    Hi Tom, because Contrast is an important part of the V2 Cineprint16, with pre and post contrast nodes - do you have the "S curve for contrast" checked or not, in the settings? And do you recommend LumaMix to be at 100 or 0, in the pre and post contrast nodes? Thanks!

    Noticed when I used it that I had to spend a lot of time removing magenta & fixing the harsh halation. Not sure why magenta is pushed so much in this grade, most professional colorgrades shy away from magenta. Halation needs a smoother roll off, I just use Juan's or filmbox for halation which looks a lot more realistic (less like chromatic abberation on a cheap lens).

    Would you (or someone) recommend a way to actually tamp down the red glow emitting from faces? Everything else about the look I love, but I can't seem to lower the redness without effecting the entire clip and making it appear green. Thanks!

    • @TomBolles
      @TomBolles  ปีที่แล้ว

      If by glow you mean halation, you have to go inside the halation node and adjust the threshold. There are more details in the user guide pdf. Also if you're using V1, I'd recommend using V2 since I completely reworked the halation node tree and its more accurate.
      If you just mean oversaturated red skin tones, first I would check that your CST is correct, then check and adjust broad strokes like white balance, contrast, exposure, saturation. Lastly, once you've dialed in all those things for skin tones and it's still not there, then I'd try the color warper.

    i was wondering in order to apply the powergrade on to prores/raw footage, does one have to convert the footage to rec 709 first and correct before applying the powergrade and setting the cst? im usin a bmpcc6kpro thanks brotha

    • @TomBolles
      @TomBolles  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you would apply the powergrade to your ungraded footage and change the CST inputs to match the gamma and gamut your camera records in. For BMPCC6Kpro that would be Blackmagic film Gen 5 gamma and Blackmagic Wide Gamut Gen 4/5 color space

    I use a Panasonic BS1H and I shoot 5.7K ProRes RAW. But of course, I cannot import this directly into Resolve, so then I convert to cDNG and import.
    All of this to ask, my question. For the inputs in the CST I change all of my inputs to Panasonic (first step). Should I also change the other every other node referencing ARRI to match my Panasonic? Specifically I noticed that you changed to Panasonic in the CST but left ARRI in the WB node?

    Something weird is happening with Davinci Resolve 17 Version 17.4.5. I have paid Studio version now. when I add a Node and scroll through Luts in folder. It crashes Davinci Resolve every time. Has this happened to anyone else? It happens every time. Maybe once I was able to add a Node and LUT, but once I want to try a different lut it crashes Davinci Resolve again. The only way to get out of it was to force Quit. And I have an M1 Pro Max this shouldn't happen I'm thinking maybe Resolve hasn't optimized it fully for the M1 yet, Wondering if mine is an isolated issue or has this happened to anyone else? The crashes only happen when Tom Bolles Power grades applied. Not when working withing my own node tree.

    When I try to use this in the free version of Resolve, I get a watermark over my footage. Does anyone know why?

      If you’re in the free version of Resolve you need to disable the Denoise and Grain nodes because those are limited to the full version. There are free alternatives for grain like using overlays

    how well does this work with iphone footage?

    • @TomBolles

      Pretty well. You’d just use Rec.709 as your CST inputs. Or if you use something like filmic pro to shoot in log you can use a log input like Cineon.
      Here’s a video using a very early version of CinePrint16 on iPhone footage:

    The thing is that your images look very soft now, absolutely no sharpness. You get more sharpness on real film than on this emulation, I think you should reduce some settings in some part of the Powergrade.
