This is the switchxl, now in some years will come the new switch. But i hope they made like new docks that enhance the original switchs with a little more power(this oled docks dont do that yet)
Never getting rid of my launch Switch. Those old models can run custom firmware. And it's so nice, being able to force the CPU and GPU to run at max speeds all the time, instead of only having the CPU hit max speeds when on a loading screen. Can even force max speeds when in hand-held mode. So you can get docked performance while handheld. Yeah, drains the battery more...but it makes games like Hyrule Warriors actually playable.

I wish they made the Joy-con buttons soft like on the lite, had to get used to the same old clicky buttons after I sold my lite. Might have to pick this one up but I gotta see that OLED display in-person. Recommend others to do so as well since I think TH-cam probably doesn't do it justice.

@@luisdireito dont worry, youll get used to them, but yes. the lite has softer face buttons. some would say theyre bad and "mushy", but other people like them. the ones on the normal switch are clicky. dont know about the OLED as i wont get my hands on one anytime soon but thats probably the case as well
We have both and I personally like the clickiness of the OG switch. That said the dpad on the lite is amaziing. L, R, ZL, and ZR for me have better clickiness on the switch too. My switch lite feels really cheap in comparison.
I have a launch Switch that stays at home, and a Switch Lite. I really like the Lite's increased portability. Pass on this, but I do agree that it's great if for someone that does not already have a Switch. What I would like to know, is if I could somehow make a FrankenSwitch with the original Motherboard, and the new OLED Switch.
Don't you worry, a Switch Lite OLED is coming. I would be willing to bet my left foot on that. My guess is Spring 2022 or potentially September or October 2022. Most likely the latter. So hang on to that Switch Lite and your money for now if you want ab OLED to play in portable mode. Of course this is just my educated guess... You have to admit though, it's what makes logical sense really. They're probably going to bait people with this OLED to test the waters and see how many people are willing to spend $50 more for OLED. Then later on if this model does well they will definitely release an OLED Lite model.
@@ecm86 Doubt it. The last few versions that released were in the Switch firmware over a year before they were launched, if another one was gonna be released any time soon, it'd already be there.
I thought the oled was going to be extremely meh, but it looks like there's alot more little changes to it. Not gonna buy it, but it's better than I thought.
Wolfden is incorrect. They did change the internals. My source is a Nintendo article. This switch’s come with more memory, 64GB now and they redid the speaker assembly to provide a crisper sound. Those are internal changes, it may not be the changes that you wanted, but they are still internal changes.
I’m not a true gamer but I’m stuck in WA. I appreciate NY makers and your content! Thank you. Just got the switch oled (paid way more than I should) and I have the lite. Currently on Pokémon bd. Thank you again for the content.
Needed up pre ordering the white at launch and can't wait! I have a V1 launch day switch that works fine but I have it modded to run other stuff. Will be nice to have 1 for hacking and 1 original.
I saw Kevin's first, and now yours. I'm interested in seeing how the Joycons hold up this time around, as well as other 3rd party devices, so here's hoping you guys come in clutch. Still...I'd be lying if I said a crisper screen wasn't tantalizing, as I do most of my Switch gaming in Portable Mode...
If they do a switch pro or similar system in the next generation model they should incorporate screen casting for when you can't dock the system. Yes screen casting is not ideal but imagine taking your switch on the go and being able to play on any screen you have available if you wanted to. Could be huge for games like Mario kart at a friends place or on vacation.
Yeah, I pretty much only play in docked mode, but when I do play in handheld, I'm usually casually gaming and not too critical of the screen in front of me. Very thorough, though. I really appreciate a good analysis like this.
Considering its practically a given that Nintendo's Switch successor will almost certainly be a Switch 2, likely capable of playing the original Switch library, I see no good reason that any original Switch owner should upgrade to this model and not instead just wait for it's inevitable follow-up. Having said that, it looks great, and if I didn't already have a Switch, I definitely would want this one.
I play mostly handheld and had the OG March 2017 Switch. The OLED is a game-changer. The stand is actually usable, and the battery life is insane. Walmart inexplicably sold it on preorder for $299 too. No regrets whatsoever.
Here's what I think about using "true color" on movies and stuff I see why it would make sense, but videogames are stylized, they don't use natural colors, they are already altered and enhanced to be pleasant to the eye so a vivid setting would probably just emphasize the tweaks made to be eye candy. True color may dull some of the intended color choices
The only important thing is white balance imo. For example, my PS Vita Slim looks way better than my OLED one cause the OLED screen looks super warm and whites are reddish.

