hinge so had to repair that.

      @ Andy Buckland - That's true, but only for the Coupe. For the Roadster, the Antenna Amp blocks access, so the glove box has to come out.
