    What I love about this style of review is that it's like you've gone over to your techie mate's house and asked him for an opinion, and he's been testing that exact stuff this week. An informal, honest appraisal without the over-produced gloss. This review comes across as very sincere and trustworthy - keep up the great work :o)

      Yep, hands down the most informative Eero 6/Extender/6 Pro review I’ve found. Really showed me the difference between the different configs (wired and wireless) and different hardware options (and even answered the question as to whether a router acting as a wireless AP can hook up to other devices via Ethernet, and their corresponding speeds depending on config).

    Your tests where really really good. Glad to see you covered so many options. Actually ran into this thru looking at your review of the TP Link 6E router you reviewed. I have a Eero Pro 6 but been having some WIFI issues with it lately where my Alexas are hanging when playing spotify randomly. Since Eero lacks modifiying settings, i was thinking of going back to a TP Link or the Netgear Nighthawk series for more customization in the console. I will say i dont like that Eero doesnt let you create your own separate 2.4 and 5 ghz channel, basically bc they think your too dumb to do it lol.

And the Pro 6 system has been working fabulously since I set it up.....well worth the price!!!....plus now you can get a FireTV cube for no additional cost.

    Excellently presented review, you earned a sub out of me! You've really helped me narrow down my choices.
    After watching this video, I'm currently debating between the Eero Pro 6 three pack and the Orbi of similar specs. I'm running Utopia fiber and paying for gigabyte speed, do you know if the Eero Pro 6 can achieve near gigabyte speeds over wifi, or am I going to be overpaying for service unless I LAN into most of my devices?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I appreciate it! Unfortunately the fastest device I have is not fast enough to get to gigabit lan. Waiting for the new macbook pro 16". But from the other comments say they pretty much got a gig even accessing the internet so I'm sure you can get that wirelessly on your lan. I do get that easily via ethernet also, that's something I have tested.

  • @turnerstechtalk7737
    @turnerstechtalk7737 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wireless backhaul is key for sure!! Orbi was the first I saw to do this and their speeds were insane! Unfortunately, their firmware was super buggy and drove me insane so I switch back to Eero. Definitely gonna upgrade to Eero Pro 6. The prices have dropped dramatically from when I first got into Eero so it's almost a no brainer now.

    Great review. I have been stressing over buying a mesh system and which one for a few weeks now so this is perfect timing. One thing I have not narrowed in on is I live in a larger sq ft house with 2 floors and am accumulating a growing number of wifi/smart devices but I live out in the country with radio tower internet (15mbps). Would the eero 6 pro still be beneficial due to size of house and # of devices even though it may be overkill on the incoming internet speed side?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Well regardless of speed, the eero Pro 6 has farther reach compared to the eero 6. So in my case when I went outside to the point the eero 6 wasn't working, the eero Pro 6 still was working and getting me decent speeds, they obviously are both using the same internet in my case. So the eero Pro 6 is going to provide you with more range. Another thing to note, the 15mbps you mentioned is just from your house to the internet, I'm not sure if your streaming videos or copying files locally on your network where it's on a network attached storage. Those will also benefit from the stronger range and speed of the eero Pro 6. Off topic, whenever SpaceX actually releases their satellite internet to the general public, then that might be something you can look into as well, can get much faster speeds with that.
      The only thing I see in your case that will make the eero Pro 6 worth it is the fact you said you have a larger home. As a result you may get away with using one less eero if you went with the eero Pro. As an example, let's say you had to use 4 eero 6's to cover your entire place, you may get away with just using 3 eero Pro 6's to cover that same distance.
      The reason I mentioned the things above is to say that the eero Pro 6 still has advantages over the eero 6 regardless of your internet speeds. Do you need the eero Pro 6, I don't think so, I think the eero 6 will work just fine but I do like to layout advantages and different scenarios to help make decisions easier. Personally I'm just very impressed with the WiFi range and speeds of the eero Pro 6. Granted I will be testing the Netgear Orbi shortly so my opinion might change once I compare that to the eero Pro 6.

      @@landpet how far will it typically extend (pro 6). I’m trying to extend from my house out to my pool house/office. About 100 feet. Would two pro 6’s do the trick?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonfooks5660 It depends on how much interference there is, if there is nothing between the 100ft (edge of house to edge of office, no other walls, no other interference). Then you might be ok with just two. If it doesn't work out well because of the range, you can try the TP Link X68 or the ASUS XT8, those did better during my range tests however range varies from place to place and the eero Pro 6 is a solid mesh wifi.

    The second 5GHz band is for backhaul connectivity between access points only. This ensures that the backhaul connection doesn't share bandwidth with client devices on the 5GHz band. The Netgear Orbi has 3 bands as well and maintains internet speeds across all access points.

