It’s believed that growing up shy or timid is great for spy work, since you understand how people hide their thoughts and feelings because you used to do so yourself! He literally turns his embarrassing toddler days into sniping super spy skills! Add that to the list of why Sobble is my favorite gen 8 starter!

I have a soft spot for the Tepig line for one reason: Emboar immediately reminded me of Ganon from the Zelda series. That's it. No other reason to pick the other two lol
Glad I ain't the only one that saw the similarities and fell in love. Not to mention that his hidden ability Reckless buffs all those recoil moves of his which when combined with a choice band allows him to basically nuke everything and anything that switches into him into oblivion and who doesn't like a little bit of overkill? Also found him learning scald to be kinda hilarious for some reason. Overall a pretty underrated starter imo. He may not be that great competitively at the end of the day despite the nuke factor and fairly wide offensive movepool, but a fun time in the lower tiers to be sure.
Mine was familiarity with the type combo, as my infernape was the 1 pokemon I went through gen4 with, the gen that made me realize I liked pokemon, yet alone that I was playing a franchise, not just one offs, thanks dumb kid me for not realizing that sooner. Honestly, even then I struggled to figure out why I clicked with infernape but not emboar, and then I figured out what stats are. Seriously, infernape and blaziken are similar if not the same in roles, but emboar challenged my knowledge of typings and how they work, not every fire fighting is a fast powerhouse of burning destruction, not every water type is bulky. It's why I can defend emboar, as he isn't just another fire fighting type, as he played with the concept of that type combination, and I wish they did it more often. Pokemon typings should for the most part have roles, but the combinations could vary drastically as you lean into one or the other, or even this new route completely unique to the combo.
I personally like Emboar because it was the first starter I beat a Pokemon game with. I picked Snivy first, but then I fucking reset at Pinwheel forest because I was a dumb ol goofus and only had Servine. Starting with Gen. 5 means that I don't care that Emboar is the third Fire/Fighting, it actually does something different with it. I like Emboar and Tepig's design, the really thick forearms on Emboar sell it to me, and Tepig is cute, if not a little basic. I like it enough that I can excuse Pignite, and actually praise the little leotard its pattern makes. I think that's neat.
Okay in all seriousness, there is a good reason for Emboar's typing. He's supposed to reference Xu Baji from journey to the west. The friend and partner of Sun Wukong. So yeah he has a reason to be fire fighting. That is why the 2 have some stylistic similarities.
Likewise. Though I'm normally biased to fire types myself I chose Popplio on my first playthrough, and honestly, I love Primarina so I did not regret the chocie at all ^^
Lemme explain about Emboar, look at Infernape's design and back at Emboar. The reason for it if you can find similarities in the design is because of what they're based on: Sun Wukong and the Pig Demon from journey to the west. And that's why I like them both. Also, unpopular opinion. I like every starter equally and I can't really pick which one is better. Feel free to debate in the comments as it won't matter to me. Because opinions are subjective and I wish to see you all fight.
I honestly like all the starters too. Even my least favorite of the bunch, Grookey isn’t a bad Pokémon by any means, I just think that it’s just kind of forgettable compared to the others.
Actually this is false, he's inspired by a different character from a different novel, Zhang Fei from The Romance of The Three Kingdoms. If he does have inspirations from Zhu Baije, the resemblance is very... not there, besides them both being pigs.

