If you almost exclusively play on docked mode (such as I do), it may not be worth the price point. 100% will be recommending this to all of my friends who don't own a Switch though, and I will bug then to let me try it
I actually prefer a smaller screen in handheld so I got a switch lite, I only play my switch in docked so I was disappointed when I heard about the oled. Wish they would’ve done some improvements for docked mode 😩
Yes, everyone who plays only or mostly docked should probably not upgrade. But there are also tons of people like me who play 95% handheld. This video got me even more excited to upgrade, especially because I still have a day-1 Switch and will really appreciate the better battery life, not to mention the better screen and kickstand.
@@theseamoon2180 True, but I bought a USB Ethernet adapter when I bought my switch. I like that it is built-in, but a moot point for me. I am firmly in the "I wish it had a little smoother performance" camp, as the frame dips sometimes are rough

Im probably gonna upgrade mine to OLED when I get the chance, since the switch I have was close to the launch and therefore had the faster battery drain, so I thought I might as well go for the best version available if I'm gonna upgrade
whys everyone got to be so hyperfocused on the technical side, nintendos games are optimised for the specs already plus most games are going to run perfectly besides stuff like doom. the upgrades look fantastic. i couldnt care less about specs. if anything a screen providing better visuals has way more impact than specs that wont change the vast majority of games......
Which do you think is better? On my original switch I have a glass screen protector, its nice knowing that if it does fall only the protector will shatter.
@Joel Johnson well switches are portable so alot of people would use the screen, so for people that use there switch in handheld mode the upgrade makes sense.
It looks like they improved a lot on the panel besides the jump from LCD to OLED. The display looks laminated instead of having that trash air gaps. Viewing angles look a lot better. It looks much brighter overall. And ofc it’s glass instead of the trash plastic
The only problem I have with this is that as impressive of a partial upgrade that it is, it just doesn't make sense if you already have a previous gen version. If they would have just upgraded the processor, GPU, and RAM, I would pull the trigger, but I'm just going to have to wait.
Depends, I got mine in 2017 and i have had the same one since then. The battery has deteriorated pretty badly to the point that i think i barely get 90 minutes on zelda. I'm getting the oled model in a week.
Na you can just sell your old one for 150-200 depending on if its release day or new battery one and get the oled. Its heavier feels better looks better. Better battery life due to being oled
It's the same thing as Nintendo releasing a Switch XL, literally the exact same concept that the 3DS XL or DSi XL were, in that it's a bigger better screen with a few improvements over the original like in the 3DS case buttons were better and speakers were better on the 3DS XL over the 3DS.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that when you get the oled switch you get 64 GB of internal storage as apposed to 32. Yes you could buy a SD card as well but games load faster on internal storage in comparison to SD or game card on switch.
Yeah, I already have a 400GB microSD in mine... and I have to upgrade that again. I can see this being something potentially good for someone who doesn't yet have a Switch since it likely has 57.9GB of useable storage. I don't know, I just don't see there being a real reason to get this version of the system.
I've watched so many OLED videos already in preparation for my preorder getting here, and your video has made me the most excited. I only play handheld, and can't wait to see this new screen.
i remember when i got my OLED today last year. idk why there are so much vids of nintendo OLEDs i have all the nintendos, but the OLED is awesome! definitely the best 350 USD i spent

Not sure why you keep saying the game looks more crisp? Resolution is the same, performance is the same. The differences would be a much better contrast, the colors will pop out more, and brightness.
@@bawkslawd I guess? But to me crisp means more sharp. And throughout the video he kept saying crisp in the context of sharpness so that's what I thought he was getting at. I could be wrong of course, but I thought it was a little misleading. EDIT: like at 10:25 he says the "edges are so crisp", saying that it's sharper. And after that he says the screen seems sharper like it's 1080p instead of 720p. For me, that's an interesting thing to comment on when the resolution is the same on either Switch model.
@@bawkslawd no he specifically noted that the edges were sharper which makes no sense especially in a game like botw which is known for having no anti aliasing and pretty janky edges
I guess my only real question for this switch is how do you feel about it after a week of using it compared to the original switch? I ask this because I tend to feel like something is worth it on the first day but it really sets in for me at least after a week
@@zeldie2375 depends on the Switch I would say too. I have the original (without the improved battery life) and I am strongly considering upgrading, as I play handheld 80% of the time.
