Clear or Coated Tom Heads? Evans UV2 vs. G2 clear

- This was announced on IG quite a while ago but I realized I didn't let the TH-cam fam in on it yet - this year I'm endorsing Evans drumheads and Promark sticks! I received a bunch of new heads and was curious how the UV2 batters would sound recorded in comparison to my usual G2s, so I made a video about it to share with you as well. They're played both in isolation and in the context of music, for something a little different.
I tried to keep the tuning and mic positions as consistent as possible between head changes to let you hear the difference in heads (if any). Both sets were played on regularly for about three weeks each, so they're still reasonably fresh but broken in. Let me know what differences you hear!
On a side note, the biggest takeaway for me from this video was... I really like the beta 52a on my 16" floor tom. That's just there because I don't have enough mics and had a kick mic to spare, but it works surprisingly well. The more you know!

Most Excellent Presentation ✝️👍🤙✌️
I'm going with the G2 Heads
Excellent comparison video👍
Love both heads. Love the extra attack from the G2’s but the UV2’s just feeeeel so good and sound very warm
Great Job with this vid! EXACTLY what I was looking for. Keep it up!
this is great! i agree with the idea that you did a side by side comparison that really helps in distinguishing the differences
So detailed, so professional. Thank you!
And thank you for checking it out!
What a great comparison video, best I have ever seen!!!
Thank you!!
So grateful for this video
Coated G2s also sound amazing to my ears. Thanks for the comparison!
Great comparison video!!! I’m definitely partial to the clear G2s! The tones seem warmer, full-bodied and enriched. I enjoy playing on Evans Level 360 EC2 clear heads!!! Thanks Christal!!
Great video. Thanks.
I'm loving this video! I use clear heads for my toms which are the evans g2 clear.
Try the EC2 clears, amazing tone.
Hi! Cool video! Nice drum heads! I love your hair! Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend 💜💜
G2s all the way. Especially on the 2nd Floor Tom. That Floor Tom sounded amazing with the G2. Definitely going to have to think about getting a set of G2s for my kit. Very informative video for sure. 👍😀
Great comparison!! I like "clear"!!
Sound is everthing
I had to replace all my remo clear pinstripes. I switched to the remo emperor coated. it wont be long before i go back to the clear pinstripes, way more attack. btw good video, i enjoyed watching it,😀
Happy to hear it 😁 It's fun to switch types now and then just for a slightly different feel, I find.
I put the uv2 on my Starclassic and they are amazing
Liked the clear more 👌
It's clear, clearly the clear ones. :P
Seems to me they have a bit more punch, you know, the high frequency at the start of the note. As a metalhead I would always prefer the punchy stuff.
Very coul that (and how) you did that!
Oh yes. For majority of metal it's definitely gonna be the clears for those clicky drum sounds to cut through the wall o' distortion!
I Like the G2s
Zildjian I love
Nice insert are those gears modeling thing or gig thing You can see the difference or read the fine print :D
Around 3:52 Me Myself and Irene movie pop in my head :D
Thanks for your time effort into comparison I personally like the UV2
What does Ren think
nice video i'll just stick with G2 clears on my Pearl Session Custom SMX i not too long ago after 16 years put a fresh G2 clear on my toms along with G1 as my resonance for a video i have on my channel myself but i play on Pearl and i'm tryin' to get some A Custom Zildjians as my upgrade
G2 Clear are more Funny, Open and Bright. Awesome!!!!
First, Thank You for this terrific Video with direct Side By Side comparison ! I have a PDP Maple kit and have been using (with the Drum Shop's recommendation) G2 coated batter heads on my Toms. I also tried EC2s clear and felt that they sounded a bit too "Plasticky". This gives some great Food for Thought. I detect a bit more "warmth" from the UV2 coated heads. BTW, What Snare batter head are you using? What DW drum kit did you get?
Ooooh good question, it's been a while and I actually can't remember what snare head was on here - it's either the HD dry or ST dry. But at the moment I'm using the UV2 on snare and black chrome on my toms! The kit is a performance series with 10/12" by 8 rack toms and 16" floor, 20" kick
Great comparison video! I have a question, I love the sound of your kick drum!!! Which kick drum head did you use?
Thank you! I believe it's a GMAD in this video with a ported Evans onyx eq3 on the front. I will credit a lot of my kick sound also to the Dr aliensmith alien8 as kick mic, that one's a game-changer!
@@stalj awesome to know! Much appreciated and keep up the quality content😁
Thank you for the comparison. Would you mind sharing the head that is used on the kick in this video?
Good point, in retrospect I should have mentioned - that's a GMAD with the smaller damping ring on!
@@stalj , thank you. Sounds like a beast 👌
Isolated I find the UV2 sound better, but in context of music the G2 works better.
G2s win
The difference between the UV2/G2 is not that great but the bright tones of the G2 won me over n this opinion is from a non drummer.
