I am the happy owner of a beautiful guitar she made! She is a lovely human being, and her work is exquisite. I met her at her father's shop when my middle child and I were making a documentary on the music culture in SW Va. We had a blast talking with them, and the conversation made for a sweet piece of the eventual film.

I enjoyed this a lot. It was so interesting to hear a young luthier on the topic of sustainability. It's so important.

I totally agree with her opinion on dreadnaughts. I am a man and love the curves of an OM. Great questions by the interviewer and I enjoyed her thoughts

i don't know why but i don't like (the look) of dreadnoughts either, i much prefer the J45 shape and i have a couple of OOO and OM's, having said that a friend has a larrivee dreadnought (i forget the model) rosewood / spruce and it's the sweetest fingerstyle guitar ever.

What about what I have heard, that not every tree is a guitar tree ??? In refference to any type of wood.

i find martin owners to be snobby, they really get entrenched in how great martins are. i was thinking about a round the world trip (never happened) but i started looking into travel guitars which lead me to composite guitars. i've had 50-60 guitars since 2013 and my "keepers" include a 66 j45 i got in the 70's, a 69 epiphone texan, larrivee, maton and other gibsons, but what blows them all away is my martin OOOX1 - an ugly little guitar, back and sides made from HPL, which i'm still not sure what that means, high pressure laminate, but it looks like plastic kitchen worktop, but boy does it sound good, £350 with a case and blows all my other guitars away, so i''m not sure wood is the "best" material to make guitars from...

Harry, you don't sound snobby at all---yet you own a Martin!

Saddens me to see a contemporary luthier using Ivory. Especially one who talks at length about environmental issues and sustainability.

Sadly, it appears that you may have drunk too much of the eco kool-aid. Ivory can be, and is, responsibly sourced from beach found walrus tusk. And there are other sources from Africa that don't involve the illegal trade in elephant ivory. But please enjoy your plastic bridge saddle or nut just don't expect the same tonal qualities.

Please read my response in it's entirety. You have been totally duped. You really need to do some serious research before taking a specific position AGAINST the use of ivory. ALL of the following are THE FACTS: Sorry I can't recall the name of the website, but it has EXTENSIVE reports, statements, and interviews with the biologists and game wardens who study and look after the well-being & proliferation of African elephants. These people are the closest to these elephants and NOBODY loves or cares about them more than these people do. AND THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD-SET AGAINST AN ALL-OUT "IVORY BAN". For starters, an all-out ivory ban would cause the Chinese black market to explode. Secondly: there are huge stockpiles of whole elephant ivory tusks around the world that are CITES certified.......tons and TONS of it, that are close to, or even over a hundred years old. ALL "new ivory" products you see today comes from one of those many huge stockpiles. With all of this LEGAL CITES CERTIFIED ivory available, why would anyone want to take the risk of dealing with, or owning any ivory sold on the black market. If all of this legal ivory were to be seized & pulverized, the black market would explode like never before. Furthermore: and this information comes straight from those who care for & protect the African elephants: Elephants die like all creatures, they die of old age, they often get struck by lightning, they die from drought, fighting, disease, etc, etc. And the biologists & game wardens DEPEND on the ivory tusks from these recently deceased elephants to sell IN ORDER TO ALLOCATE THE FUNDS FOR CONTINUED CARE & PROTECTION. In these modern times, the single biggest threat to African elephants is LAND ENCROACHMENT..............NOT "poaching". Corrupt African governments allow large land developers to transform land into farms, new towns, factories, etc........that border right next to the elephant sanctuaries. Some of the elephants are attracted to the cash crops & other food sources on these developed lands, and when they cross over, they are shot. THIS is what you should be against. Lastly: here in the US, the leftist/socialists led by the "oBaMa" administration ( his real name is BARRY SOETARO.....look it up ) pulled their wicked political stunt of "banning ALL ivory" in every leftist/socialist controlled state. They ILLEGALLY seized 6 tons of LEGAL CITES certified ivory warehoused here in the US, and pulverized it into dust. Next, oBaMa's federal goons hit every antique store in every leftist/socialist controlled city such as New York, Chicago, etc, and RAIDED & ARRESTED the owners ( many were senior citizens ) of these SMALL FAMILY OWNED antique stores because they happened to have several ANTIQUES made of ivory. They shut their little antique stores completely down, putting them totally out of business. They also seized their bank accounts, making it nearly impossible for these INNOCENT VICTIMS to defend themselves in court. So this "ivory ban" in the US is nothing more than a wicked scam/agenda to make war AGAINST THE PEOPLE........just like the "global warming/climate change" scam aimed at severely thwarting OUR RIGHT TO FREELY TRAVEL. Continuous volcanic activity and the vast swamps & sea grass beds continuously bilge FAR MORE carbons into the atmosphere IN A SINGLE DAY vs ALL man-made carbons combined throughout our entire industrial history. The mining for lithium ( to make the batteries for electric vehicles) is by far the most environmentally destructive endeavor in human history. By the way: the Earth continues to produce oil. Scientists have no idea how or why. Oil wells in Texas and Missouri for example, that were pumped dry back in the 50's are now producing oil again. BUT CORRUPT GOVERNMENT & THEIR LAPDOG MEDIA DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ANY OF THE ABOVE. So please......get yourself educated & informed. I am NOT "a republican".......I don't trust or support any of those crooks. But absolutely nothing is as bad as the modern day leftist/socialist.
