Zygarde was not on the list because 1) in X & Y there was, like, no fanfare to him? Like, I didn't even know he existed until months later? Eternatus and Mewtwo had better clues to them.
And 2) he next appeared as a collect-a-thon prize. Not a legendary to be feared. I guess I stick him more as an Easter egg or mythical than an actual box legendary.

If only Pokémon Z was finished, but Sun and Moon took priority over it.
I'm not saying it should be high on the list, heck I was expecting it to be on the bottom, but it feels like it has about as much right to be there as Mewtwo does what with it being part of the same legendary trio as Xerneas and Yveltal
I mean...it still serves the same role as Mewtwo though...and what about the Regis? They were even more secretive with how irl it took longer then usual for the average player to find them.
The main reason for Solgaleo being a lion is due to the alchemic symbol of the lion that devours the sun, which would fit it's steel type and how much metals are focused on in alchemy.
We had a dog(or wolf)in gen 7 and got two in gen 8. Also in gen 5 we got a deer, a vulture, and a snake and guess what the gen 6 legendary are.
The moment you said "the lion devours the sun", I got some major Virtue's Last Reward flashbacks. Now I know what it means though, kind of...
What about the constellation Leo which looks like it eating the sun?

6:40 that was kinda the point. Kyurem is supposed to be the tiny fragments and final piece of the dragon Pokémon all three legendaries came from. It’s in character for him to look broken and stuff.
Just because it's the point, does not mean it looks good nor does it mean that it works well.
There are good ways to make a broken design work, Kyurem kinda doesn't, now that i think of isn't it weird that unova's (american poke-region) main legendaries are based on chinese taoism?
And the fusion of Kyurem and either Reshiram or Zekrom looks kinda messed up is because it's a failed attempt at recreating the original dragon.
As someone who doesn’t just have Necrozma as their favorite Legendary, but favorite Pokémon period, that beginning felt like a slap to the face.

For me it’s a kick in the balls with both Necrozma AND Kyurem in the last two spots with these two being some of my favorite Legendaries and Kyurem being one of my favorite Pokémon overall
To be fair, outside of being the progenitor of the new gimmick, Necrozma has nothing original to call its own. Its other forms were copy-&-paste from the preceding Third Legendries.
Necrozma is one of my favorites because it tried to do something different and interesting with what was given before. Aka what this video over looked in spades.
Agreed, how is the legendary being the antagonist with one of the hardest boss battles in pokemon history boring?
I wonder if some salt from that battle influenced that ranking.
Let's add to the reason why Giratina is the best legendary by these standards... Character growth. No, seriously, Giratina has character growth. Legends Arceus has Giratina try to remake the world to get back at Arceus for its banishment... But, in gen 4's Platinum, it is the one to stop Cyrus's plan. Not the player, not Cynthia, Giratina. And Cyrus's plan isn't to dissimilar to Volo's. Plus... I believe that the text in Platinum states that Giratina is studying you calmly prior to your fight to try to catch it, like as though you remind it of the trainer that calmed it in the past.
Exactly, I was hoping Ari and Count would mention that…Because you end up humbling it in the past by defeating it in a rather harrowing battle, it decides to protect and fight alongside humans instead, and essentially becomes Poke’Batman, watching over and protecting man and Pokémon from the shadows, and striking fear into those unfortunate and/or foolish enough to provoke it’s fury. You showed it the strength of the bonds between people and Pokémon, and now it fights to protect those bonds…And I think that’s really fuckin’ neato.

Isn't Arceus described as "having a thousand hands"? Maybe the pokemon itself is one of these "hands".
Yvetal isn't based on a ghost. It's based on a mythical bird, condors, and vultures. Thus dark flying. Yes it is a reaper bird but ghosts aren't masters of death but exist in spite of it.
Yvetal being a Vulture (a bird that eats already dead animals), makes a lot of sense now that I think about it.
Guiding souls to the underworld has consistently been associated with the Ghost type, as has bringing death via the Litwick evolutionary family, so Yveltal is part of the unusually high number of Pokémon that would easily work with STAB that they lack without making any design changes. However, the path we got is serviceable as well.
So, the reason Solgaleo is a lion is because he's a reference to alchemy. He's referred to as the "beast that devours the sun" and a lion eating the sun is a common symbol in alchemy, and Galileo, one of the influences in Solgaleo's etymology, was a confirmed believer in alchemy. It's honestly some of my favorite design lore in the series

