Because you can! Thanks for taking us along and being such a wonderful role model and storyteller! Please don't keep us waiting too long for the next journey. And very happy birthday to you Rev!!❣
Love this. My goal is to backpack until I can't. One of the greatest feelings is the pain of massaging sore leg muscles after a hike. A good pain that makes me feel alive. It sure beats sitting on the couch developing chronic pain.
You're an inspiration Rev. Thanks again for sharing this journey with us. Glad you liked Mulberry Gap. They do such a great job. That area has some of the best mountain biking trails in Georgia.
One word, inspirational. Backpacked, mountain biked, and white water kayaked a lot in my younger days. I turn 62 this year. Time to get busy living again.
Rev, Thanks for getting in touch when you were in Dalton. I really enjoyed meeting you and our time together. Busy living, your doing good at that and are an inspiration. BTW, my wife said it’s a good thing you filmed calling me a “Trail Angel” because no one has ever call me any kind of Angel before and she wouldn’t have believed it!😜😂
Ha Ha! 😂 You are definitely a Trail Angel in my book. I’m so glad I got to know you, Jim, though briefly. I heard someone say, “It not the 18 inch wide ribbon of dirt that stretches from Flagg Mountain to the Northern Terminus that’s important, but it’s the people you meet along the way.” I’m glad I met you. 😁
I live about 20 miles north of the northern terminus. Had cancer surgery last year. Good news is that they got all the cancer...bad news is I can not hike and more so I have enjoyed watching your hike. Also Happy B Day. I will turn 70 in a couple of weeks
Happy early birthday, Greg. 🎂🎉. I realize that one day I won’t be able to do what I’m doing now. So I’m going to do it while I can. When I can’t, I won’t. 😁
Thanks Rev and congratulations on completing the Pinhoti Trail. I’m 82 y.o. and Iike you I choose to ‘start working at living’. I’m not a thru hiker but I am a section hiker doing the AT in PA. Thanks again for the great video and your insights. Hike on! 🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️🇺🇸👊🏻
Great job, Rev! I watched a lot of hiking videos a few years ago. I always thought, wow I wish I could do that but I'm too old (55). Then I found your PCT videos and you showed me I could, and I've been doing it ever since. I have some huge plans this year and I thank you for inspiring me to get off my butt and go for it. I absolutely love hiking and backpacking now, it is all I want to do. 😊
congratulations on finishing your hike of the Pinhoti. It is a great accomplishment. I, too will be turning 70 this year and I feel like you. I am going to try to keep doing hikes as long the Good Lord let's me.
Happy Birthday!!! Thanks for bring us along on your thru hike of the Pinhoti trail. "Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity."
Whoo-hoo! Congratulations you made it! Absolutely right, get busy living or get busy dying...one of my favorite qoutes. Enjoy the moment and reflection of the trail at the terminus. "I SEE YOU" in the joy of your soul. Godspeed!
Congrats, Rev., on completing your Pinhoti Trail thru hike. Sure was a beautiful trail, and as I've said before, I appreciate you taking me along with you. Also want to wish you a happy 70th birthday. I turned 74 on my birthday this year. You take care of yourself and stay safe. I wish God's bountiful blessings for you and your family.
For many reasons, Pinhoti has become my favorite trail vlog. Thank you Rev. I have added it to my bucket list. Congrats on your 3 score and 10 on Gods beautiful planet.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for filming this and especially for the section about getting busy living. I'm 43 and just now starting to get down to it.
Happy 70th birthday. Thank you for showing us what ‘getting busy living’ looks like. As I followed your 30 day journey through the Pinhoti Trail I think of my own 30 day journey on the PCT as I, too, get busy living my life. Thank you for your wisdom and trail advice.
Gonna miss you My friend. Happy 70th birthday same as myself. You are right about doing things because you can and because you want to. my wife and I,both in our seventies, have just finished clearing land and built a cabin ourselves because we wanted to and we could . Enjoyed the journey with you . Good hiking and God Bless. See you on the next adventure.
Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” Great verse J! 😁
Awwwh Rev… another wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing it. It was fun to tag along. Happy 70th Birthday❤️ You make it look easy. You inspire! Until the next time. God bless you and keep you healthy and happy.