I’ve never had any problems with my launch switch. Literally got it first day and it still runs like a dream. I just gotta replace the screen protector from some very slight scratches. I’ve also sent in my joy cons for drift but that didn’t cost me anything. It’s cool but not worth the money in my opinion.
@@esmooth919 dang that sucks. It’s really just different for everyone. My experience was really good. They didn’t even fix mine, just sent me brand new joy cons.
@@esmooth919 Damn, that sucks. I just went on amazon and bought a couple joystick replacements. Not too expensive, and I didn't have to send out my joycons for a week+ to get them back. But I like doing that kind of stuff, so the cost wasn't an issue for me. I had also replaced the plastic block thing that keeps the joycon locked in the side rails, with one made of metal. I was gonna finally get myself a switch and then i saw this oled model so i decided to wait till october 8th to get my switch. Perfect timing for me to buy a switch.
This was such a helpful review, I was debating whether to trade my v2 switch for the OLED model (costing me £84 to do so) but considering I play it in TV mode more often than in handheld. I'll definitely stick with my current switch for now, especially if there are no TV mode upgrades aside from a LAN port that I won't use.
Just a point of correction: The speakers of the Switch OLED are the slits on the front of the screen. The mesh areas on the back you keep referring to are actually the the air intake vents.
i wonder if future special editions will be OLED-only, old style-only, or both. i can't imagine they'd bother to do two version though, so it'll probably be only one, and my money is on OLED
I think the biggest thing they overlooked/could have easily improved is the experience of putting your switch in the dock. It's just plastic on plastic, feels like a toy. Not to mention it can scratch the screen, especially if you have kids. I'm surprised they didn't put a slippery rubber on the inseam of the dock, that seems like such a missed opportunity.
The new features are tempting. But the hardware makes it virtually pointless. I'm predicting that a newer more powerful Switch is likely not too far behind going off of Nintendo's past track record. And it would have all the OLED model features. That's reason enough for me not to bite.
@@AldentheBlue Yes I didn’t realize reading text would be an issue.. This really wasn’t prevalent on my Vita and PSP.. But I suppose some Switch games were just crafted to be played on a bigger screen for some reason..
I only got my V2 switch last Christmas. I was so annoyed when they announced the OLED lol. I mainly play my switch in handheld and I do find myself struggling a little bit with the screen size on the V2, especially on games like BOTW where there’s quite a lot of detail that can be harder to see on the smaller screen, so the bigger screen on the OLED is tempting. That being said, my switch is less than a year old and I wouldn’t want to sell it or trade it in and I have no use for two switches. Plus with no real performance upgrades other than the screen theres not a ton of reasons for me to seriously consider switching (ha) to the OLED when I have an almost brand new V2 that works flawlessly. I’d probably agree with you that the OLED is a good deal for people buying their first switch now, or upgrading from a V1.
Don’t worry I give it at most 2 to 3 years before they say sum about the pro in a direct here or at least you’ll see real leaks like we did with the OLED
It's interesting that no one seems to have looked into the dock yet. Don't forget that you can actually purchase the dock separately for the current switch if you wish. That along with the slight redesign and the recent update that allows you to update the dock could mean that its possible that this new dock could allow the switch to run better while docked.... (That's a lot of dock in one sentence)
im waiting for either a really nice looking special edition OLED or a OLED lite version. if either of those things come out im gonna be real tempted (and i still use my launch switch so im more inclined to go for a lite as a 2nd console)

