    The "splick" noise the extreme switch makes is hilarious and horrifying. I can't imagine the amount of lubricant it would take to do that to a 62 key board.

    i actually preferred the 'over-lubed' one, on my current rk brown switches (tactile), i have exactly how u lubed the 'over-lubed' one, except i only lubed the end of the string, turns out pretty well for me! buttons are still responsive and it has the 'silent kick' sound which i kinda likes

    • @ronylee11
      @ronylee11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@masterbomber98 its hard to describe in words, u should try it on one switch!
      when u "slightly over-lube" a switch, it changes the sound of a switch, makes it lower pitch, and feels different too.
      do be careful, u don't wanna go too much over-lubed and makes it mushy, sounds "oily", hard to press, and less responsive!
      for general rule of thumb, just stick with "less is more" principle when u lube switches if u dont wanna mess up ur switches XD

    Oh my gosh, the just..... Crunch of the flooded switch.
    I just lubed my current main keyboard(Gateron Milky yellows) and did that third switches amount. Not a light amount, but not too much. Just a nice reflective sheen, but no notable whiteness from too much lube being present, and it feels like a dream.
    I really appreciate this video's results as it tells me I have the exact right amount for my keybaord, but have always wondered what it would be "too" generous.

    It really depends on the type of switches you have too. When I over lube linears that has more than 62g of actuation force, it feels very unresponsive and uncomfortable to type on. With linears less than 62g of actuation force, I actually like to over lube them, since they don't feel that sluggish. That being said it all depends on how fast you can type as well. I can type anywhere between 130wpm to 150wpm so unresponsive keypresses will bother me a lot. Someone who types slower, like 90wpm, won't be as bothered because the switches will return quickly enough anyhow.

    If you didn't lube the pole, #4 would likely have not been squishy like that and been perfectly responsive. Same with #5, I don't think it would have been that dramatic were the pole not clogged up to dampen stroke haha. I've always done it between 3 and 4 (essentially paint the rail, hit the spring seats, and lightly run the brush down one side of the spring to form tiny blobs that will dampen ping - using a long-lasting di-electric grease) and after about five years so far haven't had issues with drying out like the boutique greases seem to do when applied so thin. I've got a few before-after's that I've filmed to showcase just how it transforms just about any board, but the only one I ever put up was for a NPKC 60% where I installed OG Zealios. It went from clack-town to seriously quiet, I couldn't believe how well it worked; and any keyboard I mod like this only ever gets smoother as it's used more.

    When I first tried to lube a keyboard I ended up doing a lot of keys like the 2nd to last one. Overlubing actually makes switches somewhat clicky sounding which is probably from the stickiness of the lube acting on certain parts instead of benefiting from the greasiness of the lube. Like a bell curve switches are loudest when either under or overlubed.

    The 5 is just over the top ridiculous. I'm between 3-4, I don't feel that's "over lubed". It's not like there is a standard for it anyways, sure the professional nerds say to just put a tiny bit on, but I think it's a preference just like the board or the switches you chose. Just built a Q1 pro with Gateron Black Ink V2 and I like them to be quiet and very smooth and don't mind the slight decrease in responsiveness, I even do o-rings and weighted caps to really get that thick and heavy feeling.

    Back in the day i killed two razer blackwidows with cherry mx blue switches by spilling monster on them. I quickly then taught myself how to flush the switches and the keyboard to completely clean it.
    One day it was all sticky and stuck keys and basically garbage. A day later everything had been flushed out by air tool oil and literally feeling brand new. IMO there is no such thing as too much lube, you can soak those fuckers and eventually it will work its way through the switches, clean them, and then come off/dry up. Then you just lube em normally after theyre all good.

      Oh by the way, if you ever have the misfortune of trying this. Blast the heck out of that sucker with compressed air to get the excess oil/lube out faster and soak it up with some paper towels. Air tool oil will literally clean the switches on its way out.

    i found this while trying to determine if a RK keyboard i just started using is overlubed, making me type very poorly (lots of extra or out of order letters).
    i think the OEM i had been using just wasnt lubed at all so any amount is catastrophic ;_;
