Question: Have frontier router/ switch. Disable WiFi on it. Fios goes into it. Then “Switch” --as you call it --then connects to Eero pro 6 router. From the existing “switch” I have one going to video cameras separate system And a wired connection going to office. In the office I have a Eero (earlier version). I connected this to Ethernet connection. Should I have connected this from my eero 6 pro instead of switch to get full band width? Or does it matter. ? Originally I would have thought the FIOS tech would have connected to Eero from ISP then to existing router/switch to use additional port.s He said it didn’t matter. Also, this begs the question of If I connect wired in the office could I set it up as it’s own network. Thanks in advance.

What is setup is better for a Wired backhaul? I'll be using tp link 8 port Unmanaged Switch to Eero 6 plus mesh A. Modem -> Eero main - > Switch - > Eero ext -> Eero ext( Extenders are Daisy chained) - This setup takes 2 slots from the Switch B. Modem -> Eero main - > Switch - > Eero ext (Directly connected to the Switch) and another Eero ext (Directly connected to the Switch) - This setup takes 3 slots from the Switch I'm not sure if any of these setup is correct or is there a better setup you can recommend? Thank you.
Glad I found your video. Getting the Eero Pro 6 3-pack to expand and separate my WiFi coverage. I have my own TP-LINK access points linked via Cat 6 for my main LAN, but needed something for my Ring cameras in areas where running cat 6 would be difficult to install a new TP-LINK access point. The Eero mesh solves that. I plan to have one act as a new separate network router just for Ring and other IoT devices, and use the 2 others to connect wirelessly to the new router (one outside on the front porch, one outside on the back porch each enclosed in weather proof PVC utility enclosures. Since I have power at each porch, that should work. I did not know you could daisy chain the Eeros via ethernet. I may look into doing that if/when I get around to replacing my TP-LINK system to those areas where I have cat 6 is run. I'm hoping I do not have too much interference having 2 separate WiFi networks. Thanks again for explaining the options. That really helped.
Great video and easy to follow! I have 4 Eero Pro 6E routers. Can I do a wired backhaul to connect all 4 routers (modem - main router - switch - router - router - router)?
Very confusing for a novice setting up the Eero system. Believe it would have been better had you done a separate video on adding switch boxes to a setup. Thank you… PT
option 3 , why would you use a switch to send it to another router? wouldnt you want to just hook it directly to an available switch port? or do you do it with the 2nd router for devices that are wifi ?
Do you have a starter guide on what you mentioned about “having more than 256 devices or clientes but it loses the scope of this video”. I need that! Any recommendations? Thanks. Great video!
If you need more than 256 clients, you need to adjust the subnet mask to allow for more and get a business class router. I haven’t played with ubiquiti but i hear they’re good.
Great VDO on Mesh WiFi. My home are wired with Ethernet and I would like to have WiFi in all rooms with same SSID. Should I go with Mesh WiFi or Unifi network? Also with Mesh WiFi can I connect all nodes to switches as star network (not daisy chain)?

if you have a pro eero wifi router and eero mesh wifi router and a Pro 6 wifi router, which one should you use first? to your cable modem via ethernet? and you use the remaining routers as extenders or use the remining routers as another router.
What’s the benefit of plugging your desktop of whatever PC you have by your gateway router into the gateway router and not directly into your modem? What kind of speed increase did you see by plugging in hardline into a eero that’s acting as an access point rather than just connecting wirelessly?
Not sure if your modem is a modem router combo but if it’s just a modem, then you typically have one working Ethernet port that is providing internet access which you connect your eero pro 6 into. At this point, to get access to the network and internet, you would need to plug in to the eero or switch or connect wirelessly to it. Connecting via Ethernet is preferred since it’s a hardwire connection that supports full duplex instead of half duplex like WiFi does. Typically (not always), Ethernet is preferred over WiFi
AWESOME! Presentation! I am glad I discovered your "show and demonstrate by example" method. I noticed at about 7:mins and 10 seconds into the presentation you show a 8 port D Link unmanaged switch. I was trying to see the specs on the devices you were working with to compare a new setup I am considering but I don't see that 8 Port D-Link Unmanaged Switch on Amazon or Best Buy. Can you give me the model number please. Thank you very much for your tutorial. I have subscribed and will continue to watch and like your videos.