@@challengerdrakava1198 While I agree with you on the internals, I don't think it's too far-fetched to call it an "upgrade" and have people understand what you're talking about. Thank you for this I started having doubts for pre-ordering the white version after getting shit on for months by everyone I know because they didn’t “improve the specs” Seeing the actual product in the whole “new system” shine helped reaffirm my purchase
I still have not decided what version to get. Both look good. I think the white joycons makes the black bezels more noticeable which I dont like. I think nintendo should have made even the switch itself white not only the joycons that would have been really clean and beautiful looking console. Therefore I think I will go with the Red/blue too.
Great video. What was left out is that if you play portable, and you have a Day 1 Switch, this is a worthy upgrade too. The battery is way way better. Is the same as the V2, BUT funny enough it lasts more. Because of OLED Tech. Black Pixels turn off entirely instead of being lit with the color, and it's overall more energy efficient. That's why, despite having the same battery, you can squeeze out 1h+ more out of stuff like BotW compared to the V2, and 3h more compared to the Day 1. (If you play on Max Effects, Max Brightness, Max everything. If you play V2 and OLED on Medium, they last the same. However, the OLED at Max lasts 10m less than the OLED at Medium, while the V2 at Max lasts 1 hour less than the V2 in Medium. Always on BotW)
The problem with screen comparisons on TH-cam is that you have compression, video resolution, your monitor resolution, pixel density and color profiles hindering the comparison. Just the fact we can see a difference when both screens are put side to side says a lot about the quality of the product.
Personally I always felt the launch model screen size was too small to do anything other than docked. I like the new crisp screen. I'll most likely sell my launch switch
The way I see it, it reminds me of when the gamboy advanced SP came out but then later down the road they did an update to the system and released the ags 101 model and had a brighter screen
Fantastic video, it's super cool seeing how much bigger the screen is on the new model. Tiny editing thing, but the audio background noise removal effect is kinda distracting, I would rather you just left your microphone recording alone
Yes, and this is some special OLED type. I have never seen this subpixel arrangement. Looks like true RGB, just with the blue subpixel being larger. This is critical to have with only 720p at 7".
Looks more like the air intake, rather than speaker grills. Also over saturation can be annoying, and one of the issues of introducing a new panel technology, is that some games color calibration will be off by a lot. So these profiles are welcome.
GameStop gave me $260 for my launch switch. So I scooped up one of these. What a difference in battery life! Because my switch was from launch it was a V1 and I can tell you the battery life in this OLED version is significantly better. Between that and the new beautiful screen it was a obvious upgrade for me. I have kids in the house so portable is all I can play at times.
I got out my Switch and played it in handheld mode for the first time in weeks last night. It was fine. Looked great. Super fun. Think I’ll buy the new iPad instead.
I was very sold on the idea at first. Looking at how much bigger the screen is its still kind of appealing, but I cme to realize it's not worth my money when I already have a Switch. If I'm getting a new system, I'd rather have a PC if I have to start from scratch, but if it's a console, I'd want all my purchases to carry over to it like we can on the xbox.
I had a launch switch, it was battered, broken plastic on the case, had one of its rails replaced and all sorts. Couldn't decide between a red box or an oled. I live in the UK and the switch got a price drop so I jumped. Now I'm debating whether the oled should have been the one to go for despite it staying in a dock 80% of the time
@@kingrusty1st931 I greatly distrust the oled technology for now, it is proven that you have the possibility of having an unusable screen in a year or two. I wouldn't recommend it, more than ever if you plan to use it handheld intensively, but do what your heart tells you :)

It’s not even an upgrade… the screen has the same ppi it’s a more blown up image so you can see those fat pixels. You get a better image on the lite.
Instead of Oled..i bought the beautiful zelda joycons, a sleek dockable TomToc grip, and a nice TomToc hardshell case for my normal switch. Looks legit as hell now.
So who’s this console for as most fans would already own a switch 🤷🏾♂️

I have a launch model that will be going to my daughter when I pick up the OLED model on the 8th. I play mostly in handheld so it makes perfect sense to get the better screen and battery life.

It's very smooth and relaxing
Everything is straight forward and exceptionally easy to understand
This is one of the best reviews I've seen for anything
You went in depth in detail into everything, even showing me things I didn't even know about before
I know this is late, but thank you
I was pretty sure I was gonna get the upgraded switch model, but I'm still really happy with my Lite. I think this switch is perfect for people who havent bought any switches yet. Still really surprised Nintendo didn't upgrade anything with the specs. It seems like theyre doing the same mistake they did with the wii. Where they were afraid to update the model
Nintendo knows its consumers will buy anything. Like the expanison online with N64/Sega they are making people pay more for no upgrades
This is the switchxl, now in some years will come the new switch.
But i hope they made like new docks that enhance the original switchs with a little more power(this oled docks dont do that yet)
@@ManuelRoddy What would an upgraded dock do? Overclock the processor or include an eGPU? I don’t think either seems realistic for Nintendo.
my guess the conductor shortage is the main reason.
@@wnemethvargo284 Yea Thats what Ive been thinking too
Never getting rid of my launch Switch.
From what I heard a lot of the stuttering actually comes from slower ram? At least according to modern vintage gamer which he makes games on the switch. So I figured he'd have good insight.
same, even if I buy an OLED I'd still keep my launch Switch for custom firmware, though I've been too scared to actually put custom firmware on it, and I've heard you can't play online games when you hack it, since you'd get banned.