Oh, and as someone who enjoys using Emboar... It's time I impart knowledge about its design: It's based on another character from Journey to the West. If Infernape is Sun Wukong, Emboar is Zhu Bajie, a pig demon that became an ally of Wukong and the monk Sanzhang, and wields a rake as a weapon. So, instead of calling Emboar solely a "Bacon on fire" or "just a pig on fire" ... Research its origins first.
This might be a hot take but whenever i see Emboar it reminds of that one Dynasty Warriors game where that one fat warrior has like a huge club weapon to bash enemies with if you know what i mean!
I hope she talks about how weird blastoise is as a pokemon. Seriously, is the only pokemon that has actual cannons. All the others that have something like that are claws shaped like it, mouths shaped like it... It's just weird
Yet more strange is how one with the body these cannons are. (Eyes Empoleon's Typing) I'd gotten a Throh and Sawk clothing impression while reading this, just cause it's possible for Pokemon to have natural adornments, just very infrequent.
I actually really like the Tepig line (still least favorite gen 5 starter though), but I think it would’ve been better if we got a fire/dark warthog final form. Like Dark Beast Ganon from Twilight Princess but smaller. That would’ve been awesome
Ahhhhhh! It's a Pokemon starter tier list this time. Quite a big selection to choose and for the most part they're pretty good throughout the games. Though I'm most curious to see which ones top the best in your eyes Ari.
Seeing Snivy in C tier really hurts my heart cause it's my first starter and my hardest hitter in the team, legit carried my whole team with a Victini in it no less, I will stand my regal queen for life (yes she was a female I got lucky)
Froakie has been my mom's favorite since she laid eyes on it. This is mainly because it's a frog and she is absolutely OBSESSED with frogs but it's also because she has an affinity for looking at characters and seeing their true potential (see her reaction to Neville Longbottom being a Gryffindor). I generally prefer the Water Starters but this is because I have always had an affinity for water in general and I generally just like the Starters in general...just not necessarily evolved.
Believe it or not, we were having a hard time figuring out what to do for the A-tier bit, and I had just watched Kathy Bates' lip sync battle to "Hip Hop Hooray" and I had to and it just naturally popped out
Thank you for the positivity on Chikorita! Gen 2 was my first pokemon game and I was constantly made fun of for choosing the weak, pathetic grass type. Also, yes! Bulbasaur is best grass boy and favorite #001 Pokemon of all time!
Some of the desings of starters are still topics for disscusion though. I've heard many people complain that Samurott should be standing instead of on four legs. And that Typhlosion should have it's fire collar burning always. These things are still used for the big disscusion of 2D vs 3D sprites. Not that I don't understand why.
i might not like Samurott's line much, but i can't imagine it being bipedal at all Typhlosion on the other hand looks absolutly Barren without it's flame collar, ESPECIALLY with how absolutly pale the 3ds game's model coloration tended to be

I'll be honest, the grookey line is my favourite of the gen 8 starters. Rillaboom looks the less anthropomorphic compared to the other two (which issue quite funny considering it is a gorilla).

I have seen you have place my favorite mud-fish boy in his own special tier, Ari and have brought my favorite green ghost... I am blessed to see my favorite Hoenn starter not only on the list but to see him smash it! It’s just like you two said, you never forget your first and for me, Gen 3 gave me and us Mudkip. A great all-round Pokémon to not only be with us on our journey, but it’s survive-ability through the generations

