I kept facing shutdown issues while playing games, finally took the courage to try this deep clean. There was a layer of dirt on my heatsink and it took me 2 1/2 hrs to clean it thoroughly. Hoping this fixes the issue, your video was so easy to follow yet so detailed at the same time. Wether my issue is resolved or not you get my subscribe for the sheer fact that you made it easy to execute this clean up. Thank you so so much for this.
Edit: It worked like a charm, used it non stop for 4-5 hrs without an incident. Thank you so much for this, i was really struggling off late.

do you keep it on the floor ? there is 3 ps5s in my house and after 2 years I took one apart and it was clean . you either have yours on the floor or in a very dirty area just clean around the ps5 and you shouldn't have any issues . atleast your not overheating now but just keep the area clean and you should be fine .

I came across your video and a week ago and finally decided to clean it myself instead of sending it in. I have to say the video is well explained and there’s not much chance of risk as long as u dont handle the components roughly. It took me a total of around 50minutes to take it apart and put it back together. This does a much better job than compressed air or vaccum.

Easily followed and completed, no issues after about a month. I did the fan cleaning initially and it was ok for about a week and then started shutting off randomly even with non hardware intensive games. Fully disassembled and cleaned took about 1 1/2 hours with following the guide step by step.

Aside from my son's controller I just fixed because of you ( commented on the appropriate video) , yesterday I was able to clean and restore my ps5 because of this tutorial !
Since it was still warranty I didn't remove the warranty tag but I went inside from the ventilation hole with my hand and a little vacuum cleaner + baby wipes and brush, took me 1 hour to get the dust that had accumulated but in the end, after restarting, I got no freezing of the screen (happened 4 times in 2 hours, everytime only after 10 min of gameplay) and my kids play on it since this morning with no incident whatsoever, its even more silent that it was before.

Did u have to use all the tools he used

    • @chipsawdust5816
      @chipsawdust5816 ปีที่แล้ว

@@erwinwayne3129 For sure you're going to need the T8 Torx and a #1 (small) Phillips screwdriver. For the prying tools, don't use anything metal. You could use a small piece of hardwood (don't use wood that might break off) or other hard plastic piece you can make at home. The magnetic thing, meh, I'd use some blue painter's tape and write on it where they came out of, or draw a diagram on a piece of paper. The tweezers are handy but don't have to be anything special; the ones he used do make it a bit easier but you're in no hurry if you're DIYing it. Just take care as the ribbons are delicate. The brush can be any small, natural rustle brush (not a plastic bristle or nylon - which is also plastic). I would also get a can of dry compressed air to make the job a lot easier and faster getting dust out of places the brush can't go.
So yeah, there are easier ways but the T8 and the small Phillips are two things you can't do this job without.
Also note about how tight the screws are when taking them out. There's nothing in here that needs to be "muscled" back together. Snug is fine.

@@erwinwayne3129 man the furthest I went was taking the fan out and cleaning it. Even then I didn't completely disconnect the fan , I cleaned a bit of the heatsink too but not all of it obviously. I had mine for over an year now and it keeps overheating on me when I play graphically demanding games like horizon forbidden west. I can play a maximum of 1 hour on that game before the warning pops up. It doesn't shut down or anything it just gives the heating warning after like an hour of playing and ever since I cleaned the fan it has been a bit better but again last night it happened. I wanna deep clean it but I have 0 experience with electronics. And the fact that I once tried to fix a ps4 controller by taking it apart , ended up completely breaking it does not help at all 😭. I can't give it to a repair shop to clean it cuz I'm from the Maldives and we don't have any advanced repair shops and stuff

Man I can’t believe I did it! I followed your tutorial step by step and was able to clean my 2 year old PS5. I successfully cleaned it. You saved me time and money because I only spent ¥1000 around $7 USD. Also you saved me the headache of having to search for a repair place or sent it to Sony after warranty which would have cost I don’t know how much. I was also considering buying a new PS5. But for around $7 I bought a cleaning kit which included the required screw driver, brush and plastic pryers.
My PS5 kept crashing as I just bought Stellar Blade on launch. I couldn’t play the game because my PS5 kept shutting off no matter what position or no white panels.
Now after clearing it I’m sure there will be no problems!
I really appreciate the video! I encourage anyone who is having a sudden shutting off problem to deep clean the PS5. All the dust is located on the radiator and power supply! You can’t just do a vacuum clean!
I wanted to add that I knocked it out in 1 hour and a half! My system is also quieter!

