An alarm set for 9 pm to remind me to get off of the computer is also the alarm to clean up surface messes on the table, the desk, and the countertop. Then I will sweep the kitchen floor and mop it if need be. Then off to get my bedtime routine. It has improved my messiness.

    1. Put it on a calendar. Have pen ready to use. This helps manage time. 2. Black bags. Put clutter in them.
    3. Boxes 📦 for organization and storage. Thank you 👍🏻

The more we have the more work we make for ourselves. So two coffee cups, two plates etc... if you have 10 coffee cups you may not wash dishes until you have no clean cups left. When you buy new stuff you have to switch out with the old. Only keep what you love!!! Thank you Stuart your my favorite ADHD teacher, I like your calmness. I'm your 62 year old just realizing I have some of adhd. God Bless you!!!

I think it because of "did it bring joy thing", you get in loop of thinking and go through all things time after time.

    • @lindawade9647
      @lindawade9647 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ecclairmayo4153 I think it was because Marie Condo says to thank the items we get rid of, and this makes ones think the possessions are almost human, and the person couldn't get rid of the possessions after.

    • @lindawade9647
      @lindawade9647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ecclairmayo4153 The problem with the "joy" reason is most things bring joy to me, and I can't keep everything that brings joy, or I would have no place to live. Also, a toilet brush and toilet bowl cleaner don't bring joy to me, but I am keeping them, because I want to clean my toilet. A lot of things don't bring joy, but I need them in my life. It is great that she helps many people. The obsessive way of folding clothes and socks would cause people with OCD to get worse, or not do anything at all, because of the stress of having to do this in such a rigid, mandatory manner would make me not want to put my clothes away at all. It is almost like OCD in itself. I have no problem with putting away my clothes neatly after washing them, but if I had to fold them the way she says to, I would never put them away and would have more problems with a messy house and not being able to find what I want to wear.

It’s a lot. TY for all the tips! 👊🏻😌
I bought a hanging trash can with a trash bag compartment from Amazon for like $13. It worked and it got me to stop throwing things in the sink which in turned clogged the drain. My husband promised to be the one to throw it and place another clean bag in. The support helps me immensely!
I also give everything a home.
The miscellaneous things have one home and it stays where it stays together until one day I find each item a home. If it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna go anywhere it goes in the trash.
If I’m having trouble trashing, I ask myself these 3 questions:
    Will you use it today?
Will you use it this week?
Will you use it this month?
We can’t hide from the truth. We know us. Trash it. Keep it. According to your reaction, of course. I promise you won’t miss it.
I also started keeping a file tray that stands and a big hyper tough box to place on top of my desk at the bottom where my feet meet.
Whatever I use that day gets thrown in that one box while the standing box gets all my paper pile.
I stuff it till I can’t take it anymore and the fact that it will make me feel better to put it up even if it’s been 3wks - and there’s a lot packed in there… I know it will be worth it. It produces a clear mind and that in itself becomes the reward. It also keeps my desk cleared.
I sat down to think about my resisters and from there incorporated ways to make it easier by implementing some affordable items. The top is just one example.
Another example is that I bought a $3 basket from Walmart and placed it in the exact corner that I knew myself to throw all my semi filthy socks towards. I also roll my pjs up and put them under my pillow.
When I have no extra cash, for example I washed & dried veggie cans to pile pens and stationary in. Tuna cans for pins, needles, stickers, you name it.
I also looked into supplements and for me what really helped:
    Igennus: Nerobalance
    Nutracost: Nitric oxide
    Now: Resveratol
    Nutracost: Yohimbine hcl
-this dosage is too strong for me so I had to invest in veggie capsules to do my own measuring.
-I slightly sweat with this supplement, but I feel it lightens my mood up as a pose to taking adderall on its own. I feel very bland without it. I don’t feel compulsive and I feel just overall generally happy. 😆
-please don’t take more than recommended.
I had some pretty nasty side effects taking two bc the mg was so low. I thought “what the heck.” Literally, I could have ran outside ripped the tree out of the ground, ran a mile with it, chased a bear and met chuck norris at the top of a mountain all while yodeling “YO-HIM-BINE.” In reality I was on the shower floor, giggly, and being extra flirty with my husband. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭 he could have told me my breath stunk and I would have just awed him with love… pls, 👏🏻 don’t make the same mistake.
    Now: Maca
Energy green: Aguaja (to encourage me to eat)
GU Roctane Ultra Endurance: Electrolyte Capsules (to encourage me to stay hydrated)
-Alkaline water or propel flavor packet’s encourage me to drink more water.
Gut health (I struggle with IBS/GERD)
    -Probiotic Acidophilus by Puritans Pride
-Gas and Bloating Prevention by Equate
    -Slippery Elm by Now
-Kayam by Ayurvedic (don’t take if pregnant)
    -Stool Softner by equate
I do not take these meds in one sitting. I set alarms and stretch them throughout the day or take them when needed. If I push one off, I forgive myself and move on.
Also I found that taking daily gummy vitamins helps me feel better regardless of potency and helps with maintaining intake. I found a really neat pill bottle with a 6 compartment chamber on Amazon for less than $10, so I’m not overwhelmed by the amount of med/supp I’m consuming.
Time is a real struggle for me. I bought a watch from the kid section on Amazon and 2 Visual timers to help me manage executive function. I didn’t realize how time blind I am until I realized 10mins isn’t actually as long as I thought.
For $2 you can get a 3pk of mini composition journals and I keep it tucked in my back pocket at all times bc I need to brain dump a lot. I don’t worry about neatness either. A pack of bic colorful pens helps a lot. I just throw it in my bag.
Disclaimer: I’m no doctor. I just found what works for me. I encourage you to look into these supplements if you are considering, speak with your doctor as well, and find out if there’s any adverse reactions that might mess with medication or supplements you are currently taking. -momof7 ✌🏻💕

