Just bought an Alvarez all walnut folk om. Sounds great. Stay safe.Peace
Congratulations, Jayne. I love people who think outside the box.
I love jayne awareness & honesty & beautiful art / instruments ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Went to a seminar by Wayne and his daughter. Such a great time. She makes wonderful instruments and such a good attitude! OM all the way!!
Great interview!
OSAGE is also known as "orange wood".
What about what I have heard, that not every tree is a guitar tree ??? In refference to any type of wood.
Today it,s the end of april -24. Just had a look at TFOA in Netherlands. There was a Matsuda thing, for some 27500 €!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made of scrapwoods. All I have to say, it,s a crazy world. These are more an experiment of trying to make guitars. What crazy person, will pay that amount of money, for a thing that does not look like a guitar. Disgusting.
Late to the Iris party. Have a local dealer. I hope to snag the next DF that comes in. Very cool. Keep it up.
Wow - those tool boxes !
Same idiots that are intensely involved in protecting trees are the same people that are pushing and endorsing abortion. Priorities.
Great interview
Sorry guys this is not the way to sell your product. Stupid time waisting character. And real crappy audio. Just let some one play the thing
Hi there Rosie, my name is Barry Ducret, I have made guitars for 59 years. My approach to guitars has been one of "do it in a different way from the regular guitar makers" and see if it works. Fortunately I have had some success doing it this way. The main difference I have made guitars using has been making the guitars with the grain on the top of the guitar going from side to side and not in the direction of the strings. Now I know you will think that this cant work due to the grain not having any strength in this direction, however it does have enough strength because it has the struts traveling in the direction of the strain of the strings, leaving the sound board to carry the vibrations of the strings from side to side of the guitar, which it has quite enough strength to carry. If it interests you then you can hear one of my guitars being played if you go to "josua gone Barbados played and sung by Charlie Watts of Frayed knott". But not the Rolling Stones unfortunately. And there you will find that he has bought three of my guitars that I made some 40 or 50 years ago. Unfortunately since I now suffer from parkinsons dissease I have had to give up making guitars since falling down and a sircular saw don't really go together. I used to make one guitar a week when I was making them as a living. If any of this has been of interest to you then please get in touch, I would love to meet a guitar maker that is starting out and have a chin wag since there were very little other guitar makers around when I started out. Oh I should have mentioned that I never had lessons on how guitars are made and worked everything out by myself having been an Art student that specialised in Sculpture at Ravensbourne college of Art and Design when it was in Bromley, my address is no. 32a Cloisters avenue, Bromley, Kent br28aw. Hoping to see you, from Barry Ducret.
Michihiro is a legend, Really great to hear this long-form interview
the cocobolo body in the spray booth absolutely beautiful looking ,the binding and colour of the wood ,gorgeous ,quality work
Ben is an awesome guy. If there is something he sets his mind to doing, he’ll make it happen.
CDT..Craft , Design, technology...no clue how I remembered that when I can't remember what I had for breakfast!!
Really inspiring work from Mr Chau. Fantastic stuff
Whole re-fret and fret dress in 30 minutes? Wowee....
Saddens me to see a contemporary luthier using Ivory. Especially one who talks at length about environmental issues and sustainability.
Sadly, it appears that you may have drunk too much of the eco kool-aid. Ivory can be, and is, responsibly sourced from beach found walrus tusk. And there are other sources from Africa that don't involve the illegal trade in elephant ivory. But please enjoy your plastic bridge saddle or nut just don't expect the same tonal qualities.
Please read my response in it's entirety. You have been totally duped. You really need to do some serious research before taking a specific position AGAINST the use of ivory. ALL of the following are THE FACTS: Sorry I can't recall the name of the website, but it has EXTENSIVE reports, statements, and interviews with the biologists and game wardens who study and look after the well-being & proliferation of African elephants. These people are the closest to these elephants and NOBODY loves or cares about them more than these people do. AND THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD-SET AGAINST AN ALL-OUT "IVORY BAN". For starters, an all-out ivory ban would cause the Chinese black market to explode. Secondly: there are huge stockpiles of whole elephant ivory tusks around the world that are CITES certified.......tons and TONS of it, that are close to, or even over a hundred years old. ALL "new ivory" products you see today comes from one of those many huge stockpiles. With all of this LEGAL CITES CERTIFIED ivory available, why would anyone want to take the risk of dealing with, or owning any ivory sold on the black market. If all of this legal ivory were to be seized & pulverized, the black market would explode like never before. Furthermore: and this information comes straight from those who care for & protect the African elephants: Elephants die like all creatures, they die of old age, they often get struck by lightning, they die from drought, fighting, disease, etc, etc. And the biologists & game wardens DEPEND on the ivory tusks from these recently deceased elephants to sell IN ORDER TO ALLOCATE THE FUNDS FOR CONTINUED CARE & PROTECTION. In these modern times, the single biggest threat to African elephants is LAND ENCROACHMENT..............NOT "poaching". Corrupt African governments allow