Very nice Rev! Thank you for sharing the journey. It was wonderful! Loved meeting all the great trail angels along the way. Beautiful scenery! I was about to ask if this trail was easier than the other long trails and then you mentioned how you had been climbing for a couple of hours! Going to miss the adventure now that you are finished! Keep up the good work! And God bless you!
Congratulations on your completion of the Pinhoti! Well done. Thank you for taking us along yet another amazing journey. I have really enjoyed the ride. I see that we share many of the same philosophy’s of life. You learn a thing or two as you grow older. I am 67 now. I can relate to trying to get a ride. Thousands of dollars in backpack gear, clean shaven, 67 years old and people still think you are a serial killer. Cereal killer yes. Serial killer no. 😂. Thank you for being an inspiration to the rest of us. Happy Birthday to you and God bless you Rev.
Great job ! Loved following you, but much more love your advice! Having just lost my older brother suddenly, 14 months into his retirement….(and my mom, and a niece all in 12 weeks) “ get busy living, or get busy dying” holds much more truth than I ever imagined. I’m the king of “ next week, next month, next year…someday”…. Emotional as I type this, but in their memories, I start today GETTING BUSY LIVING ! Thank you so much Rick
Bless your heart Rick. You owe it to them and their memories to “get busy living.” Just like hiking…put one foot in front of the other until you reach the Terminus. 😁
Thank you Rev. Yes, I am one of those who “hikes” vicariously with your hikes. Hopefully that will change soon. I love the great scenery and your commentary/philosophy. I love the friends and trail angels you make on the way. I hope you provide us with a little clip of your birthday but any way HAPPY BIRTHDAY REV. Many more miles on your hikes. This was one of your best.
So good to see you trekking!! You have been my inspiration as I've taken up trekking too. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe and strong on the trail 🙏🏽
Hello Rev Thanks for sharing your Pinotti trail through hike. I hope to follow in your footsteps at some point soon. Best wishes to you and your future. Thanks.
Congratulations, Rev on teaching the terminus of the Pinhoti! I have enjoyed this lovely trail each step of the way. Best wishes on your 70th birthday; I'm 5 years behind you! Thank you for sharing your faith; so important these days. May God bless you richly in whatever He has in store for you. Have you ever done the AT? The smoke from Canada has dissipated somewhat, so I was back out on the trails again today. Keep the faith!
Thank you Ruth. It’s hard to believe that I’ve taken a trip around the sun 70 times.😂 I have not done the Appalachian trail. Though it is on my bucket list.
Yes great trail angels. Another road walk! Great humor too! I like your editing. This section of the trail has been my favorite on the Pinhoti. Sorry about the steep climbs. This section of the trail after the rainstorm is throwing everything at you. The butterflies are so beautiful. Good morning, the journey is coming to a close on this trail. Thank you Rev. I hike on occasions with my daughter. I did 20 miles on the PCT with her in 2019. She didn't complete the PCT that year but she did in 2021. I am now 73 and I still try to hike on some trails with her.(When she lets me lol) I like you advice too. Either get busy living or get busy dying. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I will look forward to your next hiking adventure. Hike on Rev. See you down the trail. Blessings and safe hiking.
Dear Rev: Thank you for sharing your epic journey. Your incredible work ethic and thoughtfulness for "we the vicarious" are evident throughout your posts.
Thanks for bringing us along Rev. I currently live in your old home town of Mobile and an just 6 months behind you on turning 70. I ,like you, have been blessed with good health to this point so I continue also to hike and kayak as much as possible while I still can. Thanks again for sharing your journey!
Fantastic! In 2019 I had the pleasure of meeting “Legend” an 81 year old at Rainy Pass. He was finishing up his third through hike of the PCT with his son. I loved following along with you on this journey! Keep staying busy living! Till next time, stay healthy!
Rev, thank you for sharing your journey. I hope to do the Pinhoti Trail sometime, and I have made a note to rewatch these videos when that day comes. Moreso, thank you for the inspiration you give. I'm 62 and learn from every video you have posted. I really appreciate the videos on tips for older hikers and how to stay motivated. Your comment about "This is the day the Lord has made" has helped me get past some rough days on trail. I'll be getting back on the PCT at Donner Pass in a little over a week, and I hope to run into Marmalade. One question - what are your thoughts on the "Buddy Beep Beep" dog thing? I'll do the River to River in Illinois before the Pinhoti, and I know there are a lot of dogs there. Thanks again, and I agree, get busy livin' or get busy dyin'.