He did not say do exactly what Marie Kondo does--cause Lord knows that is an unrealistic expectation for some people with ADHD.

Hello lovely, another great video. I’ve been implementing the Marie Kondo method for a year now and found it super helpful. Before, I would only use clothes on the top of pile that I could see and forget I’d even owned the items beneath as it was out of sight (is this a symptom?) . Something you could try is Habit Stacking. Essentially choose a new habit you want to form and add it on to an existing habit directly after. Also I find cleaning easier to do when I’m already doing a dull task ie. cooking and there is a timer for the food (small motivation) to use that time completing a small amount of cleaning/putting away. x

I found out I have ADHD this year as an adult. Oops! Explains a lot of things. Here are some things that help me clean/declutter:
    1. The right tools. I'm poor, so I always bought cheap storage boxes/shelves and cheap cleaning supplies/brushes/vacuum/mops, etc. This made putting things away more difficult and cleaning take forever and require more physical energy. Invest in proper supplies and save your time and body strain, and you will require less willpower to start the cleaning process.
    2. The one touch rule. Once you have something in your hand, don't place it anywhere that requires another touch to bring it where it belongs. Just take it to where it needs to be. This is hard for me because sometimes this feels inefficient, but this absolutely prevents piles of forgotten stuff from forming.
    3. Cleaning at least one thing a day. It can be as simple as running a swiffer over the ceiling fan, or cleaning one mirror, or doing one load of laundry out of the many. Often, doing one task breaks the mental barrier and is so motivating that it builds momentum that pushess me to do more. I like to listen to youtube or music when cleaning and see how much I can get done during the timeframe. Getting in the habit of doing this demystifies cleaning and decluttering, and eventually you can transition to a more structured cleaning routine, which will be the easiest to follow because it will take the least guesswork and willpower.
    4. Be judicious with your things. Multiple times, when younger, I had my mess get so bad before that I've thrown 70%+ of my stuff away in frustration, because it was easier than trying to sort it/clean it. This has taught me that I can do without most things, and also that I need to be more careful with the things I own if I don't want this to happen again .
    5. Remembering that everyone deserves to live in a nice space. I think a lot people bully themselves over their messes, or have other things going on besides ADHD that complicate their mental and emotional health that affect how they view themselves and gets in the way of reaching out for help. I hope everyone knows it's okay to be overwhelmed by your mess, but that it's something you can conquer with time and effort, and that it's okay to ask for assistance if you can't do it alone.

Wow, this must have taken so much courage to make for the world to see but I'm very grateful that you did. I had no idea that this was the issue behind why I've struggled with poor time management, procrastination and thrived on fight or flight. I've been completely isolated for the last 3 years Covid made no difference in my life and I thought my depression stemmed from the fact that I was diagnosed with late stage Lyme and that I have no support because I was attracted to people who were takers since I was happy to be a giver. Now when my life is literally dependent on me setting boundaries, having discipline and getting help. I am frozen, negative experiences with doctors and those I thought would be here have had a paralyzing affect and although I am not suicidal, I am self destructive which can ultimately take away my chances of healing, overcoming and a waste of my potential to feel fulfilled by doing something to help others, be inspired and inspire as you are doing. self confident doesnt come to those who wait for it, yet here I am still waiting for someone to tell me how to make the shift. I've faked it, I've made it and then left it so I could do what I do well...start all over again. Me prepared, never, I could outsmart any challenge that life had to throw my way. Not only was I wrong , I was careless and the toll it has taken is my physical health.. I was the healthiest, happiest person I knew.. now I'm the sickest and saddest, and only me I have to blame

