  • Just some insight on the 2012 Nissan Frontier that I purchased. I could have talked about the truck in greater depth, but I realized the video was getting lengthy. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
    UPDATE AS OF 05/01/18
    PARTS REPLACED
    -Heater hose cracked at plastic connector, easy fix. I live in the desert so plastic parts don't last long out here
    -Camshaft position sensor failed at 104k on bank 1. Again, easy fix
    -Driver side rear axle seal began to leak at roughly 100k. I will be installing a new one this weekend.
    Still no major issues. A few small part replacements here and there are to be expected and I'm happy that they've all been easy fixes

      To each his own, but the ~2010 Toyota trucks looked great. Now they look hideous to me, and are far too expensive for a mid sized 6 cylinder. My new Pro 4X came with every option for several thousand $$$ less. No giant stack, grill, or non functional scoop though. I guess I could score those out of a JC Whitney catalog later. Maybe buy an air horn while I'm there?

    I bought a 2016 king cab SV V6 4x4 brand new. So far it has been fantastic. These are very rugged little trucks. Only complaint I have is gas mileage and turning radius. I can live with that. Im not getting 20mpg all day long like you. These Frontiers are a good deal. They are nothing fancy, but thats what I like about them. Simple and tuff. I am 53 years old and have no interest in a bunch of bullshit electronic gizmos. Affordable and reliable is what I am interested in. Thats what this truck is from my experience. Is it perfect? Hell no. But in my opinion this is a great little truck for the money and I highly recommend it to anybody who wants a reliable, tuff, and affordable small truck. I have not had a single problem of any kind with mine so far.

I like the Utilitrack bed anchors too. Hoping to have many trouble free miles. She's only got 70k so among trucks she's still young.

    • @duncdunc76
      @duncdunc76 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HisLostSheep Was wondering about the titan swap and turning radius. So the swap noticeably improves turning radius? I've got a 2008 fronty crew SE 4X4 long bed with 240,000. Its still going strong but the factory suspension is getting pretty long in the tooth and I'm planning on doing a lift suspension upgrade and have been seriously considering the titan swap. If the swap does improve turning radius then that pretty much puts it at the top of my list.

I didn't know anything about these trucks until after the purchase and aside from a few minor gripes, I am super happy with it. I also have a 2 wheel drive SV and want to get slightly larger tires and a modest lift. Good to hear MPG hasn't suffered. I am consistently getting about 19.5+/- MPG combined (mostly highway). People, please for the love of god, stop making videos comparing Nissan Frontiers to trucks like the Tacoma. They aren't the same thing. The Tacoma doesn't have a fully boxed ladder frame. It doesn't have 4 wheel disc brakes. It has a plastic truck bed you cannot put anything into without voiding your warranty. It is nothing but a glorified grocery getter / bro-dozer. The ONLY advantage you have in a Tacoma over a Frontier is the fact that you can resell it for higher. That of course is offset by the fact that you quite clearly PAID more for it up front. The Frontier is the last true midsize truck made for truck owners. STILL the most rigid fully ladder boxed frame on the market of all midsizes. The best reliability (JD power most reliable truck for sale in the USA, both midsize AND full size for both 2016 and 2017, whereas the Tacoma is the highest failure rated truck in the USA and Toyota as a brand has the most recalls of any import there is.) You buy a Nissan Frontier to do work, because it is reliable, because engineering to you is more important than having an extra 16 USB charging ports added to the rear passenger doors. The ONLY downside I've found to my 2016 manual pro-4x so far is the fuel economy and the fact that they won't sell it with a moonroof/sunroof when you choose a manual transmission. The fuel economy I expect. It's a heavily built chassis and body that doesn't flex and the engine, while dated, was designed for high torque and longevity. So while the neighbor with the Taco is wondering why his truck shuts off on the highway due to electrical glitches or has his passenger side door fall off of the truck when it's less than 30 days old while at 60mph, both of which have happened to coworkers of mine in the past 3 years, you can rest assured that your Frontier will mechanically and structurally stand the test of time. Toyota just lost in 2017 the largest automotive class action lawsuit in US history when the USA proved that Toyota trucks and SUVs have significant rust damage coming off of the assembly line. Before they even hit the dealer lots as new vehicles they are rusting away underneath and that's what they're selling to customers. The USA wasn't having any of that and that settlement is over 5 billion $ now and counting. The government even forced Toyota to cease sales of the FJ Cruiser in this country because they WERE BREAKING IN HALF AT THE FRAME and Toyota could not rectify the issue. Go try and buy a 2018 FJ Cruiser, I dare you. Just sold my 22 year old Nissan frontier which was parked next to the ocean most of my naval career and the salt air did literally nothing to it body or frame. Please stop comparing the current Nissan Frontiers with some of these newer midsize trucks which are trying to drive more like cars than trucks and give you CAR interiors and such rather than TRUCK interiors. They are not the same thing.