Oh please watch my 70th birthday hike coming up in July. I loved your talk at the end. You are so blessed to be able to do this especially after what you've been through the past couple of years. God has blessed. Hike on my brother. Loved it❤
Wow! Despite the challenges, the last part of the trail was absolutely beautiful! It was an honor and a privilege to follow you on this hike. Congratulations on completing the Pinhoti Trail 🎉. Hope you had a very happy birthday. 🎈🎊🎂🎉🎁
thank you for sharing your wonderful (and full of wonders) trip with us. I hope you get to see and follow the trail until you feel satisfied by a full life.
Rev, sorry I just found this. I certainly agree with your philosophy of doing and not setting. I will be 69 in a couple of months. I became serious about hiking late in life, but all of my hobbies have been active and outside. I still hike at a fairly quick pace, but I have begun to realize how short life really is and that it is nice to stop and enjoy the view sometimes. We are both the ages where there is no guarantee that we will be able to come back and see the sights again. For a poor kid from Kentucky, I think that life has been good to me. Always enjoy your "real person" videos.
Thank you for sharing your pilgrimage. I really enjoyed following along. I need to invest in one of those dog beepers. There’s several trails I could have used it on. Keep on moving!
Rev, I love and am inspired by your videos. But I'd also like you to know that my two-year-old daughter is inspired too and loves to watch them with me. She exclaims "here comes Hiking Man!" when you appear and is fascinated by your tent and hiking sticks. Thanks for leading the new generation as well as the old!
Congrats 🎊 on your completion of the Pinhoti trail 👏👏 I’m so glad you “document “ your hike creating videos even tho it’s time consuming and more work for you. Maybe you’ll have a Q&A later but was wondering what did you like the most about this trail? The least? The Trail Angels were mostly for rides into town (as opposed to providing water or food on the trail)? I noticed no “bubble” of hiking with other hikers (like the PCT)…most of the time you hiked alone? You are amazing! Happy 70th! (I’ll be there in 6 months). You are living life the healthiest way possible. I’d rather die hiking (being out in nature) than sitting at home. I’m glad you had a safe thru hike with no mishaps or injuries. Strange there weren’t footbridges across those streams. The blow downs looked awful- must have been recent as they probably maintain the trail pretty well. Can’t wait to see what your next adventure will be!
Your video is a great one because you are leaving a legacy of you life in that video. I am all about recording my life and the lives of those I care about. People don't take the time to record their life so others will remember them when they are gone. Photos are good but video is great. Our love ones will want to hear our voices and our thoughts about our journeys in life. They will be glad we recorded ourselves and others. I tell my family and friends I am the historian of the family that that is why I have a camera in my hands all the time. Someones have to capture the moments and I am that guy. Keep shooting those videos Rev. Your family and friends will be glad you did.
Thank you David. I’m so glad you were able to come along with me. What’s next? I’m trying to work something out that’s monumental. I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to pull it off this year. 😁
Wow! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us! I will be turning 65 this fall and absolutely love to hike. I however have not embraced the challenges and rewards of doing a lengthy thru hike but have taken every chance I can to hit the trails and enjoy what nature has to offer. I take my hat off to you for having the drive and determination to complete these absolutely amazing treks (Pinhoti and PCT). I look forward to checking out more of your videos. Also, love the reference to Shawshank Redemption. This movie is also one of my all time favourites (as I must have seen it at least a dozen times already). Safe and happy trails in your days ahead, and Happy (belated) 70th Birthday!!
Thanks. You’re very kind. The most important thing is to just get out in nature and walk. A couple of hours, a couple of days or a couple of months…it’s all good!😁
I enjoyed your adventure very such. Probably the best videos of the Pinhoti that I’ve seen
Wow…thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Thank you for sharing your adventures, wisdom, and Christian faith. Wise words, get busy living.
You’re welcome Charles. 😁
Rev, thank you again for taking me along. I am 74 and you have inspired me to continue walking and running. God bless.