Ribbon cables were OK... make sure the ones with lock on make a 'click' when they go in & non lock go in up to black lines. The worst part imo was the little push fit clips on the ends of the wires ... you need to be very careful with positioning them & make they push down properly ... you'll know when they 👍

    On the "warranty seal"
"Most consumers don’t know that these stickers are actually illegal-and that’s because manufacturers don’t want you to. Under the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the Feds mandated that you can open your electronics without voiding the warranty, regardless of what the language of your warranty says. That makes all of that inconsistent (albeit crafty) language used by the 50 manufacturers surveyed by the U.S. PIRG illegal." - from iFixit

@imkushpakmann8931 Because of how much dust it accumulates in the radiator through the vents. When there's more than enough it automatically shuts off the ps5. The amount of years its been out has no relevance if the whole issue is that it's a dust magnet

Great video I’ve had a PS5 that couldn’t play PS5 games (random shut down) for a very long time. Oddly enough it would play ps4 games and stream apps all day long with no issue. In the past I’ve always just cleaned up to the point where I took out the fan hoping it might make it work correctly. Even sent it to Sony twice with no real fix. Honestly this issue didn’t resolve until I got to the power supply which was caked with dust and causing the system to overheat. It might be scary but follow this video ALL the way and hopefully you’ll get your PS5 back and not some glorified PS4.

I'm having the same issue. I don't have the proper tools to correctly disassemble the console. I'm going to try using a knife. I might break something but I'd rather do that than to have the console turn off every 15 minutes.

    • @dr9th
      @dr9th ปีที่แล้ว

You should be able to pick up the T8 at a Walmart they are rather easy to find. I would be careful not to damaged those special T8 screws which I think would happen using a knife. I hear you though. I was so frustrated I felt like I had nothing to lose at that point. I’m so glad it works now. Rather than being vertical I’m now placing the system horizontal and vacuuming it each day. Hopefully that will make a difference and I won’t have to go through the effort of disassembly again.

They should design the PS5, in such a way that every cooling inlet should have an external serviceable filter, that can replaced or cleaned, without opening up the console. The filters would keep most dust, fibers and hair from entering the console. Also the PS5 would alert you, when a certain temperature is reached that the filters need servicing.

@@trilexfix Eh i have filters on all sides of my PC case and it's a top of the line PC with an RTX 4090 which generate alot of heat. No issue with cooling what-so-ever. So i think a PS5 should be able to add some filters or design it in such a way that it would be possible.

Everytime I take apart a console I end up putting back together with a lot less screws than it originally had but hey as long as it works lol

It's like they grow legs and run away, I could sellotape them into a dvd case and lock them in a safe and they'll be hiding in the next room

Did this today becauseeven thi i cleaned the fan it wasnt enough, first time opening the ps5 up like this but it went well and I also seen a big clump of dust that was sitting on top of the motherboard on those copper vents and just to be sure I opened it up further like the video showed and it's working great so far, I'll update yall soon

can confirm does work and is thorough! My front plate with the USB jacks fell off and I had to learn how to reattach it on the fly. You can attach it to the back side of the black shell case. Thanks for your video. My PS5 no longer sounds like an air jet

And if you end up with some extra parts when your done putting it back together make sure you give yourself a pat on the back you just found a more efficient way to build it than the manufacturer.... Lol

Great video , was pretty shocking how much dust was in there after only 4 months

Yeah I think my ps5 gets some static electricity charge on its surface and ends up attracting a lot of fine dust every day.

I just cleaned mine first time since from launch day, and it had barely any dust, but it’s because it’s high up, that ps5 probably sits on the floor/carpet.

This is what happens when people keep their consoles on all the time. My launch PS3 didn't even have that much dust in it when I opened it up to change the battery after the, "CMOS scare."

Ok people are thick headed here. 1st mine is well ventilated on tv console air filter near by in room. Don’t matter how you cut it dust always finds a way. I do what I can to ensure my gaming devices last but unfortunately housing/location plays a huge part here.

@@bradleyreesecorcoran If you dust and vacuum weekly while not keeping the console on 24/7, it’s never going to be like that. As I said, I opened my launch PS3 for the first time during the CMOS scare and it wasn’t even as bad as that.

Hey everyone so I definitely had this problem since probablyyyy… September of 2021 I had my ps5 day 1 so yeah first Bach first trash lol but if anyone is having a problem with their ps5 overheating or just shutting off from playing a ps5 game (not ps4 games) then it’s most likely that your ps5 liquid metal is fucked. Don’t worry you can fix it well not you but if you take it to a really good repair shop they can help. Please make sure the store has great reviews and if you Bought it from Best Buy you can actually take it to geek squad and they’ll fix it for you I paid $60 to replace the liquid metal and my ps5 doesn’t feel as hot as it was before. I hope this helps to who ever is stressing cause I’ve been stressing for months and I’m now getting it fixed you know. Clean your fan still but dismantling it if you’re not a professional I suggest you take it somewhere that actually knows what they’re doing. I wish you all the best ❤️

All the vents on SX and PS5 ensure that disassembly is likely never required to remove dust bunnies. One can snake the plastic straw from a can of compressed air into every corner of the heat sinks, psu etc.