    • @DoubleTap702
      @DoubleTap702  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      jkutyna they both fall into the midsize truck category which Toyota dominates in sales. Of course people are going to compare the two.

    • @jkutyna
      @jkutyna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      True, but the Honda ridgeline beats ALL midsize trucks out with regards to the JOURNALISTS' REVIEWS. That truck is currently winning all of the rewards because it's giving the tech addicts who review the vehicles exactly what they want. That thing is a unibody chassis. By my definition, it's not even a truck for that reason alone. Take everything with a grain of salt. There are things people are all looking for, some vehicles stand out in some respects more than others. Unfortunately for Nissan's sales, it's strengths with the Frontier is not where the mainstream public has placed it's priorities in the past decade or so. They want a CAR like ride and good MPG. That clearly doesn't suit the Frontier in anyway. The aged Frontier here is exactly what some of us others exactly are looking for, a no frills rock solid platform with the best reliability there is, at the lowest cost. If I can't expect to get 20 years out of a truck, I won't even consider it. If it doesn't come with a manual, I won't even consider it so that wipes out all the full size trucks for me and really limits my choices to Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado/Canyon, but not really as the GM branded trucks SAY they offer a manual but they only do so on the barely produced 4 cylinder versions.

    • @jkutyna
      @jkutyna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      While you are correct that yes people will keep comparing the 2, it's not really a fair comparison as people are selecting their vehicles based on criteria that is important to them and the Tacoma is built for ultra light duty, if that, more MPG and looking good in the surburban streets than anything. That is appealing to people lately so it sells. That and the higher resale value. I do not deny that. You won't get someone who wants to buy a truck and sell it within 3 years to get a new one and will NEVER take it off of pavement, to buy into the merits of owning a Nissan Frontier. It just will not come close in their decision based on what else is out there.

    • @jkutyna
      @jkutyna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry, I just don't know how to get my point across succinctly. I am passionate about this subject and I take years doing research to find a perfect vehicle to buy. My brother owns a Toyota and he spends as much per month if not more on repairs for that thing than I do on the new car payments for my 2016 Fronty.

Although the frontier never left me stranded, by the time I was ready to trade it in, every speed bump felt like it was going to raddle the truck loose. It squeaked like a stage coach too. I put 265/75/16 BF’s all terrains on it and I was lucky to get 260 miles per tank. My Tacoma is getting 340-60 a tank and has beautiful features and has and will have an amazing re sale value. I went with a year older 16' with only 30,618 miles in excellent condition. This time she's a King Cab SV 4.0 4x4, my 1st ever in the Frontiers!!
      So far love the power the 6cyl has over the 4cyl!

    I bought a 2018 frontier pro-4x. Upgraded from a 01 Silverado. It’s got what I need plus a couple of extras. The price for same years tacos and other similar sized trucks are outrageous. Granted it may not have apple play or other things that other people find more appealing than a proven v6 engine. I knew the design was still the same as it was in 05. But in my opinion I like the design it reminds me of their older hard body trucks. The way I see it I have a new version of a timeless classic.

    I have a 2009 Nissan Frontier SE 4X4 with 153k miles. The vehicle had 32K miles when I purchased it. I've had to replace the cam sensors at 140K - $700 repair, and last week new struts, alignment, spark plugs and a fuel system injection clean - $1500. This has been the most reliable vehicle I have purchased and would not hesitate to buy another one with high miles. This is the first vehicle I have kept and run over 100K miles, since I had it beat into my head that all vehicles over 100K miles go to hell, I was worried. That's certainly not the case with my Nissan. I thought if I could run it to 200k that would be awesome. I'm seeing people with well over 200K miles.