As hard as it was I cancelled my pre-order for the OLED model (well I put in a request to Idk if I did it on time) no because I have a problem with it but because I already have an og that works perfectly fine and two Switch lites, that I don’t even need (though I play the lite a lot and take it with me on my travels). The OLED looks amazing but apart from slight differences it’s just not worth getting it if you already ave a perfectly fine working one. When there is a new model with upgrades in how it runs in both handheld and docked then I’ll make a purchase
I have felt the old school switch was the Beta, and now their pushing out the real Switch. Although I agree with you no point to fix something that isn't broken. I'll wait the Pro Switch or better Chip version
Can always Waite for next year model.
So Nintendo decided to make a Nintendo switch oled, instead of giving it a much better computing power. I have a 55inch 4k oled Samsung TV that I plug my switch on. I need more power, NOT OLED ON THE HANDHELD WHEN YOU KNOW DAMN WELL PEOPLE WILL USE A TV TO PLAY GAMES IF THEY WANT BETTER DISPLAY!

I appreciate the first impressions video and the fact you played it instead of being like some other TH-camrs that rushed out a 'I gave an OLED Switch!" video but had nothing of substance to take say about it.
I wish they made the Joy-con buttons soft like on the lite, had to get used to the same old clicky buttons after I sold my lite. Might have to pick this one up but I gotta see that OLED display in-person. Recommend others to do so as well since I think TH-cam probably doesn't do it justice.
god, me too. its been over a year since i got my normal switch after giving my lite away and i still miss those damn soft buttons. and THE D-PAD.....
What do you mean? Are you saying the joy-con buttons are different than the Lite buttons? :O I thought they were the same. I also have a Lite and prefer the soft buttons, not clicky. I pre-ordered an OLED and now I'm worried...
@@LUPITHE0NZ they use the same joycons as the OG switch so I doubt anything has changed
I wish they make a better switch lite but not oled
The switch lite has less portability? What do you mean? It has no removable controllers, cant dock to charge,
Oh to be a TH-camr with inner connections that permit access to hardware far earlier than mere mortals...
lol you know how much crap youtubers have to deal with? It cant be worth it.

The intro was honestly better than the actual trailer for the oled switch.
That intro track was beyond flame 🔥
Glad I wasn’t alone in nicking the mesh when opening the kick stand. It’s not a huge deal but it does bug me a little.
Wolfden is incorrect. They did change the internals. My source is a Nintendo article. This switch’s come with more memory, 64GB now and they redid the speaker assembly to provide a crisper sound. Those are internal changes, it may not be the changes that you wanted, but they are still internal changes.
Thank you for posting a more detailed breakdown of the OLED. You mentioned more details than Nintendo's official unboxing video.
I’m not a true gamer but I’m stuck in WA. I appreciate NY makers and your content! Thank you. Just got the switch oled (paid way more than I should) and I have the lite. Currently on Pokémon bd. Thank you again for the content.
I'd love to have one but I just totally can't justify it. My switch never leaves the house. Plus I'm saving for the Steam Deck.
Yes
Steam deck is definitely 100x more worth it considering that the steam deck is just 50$ more than the old switch

The intro song was enough for me, great pick 🤣
Needed up pre ordering the white at launch and can't wait! I have a V1 launch day switch that works fine but I have it modded to run other stuff. Will be nice to have 1 for hacking and 1 original.
I saw Kevin's first, and now yours. I'm interested in seeing how the Joycons hold up this time around, as well as other 3rd party devices, so here's hoping you guys come in clutch.
Still...I'd be lying if I said a crisper screen wasn't tantalizing, as I do most of my Switch gaming in Portable Mode...
They're the same joycons
@@MobikSaysStuff Yeah, saw that a couple of months in. Still a big "oof", but that's why I stuck with the Hori's for a good while.
@@riptaiyo yeah i’m selling my old one to a friend because they don’t have one

