  • Howdy All. Here's my latest product review, and tom tuning tutorial on a drum head that I play for my gigs, I recommend as a tech, and that I absolutely love. The Evans UV2 Tom heads. In this video I demo these AWESOME drumheads via 3 different tom tuning intervals while maintaining the same note on the batter head for all three tunings as well as the interval between the drums.
    You can stream the full step by step lesson on how I tuned these 2 toms to all 3 intervals at
    www.kennysharr...
    as streaming the lesson helps to support my YT Channel, AND gives you a wicked set of tuning skills to boot. In addition you will find lessons for
    Tuning the 20" PowerTone Bass Drum to 4 great sounds:
    www.kennysharr...
    as well as for tuning the 8 lug 6.5" x 14" PowerTone snare drum in this video to 7 great tunings:
    www.kennysharr...
    Now for the drumhead. LOL The Evans UV2 is hands down my favorite 2 ply drum head on the market for getting big, rich, powerful tom sounds for rock, modern country, pop, gospel chops, and metal music.
    The special UV Coating makes them extra durable, which is for real as my last set lasted almost a year of drum tuning video shoots, and local gigs, yet still sounded great.
    As I mentioned in this video I demo the heads using 3 different tom tuning intervals so you can hear just how amazing the heads sound on this awesome new Rogers PowerTone Kit.
    1. Even tuning
    2. A Major 3rd (Reso Higher)
    3. The Perfect 4th (Reso Higher)
    That way you can see if this is the right drumhead for your needs. Solid y'all, and thank you for watching. Please like, share, and subscribe.

      Awesome. I’m pretty sure it will. These heads breathe well for 2 ply heads. Thank you for watching, and commenting.

    WOW...that Rogers kit sounds AMAZING.
    I've been using the UV2 heads for about a year on my DW Collectors kit. I'm using an Evans ONYX head on the bottom. This may be a weird combination, but it gives a warm/muted tone, which seems to work well in small venues. That said, I'm looking to brighten them up just a touch and am curious what you might recommend. What bottom head are you using in this video?

      Pretty sure he rocks 1 ply clear batters (g1). I’d recommend a coated single ply for something more in between. Personally, I love coated or clear two ply heads over CS dot or similar heads it really focuses the tone while keeping the sound relatively open. Coated g2/ coated amb is what I’m rocking right now.

      Howdy David thank you for the kind words. Yeah these drums are amazing. And btw if it gets the sound you want then there’s nothing weird about your choices 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🙌🙌🙌 Clear resos like the stock clear ambassadors on the kit in the vid will definitely brighten it up. In between I’d say coated single ply resos. G1 or Ambassador. 🙏 thank you for watching, and commenting. As i’m telling everyone Super Thanks is now available on my vids to help support my channel 🤘🏻

      I kept the stock clear Remo Ambassadors on the drums. That’s what makes these UV2’s so amazing. They make stock resos sound epic! Thank you for watching.

    On my Ludwig (Taiwan made) birch set with 10/12/14 toms, I use the UV1s on the 10 and 12 and the UV2 on my 14 floor tom. But, I also use Aquarian Studio Rings on the toms, and I really lie that focused tone result.

    Kenny I too am rockin the UV2's! They are incredible as you've shown here. Got them on 12x8, 16x14 toms with Evans reso heads and on my Pork pie 14x6.5 brass snare. They've been on my kit since last spring and went through a summer tour and even by this weekend (almost end of December) still look like new heads! I can't recommend these enough!

      So we are totally in agreement. Amazing drum heads that last forever. 🤗🤗🤗 On the Decemberists I only changed his snare head a few times as it just sounded, and played great. Kenny , THX for the Exciting Video. Love the Enthusiasm! How do you compare the UV2s to the G2s Coated for the Toms. I definitely didn't like it for my 2 Snares (maple 14 X 5.5 and a DW Brass 14 X 6.5). Been usinh HD Drys on both Snares.

      I find them to be a bit brighter, with a bit more rebound. Like a single ply feel/sound, but with 2 ply tone, and toughness. Thank you so much for watching, and commenting.

    Im a big fan of coated G12s over EC Resos on my toms for bags of tone and potential sustain. How would you say these compare Kenny?

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another great combo. 💥💥You get all the feel/roar of a coated single ply with a more controlled/focused sustain w/the EC2 Reso. I’m starting to really like the EC2 Reso for heavier/thuddier toms without killing all the sustain. If a durable single ply is what’s needed you got the right one. 🙌 in comparison I think your setup would have a bit more open of a tone. Thank you so much for watching, and commenting. As i’m telling everyone 🤗 Super Thanks is now available on my vids to help support my channel 🙏

      @@KennySharretts I just got a set UV2’s after watching this! Can I get your recommendation on what tom reso heads I should be using? I currently use Evans EC Reso’s, but am wondering about using clear G1’s instead? Thank you!!

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyRyHammy it depends on what you want. Clear G1's will give you a more open, and resonant tone like I have in this video. The EC Reso's will still have a sweet sustain, but it will be shorter, darker, and more focused. Perhaps even more punchy. Definitely more controlled. Thank you so much for watching. Hey Kenny, quick question. I used to use Evans but found that they seemed to lose their life after about 2 or 3 weeks. Have you found this issue too, or is it something/a fix that I was just not picking up on? Thanks.

    • @peteyaskovic5567
      @peteyaskovic5567 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too was all Remo all the time and they're amazing. What I like about the Evans is that they are a bit darker and drier which for my band I felt works better (Country Rock). The UV2s are incredibly durable compared to their other models in my opinion. I got about a month out of the HD Dry, but the UV2s on my main snare has held up for over 5 months of continual playing. The coating hasn't even come off anywhere on the head! I don't like the normal Evans heads coating because gaff tape pulls off large spots of the coating which is annoying. The UV2 coating does not do this! Hope this helps!

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find a lot of it depends on how much you stretch the head before you tune up. I've had a few "lose" their life (same with Remo), but in general my Evans heads last just as long as all the others. What I will say is sometimes if they stretch unevenly Evans can have "low spots" where you really have to balance the head. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching, and as I'm telling everyone Super Thanks is now available on my vids to help support my channel.

      @@KennySharretts Well I've decided to switch back to Evans! I've been using Aquarian for a bit now, and they do sound great, but I was having an issue with a lot of rebound off the pedal beater and it still persisted even after switching beater types and a larger port hole. My drum guy then told me how Aquarian's Mylar tends to be more rigid than Evans and Remo, causing more rebound, so I tried a clear emad and it made the difference!