Okay! You both are my favorite. Cyndaquil and its evo line are my favorite pokemon in general. And seeing them in A makes me so happy! I would of put them in S but I wont complain, still a top tier list with a good few others I agree with too.
With my bias for the color blue, water became my favorite type. And ever since having Sapphire as my first Pokémon game, Mudkip and it’s line easily became my favorite starter line. Playing Sapphire also made Kyogre my favorite Legendary, and to this day only a couple come close.
So here’s a fun story, I have a little rule that I always choose the fire type starter first in a new Pokémon generation. Even though the fire types don’t always end up being my favorite of the trios, I generally enjoy the emphasis on powerful attacks and strength that the fire starters go for. However, there are two exceptions I have made to this rule of mine. The first was Litten since I both wasn’t a fan of Incineroar and absolutely adored Decidueye and wanted to choose it first. The second exception was Cinderace. When I first played the gen 8 games, I chose Scorebunny first, however I was not a fan of Cinderace in the slightest once it evolved. By this point in the game, I had also seen the final evolutions for the other two starters and concluded that this was the first time ever that I didn’t like any of the starters for a region. I disliked Cinderace so much that I honestly didn’t even want to keep playing through the game with it. That’s when I had an idea. I had caught a Litwick back in the fire gym, and I had found a dusk stone in the town fifth the fourth gym, so I decided to use the EXP candies I got from raids and the dusk stone to get myself a chandeluer and use it as my fire type starter instead. That’s right, I hated the gen 8 starters so much that I abandoned my Cinderace and used a Chandeluer as my fire starter instead. That’s the only time in my many years of playing Pokémon that I’ve ever abandoned a starter. That should tell you just how much I despise the gen 8 starters. Also, my favorite starter is Delphox, and I can tell you that it absolutely sucks to love the starter that gets curb-stomped by everybody’s favorite frog Greninja while also being overshadowed as a fire starter by everybody’s favorite mega-evolving lizard Charizard. Oh well, this was a great list regardless of all that. Thanks for making it Ari and Wambu. I may not agree with some of your opinions, but I respect them nonetheless.
What's wrong with CInderace? I think it's awesome. I do agree with not liking Incineroar though. I did have a similar thing with picking Fire Starters a lot, but instead, the one the broke that streak for me was Tepig, because I don't like Pignite or Emboar that much, and I love Serperior a lot more, so Snivy is my pick for the Unova game, and so far the only time the Grass Starter ended up being my fave of the trio. Litten was the second time I never chose a Fire Starter because Incineroar was a very disappointing final evo for it, only instead of Rowlet, I chose Popplio, because I found Rowlet kind of overrated, Popplio was always cute to me, and it's evolutions, Brionne and Primarina are adorable and beautiful, and I love them so much. I do think Decidueye is cool though and I feel bad it's overshadowed by it's pre-evolution that I don't even think is that cute.
I’m gonna say this! Emboar should’ve been fire/rock. Give it reckless or rock head as a hidden ability. Flare Blitz, Rock Head, Double Edge, Wild Charge. Perfect.
I think Empoleon’s my favorite. Several come close though, especially sobble if we take into account Gigantamax Inteleon Edit: that being said, I really don’t think I’d put any starter below c, I think the starters are the most consistently good Pokémon
Tepig was my first starter so I have some bias for it although Snivy is my favorite starter in general. Popplio, Turtwig, and Oshawott are also high up on my list

Loved the list and you two were amazing together. I agreed with most of the points made but I'm still a Charmander fan at heart. Although if I had to pick my all time favourite starter it's Totodile. Gold and Silver was my first generation and I loved the hell outta Totodile.
I was never a gamer growing up, but I do have a soft spot for certain pokemon. And my first ever starter was Snivy. I loved my snek boy, and named him Slytherin. I actually have a plush too, but his name changed to include Crowely in the mix. "Slytherin Crowely", what a name right? Wonder if Ari would consider a legendaries tier list?
@@michaelbainbridge7335 Bianca had such a similar arc that had been realized better by traveling with the player and rival. Kukui is the clear standout among professors along with the original Oak who has a slight Sinnoh connection if we can't count the anime. Besides them and Sonia, everyone else including her grandma had next to no role. Elm has that egg bit. Juniper are a daughter/father pair. Birch is your neighbor's father. There's not much reason to rank these characters even if a few did some things at a given time or place.
In terms of “never forget your first”, I started with Diamond and have a strong connection with the Turtwig line. In terms of favorite, though, I have to go with Totodile. Specifically from Gen 4 onward, once the physical/special split and especially Ice Fang became a thing. Forget Fairy types, I’ll take a Feraligatr as my Dragon killer.
As always, fantastic to see you hijacking- I mean, watching over the channel as head of Pokemon (and being one of my favorite Pokemon countdown artists in recent memory), and it was great seeing Wambu again. I remember when I first saw his channel, back before he became a Chandelure. Anyway, for me, Gen 3 was my JAM as a kid, and it was the first game I ever truly remember playing. Or at least trying to, it took me some time to actually play it competently. I was really young when Gen 3 came out, I think I was 1 when the anime debuted. Though, ironically, I got into the games thanks to the anime, not the other way around. Oddly enough, I'd have put Totodile into a personal S-Tier; and no, not JUST because of the anime. Though don't get me wrong, Kayzie Rogers was great as Ash's Totodile. I LOVE crocodiles and their alligator and gharial cousins, so 'mons like Totodile and Sandile drew me in like a magnet! In the former's case, I legit tried playing with Totodile as an unevolved Eviolite form for my Heartgold playthrough. I tried, but this was before I knew of the steep learning curve in beef form that is Whitney. Yeah, let's just say Ari wasn't the only one who screamed internally "MOM, WHY DID I DIE?!!" I actually held a legit grudge against Miltank ever since, though I got over it when I discovered that what made it so infuriating also made it great for a playthrough in general. Oh, and if it's any consolation, I adore Chimchar; I always ended up naming mine Luffy after the titular One Piece leading dingus.
Thank you Wambu for speaking positively about Chimchar. Infernape is my favorite Pokémon. Still upset about how you both trash talked about the Grookey line though.