@@bookmew1081 and it's not like the first one has real connections to Brotherhood. It's similar to watching Hellsing Ultimate and not watching the first Hellsing anime. That might not apply to Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos before the first anome though
@@ejelecflametails6657 Brotherhood skips plenty of stuff from the manga though. There was clearly the intended order to see the 1st Anime before Brotherhood with how the 1st 13 Episodes of the latter were. Many spoilers for the 1st anime are just glossed over such as the Final Homuculus Identity in that series.
Sailor Moon on the other hand doesn't really matter whether you watch 90s Anime or Crystal 1st because the series are much more different. There aren't really any huge spoilers for the 1st Anime that Crystal reveals. Of course the Cosmos movie may end up changing that.
I agree with Griatina being creepy as hell. I always liked that it was so feared, yet so necessary to the creation trio. You can't have light without shadow, matter without anti-matter. As a long time comic fan, his intro in Platinum gave me serious flashbacks to Crisis on Infinite Earths. If fictional characters had their own pokemon teams, the Giratina would definitely be under the thrall of the Anti-Monitor (or Darkseid in a pinch).
Giratina is creepy (even more so in Legends Arceus) and so is Darkrai (for how it shows up in the same game and especially in the anime with it's uncanny legs).

Giratina is a favorite legendary of mine too and apparently according to the pokemon lore, Giratina was banished to the distortion world by Arceus due to it's violent behavior which adds a coolness to Giratina who controls antimatter
In comp play, there is one BIG reason why Lunala's typing is so unfortunate.

You know, that move that already does 65 damage but if your holding an item it's damage gets increased by 50%
And like, half of all pokemon can learn it, and with items being vital to competitive you can absolutely expect at least one pokemon to know it.

Suicune is a box-art legendary and Mewtwo is not a mascot of any Pokémon game. Suicune got ditched for a legendary that's just there.
When Reshiram and Zekrom were basically Pokemon versions of the Blue Eyes White Dragon and the Red Eyes Black Dragon...you're not even off the mark.

Rip Zygarde, he’s literally the balance between Xerneas and Yveltal, and he’s based on Hel, Fenrir, and Jormungandr.

RIP Suicune Ari not only forgets he was a box legendary for Crystal but also forgets that he is water type.
Let's face it, the only bad thing about zygarde is that game freak screwed it over and never gave him a proper introduction outside of the anime.
I would argue that Kyurem looks incomplete because it is incomplete. That's it. That's all I have to say.
I swear, with every talk of "darkness" and "fear" I was worried that Giratina was going to be on anything lower than S tier, only to be faked out with the black and white dragons. Giratina is my favorite legendary, and Platinum is my favorite game in the series.
I'm more disappointed that Shadow Lugia (XD Gale of Darkness) & Shadow Mewtwo (Pokken Tournament) weren't mentioned.
Fun fact: Lugia is the one Pokemon that Takeshi Shudo (The head writer for the Pokemon anime at the time) got to design.

I think the idea is that fused kyurem looks disjointed and off on purpose, since it is an incomplete union

Honestly, this tier list had a lot of misinformation that could easily be, ya know, researched.
I still like the ultra games! I like it more than OG Sun and Moon, and Gen 7 is actually up there as one of more favorable gens. Not the best, that’s Gen 4 but still up there
agreed in all areas BUT the main story itself I feel like the Ultra games are superior...everything but the main beats of the story felt like the differences in the platinum to diamond and pearl, but man...while I like the new love necrozma was given by them...man did they trip at the finish line with the story
@@SuperGamefreak18 well, unpopular opinion, but I kind of prefer Lusamine being egotistical that lead to her defeat, rather than obsession with the Ultra Beasts. To each their own I suppose but that’s my preference.
@@joegreen3802 that's also fine...if they actually changed the story just a bit more to make her of a misguided person than leaving the elements of when she was still the main villian...that would be fine...but they left the story the EXACT same....then changed the last bit...very last bit
@@SuperGamefreak18 well, I mean she was always egotistical even in Sun and Moon. They just put more on it in the Ultra Games. But I was never a fan of the obsession she had with the Ultra Beasts. I kind of think her saying she hates them makes more sense. Sure they could have added more change, but I still liked it over the original. Also Ultra Necrozma was a much tougher boss than Lusamine was.
I only liked the Sun & Moon Story & several of the characters (& Pokemon) when it came to Gen 7 considering Alola itself 1 of the worst regions in Pokemon with the Ultra Wormholes being so much more interesting. Gen 4 was easily the best Generation for Pokemon though.
Small note, Reshiram isn't weak to fairy because it's part fire type.

