    Nice approach. I tend to not worry about intervals between toms and use the perfect 4th between bottom and top heads.

    Sounds fantastic man. Just found your channel. See you've not been around for a year. Would love to hear how you mix your drums in a new vid. Going through the process myself, hard getting everything dialed how you want it! 👊🏼

      Thanks man! I'm working on putting something like that together - I'm in a new space now, so things are still getting dialed in!

    Yes, if C is the tonic, then F would be a 4th up from that, and Bb would be a 4th up from that. (I guess you could alternate a 4th and a 5th to get your octave, if that was important to ya...)

    I just tuned my 3 toms to perfect 4ths from each other and did the reso head a minor third above the batter head, I LOVE IT. I have a Tune-Bot so it's super easy to get a starting tone then just do the rest of the toms from there.

    Thank you so much for the info given in this video. Very helpful and will most deff apply this when tuning. What resonant heads do you have on the toms?

    • @TJHartmanndrums
      @TJHartmanndrums 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Glad you were able to find something useful here. On the racks I use a Genera Resonant and the Floors have Coated G2s.

    Hey man, great video and your drums sound awesome. If the perfect 4th is of five semitones, in a 10 12 14 16 configuration, how can 10 and 14 and then 12 and 16 be the same note just an octave apart. Am I getting confused?
    I tuned my drum set recently, I’ve got same configuration as yours, I tuned as it follows:
    10” C3 - 12” G2 - 14” D2 - 16” A1. I used the tune-bot. Isn’t that perfect 4th interval between the toms?
    Thanks for helping

    Sooo underrated film. Your work deserves hundreds of thousands of views. thank you for a great presentation of the topic
    P.S. only thing that I noticed is that mic of 10" tom didn't work properly??

    • @TJHartmanndrums
      @TJHartmanndrums 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much appreciated my friend! Thank you for watching! Yes, the 10" mic was definitely working. I use overheads and room mics to round out my mix, and they're typically pretty forward.

    Those sounded amazing! Personally I would've put some rings on the 10 and 12 inch toms. They sound like they tend to ring out more than the 14 and 16 inch floor toms, but otherwise they sound really good! How'd you find out the pitch of the shells themselves? Might try that tuning method too!

    • @TJHartmanndrums
      @TJHartmanndrums 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I usually use a few dampening gels on the rack toms as I'll want them to be more 'ringy' when compared to the floors, it's weird, but they sit in mixes better, at least for me. For the shell pitch, strip the drum down (you can leave the lug casings on) and tap the shell with either a mallet, or felt beater and you should hear a fundamental pitch, very similar to tuning a head.

    Thanks, I was debating either stay with aquarian and go for the texture coated or switch back to Evans and get the UV2

    What do you think of the UV2 heads? I have one on my maple snare but am considering getting them for the batter side of my toms. Right now I have G2 coated on them.

      Can't recommend the UV series enough! The versatility and durability they offer is amazing. I use a combination of UV series heads across all of my drums now.

    What is the size of that larger floor tom? That thing sounds like thunder! What reso heads are you using?

    • @TJHartmanndrums
      @TJHartmanndrums 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a 16" - I've got an Evans Genera Resonant head on the reso side - glad you dig!

      @@TJHartmanndrums thanks, I put a UV2 and a Genera on my 16x16 floor Tom and replaced the aging original 1985 reso head and the 20yo emperor head.
      These new heads are absolutely thunder and fire man. I’ve got to do the rack toms now.
      Thanks for your hard work!