The thing with Raboot isn't that it's in an Emo Phase, the entire line is a reference to Soccer/Football. As Scorbunny, it's an avid young fan, doing tricks and practicing because that's all it wants to do. As Raboot, it's in training, wearing a tracksuit. It also looks like it's dressed very similarly to some of the trainers teams will have (Just look at some of them from the Champion's League, a lot of them have the same general aesthetic during a match). With Cinderace, all the training has paid off and he's not only on the team proper, he's the star player, their Ace.

My daughter is such a Mudkip fangirl she actually has a pet axolotl. It's the closest to blue we could find since actual blue ones are absurdly rare and expensive (if she asks, it's a shiny) and yes, she calls it Mudkip. She's even trained it to recognize her face. He's a cute little guy. He gets super hyped when she approaches. Mostly because she feeds him, but still. When she feeds him she switches the tank lights to blue, so whenever everything turns blue he gets this adorable little smile.
The first thing I thought when I saw Inteleon was it looks like Chalchiutlicue from Besty Lee's No Evil series (Look it up, it's amazing!). I feel like next Gen Starters should give us a Grass/Dragon, Fire/Electric, and Water/Ice.
I'm bummed that 3 of my top 5 Starters are only in the c and b tier, and the 2 I actively dislike the most are in a, but at least my boys Bulbasaur and Rowlett are well loved.

Mudkip best starter for me. Just adorable and very powerful in game as water ground is a great type up. Wish Eevee was the starter so people could choose what they want later as Eevee is basically the perfect starter but Gary gets it instead. The rest go from best to least favorite. Bulbasaur turtwig Charmander froki piplup treeko childaquil tododile Pikachu Squirtle unova starters then all the rest after that as non factor as I stopped playing after x and y.
I also love Mudkip. Speaking of Eevee, you know that you do get Eevee as a starter in Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and in Let's go Eevee. I know that it doesn't evolve in the latter game, but it still counts.

Mudkip Is just Amazing in all ways Also it's more interesting that players get to know eevee first then turn him into anything they want as Eevee should have been the poster child being so special unique
@@ivanbluecool agreed. Eevee can provide so many options to what you want to have on your team as a starter. Want high damage, go for Espeon, Flareon, or Sylveon. Need a tank, Vaporeon or Umbreon. Need pure speed, Jolteon says hello.

Tepig was my first starter and I still found it dum. Snivy is usually my go to overall favorite, cause while nothing compares to Dewott in the starters for me, Samurott is just a mega heck no to me... thanks to the huge difference from Dewott, making it not really look like the proper evolution.
Sooooooo glad that Mudkip hit S tier! Swampert is my most favorite mon of all time, yeah pretty basic cause it is a starter but I can't help it. I have kept a specific Swampert with me since Sapphire, and has joined all the way up to gen 8 (look at pfp). Her name is Muddy and has been considered my daughter throughout my entire Pokémon career, yeah around maybe gen 4 to 5 I wasn't all that big about it. I realized she has stayed the longest out of any pokemon. That made me realize how high Swampert would be on my list and she will always stay with me. Never change Muddy, papa loves ya. Wait I'm supposed to mainly comment about the video, uhhhh, yeah I got nothing else to say. Love the video though. Edit: WAIT EVEN BETTER! Mudkip is even higher than S tier, Lesgooooooooooo!
Honestly I loved this video and I don't know how much of it I agree with. I was shocked that I wholeheartedly agreed with your ranking and analysis of cyndaquil, he is gonna be my starter in Pokemon Legends no question!
I can really agree with Rillaboom. When I fully evolved my Grookey I just lost all love I had for the line and the love I had was fading after Grookey. Rillaboom is just a gorilla with a drum basically, it doesn't really use that mono grass type. it could have easily just been a 3 stage normal type line you found somewhere in the wilds and made room for an actually good grass starter. Unpopular opinion time, I find Mudkip overrated and an over all bland design. It's an easy C tier for me. I've just never liked mudkip or it's evolution line that much.