So, Gamefreak classifies Legendaries as Pokémon that are catchable within the game, via in-game events.
While Mythical Pokémon are those provided through events.
So the Birds, Dogs, Tapus, and Regi’s are all Legendaries. Not Mythical.
Pokémon like Mew, Deoxys, Celebi and Hoopa are Mythical since they were first distributed through real life events
Gonna hard disagree with count on reshiram. There is NO way a naive, stubborn child brought up to ignore what's going on outside his little bubble should attract the EMBODIMENT OF TRUTH.
You could look at it that way, or you could see it as N learning the truth as he takes flight with Reshiram. It still works in a way.
@@CountShaman Nah. White had a lot of the best things (better exclusives, better opalucid, definitely the better post-game exclusive area), but the story just doesn't make sense if the naive boy with dreams of a "perfect world" isn't partnered with the Pokemon of ideals.

Edit: I think Ari mentioning how only Legendaries have Psychic/Ghost is actually the last nail in that dual type's coffin. Without Legendary tier stats, that typing is suicide.
39:31 This is true for me and my favorite Legendary/Pokemon, Latias. I loved how expressive Latias was and just how fun/cute she was, I may like cool mons but Latias always has a spotlight for me because of that movie and her antics in that movie.

Too bad the azurite flute wasn't distributed at the time of fourth gen. Literally the whole event was implemented and didn't allow us to basically fight god. The reason? They thought we weren't smart enough to go to Mt. Coronet and use the flute there when in the previous gen they made us solve riddles in braile to get the three regis.
5:31 I feel like I need to defend my boy Kyurem here. Yeah, he feels incomplete, even when he fuses with his brother/sister, but that was the intention. Making him complete with only 2/3 of the original being wouldn't have made sense, at all.

Well, I can't think of any other legendary that GF hasn't pushed more than Mewtwo, having two Megas, three movies, major apparitions in spin-offs and manga and also being outright playable in Melee, Ultimate and Pokken.
yeah, the only difference between mewtwo and rayquaza is that the dragon type is more popular than the psychic one, but other than that, both are overutilized powerhouses

There's actually a huge amount lore regarding Zacian and Zamazenta and about Eternatus first arrival into the Galar region with almost every town and city having some kind of connection with it.
However, you're confusing the fake legend of the darkest day (the one that talks about a hero that saved the galar region with a sword and a shield) with the actual (lost and rediscovered) legend of the darkest day (the one that talks about how Zacian and Zamazenta were the ones that saved the Galar region from tbe darkest day 3000 years ago). And that they were summoned by the ancestors of Swordward and Shieldbert (just like you, the player and Hop also did using the lost relics to summon them) to save the region.
Not to mention that the design and lore of every legendary in Galar is heavily tied to several constelations. It's actually pretty cool.

technically Ho-oH is a chinese seven colored bird not a Phionex but its name is actually the fusion of the name for the two chinese phionex as each gender had a diffrent name so since it is genderless its name is a fusion of both genders names
after Legends Arceus, i gotta give this to Giritina, oh boy that thing goes through some changes over the plot overall.
Lugia at first was going to be an anime exclusive, but Pokémon Company loved the design and lore so much that they gave it its own game, that's why in second gen we got three versions: Gold, Silver and Crystal.
Yveltal might possibly be based on Hræsvelgr, giant eagle residing in Helheim

I never got the "Legendary Beasts are dogs" theory. Like, what kind of dog is Raikou supposed to be? it looks nothing like one. even the other two seem like a stretch. Entei's a lion, Suicune's a leopard, and Raikou is a (Sabretooth) tiger.
As for the silhouettes in Generations, pretty sure they aren't meant to be anything specific, just generic mammals.

Entei has retractable claws. That is the textbook definition of a Felid (cat family). It's how you know a footprint is cat vs dog.
As for Raikou it is so obviously a cat!
Suicune I can accept being a dog mostly because the longer muzzle is a Canid trait.