      I've never seen anyone use a Toyota as a work vehicle where I live and I live way way up north, the people who work in the logging, rail, construction industries all drive rams, chevys, gmc and fords and the odd Toyota which never has anything in the back and seems to me that's why they have a high resale value is it's not worked to death like the other guys, I'm not a mechanic or claim to know alot about vehicles but that's what I see. I'd still buy a Toyota but they're expensive.

    I have a 2011 Suzuki Equator. It’s a re-badged Frontier inside & out. Love it. Things I don’t like: the turning radius is horrible. It’s a 4x4 and in the Chicago winters it’s blasts thru deep snow with ease.

      It's an annoyance, but that isn't a a true bother. Mine is going to be a tow vehicle and I won't need tight turns. Outside of a very tight parking lot, the turning radius doesn't matter.

    • @montanawhite5699
      @montanawhite5699 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but a ram 2500 is way bigger, I think Nissan just screwed up some how. Other trucks of similar size have tighter turning radiuses. I’m not saying it has to turn on a dime, but at least make a u turn without reversing in the middle of the road to re adjust.

    • @montanawhite5699
      @montanawhite5699 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thing I noticed with these frontiers is the tailgate cover. It’s plastic, which is no big deal... but with the tailgate down, the plastic lip is sticking up, so if you drag something out of the truck with the tailgate down, it can easily snag that plastic lip and the whole plastic cover rips off. I did this to my bosses truck with a big plastic pipe. Ripped the whole thing right off. And our other frontier has the plastic cover zip tied on because someone else did the same thing. Just something Nissan should of thought about more. Don’t get me wrong, I love Nissan hardbodies, great little work trucks. First gen frontiers were alright. The four doors were almost useless . You can fit small children in the back somewhat comfortably. And it felt a little cheap but not a bad truck. I really want Nissan to make a new generation already, it’s been too long. I hope they go more Tacoma route than ridgeline. But come on Nissan, keep manual transmissions and give us something to brag about rather than defend.

    If anybody actually crawled underneath one and seen how they're made from the ground up you can't help to not want to buy one just look at their frame Nissan has fully boxed frame not a C channel like the Toyota's Chevy's it's a joke, and really Toyota drum brakes on the rear WTF it's 2018!! Not 1980!! I wouldn't pay $40,000 for any vehicle that didn't have rear disc brakes, and plastic beds Really" I kind of like my metal bed on my Nissan. The fact it is literally the only brand in the USA that still sells new vehicles with drum brakes and non-boxed frames with it's body-on-frame vehicles is practically criminal. Throw in the fact they want their customers to pay premium prices for their vehicles, and I can't but help laughing at them and all their rusty frames.

    Nice looking truck! The white really pops. I've had a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider and a 2007 Dodge Dakota Lariat, but I've had a 2016 Frontier for about 10 months now and I really love the thing. (I've also had an '81 Chevy Luv and a Mitsubishi Mighty Max, heh). I've taken my Frontier hunting off road in the Pacific Northwest mountains and it never had the slightest issue. I mostly drive in the city though, so my gas mileage hasn't been great, currently sitting at 12.8 mpg, but I don't have much of a commute so it doesn't matter. I actually just had a friend review mine here if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/35kPCagpLPo/w-d-xo.html A friend of mine just got a '18 Toyota Tacoma that has a more advanced looking interior, but there's just something about the Frontier. In a word, it's badass.
    One question though: I'm thinking about getting it lifted, but have never done that before and don't know where to start. How much does something like that cost, and where do I even begin looking? Thanks, and congrats on joining the Frontier family. I even wave at other Frontier drivers on the road when I see them because only they know what it's like!

    I got a 2013 pro 4x4 Frontier crew cab love it too, just wish it had more towing capability. The reason why Nissan devided the read seat windows is so it would be able to go all the way down when you lower it, if you had a full undevided window then when you lower it it would not go down all the way because the air bags placement and such are in the way. Also I really hate that Nissan Frontier its been almost the same thing since 2005, i mean hello Nissan We are in 2018!!!!!!!!!!!! Been paying the same money for the same looks and the same engine design that gives 15-16 mpg in the city while you got chevy silverado 5.3 v8 doing 16 mpg in the city!!!!! I don't care who makes the vehicle, with 130k miles, you're basically buying into faith in the previous owner's driving and maintenance habits. Why are you failing to point out that your 2000 Tacoma also rusted in half as that is one of the years that Toyota was forced to cover for a new frame when it lost the WORLD'S LARGEST CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT to the US government about it's rusty truck and suv frames?
