FX Impact M3 .30 caliber air rifle from Box to Bench in 20 Minutes-First shots at 57 and 103 yards

- The FX Impact M3 was announced just a few months ago and had new features interesting enough to me that I wanted to get my hands on one. Which meant selling my trusted original Impact. Utah Airguns will buy outright or sell on consignment high end airguns in good shape, and so I enlisted their assistance with the sale, and when that was done, I placed my order.
In early June, while attending to the burial of my father at Arlington, my new rifle arrived at the front door of the #backyardrange and while I was driving home to meet it, I had an idea.
What if I showed the world the first shots? What if I just opened the box and shot it? @CyclopsJoeVideos please relax. This is not an unboxing video, and you will not develop any rashes or additional personal trauma from watching it. I promise!
Have you ever thought about a rifle and wondered how it will really shoot out of the box? Well, this is the video for you. What you will see is me opening the box, bolting on a few essentials, and shooting it. First a five shot group at 50 yards (I spared you shots 2-8, which was sight in) and then the next 12 shots (I lost count) at 103 yards.
You will see it through the scope, and then you'll see close ups of the measured groups.
You might watch the video and say that this rifle isn't as good as some other one. If that's what you are thinking, show me the groups.
You might watch the video and say I'm not a very good shot. Well, let's see the video where you take a rifle from a box and shoot it on camera at 100 yards.
I also threw in a couple of snapshots from groups I shot the following day. Even a TwistX barrel can benefit from some leading in.

Heartfelt condolences for your loss. I am very impressed with this presentation of "out of the box" performance. People can say all they want but FX puts out the best in air rifles. I don't own one but will some day God willing. Thanks for sharing this experience with us and congrats on getting this fine weapon.

Mark Huxstep : You got your Maverick yet? I was told next year by Hermanns next year becomes next month god knows how long. I was after a Maverick also. I made a list to phone around all the gun shops and found a new bronze M3 @ 3GT so I got that instead of waiting. Its at my GS now just waiting on my PTA. Not that I am in a hurry still have no way of filling yet.

Hard to beat that accuracy outta the box! Wouldn't win RMAC but every critter within 100 is gonna be hating it! Groups will only get better as the gun breaks in too. At least that how it worked with my Maverick .25

Big difference between the launch of the Daystate Delta Wolf and the FX Impact M3 is also that the Delta Wolf platform is brandnew and the Impact platform has been around for 5-6 years ! 👍😃
And for the record, people are still waiting on their M3's here in Denmark and they are produced in our neighbour country Sweden ! 🙃🙃
I can’t show your video, so I’ll just tell you the story. When I took that first shot I couldn’t figure out where it went. I took a second shot and that wasn’t any better. I don’t think you saw that shot on video. I stopped recording and I took a third shot with the corner room at the top of the page and I didn’t see that one either. But I took a shot aiming at the bottom of the paper and I saw that at the ground at the base of the target. So I took another shot even higher on the backstop. That one I saw hit low. It was pretty much perfect left to right so I just worked it up to my point of him at 50 yards.
It wasn’t until after I had edited the video that it dawned on me about the 20 MOA rail!
I did not touch the Diles or regulator prior to shooting. I have since dropped the velocity just a bit.
I am sure that the release of the Delta Wolf has not gone as Daystate imagined it. One of our team’s shooters is a devout Daystate fan and I defer to him on these matters, because his Air Wolf is his first love. He has been beside himself over the time it’s taken to get rifles out and is frustrated by the lack of videos displaying how well it shoots at longer ranges. Truth be told, it’s one of the things that prompted me to do this video.
Your comment about not being able to get M3’s in Denmark reminds me of how I feel when I walk outside and smell my neighbor cooking bratwurst on the grill and yet I got no invite to the barbecue!