Thanks! I don't have the model number since I no longer have that particular switch. It's just a basic unmanaged 8 port gigabit switch. You can pick up any brand unmanaged gigabit switch and it would be fine. To be more specific, unlike the mesh system like eero in this case where all nodes have to be eero's for them to work together. You can use any brand switch you want with any mesh system you want. Just look for an unmanaged switch that handles at least gigabit speeds and you should be good to go. There should be a link in the description section. Thanks for watching!
Great explanation. I have the eero Pro 6 (3-pack). It hooked up to the Spectrum cable modem. The wired connection gives me 400mbps (my Spectrum plan). However, the wireless connection gives me around 90mbps all around the house. Wonder why? Spectrum technician blames it on the eero. Thanks...
Omg thank you for making this video, this is super helpful! Dumb question, my ISP provides a modem and router 2 in 1 combined device. There are 4 ports at the back back or the modem /router. Can I just connect all 3 eero devices to the modem/router to link them all? Or I could only link them via an unmanaged switch? Sorry if this has been answered before already. Thank you
No problem. No, that can't be done. One eero connects to the modem, the other eeros either connect to the main eero, either going through each other or through a switch. Modem > eero > 2nd eero > 3rd eero Or Modem > eero > switch > other eeros You would need to put your modem/router in bridge mode or disable the router of your modem/router combo
This is excellent content. Question: If you connect a second eero router via ethernet (option3), does the second router adopt the name and password of the master router automatically?
New sub here. Good vids. I love that you’re just giving needed information and not trying to dazzle everyone with your knowledge and IT jargon. I just got Mediacom xtream (1gb) internet service a few weeks ago and am using their er combo for now. I was going to go with a netgear ($430)nighthawk ax6000 dual band m/r combo with 4 out going ports on board m/r combo or two eero 6 pro routers and a multi port switch. I need the extra ports and my home is under 2000Sq feet and yes we stream a lot I want to go with the nighthawk For simplicity, convenience and cost savings. If I go with the two eeros pro 6’ routers a doc 3.1 modem and a switch I’m up to at least $600. Is it really worth it to spend the extra 200+$$.
Thanks! I appreciate it! It really depends on you, if you're fine with the nighthawk range which is probably ok for a 2000 sq. ft. Home then it's not worth the extra $200 for the eero Pro 6. There are 2 advantages of 2 eero Pro 6 routers in comparison to the nighthawk which both might be useless to you. 1. It's a tri band router meaning it can handle more wifi devices. The difference becomes noticeable with more wifi devices. 2. It will have more wifi coverage and range compared to the nighthawk which again might be useless to you. Hope this helps!
Is there a limit on routers that can be wired together? In my case, I will need 3 or 4 depending on coverage. Also, how far away do these router generally reach a wifi enabled mobile?
Great video. Just got my eero from Frorntier fiber. They gave me a modem and two eero units. I would like to not have to buy a couple of switches. I have an existing router set up as an ap in my sons bedroom. He needs/wants hard wired connections for his PC, Xbox other stuff. Could I leave his router as an AP hard wired to eero, or should I convert my existing routers into switches.? Both routers being Asus.
Wonderful! One question: Just replaced my Eero Pro with the Eero Pro 6 - so should I re-use the old Eero Pro (and beacons) or get newer generation satellites?
Thanks! Up to you, they will work just fine however the eero pro doesn't support wifi 6. If the internet speeds near the eero Pro beacon are "less" important than just stick with what you have. If you want the absolute best from the eero Pro 6, then replace them all. Again it really depends on your situation. I would probably try it with what you have and if it works sufficiently, then you're good to go.
Oh wow ! Very thorough and informative.. Ok one thing what about the other wired connection using wired extenders like the Netgear Powerline . Do they work.. Ps. Should I keep my router in a closet .. thanks keep up the good work..!!!
Thanks! I haven’t tried those type of extenders, looks like they should work. You can keep the router in the closet, but just a heads up, the more “walls, doors, obstructions” the lower the range and the speeds. Will it be noticeable? maybe not if you’re close but as you get farther away, possibly.
No problem! Plug it in directly to any eero. If you are running out of ports to connect it to, get an unmanaged switch (links on description section), plug the eero to that to expand your ethernet ports. Plug it into the unmanaged switch.