Well, this was definitely interesting. While not in tier list order, my favourites in no order are;
- Giratina (SS rank highly deserved)
- Mewtwo (Glad he didn’t get the Charizard treatment, because he’s awesome and completely agree with what you two said)
- Rayquaza (I love my green awesome emerald dragon boy)
- Kyogre (Groudon is cool but I got Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire cause I prefer Kyogre)
- Zekrom (The second I saw him I wanted him, love my edgy black dragon)
- Xerneas (Yveltal is cool but Xerneas is so much more appealing to me)
- Hooh (Gold was the game that got me hooked into Pokémon and I don’t think I would be interested if it wasn’t for the original Phoenix)
- Dialga (Same reasons you two said in the video)
I wish Zygarde got the third game treatment and improved upon X and Y like Platinum did with Diamond and Pearl. He has a cool concept and lore, so under-utilised.
Why isn't Zygarde on the list? If it's cause he isn't on box art, you know who isn't on box art? Mewtwo and Eternatus. But they are on the list. So if it is box only, then Eternatus and mewtwo are breaking the rules. If it isn't box only, Zygarde should be here.
Eternatus is a big title fight in Sword and Shield, so that does fit the rules. Mewtwo on the other hand, fits about as well as Zygarde on this list

Mewtwo gets official BoxArt for a Spinoff Game. If it wasn't for Stats Raikou, Entei, & Suicune would get in for Colosseum.

Ari back at it with the pokemon tier lists. Some of my favorite legendaries are Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, the weather trio, Giratina, Arceus, the tao trio, the life trio, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus.
Edit: I still stand by the forms of Necromza, Kyurem, and the time and space deities. The fused forms of Necrozma and Kyurem are suppose to look unnatural and I love Ultra Necrozma. It's a legendary from ultra space, of course, it looks bizarre. I like the origin forms of Dialga and Palkia because they, along with Giratina, are the first children of Arceus. They are supposed to look eldritch. I get that not everyone will like them, but that's just how I feel.
aww, you left out the best part of Yeveltal. It absolutely adores being interacted with in Pokémon Amie. how on Arceaus' Green Pokeworld does DEATH act so CUTE!

For me, Eternatus is kind of like if one of those eldritch abominations from the last two mystery dungeon games was an actual pokemon

If Eternatus is on this list "not done with the videos" why is he so high up? He dose so much less than Nyctosma and has a lot less and worst lore and moments. The only good thing about it is it's cool Dragon Poison type and the Eternamax form but that form is only seen once in the game with a battle that is basically a cut seen!!!
Great point, while I do think Eternatus has a better design and typing, Zygarde is a lot more interesting storywise. It just sucks that the story he is part of is terrible independent of its own impact on it

I got so flipping excited when you put Kyogre in the S tier!! Sapphire was my first Pokémon game. It got me into Pokémon. It got me into video games. As a result, Kyogre was the first legendary I ever caught, and as a result it’s my favorite legendary ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
7:21 I like these points. But, I think they kinda of disregard the fact that Kyurem looks like that because it’s the remaining piece. It’s what’s left after Resharam and Zekrom split from the Original Dragon.
Giratina rightfully deserves its place at the top and it’s fight in Legends is absolutely amazing. Not to mention it’s animation for Shadow Force when in its Origin form is extremely cool and terrifying.

well, the main reason for Palkia being a water type is that it stands for liquid. Dialga stands for solid and Giratina gas.
And now we have Poison/Steel with Revavroom. Not a legendary, but an odd little 'Mon that everyone hates the design of except me, apparently.

I didn't really like the origin form of palkia at first, but over time it strangely grew on me. It kind of gave me the aesthetic of a pegasus (a draconic space pegasus but still) and if I am remembering my astronomy correctly there is a pegasus constellation and weirdly enough I just feel that kind of works for it. I don't know maybe I am just weird its just a little thing I wanted to get off my chest

In fairness to Kyurem looking “wrong” when fused with Zek or Reshi, and “broken” when not, one version of its story DOES say that it’s what’s left over after the Original Dragon broke apart
I regret not watching this sooner. All I can say for certain is that I love this dynamic between Ari and Shaman.

I like to think that Arceus doesn't have a true physical form and that the body that you can catch him in is more of a vessel, kind of like Orochimaru from Naruto. (kind of not completely)

The reason kyurem looks so broken is because he is broken. He is the leftover parts of the original dragon. That also explains why his fusion seem better but not perfect, because it's not the complete form. Its because of the lore that I think kyurem is a better fusion pokemon then Nucrozma