I enjoyed the video and details that you presented. Thank you for you father's service! I am a USAF veteran and I know the importance of service. I have been debating on a getting a PCP rifle, not sure if I want a .25 cal or .30. But I know I want the suppressor /moderator. Also insure about refilling options. Any advice??
My advice is to sort out how you’re going to supply air first. It’s not the most exciting part of air gun ownership, but determining how you’re going to fill will push off frustrations in the long run.
If you have access to somebody, like a buddy who works as a volunteer fire fighter, they might be able to use their breathing air compressor to get you air. Or you might have a scuba shop nearby that can fill a tank for you. If you have a source that can fill a tank, then getting a tank is a fairly straightforward way to go. Both Pyramyd Air and Airguns Of Arizona have air gun calculators on their websites that can tell me how many fills a particular tank will give you.
If that isn’t an option then you’re either hand pumping or buying a compressor. I don’t know how much you’ve looked into it, but I understand that your basic shop compressor probably tops out at 200 psi and we’re talking about going up to 200 and possibly over 300 bar. One of the best things to come about in the last year or two is a rise of personal compressors intended for filling directly to your PCP rifle. Prices are still a little high, but some units are getting close to the $500 mark. Unless you’re comfortable rebuilding things, I don’t recommend cheaper options. If you decide that hand pumping is what you’re going to have to do, then there are rifles I would not pick. I would not pick something that has a carbon fiber bottle, and I would stay with .177 or .22 caliber. The .25 and .30 rifles are just going to drive you nuts trying to keep air in them if your hand pumping.
At the lower price points things like the Origin or Avenger are good choices and are fairly hand pump friendly. They do it by having relatively small air cylinders. The Qrigin has some other secret sauce under the hood. If your budgets a little bigger look for something with an air tube versus a bottle.
You mentioned wanting to be able to put a moderator on. Some rifles are definitely easier to adapt, and some need no adapter at all.
I know there’s a lot of information here, but it’s really just an overview. Maybe I need to do a full video on air sources.

That gun will absolutely thrive on the Hybrid slugs with minimal tuning with the new faster twist barrels they ship with now ( I know you prefer to shoot pellets, but just saying......). I have a MK II with the power plenum that I got just before they released the MK III ( ain't it always the way?) I have no complaints though. It is within a few fps of the MK III with an even bigger plenum and the dual regs with equal reg pressures. It loves the Hybrids at any range, but ( I know FX and many YT guys will disagree, especially if FX is sponsoring them LOL) they do not expand worth a crap on actual game IME (as opposed all the claims in videos of them being fired into clay, water or gel) I have recovered several of them from large raccoons in both 25 and 30 cal shot at close range (7 yards and under, so near muzzle speed of 930 in both cals) and all that happens is the nose bends over sideways and penetration is limited. That said, they are extremely accurate and at 30 cal, kill well anyway regardless of the poor expansion. I have yet to see pellets (including the Hades which my guns like) or slugs that expand as reliably and widely as H&N Baracuda Hunters (non extreme) on critters as small as starlings or sparrows. I wish they made them in 30 cal. They expand great yet penetrate more than deeply enough to kill from all angles IME
PS: Please do a video on lightening the trigger if you can. I have played with my Dreamline a lot, but haven't messed with the Impact yet. I have watched ER's videos on doing it, but from what he said in his trigger tuning video on the Impact, it seems that the weight isn't really adjustable, only the length of travel of both stages? My trigger is nice/crisp, but too heavy for my preferences.
I got rid of my impact mk2, heavy, awkward, no more accurate than my other pcps and the worst trigger out of my 14 pcps.
I was looking into the trigger adjustment yesterday and came to the same conclusion and am going to be doing some research and will share my findings.
I have some hybrids but have not yet had the time to give them a rip.

So my bronze M3, .25, 700 mm came in last week. Got a Nexus, arca rail, grip, custom dip and ceracoat, paid for the mounting, zeroing, and slug tune. And guess what, no compressor or slugs yet. HAHAHA. It looks great, even at 100 yards. Lol

Ive got around to being motivated to PX my mk2 .30 for a m3 .30, found one in a local shop but will take about a week to get (UK FAC Licensing Process). I have ended up with 3X .30 probes- the standard one, the Huma Hi-flo and the slug pin probe( i had a .30 sleeve made for me in a local engineering shop) so I will do a video of all 3 to see what difference they make. Have you tried any different probes? FYI My Mk2 with 72PP and huma probe was doing 105FPE on 160Bar
I had some bad luck with a pin probe and switched back tot he regular one with no issues. It's probably not a road I'll revisit.
@@WiscAirGunners my pin probe didnt work with pellets or slugs on the pellet Transfer port at all. but Mine was an early M3 with only the pellet tp - so I now have an huma slug probe to try with the slug probe- I will do a video soon

