@mardon111 His name was John Townes Van Zandt, people that knew him called him John or John Townes (what his mom called him). I never addressed him as anything, I was too awestruck, but we did share a table at a bar in Austin once with about 6 other people including Guy and Susanna Clark
Nice version but why the hell did they have to change the second verse? Why changing the meaning of the whole sentence? This is joking with Townes' poetry. Shame that is not enough, definitely!
House Above The Sun . Thanks! This is exactly what I was talking about. Changing one word is completely altering the meaning of what Townes wrote. Unfortunately Sir Reginaldo Andrade cannot get it, but we can live with that...
This song was written by Townes VanZandt. Listen to the original, and you'll understand that the Junkies murdered it! However, you likely won't understand WHY they murdered it! Townes deserves better!

Hi - I just spotted this and the disagreements from others. I like the Junkies well enough, but I'm right with you here - 'exaggerated tribute' is exactly the point. There was really nowhere to go from Townes's 2m15s of perfection on the original.
@@davidmorgan3947 Exactly. The fact that the original is so short and sparsely arranged is why it's genius. His son JT did a very good rendition of it at TvZ tribute concert- VERY similar to the original but less twangy. THAT is a good cover. Changing TvZ words is criminal. The only cover of a TvZ song that I've found is Cat Clyde's cover of "Nothin'". th-cam.com/video/setIQguNrTI/w-d-xo.html
"You're the only one I want now , I never heard your name.
Let's hope we meet some day. If we don't it's all the same"
Best lyric ever.
After 25+ years of listening to the Junkies, Margo's voice still gives me goosebumps. Such a beautiful cover.
Love Townes, love this version of his song. I have all of Townes Van Zandt's albums, I'll be buying Cowboy Junkies.

BEAUTIFULL VERSION
This is magnificent Thank you... beautiful images
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO, BEAUTIFUL MUSIC, FINE WOMEN. And IT IS LOGICAL THAT MARGO COULD NOT OMIT, BEYOND THE FINE PAISSAGENS AND SWEET LONELINESS JUNKIANA.
BELO VÍDEO, BELAS MULHERES, É LÓGICO QUE mARGO NÃO PODIA FALTAR, NEM AS BELAS PAISSAGENS E A DOCE SOLIDÃO JUNKIANA.
@mardon111 I totallay disagree....This version has alot of soul to it!! Good Job Cowboy Junkies!!!!
one of my favorite covers by the junkies fanfuckingtastic
I agree, the junkies are talented, but townes cuts straight to the soul

Margo singing Townes.

bullshit, has not changed anything, invents another story
Yeah. Also don't why do they sing 'they never come to leave' in the first verse. Should be 'they only come to leave'
