  • Juggernaut comes from a time when Dota 2 was simple. As the game evolved over the years, was he able to keep up with the changing landscape, or was he left behind as a relic of the past?

    My very first memory of dota was my friend traching me the basics in a bot match, only for the enemy pudge to hook me while I was standing around the Radiant Jungle, and my friend as Juggernaut, panic spinned even though he was fine. Ah good times.

    I love seeing the contrast between the run-of-the-mill pubs and the biggest stage. Jugg has always been a decent pick in pubs and that made me think he was a lot more successful at TI than he actually was.

    • @justtakeitac2028
      @justtakeitac2028 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I think that makes sense since Jugg usually need coordination to overwhelm. Pubbies don't have that most of the time

    As someone who has never played Dota and only follows the International every year this is kinda like a look behind the scenes that explains why a hero that dominates one year is entirely absent in the next one. Very interesting and entertaining.
    Looking forward to the Shadow Shaman episode. He was picked/banned in what feels like almost every single game during the first TI I watched (4 I think) and I can't remember seeing him even once since then.

    • @PrivilegeYT
      @PrivilegeYT ปีที่แล้ว +3

      shadow shaman checked a lot of boxes in the early stages of dota. actually N0tail played a beast Polywog Priest [hon port] esp mid so I can see why he chose it when they converted to dota 2.
      the hero has a lot of crowd control, could push or team fight really well.
      the main reason I believe shaman stopped getting picked is due to the sheer amount of offense the meta supports can do now. Shaman has high wards cooldown and needs to channel shackles for it to be effective. now supports like Riki or Snapfire can easily counter shaman. Riki is invisible and can run the map since there are less sentry wards and since the map is bigger, you'd rather use sentries for counter warding. and Snapfire or other save supports can just push you out of the way from wards.
      the big thing is that there are more team fights more often. having a high cooldown ult is not worth it right now unless you can play around your timing.

    • @tschabow5608
      @tschabow5608 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The meta has shifted a bit. Back then fights would occur around objectives. Team A wants to take a tower, and Team B wants to defend it. Right now what usually happens is that Team A and Team B fight and whoever wins takes the nearest objective. The fights themselves are usually not centered around objectives. So shaman has to decide: do i save my wards for the tower (which he doesnt need since when they get to the tower the enemy team usually is dead anyway), or use them in a fight (they frankly suck in fights) or do i chose another hero which is great in Teamfights, like Jakiro

    • @Dr.Death8520
      @Dr.Death8520 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Serpent wards were great for demolishing towers, but I guess as pushing became less important the need for strong pushing ability dropped. He has good lockdown but the range was always short.

      yeah teams figured out his spells don’t do anything if he’s dead

    • @Canonall
      @Canonall 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many reasons why you would go for other supports instead of shaman, the main reason I think is that his ult is kind of pointless. Pushing towers early is just not a good approach

    I think you missed a crucial period between TI4 and TI5 when Jugg was overwhelmingly strong along with Troll Warlord, Axe and Sniper. Those three were nerfed severely, as well as mask of madness Jugg loved at the time. It was the 6.83 version, while TI5 was played on 6.84 version after the nerfs to Jugg. I know it’s not strictly related to the International but it provides some important context

    • @saberxjm
      @saberxjm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I still remember running around at 520 speed with mask of madness and SnY. That was also the patch where dota had the most daily and monthly players too. It all went downhill when they did away with all of that and destroyed that playstyle.

      @@foxsteve9937 agreed xD haha those were the good days when dota's monthly active player base threatened league of legends's player base, something was right about dota back then compared to nowadays when nobody fights you for carry role anymore. • @saberxjm
      @saberxjm 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@foxsteve9937 it definitely felt bad when a team with troll, axe and jugg auto won, but kills were so much easier to come back and people got to "play" the game vs nowadays where everybody's desire to kill and make plays typically gets denied via multitudes of healing and damage reduction which essentially denies many core players's ability to 'play' the game

    In the Warcraft 3 DotA Juggernaut was a strength hero that had some similar abilities. He had the whirlwind, healing ward, but his crit was one of his regular abilities. His ultimate was a simple 100% damage buff that used to last as long as it's cooldown, but later it was nerfed to 45 seconds with a 1 minute cooldown. Back when Boots of Speed still stacked, I once got 112 hero kills in a single game with him. Fun times.

      It was probably even harder back in Warcraft 3 DotA days. The WC3 engine compared to modern MOBA games felt abit clunky and hard to adapt to. Just try to play WC3 DotA vs AI after few years of LoL and you will understand. It was fun game, but learning curve ( which included adapting to WC3 engine quirks and limitations ) was utterly insane, even if you just play pub games.
