It is interesting that when you simulate at Strelok Pro, at 205 yards (his shot is at 207 yards, if not mistaken), to get that energy of 35.82 Ftlbs (602 FPS - 44.5 grains), the ballistic coefficient would have to be around 0.060 to match the real data, considering his muzzle velocity is 950 FPS, way way lower than the advertised 0.102, almost half of it....I wonder how they come up with this marketing numbers? Dont take me wrong, still better to cut the wind than pellets, but nowhere near what they advertise...or am I missing something here?
You do some of the most informative videos.. Real talented marksman. I grew up with guns and always considered myself a pretty good shot.. But you are very good. Sometimes we need to see levels of performance higher than our own to realize where we stand. Not many can shoot better than you. I watched your vid on the AEA Challenger 30 cal w/ 32 barrel and I ordered one.. will be here in a few days. I hope it is as accurate as you showed with the 200 yard coyote. That was awesome.. Thanks for your excellent videos.
Thanks Rick. This is the information a airgun hunter needs. I've got my 25 cal Maverick sniper set at your power levels. The gun shoot a variety of slugs and pellets with a simple power wheel adjustment. Valuable information here.
Had my new 30 Maverick Sniper slug barrel out yesterday in 20 mph winds and tried the FX hybrids. Past 50 yards forget it. 55 grain NSA were better and cheaper.
What kind of velocity, are you getting with those NSA 55gr slug's? I got a Maverick Sniper 25 cal, but I bought the 30cal kit for it. I recently got, the AEA Challenger Pro 30 cal also, but haven't opened the box yet.

Great channel Rick, keep them videos coming. Did you have the barrel rotated to slugs when you were doing the slug testing? I have a .30 Maverick and only have one big air opening on the barrel. There is no Pellet/Slug option on the end where the pellet would enter.?? I thought there was a slug & pellet port. Thx.
Original Smooth Twist is just too slow of a twist to get them performing well. Short distance you'd be fine but at longer distance they need the faster 1:23 twist that the Superior Liner imparts to spin them at the proper rate.
@@shooter1721 Thanks. I just saw them at Utah. And didn’t see any videos for them yet. Maybe you can shoot a card at 400 yards for us. Hummm. Challenge!!!!!
Rick, fantastic video. Loved all information. Can you test one of the new Hubens. I hear they’ve fixed the problems earlier guns models had shooting pellets.
Wow. Fair amount of movement on a high bc , heavy slug at 100. Pellet 2x the deflection ? Would be cool to see the venerable 22 lr , std velocity 40gr comparison.
you need about a 100-110gr .30 bullet to be similar, ballistically, to a 36-40gr .22 bullet. Were you to fill in the cavity on that hollow .30 bullet, you might have something close to 75gr. Not only would the .22LR bullet be going faster, it is also more efficient. There appears to be almost no wind during this testing, a .22LR might drift .5"-1" in 100 yards, maybe 4" at 200yards with it.
I have fired several hundred of the hybrids through my 30 at 930 fps. I am always interested in these tests, but IME on actual game, no matter pellet or slug, the results are far different than on clay or BG. I have a few recovered Hybrids taken from large raccoons shot at 7 yards through the face and down the neck. They didn't expand much at all other than having the nose collapse in on itself a bit to form a 30 cal cylinder. It has been the same way with NSA slugs in 22, 25, and 30 cals, and with the Hyrbids in 25 cal fired at 955.. I have 2400 more 30 Hybrids because they shoot well and cut the wind. I was shooting them yesterday at 85-105 yards in a 15 mph crosswind and not getting anywhere near the drift you did here. I am noticing that the last two orders of Hybrids seem to have the hollow point problem taken care of. My first couple orders, the opening was filled with lead particles and barely open and may be the reason why they weren't expanding properly. The last couple orders all have a nice clean opening and it also seems to be slightly larger than before. We'll see how they do on game. :-)
I totally agree with your observation about the lack of expansion for the FX .25 cal. and 30 cal. hybrids through game and ballistic gel. I have done my testing on the .22 cal Hybrids which do expand very well in gel and pigeons too. The .25 Hybrids have not expanded in the gel and in pigeons. The 30's I have tested in the gel showed very little expansion. I am waiting to try the 30's on a shot groundhog with a body shot to compare results. I got to wonder why the expansion tests results were only shown on the clay and not shown with the gel. Is there some hyping of the results going on here. Why can't we just be satisfied with knowing these slugs can be accurate and have good b.c.'s for longer range shooting on small critters with body shots and heads shots on larger game.
its a good weight 44.5 for 30 cal whats better tho as NSA offers many weights 43.8 is the close competitor and it has a hollow point and also looks good ,, they claim a lot of hype on the fx slug they say accuracy twist rate, a comparison video of fx vs nsa slugs next would be cool
@@themikarenolds2910 I have a variety of NSA slugs in 25 and 30 cal. I have the 43.5 and 47.2 and 49.5 NSA 30's. The 43.8 actually shoot quite well in my 30 with the newest Superior liners (which have a varying degree of twist for some unknown reason). I have one that is 1-23" and one that is 1-22" twist, both 30 cal and both 700 mm. I have not bothered with the 1-22 because the 1-23 showed up at my door first and has been very good with both pellets and slugs. In fact, it shoots the 44.75 JSB/FX pellets as well as or better than, the original 1-37 my Impact MK II w/PP came with which was an STX liner. The 47.2 and 49.5 shoot pretty well, and may actually shoot awesome if I wanted to mess with my tuning, but I don't. The Hybrids shoot great. I have shot them to 130 yards so far. The NSA just don't quite match the Hybrids on my tune, but I will say, the 43.5 does actually expand some, but they will tip over sideways in the FX sideshot mags, so you have to pay attention to that.
💡The solution is speed👍 Different batches of slugs have different amounts of antimony mixed in with the lead, thus making them harder, so if you want good expansion you need faster speeds. I NEVER go by the BS written on the boxes because it's just advertising sales-tales a majority of the time😞 Just like these channels that are "pay to say" advertiser's😔 There's far too many people that lack the ability to test thing's and to think for themselves and blindly follow these channels as far as quality/purposed slug speeds and other thing's and take what theyve been told as being facts😬 And the silliest one I think is the whole "you should only shoot 950fps and slower to get good results MYTH😒 I shoot my slugs at over 1100fps and get phenomenal results as far as expansion and accuracy, and of course that's only with slugs and not pellets because they're made for the slow paper shooting groupies that leads the unknowing people to be slow. So yep speed gives the best of the best in my experience, wishing you great results!🙏👍👍👍👍👍

Are using a slug liner or the standard liner with these hybrids?
Wow I thought these, FX hybrids had a BC of .102 ? To have a initial velocity of 950 fps & at 200 yard's, the slug only retains, a velocity of 602 FPS that's a BC of .055, I know the bc changes, at different velocity's, but that much of a difference, is crazy.
Could you think about running a domed pellet and a solid 30 caliber slug against the hybrids please 🙏🏻 would also be nice to see it in 25 caliber as well at the 200 and 300 yard ranges if you would please sir thank you love your content
The hybrids seem to be sized a little too large for most 30 cal guns other than the fx's I guess. I have tried to get them to shoot just won't do it. The Nelsons shoot extremely well. like to see some hundred-yard groups with the hybrids in a FX gun as well.
