What it would be to own a meticulous , beautiful handcrafted mandolin or a guutar by such a very wonderful humble person as Wayne Henderson. A treasure to behold in your hands...priceless !!!!

Wayne Henderson makes the finest instruments in the world today. He's the modern day Antonio Stradivari.

I have a 1979 Henderson mandolin #33, which is a copy of a Lloyd Loar 1922 F5 instrument. I recently had the chance to play a Loar F5 from the early 1920's. The 2 mandolins sounded so much alike it was shocking. Henderson is an amazing craftsman!

I just recently joined a band called “Coal Canyon” and made my main instrument a guitar. I have to upgrade soon because we have been blessed in getting some great shows like Ralph Stanley’s festival and poppy mountain in morehead, ky. I’d like to think I could get one but … oh my!
      Dream!!!!
      And lots of prayers! 😂
What’s really cool is I know some guys that have done business with Wayne in the past in getting him some wood to build with. I’m hoping that maybe I can get an introduction soon.

I like the fact that only voices in this video are tools and instruments. Viva Wayne Henderson

Andrew Marlin from Mandolin Orange. Great player and singer. Managed to see him and Emily twice in Scotland. Can't remember what they changed their name to but think it was a mistake. They had a big following under the Mandolin Orange name and most folks I know haven't a clue what they are called now.

I play mandolin with fingerpicks myself in addition to crosspicking with a regular flatpick.
In fact, about 25 years ago at one of our bluegrass festivals, I actually had Jesse McReynolds convinced into thinking I was doing some serious crosspicking until he actually saw me using fingerpicks.
He remarked: "That's cheatin'...you really had me fooled for a minute!"
I tend to agree. Jesse McReynolds is often imitated...NEVER duplicated!
If I could play one-fourth as good as him, I'd be happy!

Thank you WAYNE ! the time honered tradition of mandolin construction of the F style, principal to the 3 main modern mandolin styles F A and O.The 19th century almost led with German euroism which featured the mandolinero which I believe was tuned in 12 pairs tripled tuned D A E B in alto fourth below A 440 G tuning. The no name Chinese F style that sells for 100.00 has a 14 inch scale!Ideal for alto tuning of D,as 19th century saw lower range tunings of guitar, mandolin and banjo, and mandolinero often in a open back banjolin form.Chris Young see Barbara Salisbury /TH-cam.

Not very common to pick the mando with fingerpicks. Wayne is not really a mandolin player. But some guys I know up in the mountains would play mando with fingerpicks like Gerald Anderson (fine luthier and multi instrumentist from Grayson County, Va).
There are no rules anywhere. Fine dobro player Tut Taylor plays with a flat pick unlike most dobro players thatuse fingerpicks.

"There are no rules anywhere" You just described rock and roll my friend or at least that's what I was taught when learning guitar.

I have a 1978 Henderson mandolin. I have played 4 different signed Loyd Loar mandolins, and the Henderson sounds better than any of the Loars. I have people walk across fields at festivals and say, what in the world are you playing, I heard it from a mile away.

Fairly certain that the man in the red striped shirt @ 7:47 is Andrew Marlin, who is 1/2 of the Mandolin Orange duo.
