The Japanese Ho-Ri prototype tank destroyer used to be one of my favorite ground vehicles in War Thunder, but it now sits at a battle rating of 6.7 in realistic. There, the Ho-Ri doesn't do anything well. It isn't tough, fast, or even punchy. Considering the German Jagdpanther is 6.0, I don't think Gaijin should keep this at 6.7.

You should have played ho-ri production instead. It's a much faster tank and armor still works fine

@@bickboose9364 Most US CAS I’ve seen do. If you see a bunch of fighters, they don’t. But at the same time, we all expect to lose anyways because of the whole 78% loss rate thing, so we might as well get at least SOME satisfaction out of it.

The Ho Ri existed....on paper. The way its portrayed in WT is complete fiction, and the wooden mockup picture was also proven fake.
I'm just going to assume every new tank they add is complete b*******

That is very likely. I know he said it is weak around the gun, and it you look at the armour and in the protection analysis it is, but it seems like 80% of the rounds I shoot there wither non-pen or just stop existing! Even when I end up fighting them with Centurion mk3 firing APDS and they still non-pen!
Yes. I have been in this situation and died before because THREE SHOTS just disintegrated. Followed up by him shooting straight through my historically inaccurate upper front plate which should have 300 mm of armor rather than the 75 MM IT HAS.
@@commandoepsilon4664 yeah, I almost find it funny that this tank has a poor reputation, but my experience fighting against them had been the opposite. Most of my kills have been in the side or rear, rarely from the front thanks to volumetric.
I swear volumetric is the cause of most of my anger, on top of fighting against tanks with better tech that I hate playing anything above 7.0.
The Hori is surprisingly a tough nut to crack in hulldown positions. Even with a Leopard 1's HEAT or T44-100/T-54s, it is difficult to properly hit it critically if you don't aim properly

I like the little edited parts where you add in the voices or visuals to your gameplay. It gives your videos a good dynamic of comedic relief and you use them well. Doesn’t feel like a meme video with warthunder gameplay as a background.

I get upset at folks saying this should be removed. I get it didn't exist but it could have and it works in WT to give unique vehicles to a niche nation. It's not like it's annoying to deal with either since it got shunted SO high in BR.

Please play the CA Lorraine or AMX 10RC, both are fun vehicles, especially the Lorraine, it’s faster than the Lorraine 40T at a much lower battle rating with the same cannon

Yeah, the gun on the Lorraine plus its speed is amazing. In competent hands it can literally destroy half the team.

Not really, even with a semi decent crew the reload is sub 10 seconds which for 273 mm of pen and a ton of shrapnel is really nice, plus a high reverse speed sort of nullifies it

Back when the French first came in and they un-nerfed solid shot to a reasonable extent I liked the CA Lorraine, but I guess the German players bitched enough that they re-nerfed solid. And with a high chance of not killing with a single shot CALorraines reload time is a recipe for frustration.
I actually quite enjoy the Ho-Ri. Its painful a lot of the time, but since it relies on people being stupid and not shooting your superstructure, it sometimes works.

One of the problems of Japan is that if we start taking away 'paper' or fake shit we're left with very few things.
Hell, for the Japanese air tree I woudn't be agains the addition of the J7W2 (i.e. Jet Shinden, blueprint existed but never made) simply because the idea existed and the Japanese trees need more stuff on them.
the way this is "fake" is the armour layout (and that stupid hatch allowing more gun depression) and engine specs are completely made-up, the design itself does exist but thats not the problem
The better solution would be not making them an independent tech tree.
The J7W1 is in the game.
@@naamadossantossilva4736 I strongly disagree. Japan was one of the big 3 axis powers in WW2 and produced many aircraft and ships. You can't remove a whole nation just because of the ground tree.

The Ho-Ri Production is legit one of my favorite tanks in the game. However I stopped playing it when the repair cost got up to like 10k.
It used to be a 20k repair cost. That was truly horrific.

