'In Hell Is Where She Waits For Me' is the first time they wrote about the murder that inspired their name. For that alone it's a fun place to start a deep dive into their catalogue (banger of a track too).

This single sounds like they wanted to go back to their roots a bit, yet it is a new sound for them at least with the vocals which is unavoidable. They probably didn't want to stray too far from what the fans love, but for sure I expect some surprises with their new album seeing as song writing duties are sorta split 3 way between the guitarists (including brian who always composed a lot of the material).
As for recommendations, really hard to say but the album Ritual is often considered a favorite or at least more accessible.

TBDM haven´t changed that much all over the years since the Unhallowed album (their debut), if anything they have been sounding the same but with a little bit more technicality with every new record they´ve made (all of them killer IMO, but it can get same-ish for a while).
Regarding the circumstances of TBDM continuing without Trevor, it´s one of the few cases where it wasn´t a replacement per-say, but a succession, the singer Brian Eschbach who´s one of the OG´s of the band (their back up vocalist and former guitar player) took the brave and risky decision to step up and take the torch that Trevor left, and also another classic (non OG) ex-member returned to the band as lead, Ryan Knight, to fill the original role of Brian.
As for recommendations, Re listen to the debut Unhallowed, or listen to albums 2 and 3, Miasma and Nocturnal, you can´t go wrong with any of those (or any album really, they sound alike a lot of them).

I'm not sure why I stopped bothering with them, my tastes have definitely changed a bit over the years, I first heard their EP "A Cold Blooded Epitaph", I have a couple albums by them that I'll have to revisit! Thanks for all the info! :)

If you like the energy on this track you’ll love their album nightbringers, it’s one of their most aggressive albums ever (still with plenty of melody), and it just grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go, barn burner from start to finish. And that was their second to last album before Trevor’s passing and came out in 2017 so the fresh energy is crazy considering that. The songs “matriarch” and “of god and serpent, of spectre and snake” being 2 of the most balls to the walls song on the album.
And nightbringers is my favorite album from the band despite being so recent
I also don’t know if lyrics matter to you, but the story in matriarch is fucked up and awesome. It’s just a short creative horror story about a woman who can’t bear children cutting the baby out of a pregnant woman. My favorite string of lyrics from the song being “see that damned ol stork up there? He won’t hear my calls, he won’t read my letters, man, in this womb no life at all. Thats what the doctors said, said “why even try?”. I’m shut down and I’m broken deep inside. Tonight I’ll use this blade, to get exactly what I want: the child within you, incubating for 9 hardshipped months”

Great video, much love to the boys! If you want to go back and try some of the best of the best, Nocturnal is great all the way through, Ritual is my favorite so many killer songs, Verminous is probably the most polished expression of BDM. Have fun!!

So I'm a pretty big TBDM fan...I was pretty choked when Trevor passed, I met him at that show with EXHUMED, actually got a pic with him which I'm surprised about because someone punched him in the face during their set....anyhow as for this song...I dunno brother, it was good, no question, but there was an opportunity here that was missed IMO. First song of their return from tragedy? I expected something a bit extra for some reason. Their previous albums before Trevor passed (Nightbringers and Abysmal) were just so fucking good (I'd recommend checking out the song Vlad, Son of the Dragon). I am kinda of mind blown that Brian sounds so much like Trevor, but I feel like that was the story of this song, basically proving that that can still do it? I'll still support them nonetheless

Yeah that was the point, super safe song tbh, but it was necessary, currently the fanbase and band members themselves are still hurting, and to change nothing about the sound was necessary.
I'm glad they stuck together at least...

Totally understandable, it's definitely a real shame and even as someone who wasn't a "fan", I still thought it was sad and tragic. Trevor definitely seemed like a nice dude. I never knew he got punched during the set, that's fucked! I just remember talking to Brian Hopp (Cephalic Carnage) who was doing sound for them. I wasn't paying much attention to TBDM sadly as I was there for Exhumed. For me I had no expectations going into this so I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it.

@headbangersreact ooooh I love me some cephalic carnage. One listen to ohrwurm and that bass line will be stuck in my head for days...