large land developers to transform land into farms, new towns, factories, etc........that border right next to the elephant sanctuaries. Some of the elephants are attracted to the cash crops & other food sources on these developed lands, and when they cross over, they are shot. THIS is what you should be against. Lastly: here in the US, the leftist/socialists led by the "oBaMa" administration ( his real name is BARRY SOETARO.....look it up ) pulled their wicked political stunt of "banning ALL ivory" in every leftist/socialist controlled state. They ILLEGALLY seized 6 tons of LEGAL CITES certified ivory warehoused here in the US, and pulverized it into dust. Next, oBaMa's federal goons hit every antique store in every leftist/socialist controlled city such as New York, Chicago, etc, and RAIDED & ARRESTED the owners ( many were senior citizens ) of these SMALL FAMILY OWNED antique stores because they happened to have several ANTIQUES made of ivory. They shut their little antique stores completely down, putting them totally out of business. They also seized their bank accounts, making it nearly impossible for these INNOCENT VICTIMS to defend themselves in court. So this "ivory ban" in the US is nothing more than a wicked scam/agenda to make war AGAINST THE PEOPLE........just like the "global warming/climate change" scam aimed at severely thwarting OUR RIGHT TO FREELY TRAVEL. Continuous volcanic activity and the vast swamps & sea grass beds continuously bilge FAR MORE carbons into the atmosphere IN A SINGLE DAY vs ALL man-made carbons combined throughout our entire industrial history. The mining for lithium ( to make the batteries for electric vehicles) is by far the most environmentally destructive endeavor in human history. By the way: the Earth continues to produce oil. Scientists have no idea how or why. Oil wells in Texas and Missouri for example, that were pumped dry back in the 50's are now producing oil again. BUT CORRUPT GOVERNMENT & THEIR LAPDOG MEDIA DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ANY OF THE ABOVE. So please......get yourself educated & informed. I am NOT "a republican".......I don't trust or support any of those crooks. But absolutely nothing is as bad as the modern day leftist/socialist.
Why? She repurposed it.
Cry baby
How many times does the cameraman say, 'mm, hmm'? He sounds totally uninterested.
Thanks for having us! 👍
What a great interview.
This is one of the sanest talks about guitars I've heard in quite some time. I've been touting padouk for a long time, so I'm happy to have corroboration from a big-time builder.
Absolutely stirling interview with such a talented luthier. Getting a guitar from Nightingale guitars was one of the best decisions I've made. Would truely recommend a guitar investment with this fine craftsman.
Hi Rosie - always a pleasure to see your stuff and hear your ideas. Cheers, Rob
This is awesome 🎸
I enjoyed this a lot. It was so interesting to hear a young luthier on the topic of sustainability. It's so important.
great interview btw.
i find martin owners to be snobby, they really get entrenched in how great martins are. i was thinking about a round the world trip (never happened) but i started looking into travel guitars which lead me to composite guitars. i've had 50-60 guitars since 2013 and my "keepers" include a 66 j45 i got in the 70's, a 69 epiphone texan, larrivee, maton and other gibsons, but what blows them all away is my martin OOOX1 - an ugly little guitar, back and sides made from HPL, which i'm still not sure what that means, high pressure laminate, but it looks like plastic kitchen worktop, but boy does it sound good, £350 with a case and blows all my other guitars away, so i''m not sure wood is the "best" material to make guitars from...
Harry, you don't sound snobby at all---yet you own a Martin!
I own an old Atkin , awesome guitars .....and a very nice guy
I am the happy owner of a beautiful guitar she made! She is a lovely human being, and her work is exquisite. I met her at her father's shop when my middle child and I were making a documentary on the music culture in SW Va. We had a blast talking with them, and the conversation made for a sweet piece of the eventual film.
Would've been great to have a good microphone on those guitars
Seriously we have to see the cartoon every time you talk? Geez.
where is Bryan's shop located
Great episode - really informative.
Thanks Leo! We hope to bring you more over the next year!
Your dad should be awfully proud of the amazing woman he helped raise.
Jayne is a treasure. I so enjoyed this interview, and much respect to her for blazing her own trail.
I totally agree with her opinion on dreadnaughts. I am a man and love the curves of an OM. Great questions by the interviewer and I enjoyed her thoughts
i don't know why but i don't like (the look) of dreadnoughts either, i much prefer the J45 shape and i have a couple of OOO and OM's, having said that a friend has a larrivee dreadnought (i forget the model) rosewood / spruce and it's the sweetest fingerstyle guitar ever.
What a shop!
Thanks Terrance, for sharing this great tour/interview with Bryan. It was a nice reminder of the tour he gave me a couple months back during a visit. Amazing school and shop.
Good job, Rosie.
Thank you for this video.
Very interesting. There's no reason why anyone shouldn't have a mild multiscale - unless an extreme practitioner of DADGAD.
Thanks Andy! Actually I find multiscales to be particularly useful in dropped tunings where the length of the bass strings help to avoid floppiness!
@@guitarbench2395 Agreed - I am a convert! My main guitar is a fan fret - OM sclae on the treble and a bit extra on hte bass to facilitate C tunings. I'm sure I will use this system again if commissioning another guitar!
👍
Terence makes it easy with his relaxed style
Thanks Fred!
Excellent video Terence and Fred!
Thanks a lot Dennis, we should speak too!
Very good video and very good looking guitar! Keep up your amazing work! :)
Glad you enjoyed it, your comment means a lot!
