I have a 2007 crew cab LE with 70,000 original miles and just recently replaced the original factory tires that worn down evenly for the past 10 years. Minor repair of the fuel pump and some sensors that the service engine light indicated in codes of these changes. Very reliable truck.

I'm thinking that Nissan should promote the dickens out of this truck. Especially with this price bracket and being the 'honest' truck that it is.
Now the Nissan Frontier King Cab S, has the field all to itself, ever since Ford dropped the Ranger model.
The one 'extra' that I would like most to have with this truck is a sprayed in or on bed lining.
    Good job Tommy!

    • @TheVwboyaf1
      @TheVwboyaf1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

When I got my S preferred package Frontier last year, it came with a bed liner. I also put a tonneau cover on it, which really classes it up in my opinion. I agree about the ride. It makes my commute really comfortable, and with the aftermarket siriusxm receiver I hooked up, I actually look forward to driving my little truck everyday.

Having owned enough (over-engineered, over-hyped) Fords that had to be flat-bed back the dealerships after breaking down somewhere... I cracked up when Ford started running the new Ranger commercials aimed to people who like to... jump off cliffs? Ride bikes.... off cliffs? Ski... off cliffs? Drive like an idiot... off cliffs... Yup... I would say something is missing upstairs to want to buy a Ford... Anyhow.

I have a 2004 Frontier SV I4 4x2 that I picked up 8 years ago as my "dump hauler" and yard truck. The truck is my daily driver now! It runs like a clock, if you have a Phillips head screw driver and a basic socket set, you can fix EVERYTHING on it. Hitting 175k miles, and other than routine road wear and maintenance, it has been superb! For 15 years old, there are a few spots of rust where you would expect spots of rust, but otherwise, SOLID. It sold us on the brand! The truck took us touring the Rockies, and down the the Everglades. Never offered up a fuss. Love it! Love it! Love it!

Great video. There's something to be said for a basic, inexpensive truck that serves the needs of many city-dwellers without pomp and circumstance. Two of my relatives own these as additional vehicles, and I can honestly say we (the rest of the family) have all reaped the benefits.

I just bought the Pro-4X version of the Frontier and absolutely love it. We took it semi-off roading up to Mt Rainier, we ran into some deep snow. I was super impressed with its ability to handle deep snow, mud, and pretty large holes in the ground. I get it that the Tacoma is a hugely popular truck but I just prefer the Frontier, more bang for your buck.

Where I live, Toyotas are always for sale, because their owners think they're worth 20-30% more than they are. No one wants your frame rotted 99 Tacoma for $8000CAD. Nissan trucks hold their value reasonably well, better than luxury vehicles anyway. And as far as bang for your buck: when offroading Tacomas are selling new for over 50,000 CAD whilst the Frontier Pro-4X is 30,000-35,000.... yeah, you're never gonna get that twenty grand back, and for what extras? A gutless engine, drum brakes, and a fancy traction assist.

I recently acquired a 2009 with only 18k miles on it from my father in law. I drove it home from Idaho to New Orleans 2400 miles through the mountains and desert. I had 0 problems with the truck. I love this little truck. It’s perfect for someone who needs a truck, but don’t need to tow 10,000 pound trailers. The truck can haul mowers, 4 wheelers ect with no issues. Cold a/c, amazing ride quality, fit and finish is outstanding, it does not feel like your driving a 20k dollar truck.

Amen to that. My Pop ( grandfather) had 2) Datsun ( Nissan) pick ups a 74' Regular cab & a 78' king cab. Both Lwb 4cyl & 4 & 5 spd transmissions ( 74 had the 4spd) They were both 2wd trucks with narrow buckshot mudgrips on the back. He put a 50 gal diesel tank , twin tank air compressor , a 5 gallon bucket of hyd oil & tool box in both for his crews. & they glided across the muddy jobsites that they worked on. (Excavation work)@ night during the fall my pop racoon hunted. & if wasn't racoon hunting . He was. Rabbit hunting on the weekends during the day. He often took the king cab as he & a buddy sat up front & I rode in the ext cab. & he had his dog box in the back. Along with lights etc. I'm now in the market for a small truck. Something I can knock around in & pull a small trailer for a zero turn & an occasional load of mulch. So I don't have to always depend on my 3/4 GMC all the time. I remember the Gas mileage & how dependable those little Datsun pick ups were to my Pop & his business back so many years ago. As they went where our 1ton 4wd service truck fully loaded with 350gal fuel tank , air compressor, vise, Tool boxes, work lights, wouldn't go without problems@ times. It makes me think Maybe the Frontier is just as good as the old Datsun pick ups used to be.

so refreshing to see a vehicle not full of unnecessary technology. I don't want automatic trans. I don't want electronic emergency brakes. I don't want push button start(totally pointless). I don't want lane-change assist. I don't want blind spot monitoring. I don't want the engine to stop running at a red light. I don't want any of the BS that the manufacturers put into modern vehicles for the sole purpose of jacking up the price. I refuse to pay for it.

