Audi TT Mk2 8J wind whistle sound, wind noise problems and the best DIY guide for this common issue

  • I see so many posts about this issue pop up frequently and have tried all of the "quick fixes" (well minus the stuffing foam and tape everywhere solution as i find that a little bit gross!) without any success.
I've had this issue for almost 6 months now (since the door panel swap basically) and have been meaning to fix it but also wanted to record as best as possible the process.
The window is only shifted a few millimetres, if it's even that much, but the clearances are so tight that that's all it needs to finally rid your car of the dreaded and annoying wind whistle noises.
I noticed the noise was worse with A/C or heater on, the higher the blower the more this would happen.
No special tools required, just regular VAG related kit - torx bits and socket sets.
Good luck and let me know how you get on. Hope it helps!

Best fix on you tube.. i will add that i used tape on front quarter and back shut line and marked where i wanted the window to be. ie 5 to 10mm up, not where it was, then i found it easier to loosen the 2 screws where u said then pull window up a bit a a time with door open. same principle different order.. worked really well. no more wind noise. thanks mate👍

You need two people. The manual tells you to shut the door and loosen the two window clamp bolts. The person on the outside uses two suction cups to push the window into position. You then tighten the bolts. You can fine tune using a hex key in the sliders (pull towards you to go up and push away to go down). The window tilt can be adjusted at the bottom by slackening the two bolts and using a torx socket to adjust in and out.

There is a adjustment that you turn clockwise & counter clockwise to raise and lower the glass using an allen key located near the cable lock tab. It looks like a long socket facing down.

    Hello Ian.
I have somewhat the same issue with my driver side window.
Actually when washing the car I can see water going in through the rubber seal.
My gap is somewhat more in the middle.
I notice that you did not went with the adjuster hole in the bottom of the door, I already took a look and didn't manage to find any place to put a 5mm allen key.
After you disassemble did you find the famous adjuster?
I'm thinkin in doing the same thing you did there.

    • @ianpgonzaga
      @ianpgonzaga  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I could never find this adjusting point.

@@ianpgonzaga Ok, think I found out the problem of no finding the adjuster screws.
Guess my drivers door regulator probably ain't the original one. I took a look at my passenger side and when the window its fully down with a flash light you can clearly see the 5mm Allen head screw for the adjustment.
So guess I'll have to go with the "hard" way of removing the card door papel.