Especially when you are at 7.3 and get an uptier it's atgm hell so you lose 10k instantly. Although I have had rounds where I've eaten 9 atgms and still survived, those two plates of spaced armor serve wonders if you are front facing someone and get penned

You should play the Italian M41M 90/53. Weird chassis but the gun is simply a joy to shoot.
I second this, the low shell count makes it challenging but it's 90mm shell has an absurd 520g of aphe explosive filler at 3.7, so anything you pen just lights up like a roman candle
@@Aurora-pi6jr it also has surprisingly good survivability because of small size and the crew separation...plus, the gunner is on the opposite side of most tanks so I found that most of the time they shot the wrong crewmember
I love playing it. I get kick out of how far the chassis will scoot if you fire at an angle

For an extremely open top vehicle, its does extremely well, even in near CQC of cities, 120mm naval Cannon just slaps anything out of existance, only thing to cause me any major trouble was KV-1
Machine gun fire is more dangerous than actual cannon fire for the Chi-Ha LG.
I just love hearing audio and the music from Command & Conquer Generals it was the first game I ever played so it has a special place in my heart
The "Production" version is one of my favorite tanks in the game, quick good gun good armor the only thing that stopped the fun for me was the repair cost 20k was absurd
I think it should be 6.7 or 7.0 but they at least lowered it to around 9-10k for repair
I stopped playing it when I’d get a negative reward for a win if I died that game with mid to low score performance. Mostly I just play early-war , tier 1 premiums, or BR 8.0+ with my AH-1S Kisazaru for CAS
@Aurora Nah, it's perfectly fine where it is at 7.3. The prototype, on the other hand, feels like it should be lower
Would love to see you do a video on the T29, I remember it being unbelievably strong upon release due to a plate that separated the driver etc to the ammo. Would enjoy seeing if it being 7.0 was deserved
I've got fond memories of the Ho-Ri production on release, coming in right around peak IS-6/906 spam. Bumrushing IS-6's who struggled to pen you and cupola sniping them was a great way to make clubbers lose their shit.

I just gotta say while playing this in the background I expected to finish this entire video before my match ended. I was being tag teamed by four Ta-152's and just as I was about to die the mission ended. Apparently our B-17 JP, G5N, and G8N bum rushed through a whole squadron and got their bombs off on the bases and airfield. If you're out there, you gentlemen deserve a drink on me.

Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).
Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.

The spot you're looking towards at 11:30 seems to be a hotspot for that rendering glitch. I have had that happen 2 times in the last week.
Ive been noticing a LOT of people rendering in and out when you clearly have a sight-line on them. Its been insane lately...
Great gameplay.
Part of it is your crew’s visual range skill and how much unrendered things are between you and the tank. Smoke screens will also cause a tank to not render in at longer distances
@@alexlongfur2515 I've had it where the smoke Id launched dissipated and not but 3 seconds later a squad of 3 pop rendered in about 50 meters away. I'm not sure if that has something to do with the keen vision skills but its a bit scummy for my experience haha

I love this stupid spotting thing. I've literally been murdered multiple times by people I should've had an easy kill on because they were sitting behind some object that made them invisible when they shouldn't have been. Been killed by a light tank sitting behind a chainlink fence, and even a Tiger sitting behind a LAMP POST.

Never played the Prototype, but the Production is incredible, IDK why but apparently 200g is enough to overpressure anything. If you look at the destruction cam it literally overpressures crew from the inside. you can shoot almost anywhere in most vehicles and the entire crew will die.

I wonder why gajin went with this version of the ho-ri despite the fact that had the ho-ri been produced, they would probably have gone for the ho-ri ii design (it looked more like a jagdtiger and also features dual 20mms on the engine deck).

1:19 The closest thing ive had happen to me like that was waaaaay back, maybe 2014-2016, i was in I think the Jadpanzer IV, had a kv-2 ricochet off my angled front plate, the shell flew up about a meter, air bursted, and killed me. I'm pretty sure this was before overpressure or even hull break was a thing too.