@@charliefen7056 yea if you're a big handheld player and still have the original, the improved battery life and nicer screen might be worth it if you can afford it. But for someone like me who only plays docked, those factors are completely irrelevant so it wouldn't be worth upgrading. So it really depends on the person for sure
This guy srsly collects switches like their Pokémon 💀💀💀💀💀 I wish I had one but I have a feeling i might get a second hand one from eBay for Christmas 🤞🤞🤞

@@ThwipThwipBoom it actually is, Black Flag and Rogue, which are some of the only good games they've made since 2010. It's not remastered or anything unfortunately, but still great games and usually on sale as a bundle
The fact that we can CLEARLY tell that the screen is way better from the camera alone I think just proves the improvements are bigger than I thought. Like overall there’s not that many improvements but seeing that big screen and how incredible it looks, damn, I didn’t originally want the OLED but now I’m starting too. 😅 dammit Nintendo owning my wallet
i pre-ordered an oled switch because i still have the v1 switch with the worse battery life. i figured if i'm getting better battery life, a better screen, better audio, better stand, it would be worth it. seeing this video makes me even more excited!
A better screen it is not a good reason to buy the same Nintendo you already have. Hardware improvements should be the reason why you will get the OLED
I know that image retention or even burn-in can be an issue on OLED screens, but I never had any issues with my Vita's OLED screen. So hopefully the same will be true of the new Switch. Personally though, I mostly play Switch docked so I doubt I will upgrade, unless my current original model dies.
If you play in handheld mode it is a huge upgrade. I mainly play with docked to my TV but did play lots on handheld too and the Oled just looks so much nicer with bigger screen and more clear colors tbh! All the feature it has. But sadly too expensive but kinda worth it if u think about how much 32GB extra would cost and Oled screen included with bigger screen aswell also with Lan Cable in it too but ofc still expensive 😅 I'll wait for the bigger and newer upgrade of the switch to run games so much better and smoother with absolutely no lag in any game :)
This upgrade feels like it would make more sense for the Lite model. A premium OLED TV will always make any base Switch look better than in handheld mode, so to make this for the more permanent handheld model would make more sense for an “upgrade”. Not worth it in my opinion, not when I just got my wife the Animal Crossing one she’s been wanting for so long, which looks unique as is, and again, our TV will do exactly this when docked. This also has nothing to do with you Wood, not at all, I just hope to see this, but for the Lite.
I know you wish it was the white one, but im happy to see a preview video of the red/blue. Every other pre-release video if of the white one, and so it's nice to see a different one.
Personally, I would have rather waited the week to have the one that I actually ordered. Kudos to you for being positive I prolly would've been kinda pissed lol
@@ylondes9927 yeah I understand that. He was probably hype to get the video out, I was more so speaking for myself had I ordered the white one and gotten neon a week early.
@@ylondes9927 except all his competitors also just happen to find one thst fell off a truck at the same exact time. Nintendo probably sent them out to big TH-camrs. No way all of them got OLED s at same time weeks before launch.
Aren't the internals the exact same? I'd consider upgrading if there was. My switch is almost exclusively in docked mode so the OLED portion isn't a selling point for me.
Yes, they are internally identical except the internal storage is 64GB instead of 32GB, but that´s of course still expandable via a micro SD. If you have a old switch revision though (produced until round about mid 2019), you have a smaller battery. In that case, you would have round about twice as much of battery life.
Listen, I litterally had a day 1 switch. Bro it got so trashed up I was like 12. Scratches cracks discolouration overheating. I just trade it in and saved up extra for the OLED. 100% worth it.
I hope the future of handheld gaming, whether steam deck, Nintendo consoles, etc, the new standard should be OLED screens. It's just so much better to look at. Hopefully the cost to manufacture these screens goes down so it starts being used more.
Looks neat and cool but I'll stick to the normal one till next upgrade hopefully graphics wise .... but this switch is a must if your new to the system 😎
Even though the screen improved, I've been playing on the monitor more often, I still wish the Switch has some power boost, it will help a lot with 3rd party games.
Now we finally have a new Switch after all these years, hopefully they will follow up an update to introduce new/custom theme’s for our home screen!?!?! 🤞
This is because companies limit the brightness of OLEDs screens to prolong burn in, though the allow you to ignore this. This exact issue is why my phone has bad burn in. I always keep my screen at high brightness because I'm outside a lot. I used my Vita in doors mostly, so the burn in for it is minor.... though that could also be because I barely used it.