    Great video! In your video, when you did the ethernet backhaul, how close were the two routers? Were the routers right next to each other connected with an ethernet cable, or was the second router far away in another room, and you connected an ethernet cable to the wall (I'm not sure how ethernet backhaul works logistically)?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Routers are about 40 ft apart. Logistically when it's ethernet backhaul, distance doesn't matter too much so as long as it's not too far (less than 100 meters). Realistically you want to out them far enough apart to cover your home.

    We upgraded from eero pro mesh system to the new eero 6 pro mesh system. It is a rock solid router. Trouble free and we have a lot of wireless devices (76 in total) on the system. We also use the $99 per year subscription and it is worth the peace of mind. We have AT&T Gigabyte 1000 plan and we are getting 1Gb down and 979 up. Awesome.

      Hey Scott! I've been waiting for someone like you forever! I've finally found someone that has a LOT of devices connected in their home! I'm right around 75 right now, and absolutely HATE my Comcast gateway that limits me to 32 devices on the 2.4GHz network, and 32 devices on the 5GHz network. I've got a Netgear extender helping me with the other devices. About to try Comcast's latest WiFi 6 gateway tomorrow, but based on my research, I'm sure I'm going back to owning my own equipment again. Just worried about going over my 1TB monthly limit. So what exactly do you suggest/recommend I go with? Thanks!

      @@P0LSKI Well we have no Dara limits with AT&T as when we moved in three years ago the only option was AT&T. About year ago Comcast came into our neighborhood too but I have remained with AT&T. As for recommendations, we have eero pro 6 mesh system and based on my research this is the best you can get. We have main eero hard wired to AT&T modem/router with other two eero pro 6 wirelessly set up on second floor. I think you will be pleased with this system and never look back.

    • @P0LSKI
      @P0LSKI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Scott. The one thing that's holding me back is the Eero's inability to split the networks into separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Setting up IOT devices limited to 2.4GHz only is a nightmare too, Have you found the band steering to be effective? Meaning, do your devices STAY on the 5GHz bands? I can't have my Galaxy Note keep bouncing back and forth from the 2.4GHz to the 5GHz bands. I really wish you could create multiple networks! Thanks again!

    Thanks for the great reviews. I do have a question. Have you tried an option with the bridge mode? I'm really curious about the speed because I prefer wired connection but in my house I can only wire it back to the modem but can't wire the 2nd and 3rd eero to the 1st eero gateway. Would the bridge mode be faster than the wireless backhaul? Thanks.

    Thank you. This was a great review. I am in the process of pairing down my cable/internet costs since my provider has increased my prices for the third time this year. Have Eero wifi devices now, but paying monthly rental charges from my provider. Figure I can buy and will pay for itself in 10 months to year. Going to do same with my router as well. Eventually plan on ditching cable all together in favor of streaming services since bulk of cable providers costs are in device rentals and unknown crazy surcharges and taxes not to mention ever increasing cable franchise fee to local municipality. Now paying $253/month and figure I can half my costs by owning my own equipment and buy streaming services. Have to get wifey up to speed as she isn’t tech savvy and would rather use the cable tv remote for tv watching.

    Hey dude! Appreciate the review, I was actually asking myself these exact same things. Have you ever made these tests combining an Eero Pro 6 with an Eero 6? I only have 1 Eero Pro 6 and was wondering if the change in the speeds comes from the router sending the signal or the access point receiving it (or even a combination of both) just to see if I could save some money buying a couple Eero 6's instead of getting just one more Eero Pro 6.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Combination of both but realistically the slower of the two is what you can expect. It all depends on how fast you need the internet to be in the other places, if not too fast then go with the regular eero 6

    A fantastic review, thank you so much. I finally understood the difference between eero and eero pro. I have been reading the comments but didn‘t find my specific challenge. Our walls are up to 20 inches thick. Potentially a strong wireless will better get through them. But a cable connection might be the better alternative. Our farmhouse is more than 200 years old, many of the walls have visible stone structure. Installing cables is not my first choice at all. I would prefer wireless. But do you think we have a chance to overcome this challenge with (obviously) the Pro eero?

    • @landpet

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries. Yes I did. With wired backhaul it's pretty much the same as two eero Pro 6's except with slightly less range when you start walking away from the eero 6. On wireless backhaul, an eero Pro 6 and an eero 6 work better than an eero 6 and another eero 6, but not by much. eero Pro 6 with another eero Pro 6 definitely works better than an eero Pro 6 and an eero 6. Reason is that the eero Pro 6 is a triband where the eero 6 is a dual band, so the eero 6 is missing an entire band that would speed it up in wireless backhaul. Hope this makes sense.