Being out of the box and 30 caliber the settings that you used what was the feet per second and how many shots on one Fill ? Thank you.
It was at 892, and I did not do a full string for two reasons. One, I just usually don't do strings. Two, pellets are in short supply and that seems wasteful at the moment. With that said, I get an easy two magazines before I'm off the first reg, I usually just top off then.

In this case, the issue was that the scope had come off a rifle WITHOUT a 20 MOA rail, and went onto a rifle WITH a 20 MOA rail. In my excitement I spaced it out. Guess where the pellets were going???

Great video! Now that you have it, what are your thoughts compared to the maverick?
It (the M3) has what feels like a smoother shooting cycle, due to the split action...the hammer and valve aren't banging into one another under your cheek.
The Maverick's rear wheel hammer adjuster is more intuitive than the Impact's old two-way wheel, but the M3 wheel and micro adjuster are pretty slick. At least you have a chance to make an adjustment and get back to where you started.
The M3's cocking handle is slightly better placed, but I have a lengthened handle on my Maverick to compensate for that.

JSB 44 grain and I think it was around 860 if memory serves. I've tweaked the tune a few times since then for different situations.
Have a quick question for you. I had Utah tune my in Impact Mk3 for 34 grain JSB pellets. First reg at 145 and second at 110. Macro and Micro at max and valve is wide open. Shooting about 900 fps. I want to keep that speed but I am using like 5 bar a shot. Not getting very efficient at all. Since this is my first impact I do not know where to start. Close the valve then increase second reg? I have had many people say close the valve but then I will lose fps. Any advise really helps.

What barrel length are you shooting?
@@WiscAirGunners 600. I called Utah, They refunded the turn cost as it ws completely jacked. 35 ST Dev and 102 spread. I think the tuner, won't name names just set it at whatever and sent it. Retuned it at 150 first, 120 second, 4 valve, 16 macro and 3.5 micro. St Dev is now 2 and spread is 5 with JSB 34. I am going to try 25 grain pellets this week by lowering the Macro. I also want to try some slugs and see how they do with stock.
I wanted to try your barrel harmonic tuner since my 75 yard groups with pellets are opening up quite a bit. Any suggestions on getting my group tighter at 75 and 100.

@@brocwavra8813 the trick with the harmonic tuner is to start with a really stable tune, from a standard deviation standpoint, in a good velocity range for the slug or pellet you're trying to shoot. I like to shoot groups at between 45 and 65 yards to limit the influence of environmental conditions. I look for "good" groups first as I rotate the tuner, but I also pay attention to vertical dispersion. When I find a couple of settings that show promise I go back and make sure that setting gives repeatable positive results. Then I shoot farther out to confirm things. Before I "finalize" on a setting I've probably shot 50 or 60 groups testing, confirming and re-confirming my results.
@@WiscAirGunners Thank you for your response. My Std Dev was 2 and spread was 5 with the JSB 34 gram pellet. I am going to try and extend that out to 75 yards and and 100 as I was shooting a tight group at 50. Thanks for the help

I've had slugs up to 980 in .30 cal, then brought it back down. It is capable of higher.

It's a 700mm barrel, and I'm shooting the 44 grain JSB at 892 FPS.

Excuse me but that doesn't look like "out of the box" performance. Remember the card that was in the box from Utah Airguns that stated the average velocity ? They verified function of the rifle and pre-tuned it for that pellet. I think they do that for all the guns they sell. I consider "out of the box" to mean as received from the factory. If you purchase it from somewhere else you might not get the same level of service.
I appreciate the comment. In this case I didn't specify any target tune, as I intended to do that myself. I agree that the retailer matters in a calculation of the overall user experience.

Had an FX impact what a pile of junk, so many problematic leak points.
Mine had leak after leak.