@@jandixon1867 It's a term derived from older screen technology where an image becomes permanently burned into the front of the screen. This isn't how OLED "burn-in" works. The O in OLED stands for Organic, the scientific use of the word meaning Carbon based. To over simplify the explanation, just think of every OLED micro pixel as micro sized Coals, eventually the coals will completely burn through and won't admit light like it used to. This creates the illusion of a image being stuck on screen in the locations where the OLEDs shifted color due to dimming.
I see people getting Switches in like the last year and it blows my mind. It's been out like 5 years and feels like it only became mainstream in the last 2 years.
It is a really interesting phenomenon. Especially considering there haven't been any truly major nintendo releases in that 2 years. That being said I got my switch this year lol. Couldn't pass up that sweet red model
12:32 no, you said it correctly. it's like a graphical upgrade without a graphical upgrade. they just gave us a much nicer mini TV with great speakers to play on.
honestly to me it's more of a Nintendo Switch 1.25, not quite the mid-lifetime upgrade of a "Switch Pro", which would be a "Switch 1.5", and definitely a far cry away from just being a next-gen "Switch 2.0"
Question: Does your third party Switch accessory fit the new old model? I heard the oled is slightly bigger then the og Switch with very few milimeters
No most stuff doesn't fit besides carrying cases\bags as they aren't tight fits. Any snap on cases or things that are tight fits are a no go other youtubers have tested this.
I'm glad my first Sweitch is OLED. But not just that, it's the white and gold Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom special edition. One thing that kinda dissappoints, though, but not a deal killer, is it doesn't have streaming apps. Granted my iPad can, but rather take just one device with me.
A solution for nailbiters like me who have trouble with opening the gamecard slot is to just use a toothpick, you can slide it in the opening and open it softly without scratching anything
I like how everyone was hating on it and now they see why Nintendo released it. I definitely think it’s worth the upgrade for people who mainly play in handheld mode like myself. The first game I played on my OLED was Octopath Traveler and was blown away. Definitely worth the purchase. I would’ve traded in my 2nd Gen original switch and switch lite but, idk. I want to keep them now for memory sake.
Bruh at Harvey Norman in Australia there were like 50 of them just sitting in a box, open to the public, in the middle of the store. I’ve never thought of being a thief but damn it was tempting.
I feel like you're way too excited for what the OLED-Switch actually offers. If I hadn't a switch already, I might consider buying it, definitely. But upgrading for another 350€? Nah, I'll pass. It's nice, all things considered, sure, but it just doesn't feel like a worthy successor to me.
It’s not a successor, just a screen upgrade with little improvements, hence why it’s only $50 (usd) more. He’s obv hype cause switch and game related content is how he makes a living
But you would sell your current Switch console for 250, offsetting the cost of the newer one. However, if you mainly play it in docked mode like me , it’s not worth it.
Watching this in March 2022 after finally upgrading. I had this preordered originally but never picked it up. Now got it easily on Amazon and it’s honestly a big step up. I should have picked it up when it first came out. It really does feel like a next gen console (if playing handheld).

@@MrBankalicious I agree that's what he said, I just don't know why he kept saying crisp.
@@bawkslawd no he specifically noted that the edges were sharper which makes no sense especially in a game like botw which is known for having no anti aliasing and pretty janky edges
Ori and the Will of the Wisps would be the perfect game to test out the new screen
O yeah that game would definitely benefit from a Oled screen!
plus hades.
True!Though I^d like to know if a game like Doom Eternal looks better on it as well.
"I JUST GOT THIS PACKAGE"
Right...that lucky basterd haha.
@Joel Johnson It isn't for everyone.
‘’ Explodes”
‘’ Explodes”
@Joel Johnson not for me i onlye play in hand mode.
Sold old v1 for very good price and do same for V2 who i got now
I recently bought the OLED and I’m disappointed.. that I didn’t buy it earlier, it’s dope! :)
That looks so crisp and beautifull I'm totally sold ... just hit Pre-order for white one
Was gonna leave it but now I'm so hyped
Ugh. You’re making me wanna upgrade when I didn’t really wanna upgrade 😣
I guess my only real question for this switch is how do you feel about it after a week of using it compared to the original switch? I ask this because I tend to feel like something is worth it on the first day but it really sets in for me at least after a week
Better colors pretty much it lol
There’s no point in getting it if you have a normal Switch
@@zeldie2375 there is a point but it’s your choice whether you think the upgrades worth it
@@zeldie2375 depends on the Switch I would say too.