Such a useful video, thanks. One question, can you use both wired and wireless backhual in one set up e.g three eero pro 6 routers, one as the main router, one of the nodes wired to the main router and one set up wirelessly?
Can I use a switch before the Eero gateway and after my AT&T fiber modem? Example: AT&T fiber modem ->ethernet->switch->ethernet->another Eero Pro6 e(as mesh but hard wired to main AT&T model through a switch) While also having Eero Pro6 Gateway directly plugged into the modem on another port
Hi, how about putting a switch next to modem and then connect both routers to the switch. This will put these mesh routers in parallel rather than series order. If one goes out of power another one can still be providing internet. Plz advise…
hi i just switch my internet provider and im suppose to be getting the eero pro 6e router i am a gamer/streamer what would be the best way and or switch i need to hard wire my pc
Does the extender automatically connect to the router? What if I am using two extenders as a chain to the far side of my home? Will the second extender auto connect through the first extender?
Yes they automatically connect assuming they are setup in the app. All extenders will try to connect to the main router first but if unable to reach then typically it will go through another extender which will slow it down even further.

if you have a pro eero wifi router and eero mesh wifi router and a Pro 6 wifi router, which one should you use first? to your cable modem via ethernet? and you use the remaining routers as extenders or use the remining routers as another router.

Thanks...
Make sure you are connecting with a 5GHz device. Try updating the firmware and restarting all the eero's
Did you ever resolve this issue kha?
Omg thank you for making this video, this is super helpful! Dumb question, my ISP provides a modem and router 2 in 1 combined device. There are 4 ports at the back back or the modem /router. Can I just connect all 3 eero devices to the modem/router to link them all? Or I could only link them via an unmanaged switch? Sorry if this has been answered before already. Thank you
No problem. No, that can't be done. One eero connects to the modem, the other eeros either connect to the main eero, either going through each other or through a switch.
Modem > eero > 2nd eero > 3rd eero
Or
Modem > eero > switch > other eeros
You would need to put your modem/router in bridge mode or disable the router of your modem/router combo
This is excellent content. Question: If you connect a second eero router via ethernet (option3), does the second router adopt the name and password of the master router automatically?
Thanks! and yes, it becomes part of the mesh network.
New sub here.
Good vids.
I love that you’re just giving needed information and not
trying to dazzle everyone with
your knowledge and IT jargon.
I just got Mediacom xtream (1gb) internet service a few weeks ago and am using their
er combo for now.
I was going to go with a netgear ($430)nighthawk ax6000 dual band m/r combo with 4 out going ports on board m/r combo
or two eero 6 pro routers and a multi port switch.
I need the extra ports and my home is under 2000Sq feet
and yes we stream a lot
I want to go with the nighthawk
For simplicity,convenience and cost savings.
If I go with the two eeros pro 6’ routers a doc 3.1 modem and a switch
I’m up to at least $600.
Great video. Thank you
You are welcome!
very helpful
The eero routers do not allow you to change channels. That feature is supposedly up for consideration in the future by its development team.
Well done!
Thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank You ❤💚
No problem
@@landpet I would love for you if possible to do a real world test to see if that could be a 5th option.. thanks again
@@russelllowery9099 Thanks, I'll keep it in mind.
Great Video! Any suggestions or be practice on how to connect my WD My Cloud External Hard Drive? Thank you in advance.
Thanks! and yes you can mix and match wired and wireless backhaul in the same network.
@@landpet perfect, thank you!
Can I use a switch before the Eero gateway and after my AT&T fiber modem? Example: AT&T fiber modem ->ethernet->switch->ethernet->another Eero Pro6 e(as mesh but hard wired to main AT&T model through a switch)
While also having Eero Pro6 Gateway directly plugged into the modem on another port
No
Hi, how about putting a switch next to modem and then connect both routers to the switch. This will put these mesh routers in parallel rather than series order. If one goes out of power another one can still be providing internet. Plz advise…
Modem needs to go to router first, after that you have a lot more options. Hope this helps
hi i just switch my internet provider and im suppose to be getting the eero pro 6e router i am a gamer/streamer what would be the best way and or switch i need to hard wire my pc