I would hope you don't spend more. I have no need for features. Key term there "need" I also have no "want" either. If it is reliable that is all I care about. It can have no ac, no radio, manual locks windows etc and bothers me none. I prefer simple machines with simple features. I don't call when im driving so dont need handsfree. Dont stream music or use my phone for music when driving so have no need for bluetooth. You can buy what you want but I use a truck as a work thing , not a gadget or fashion statement personally.

Agree with you in many things, a car or truck is mainly a utility... having said that one thing i don't give up is AC and PW, PM i can live without but then again how much more can i car cost to add that... aahh and Automatic, stick is nice for fun and but for some one that drives a truck everyday in a traffic stopping and go it's torture...

I own one but an automatic. The ride is worse than the f150 I had by far. But to get another f150 equipted like the one I had would've cost around $45,000. My little nissan was $23000. The mpg averages around 19. As for the bed , can't haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood and have it lay flat on the bed. I made a box to compensate for that. I hauled 16 ( approximately 750 lbs ) sheets at one time with no problems. Nice little truck.

I'm very happy with it, I get around 23 MPG but it's about 70% highway. I replaced a 2005 Tacoma, which I did like too but the sound dampening in the Nissan is like night and day to the Tacoma. Agree 100% with your review. I did add a Viper alarm with PDL :)

Once you set the mirrors it's fine. Only a problem if lots of people are driving it. Agree about the power locks. I have a 2010 Dodge with manual windows and locks and I rarely wish for power windows, but reaching across to unlock psgr side requires you to unbuckle. One thing you guys kinda miss about 2wd pickups is that you have same basic ruggedness and (almost) same road clearance. If you get four or five of those big kitty litter buckets and secure them next to the tailgate, and of course have good tires, snow traction is surprisingly good.

The more I look at it, the more I like the frontier.
Its just a basic work truck, no frills or useless gadgetry. It's cheap, reliable, and easy to fix. The SV V6 offers (for a few more K) a much better engine and hands free for phone calls, while still being cheaper then the base model f150/silverado, and 1k cheaper then the equivalent Colorado, while also being the smallest. Best value IMO.
The only thing I wish they did was sell a single cab/7ft bed model. My buddy's ranger is like this, and it comes in handy so often. Make it happen nissan!

I've needed a bit more traction in my 2WD Dakota several times, and just a locking rear end would do it for me.

starts at $18k...now in 2022, a used base model with 50k miles that is 5-6 years old is a mere $19-$20k!

My 09 frontier xe has been bullet proof since I bought it. 160,000 miles and only thing replaced we're a wheel bearing and brakes and rotors. It's my daily beater... it has decent power I can pull away from a Prius but you really gotta wind her out

I like THIS truck because the engine and transmission is made in JAPAN!! No worries about quality my only complaint is leg room I'm 5'11 and I have long legs drove to VA to SC my legs where a little cramped I would swap out the seat ralls underneath and put longer ones in like from an Altima they have ALOT of leg room other than that I loved the truck and great gas mileage to

I got a question for you? Do anyone knows what the little switch behind the steering wheel right next to the cargo light button is. The switch turns red when you turn it on,I got the 2014 Nissan Frontier s king cab

Great truck, my only question is do anyone knows why the engine ticks? I bought it new and it has always done that, it accelerates like a monster and is still low mileage.

I really like these trucks. Good MPG’s, all you need, nothing you don’t and I rarly have more than one other passenger so for work commute and extended cab to carry my golf clubs, a tailgate to sit on and a bed to haul stuff what more do you need. Sharp mid-size truck

I had a 2009 frontier xe similar to this one. It was a great truck I drove it for 86k the only thing a had to replace was the shocks and struts, the only reason I had to sell cuz my family of four didn't fit in it. Great truck I miss it 😔

The one thing that I wish even basic models have is power mirrors. It is a pain in the butt to adjust the passenger side mirror if it is not power.

Picked one up from an auto auction and quickly found it had no A/C. Was amazed by how nice it rode and drove. Seat was comfortable. Cruised easily at 80. Reminds me of the 1980's trucks...and in a good way. It is from 2005 in design but I liked it a whole lot. I saw them on sale clearance last year for 15k.

Ive been looking all day for a small basic truck. The Ford ranger base makes you take a 10 speed automatic..WTF do you need a 10 speed auto in a ranger????? FAIL. Chevy Colorado was my next pic and I liked it but no manual for around $22k to $24K....the only thing that has sold me on the Nissan..hand crank windows, 5 speed manual. No bullshit basic. SOLD! Power Mirrors are stupid when you are within arms reach. That's as dumb as having a radio in your car with a remote.