In the before times, you could use HE on the turret face of a maus to set it's engine on fire. Used to work 40% of the time with the sherman 105mm.

in my opinion, the ho-ri production's situation is like the maus. it gets so much powerful at 6.3-7.0 but it also gets severe backpain when it gets into 7.7-8.3 battles ( o____0)

They were apparently quite good tanks, since they served in Chile until 1988.

You should play the DF105. It's way too survivable for what it is from my experience playing it and it is ridiculously stable for a tank that has no stabilizer.
I wouldnt say that it’s ridiculously stable, but its a 400mm pen heatfs round on a fast chassis with a 5 second reload. Very good tank indeed
The thing I personally like about both Ho-Ri that its fast (for something that weight 60+ tons). It was straight away OP at 6.0 but I think 6.7 is a bit too much

You should play the IS2(1944) .Another tank with alot of HE filler that it will one shot anything and overpressure anything even heavy tanks when you hit the barrel is the IS(1944)/ IS2 no 32, really good heavy tank and the 1944 is my personal favourite tank I got more than 2200 kills with the IS2(1944).
Also you can pen the gap underneath the mantlet and UFP of the M103.
But the reload is a killer
I love the Ho Ri Prototype. It’s gotten me one of my only two nukes ever in an 18-kill ground RB game. Insanity.
6.7 is too high for it, but with a maxed Ace crew, I still do work with it.
I love how he says the tank isnt capable in alot of aspects but continues to prove otherwise during his gameplay, this goes for everything he complains about
Could you play the M-51? It’s not the best but it can get the job done
I dont rly get why gaijin is not implementing paper tanks anymore. Those unic projects can make the game more interesting and diverse, in terms of the gameplay experience. Plus you can balance those things as you wish due to the fact, that it never existed

The Coelian, Tiger II 105 and Panther II get removed for being fake, yet this is perfectly fine

To be fair the german tech tree is doing just fine without them, as its a major tech tree with a metric shit load of vehicles, it really doesnt need them, japan on the other hand would lose one of its few 7.0 line up pieces and would have a huge fucking gap between the sph and the type 16p, even with the ho ri its still bad but god a fucking 6.3 to 8.7 jump, nah screw that.

I do love my Ho-Ri Proto... and being 105 the HE is actually useful for more than just open vehicles. I also find people don't know enough about them to know that the most outside of the flat armour is the weakest, if they shoot closer to the middle it gets thicker and thicker.
Seeing as you face it so much in this video, would love to see you play the US T34, or if you prefer otherwise also want the M103 with solid shot used.

The advantage of having 1/3 of crew members in front of tank, so even if your 4 members were turned into mashed potatoes by APHE from behind, you can still fight back... poorly.

Spook, the issue with that t34 is that he has 4.0-6.7 trauma as an American tanker, you're used to having to shoot cannon barrels, tracks, and breaches, as most of them have a lot of trouble fighting Germany's 4 Panther, 3 Tiger I, and 3 Tiger II loadouts with some of the best anti-air able to kill most of their tanks frontal. Not to mention the German weeaboo JU-87 spam right after you dump 9 rounds into a Tiger I before killing them from the front with an apcr round. Literally shot through a Tiger I ab 10 times and it would not kill him whatsoever, every round penetrating, but he somehow penned through the most insane front angle on my Jumbo. Classy

I've been waiting for this video for a while, thanks Spookston for finally making it. This pretty much encapsulates the Ho-Ri Proto in a nutshell and I'm sad its at 6.7 since its the only thing I used to play religiously for tanks. Now i just enjoy navy before gaijin ruins it further.

For targets that the shell won’t fuse on it can work to go for breech or transmission shots
If you are going to continue playing (or suffering with) tank destroyers, may be Sturer Emil or Dicker max next? Quite interesting vehicles at least in my experience