I have the calandar, black bags, boxes. What I need is the emotional motivation. The emotional payoff for sacking things up, dragging it up 2 flights of stairs walking 300 feet up hill and chucking into a dumpster. All on a bone on bone knee.
I used to move every 3yrs. Uneccessary things would get chucked. I know the universe hates vacuums, so things would come to me for free.. I've lived in one spot for a decade. The roommate is one of those sentimental types. So I'm stuck with things I put behind me in childhood and then they came back to haunt me after my parents deaths. i.e. dead parent's photo collections in triplicate. Sewing supplies, dad's books....Unecessary art supplies of my own I've not touched in a decade.
.... I detest, having to store other people's things with psychic residue...I loath having to value things like photos, when I could care less...
Then dump the ADHD and body pain into the mix and it's like dealing with a hoarder, except it's my stuff.

Stoked you mentioned Marie Kondo. Wish she would do another Netflix series. First one was so helpful, though I found I got halfway through then got the overwhelm when my job went a bit nuts. Take 2.... try again :) ! Question - Did you find before you got help for your ADHD that you were in a kind of survival mode? I take care of things I HAVE to, to survive, eg. my job work, but it takes everything I've got and fatigues me so much I have nothing left for 'life' or the work I want to do for myself. Am educating myself on ADHD though haven't been for a diagnosis. Asked for one three years ago but the doctor did not even ask me any questions and said it was all media hype :(

Either I have undiagnosed ADHD or other diagnoses has some of the same symptoms :)
I have gotten a mixed diagnosis, mainly in the direction of anxiety and depression (and I have to be rediagnosed as I learned that my family tree has suffered from Bipolar for generations and I can relate a lot to that mindset of being manic when not depressed (such as when writing long ass comments 😂🙈))
and I feel like it affect my productivity and organising abilities at home greatly, as I procrastinate a whole lot more than I actually get stuff done- OR I overdo(hyperfocus perhaps?) until completely drained and will then be too mentally tired to get anything done for dayyys ! x3
OFC you could have ADHD, but no matter what it is that affects you, I believe it's always a good idea to talk to a professional if you feel like you have issues that affect your life negatively💖

That's the problem, don't spread it out over months to sort. Set a week to do the lot. Be militant about it. Bring in friends and family to help over one weekend. Dont fight them. Have fun, play music, have food and drinks (not alcohol) ready for your SMASH IT WEEKEND dont think to much. It will be tough letting go, STOP THINKING about it. If you haven't used it in the last 6 months get rid of it.
    Letting go is a verb!!
A verb is an action word.

SF Giants, baby! (I'm originally from San Francisco, so I'm biased) Seriously though, I find your channel helpful. I'm in the process of getting diagnosed (in my mid 30s), but I highly suspect that I have the Inattentive subtype. Aloha from Hawaii - Hari

Ok, so I think you are doing great work with some of your vids that are really spot on. Your dedication in itself and to get AD(H)D more known is respected much. But this video is quite pathetic and almost an insult to intelligent ADHD people. You said nothing new at all, and the solutions are like teaching a kid. These are the absolute first tips anyone could give and has given. This is surface scratching. Come on now, you can do better than this. Putting stuff on a calendar does not make you do anything, especially something simple as that. Hollow words. If it was all this simple than it would not be an issue for people. It’s way more complicated that people build up clutter while even knowing being negatively affected by it, but can’t prevent this from happening again and again. You don’t live up to the first 16 seconds of the video. Clutter control starts with what you bring into the house, the first decisions, and the Daily routine you need to learn yourself on what looks tidy, acceptable and “getting out of hand” in combo with at least a weekly task of getting things back to tidy. It is the continuous reminder of what the standard should be for yourself in your house and act if not acceptable on an almost daily basis, to prevent the spiral down. And many other things, but not; the bin-bag is your best friend.

ADHD Mastery I think you did a great job in this video. Looking at all the comments, Id say lots of people were very much helped by your tips. I know I was. Im forwarding this to my son, an adult with severe ADHD. You nailed it, like you were describing him exactly. Thank you for your great content. My son and I will continue to watch. 👏🙋‍♀️

People have ADHD in varying forms of severity. These tips are very helpful to many people who are desperately struggling with severe ADHD. People who need tips like this are still intelligent. I think it's pathetic to comment on someone's video, who is taking the time to help others and call them pathetic.