Thanks Nestor. I’m glad that you were able to come along with me.😁

Thank you George. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. And I’m also glad that you were able to come along with me.😁

Happy Birthday Rev! Absolutely enjoyed following you on all your videos on the Pinhoti Trail. Thank you for taking us with you! See ya on the trail!

Ain’t that the truth Rod. Someone described it as type two fun…Not fun while you’re doing it but fun when you’re reminiscing.😁
Congratulations, Rev! Keep on keepin on! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome Michael. I’m going to try.😁
Awesome hike Rev! Like you, I feel compelled to share the beauty of nature with those who cannot hike. Keep on hiking!
Thanks. I realize that one day I will not be able to do what I’m doing now.😁
You're an inspiration Rev. Thanks again for sharing this journey with us. Glad you liked Mulberry Gap. They do such a great job. That area has some of the best mountain biking trails in Georgia.

Fantastic! In 2019 I had the pleasure of meeting “Legend” an 81 year old at Rainy Pass. He was finishing up his third through hike of the PCT with his son. I loved following along with you on this journey! Keep staying busy living! Till next time, stay healthy!
Thanks Larry. 😁
You’re welcome. I hope you get to do the Pinhoti one day. It’s a great trail. Good luck on your PCT Hike. 😁
Oh please watch my 70th birthday hike coming up in July. I loved your talk at the end. You are so blessed to be able to do this especially after what you've been through the past couple of years. God has blessed. Hike on my brother. Loved it❤
Thanks Beeka. Where will you be posting your hike? I’ll be sure and watch it. 😁
Wow! Despite the challenges, the last part of the trail was absolutely beautiful! It was an honor and a privilege to follow you on this hike. Congratulations on completing the Pinhoti Trail 🎉. Hope you had a very happy birthday. 🎈🎊🎂🎉🎁
Another great video. I enjoyed following you on your journey.
Thanks Roger.😁
Love you Rev! Its time to start living!
“Get busy living…”. 😁
thank you for sharing your wonderful (and full of wonders) trip with us. I hope you get to see and follow the trail until you feel satisfied by a full life.
Thank you Arthur. 😁
Thank you very much for sharing your hike, you are an awesome inspiration. God bless you Rev.
Thanks Bob. 😁
Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.😁
Thank you for sharing your pilgrimage. I really enjoyed following along.
I need to invest in one of those dog beepers. There’s several trails I could have used it on.
Keep on moving!

@@TheHikingRev Thank you!
Thanks much Rev!
Thank you Larry.😁
enjoyed watching, Rev...greetings from Belgium, Europe 🙂
Thanks Nancy. I’d love to visit Belgium one day. 😁
@@TheHikingRev well...let me know when that happens :-)
So fun to watch you accomplish this through hike!! And Happy Early Birthday!!!
Thank you. I’m so glad you were able to come along with me.😁
Rev, I love and am inspired by your videos. But I'd also like you to know that my two-year-old daughter is inspired too and loves to watch them with me. She exclaims "here comes Hiking Man!" when you appear and is fascinated by your tent and hiking sticks. Thanks for leading the new generation as well as the old!
My youngest grandchild puts his “backpack” on and his “trekking poles” when he watches my videos. Wants to go backpacking with grandpa. 😁
Hey Rebecca. I’m going to do a video on “My Thoughts/Reactions to the Pinhoti Trail” soon. 😁
@@TheHikingRev oh good! Can’t wait to watch!
Thank you Roger. You are so right.😁
We love trekking with you mate. Do drop by when you do your intercontinental hike. Australia is with you all the way. Stay safe. Stay strong.
Thanks. I’m glad you were able to come along with me. 😁
Congrats! God bless you with many more miles 👍
Thank you Heather.😁
Congratulaons on your upcoming 70th birthday. And many thanks for you lovely videos and words of wisdom.
Thank you Christine.😁
Wow, Rev. Thank you.
You’re welcome Peter. Glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Congratulations! Well Done! Thanks for the great videos and encouragement. What's next?
A couple of hours, a couple of days or a couple of months…it’s all good!😁
Thank you Pastor...
You’re welcome Doug.😁
Thanks Rev.
You’re welcome. 😁