I'm seeing all of the awesome people getting their OLED Switch and I'm just waiting for Walmart to ship it out
Mine says October 11th . I’m mad
Same. Getting one from Best Buy
Just a couple of days now brother its worth the wait lol the hype is growing
Why are so many people getting it early? My store in Australia won't budge...
This guy srsly collects switches like their Pokémon 💀💀💀💀💀 I wish I had one but I have a feeling i might get a second hand one from eBay for Christmas 🤞🤞🤞
Good luck!
As a dedicated handheld player who got a switch lite because of that fact… I’m drooling. Ugh that screen! Those colors! Glass!!! It’s so beautiful
the video you made 2 months ago giving your honest thoughts on the switch really was spot on for how this video was gonna go. Anyway can't wait for switch pro lol.
That oled screen is a much bigger improvement than I thought it would be.
The screen is just stunning, and that kickstand.... goodbye to searching lots of aliexpress stands
Woods positivity could bring light into the darkest depths of the devil's bunghole ❤️
I'm so proud to say you were my first oled unboxing 💗
Show us how AC looks. Bet it'll make for a great experience since the game is already so colourful.
Assassins Creed is on the Switch? Wtf
@@ThwipThwipBoom it actually is, Black Flag and Rogue, which are some of the only good games they've made since 2010. It's not remastered or anything unfortunately, but still great games and usually on sale as a bundle
@@cjgreen4331 there's also 3, in a weird version which got all the features from the remastered version except for the graphics from 2012.
The coolest thing about this is the back stand. Oh, and the packaging.
Though, to be fair, I play the switch on tv more.
Same. I'm glad I didn't get the OLED.... There's times when I use handheld mode, but not enough to make it worth the money
They aren’t bigger though. It’s literally just the screen and the stand.
@@michall6376 better sound system as well
@@michall6376 not sure what they mean by upgraded speakers maybe they are same size but higher quality?
A better screen it is not a good reason to buy the same Nintendo you already have. Hardware improvements should be the reason why you will get the OLED
I know that image retention or even burn-in can be an issue on OLED screens, but I never had any issues with my Vita's OLED screen. So hopefully the same will be true of the new Switch.
Personally though, I mostly play Switch docked so I doubt I will upgrade, unless my current original model dies.
Calling that a kickstand is an insult, it’s so much more
Nah calling the old Switch‘s kickstand a kickstand is an insult, it’s not worthy of the title
you can see the sheer excitement in his eyes!, its like a 5y/o on Christmas!
If you play in handheld mode it is a huge upgrade. I mainly play with docked to my TV but did play lots on handheld too and the Oled just looks so much nicer with bigger screen and more clear colors tbh! All the feature it has. But sadly too expensive but kinda worth it if u think about how much 32GB extra would cost and Oled screen included with bigger screen aswell also with Lan Cable in it too but ofc still expensive 😅
I'll wait for the bigger and newer upgrade of the switch to run games so much better and smoother with absolutely no lag in any game :)
Just got an oled after not having a switch for over a year and I've been immediately blown away In all aspects
Its different when youre a content creator, he has a HUGE advantage over his 'Competitor's'
We all know wood is the type to collect them all lol
@@ylondes9927 yeah I understand that. He was probably hype to get the video out, I was more so speaking for myself had I ordered the white one and gotten neon a week early.
@@ylondes9927 except all his competitors also just happen to find one thst fell off a truck at the same exact time. Nintendo probably sent them out to big TH-camrs. No way all of them got OLED s at same time weeks before launch.
Aren't the internals the exact same? I'd consider upgrading if there was. My switch is almost exclusively in docked mode so the OLED portion isn't a selling point for me.
The only difference internally is the 64GB internal storage instead of the standard 32GB. So not worth it for you
Yes, they are internally identical except the internal storage is 64GB instead of 32GB, but that´s of course still expandable via a micro SD.
@@malekhidar1267 Supposedly the 2019 revision (red box) has fewer chances of cracking and overheats less
Exactly. My switch stays in the dock unless I’m playing **competitive** smash. But 95% of the time it’s docked
The crazy part for me is that the battery life lasts longer despite the larger and more impressive screen. It's just so nice!
Wood is giving me Crocodile Dun Dee vibes. "You call that a Switch?. This...is a Switch." Lol XD
I hope the future of handheld gaming, whether steam deck, Nintendo consoles, etc, the new standard should be OLED screens. It's just so much better to look at. Hopefully the cost to manufacture these screens goes down so it starts being used more.
