    Keep in mind to be careful guys. I have done this, and overlubing the switches can cause a chatter and will require you to take out the switch and clean them off to fix it. So not a big deal for a hotswap keyboard, but quite the nuisance if you need to solder.

  • @HitokiriShin

    Hey shiba tek why should I only lube 2 sides of a tactile switch? also does this method remove the metal pinging sound?

    • @thegreatsawyer
      @thegreatsawyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lubing in general removes ping, so I assume. and lubing just the sides/not the legs&leaf allows the tactility to not be muted/nearly removed.

    • @LeMegz
      @LeMegz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just as thegreatsawyer said, tactile switches have the distinct bump feedback that linear switches lack. that's why you only lube two sides instead of all sides as to not affect the bump feel.

    If I lube the switch with superlube but lube with the krytox lube way, does it safe?

    • @shiftadvance
      @shiftadvance 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you mean "can i do this with krytox instead?", i'm sure you can. in fact, it'll probably feel even better because krytox 205 will last longer and will stay in the same place as where you applied it on. krytox 205 is also thicker, which will definitely help the switches feel even more buttery and will help the switches sound even quieter. but if you're talking about the krytox 105, it'll basically be the same thing as the superlube in the video.

    if i use the lube that you used with this same method on browns, will the lube somehow spread to the legs and obliterate the tactility? if it does spread to the legs over time, is it possible to use a lube similar to 205g0 (which, ofc, is thicker and thus won't spread as easily) with this method? thanks in advance! :-D

    • @anpellersohot
      @anpellersohot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will not spread to the legs since they curve and the lube is more solid and won’t drip when done right, at least what I think

      the liquid-y superlube that he used? that's actually less thick than what you'd want. ideally, you should use krytox 205g0 or even any similar generic silicon lubricant because the superlube used in the video won't provide as much smoothness and won't dampen as much sound, unlike something thicker such as krytox 205g0 or silicon lube.

    honestly after doing this, keyboard feels like shit. I left few keys unlubed (because you didnt mention that lube you recomended is not enough for one 60% keyboard)
    and the lubed keys just feel heavy, no difference in scratching

    Can you do pen and then spray lube?

    • @shibatek4953
      @shibatek4953  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend just using one method, doing both might easily overlube your board

    • @shibatek4953

      I've actually tried lubing blues with these before. You can actually dampen the sound and improve the feel but you would purposely need to overlube it

      @@shibatek4953 Oki, how long does the lube last on these?

    • @shibatek4953

      The board in the video was lubed around last year may. The sound dampening is a little less, but the feel is still all the same

      Do not lube blues! once you lube them they become borderline browns.

  • @GDubbleBubble

    why would you think adding something to dampen the sound is going to have any affect on lubicrated parts? Lube is for movement, dampening is for sound.

    I watched a video on how to use super lube spray. Now some of my keys don't work. I tried wd40 electronic cleaning spray, it helped some. Do you think the pen will fix my keyboard?

    • @shibatek4953
      @shibatek4953  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spray possibly damaged some electric components, but it's also possible that there's just too much lube in the switch. Clean it out and let it sit for a few days maybe it'll get it workin again? Happened to me before

    • @shiftadvance

      before i get into the instructions, there's a better method called the "push stem lube" method. it's very similar to the one shown in the video, except that you just need some thin brush and you need thicker lube (ideally krytox 205g0 or even any generic silicon lube that's similar to 205g0) than the superlube used in the video.
      ALSO, something that's really important is whether you want to keep the tactility (the bump) or not. i'll give instructions for both scenarios.
      alright, let's get into the instructions!
      IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE TACTILITY:
      - get a bit (not too little, but not too much to the point where you can clearly see the lube on your brush) of 205g0/silicon lube on a VERY thin brush (thin enough to fit between the stem of the switch, which is the brown part, and the housing of the switch, get a brush that's 000 in size)
      - get something like a toothpick and push down on the stem
      - while the stem is pushed down, brush both the left and right side of the switch but NOT the front and/or back (these areas contain the stem legs and leaf which create the bump)
      - once you're done, push the stem down and release it a few times to rub the lube in there
      - done! just wipe off any excess lube on the switch itself (NOT inside)
      IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE THE TACTILITY:
      - SAME as if you want to keep the tactility except that, when lubing, you brush ALL 4 sides of the switch, not just the right and left

  • @josejimenez896

    Imo that pen is WAY to expensive for what you get oil wise. I recommend buying the little 7oz bottle of even fuck it a pint/quart size if you're using enough. Then just buy a squeeze buttle with a blunt tip needle attachment. Much better control, much better value