I play mostly handheld and had the OG March 2017 Switch. The OLED is a game-changer. The stand is actually usable, and the battery life is insane. Walmart inexplicably sold it on preorder for $299 too. No regrets whatsoever.
The full white one looks better more feel like it’s new
It really does that's why everyone wants that version
But the colors are better...
Definitely getting the OLED.
Also.. light theme? You are a monster good sir

I think I might wait for a special edition OLED switch, I started with the launch model before switching over to the pikachu eevee edition and old my launch one to my Roomate. So.. I think upgrading it when a special edition comes out, after most of the hype is gone is what I will be doing. I just hope the special editions fall under the themes I want! I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to a gen 4 switch that had both copies of Pearl/Dimond, like they did with let’s go. Then it would be worth it to me. Until then, meh.
Damn it looks cool but without drift fix and any drastic changes, I wouldn’t trade in yet
There's a fix that was posted in IGN and Bob tried it, too.
I’ve never had any problems with my launch switch. Literally got it first day and it still runs like a dream. I just gotta replace the screen protector from some very slight scratches. I’ve also sent in my joy cons for drift but that didn’t cost me anything. It’s cool but not worth the money in my opinion.
I agree, great for if you have never bought one but not really worth it for existing people to upgrade.

Glad to know there's a standard mode, I saw a lot of photos of it with oversaturated colors and got a bit worried.
The Switch Lite
That close up oled comparison shot was a legendary decision. Great video!
As someone who has a launch model Switch, I can affirm that the dock scratches the screen way too easily.
just consistently blown away by this channel's production quality, wowzers
This is fine for everyone that havent bought a switch yet, for everyone else? Nah.
The new features are tempting. But the hardware makes it virtually pointless. I'm predicting that a newer more powerful Switch is likely not too far behind going off of Nintendo's past track record. And it would have all the OLED model features. That's reason enough for me not to bite.
I’m seriously considering getting it for those small text games that are hard to see portably.. I only have a Lite currently..
@@Mintcar923 That's probably not a bad reason, especially when you don't have access to TV mode.
@@AldentheBlue Yes I didn’t realize reading text would be an issue.. This really wasn’t prevalent on my Vita and PSP.. But I suppose some Switch games were just crafted to be played on a bigger screen for some reason..

I already knew everything you said in this video but enjoyed every second of it. You are soo good at making videos!
NGL that bigger screen looks like it’ll make Metroid look amazing 💛
It's interesting that no one seems to have looked into the dock yet. Don't forget that you can actually purchase the dock separately for the current switch if you wish.
That along with the slight redesign and the recent update that allows you to update the dock could mean that its possible that this new dock could allow the switch to run better while docked....
(That's a lot of dock in one sentence)
The realist, most honest review on TH-cam. I appreciate that!
Just saying, light mode is considered by many as sacrilegious and to some it's like getting a flashbang thrown at you.
I’m like 80% sure they used a stronger material for the joycon locks. I could be wrong but it feels much stronger and better fit.
The first 55 seconds of this video were way different than anything else you've created on this channel. It felt like a new season intro, loved it.
Your metal joycons are gonna look slick on this!
im waiting for either a really nice looking special edition OLED or a OLED lite version. if either of those things come out im gonna be real tempted (and i still use my launch switch so im more inclined to go for a lite as a 2nd console)

@@TheGoldenMetal fair enough, looking forward to getting mine too :)
I’m excited! I’m a launch model owner so I’m looking forward to the better screen and better battery life.
I'll most likely sell my launch switch
commenting just for the sake of that inro bob, chef kiss
The way I see it, it reminds me of when the gamboy advanced SP came out but then later down the road they did an update to the system and released the ags 101 model and had a brighter screen
Fantastic video, it's super cool seeing how much bigger the screen is on the new model. Tiny editing thing, but the audio background noise removal effect is kinda distracting, I would rather you just left your microphone recording alone
OLED tablets are not cheap. There’s a fair bit of value here, despite the lack of a performance upgrade.
I wonder if someone could install the oled screen on the old switch. The display area is obviously larger but the panel look like its the same size.
The body is actually very slightly longer so I wonder
I like how honest you are, way to go never change!
The only thing I want is the dock, because there is potential for “Switch Pro” firmware being added later.
They well sell the dock separately later
So really no reason to upgrade unless you play mosty hand held . I mainly play docked because I already own a oled TV
Good to know, maybe that will come in my test tomorrow
The vibe your videos always have is awesome
I wonder if after market back plate kickstands will be made for the original version
