Guys, don't waste time with this video. Just select the object you want to rotate and click on it. Then you'll be able you rotate it. The video starts at 2:11.
Great video I came looking to learn one thing and I learned a few others, But I still want to know. How can you reset an objects rotation to 0 degrees (as if you have never rotated it at all).
The process is annoying and not intuitive. But click on the rotated object, click on the "Open XML Editor" in the Commands Bar (shift+ctrl+x), and in the bottom table there's a column labeled "Value" with one of the values being "rotate()" - inside the parenthesis is a number value. Highlight just the number with your mouse, then type "0." Hit the enter key and close out the window.
Well, but how to set/modify absolute numerical value of object rotation? Having only the relative rotation in the Transform tool is useless when the object already has some unknown rotation.
How do you rotate an object and make perfectly middle? I can't really express what am I trying to say here but you know whenever you try to drag an object for example a star, you'll notice that you will create a star but the edges of the stars are not perfectly in the middle, now how do you make it perfectly in the middle?
Fake it by creating a bottom layer that is a rectangle shape (assuming your document is a rectangle), rotate that bottom layer, then export as a PNG with the background set to transparent.
I made this video pre-Goldfish attention span era, but also could have added chapters to the video to make it easier for people to jump to the parts they wanted. Chapters have been added.
Apparently it is only possible to rotate the object as long as it is not in a layer... *sigh* Because I could not rotate the object, with a second click it would just jump to the layer

Good overview! I'd add that you can manually pull the rotation center anywhere else and rotate around that point too.
Good point!

Exactly. I still can't figure that out.

Probably the easiest way to accomplish this is to drag a ruler onto the composition and have the points of the star align to the ruler
Thanks for this tutorial davi...I am new to inkscape. Your tutorials are awesome.

So, how can we rotate a whole group of objects with mouse?
How do you rotate the whole image, and save it such that it saves as rotated during export?

Bottom right corner of Inkscape has a field labeled "R," this is for the rotation of your page/canvas. Change the value back to 0.
A ten-minute video on just rotating something?
I was just telling the same thing. Lol

The fact that it doesn't store total rotation information is absolutely horrible