I got mine almost a week ago xD thanks to black stores in Abu Dhabi
I'd be nice if you can try Splatoon 2 on the OLED model. The game has so many bright colors, I wonder how it'll look with the new switch
Looks neat and cool but I'll stick to the normal one till next upgrade hopefully graphics wise .... but this switch is a must if your new to the system 😎
Can't wait to watch your video in a few months about the screen burn issue!
Even though the screen improved, I've been playing on the monitor more often, I still wish the Switch has some power boost, it will help a lot with 3rd party games.
Everytime I see Wood being hyped about stuff like this I am also SO hyped I wanna buy this stuff too xD!!
Now we finally have a new Switch after all these years, hopefully they will follow up an update to introduce new/custom theme’s for our home screen!?!?! 🤞
I have only one question. How does it look outside? I've heard Oled screens have trouble with sunlight and I actually travel with my Switch.
I would like to know this too actually.
Erm I don't imagine it would be any worse outside than a crappy LCD? Nothing is good in sunlight unfortunately
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 Sorry, what do you mean by burning your screen?
Awesome! I'm guessing I am getting mine by 2023, thanks scalpers!
Same :)
Thats probably for the best TBH, the actual Switch 2 could be out by then.
The Nintendo Switch OLED feels like it's the Nintendo Switch 1.5
honestly to me it's more of a Nintendo Switch 1.25, not quite the mid-lifetime upgrade of a "Switch Pro", which would be a "Switch 1.5", and definitely a far cry away from just being a next-gen "Switch 2.0"
@@malazan6004 yeah I saw Kevin test the satisfied grip it almost didn’t fit
That transition to the sponser got me so good
I actually never seen a regular black Oled switch model I like the white too
Can you imagine Genshin Impact on the OLED version!! It would be so gorgeous honestly
Man
I doubt Genshin Impact will ever come to Switch, it's been more than a year since they announced it being ported over and still nothing
@@didi7074 I feel the same way, but I'm keeping my hopes one day it will get the import haha

Q for the follow up: What accessories from the old models are compatible with the oled? Are we going to have to wait for oled specific accessories?
So for everyone that has been playing with the old switch docked on an OLED TV, this is no different at all?
Thats the point. If you have a Oled Switch you dont need a 1000$+ Oled Tv.
@@orvoloco8261 I suppose, this is the equivalent of getting a new monitor for your PC. Exactly the same graphics but just a bigger better screen.
@@skytwin8047 So you dont even have a Switch ?
I'm glad my first Sweitch is OLED. But not just that, it's the white and gold Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom special edition. One thing that kinda dissappoints, though, but not a deal killer, is it doesn't have streaming apps. Granted my iPad can, but rather take just one device with me.
A solution for nailbiters like me who have trouble with opening the gamecard slot is to just use a toothpick, you can slide it in the opening and open it softly without scratching anything
the og switch doesnt have a glass screen , it has a plastic screen i believe
Yeah but the oled one is glass
So are we just going to ignore how ripped Wood is now?
Yeah he’s body goals
He’s always been ripped dude,
? He just like normaal guy
The editing of fading from the original Switch to the Oled was just👌🏼😦
Clever sponsor bit! I can't even be mad with that. You've been getting real creative with the sponsors.
I tried playing MK 11 yesterday in hand-held and it's nearly impossible. I wonder if it's better on the OLED
Of course, it is consoomer. Just Drop $350 USD to find out.
Yeah it should be better
performance will be exactly the same
Mk 11 runs ok on mine .. granted better on ps an xbox
I should’ve waited for the oled 😔
I just poopoo
Hi Mr. Beatemups,
Had a quick question for you. Does cloud gaming look better On the OLED? Does it look less “stream-ing” looking ? Thanks.
One of the best TH-camrs on the platform man. You deserve all those donations, and don’t let the haters say you don’t.
Bruh at Harvey Norman in Australia there were like 50 of them just sitting in a box, open to the public, in the middle of the store. I’ve never thought of being a thief but damn it was tempting.
THIS IS MADNESS
BECAUSE IT ISNT A SUCCESSOR WHEN WILL YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND
Tbh I’d be mad getting the wrong color
Watching this in March 2022 after finally upgrading. I had this preordered originally but never picked it up. Now got it easily on Amazon and it’s honestly a big step up. I should have picked it up when it first came out. It really does feel like a next gen console (if playing handheld).
I’m so excited for my Nintendo switch!!!
I’ve never had a gaming console so this is really my first gaming thing besides my 12 year old GameCube