Everyone always kills tepig even though he has such a fun and unique design I know people dont like fire fighting but I love tepig and emboar even though pignites not great
And he's also the best starter since a majority of the gyms are weak to fire and fighting moves, he becomes a boss after learning Rollout and it's easier to level up and sweep the Plasma grunts normal and dark type Pokemon.

I have a soft spot for the Tepig line for one reason: Emboar immediately reminded me of Ganon from the Zelda series. That's it. No other reason to pick the other two lol

Not to mention that his hidden ability Reckless buffs all those recoil moves of his which when combined with a choice band allows him to basically nuke everything and anything that switches into him into oblivion and who doesn't like a little bit of overkill? Also found him learning scald to be kinda hilarious for some reason. Overall a pretty underrated starter imo. He may not be that great competitively at the end of the day despite the nuke factor and fairly wide offensive movepool, but a fun time in the lower tiers to be sure.
Mine was familiarity with the type combo, as my infernape was the 1 pokemon I went through gen4 with, the gen that made me realize I liked pokemon, yet alone that I was playing a franchise, not just one offs, thanks dumb kid me for not realizing that sooner. Honestly, even then I struggled to figure out why I clicked with infernape but not emboar, and then I figured out what stats are. Seriously, infernape and blaziken are similar if not the same in roles, but emboar challenged my knowledge of typings and how they work, not every fire fighting is a fast powerhouse of burning destruction, not every water type is bulky. It's why I can defend emboar, as he isn't just another fire fighting type, as he played with the concept of that type combination, and I wish they did it more often. Pokemon typings should for the most part have roles, but the combinations could vary drastically as you lean into one or the other, or even this new route completely unique to the combo.
I personally like Emboar because it was the first starter I beat a Pokemon game with.
I picked Snivy first, but then I fucking reset at Pinwheel forest because I was a dumb ol goofus and only had Servine.
Starting with Gen. 5 means that I don't care that Emboar is the third Fire/Fighting, it actually does something different with it.
I like Emboar and Tepig's design, the really thick forearms on Emboar sell it to me, and Tepig is cute, if not a little basic. I like it enough that I can excuse Pignite, and actually praise the little leotard its pattern makes. I think that's neat.

Okay in all seriousness, there is a good reason for Emboar's typing. He's supposed to reference Xu Baji from journey to the west. The friend and partner of Sun Wukong. So yeah he has a reason to be fire fighting. That is why the 2 have some stylistic similarities.

Lemme explain about Emboar, look at Infernape's design and back at Emboar. The reason for it if you can find similarities in the design is because of what they're based on: Sun Wukong and the Pig Demon from journey to the west. And that's why I like them both.
Also, unpopular opinion. I like every starter equally and I can't really pick which one is better. Feel free to debate in the comments as it won't matter to me. Because opinions are subjective and I wish to see you all fight.
I honestly like all the starters too. Even my least favorite of the bunch, Grookey isn’t a bad Pokémon by any means, I just think that it’s just kind of forgettable compared to the others.

Actually this is false, he's inspired by a different character from a different novel, Zhang Fei from The Romance of The Three Kingdoms. If he does have inspirations from Zhu Baije, the resemblance is very... not there, besides them both being pigs.

Oh, and as someone who enjoys using Emboar... It's time I impart knowledge about its design: It's based on another character from Journey to the West. If Infernape is Sun Wukong, Emboar is Zhu Bajie, a pig demon that became an ally of Wukong and the monk Sanzhang, and wields a rake as a weapon. So, instead of calling Emboar solely a "Bacon on fire" or "just a pig on fire" ... Research its origins first.

I actually really like the Tepig line (still least favorite gen 5 starter though), but I think it would’ve been better if we got a fire/dark warthog final form. Like Dark Beast Ganon from Twilight Princess but smaller. That would’ve been awesome

The fact it was Fire/Fighting made it easier to level it up with all the Plasma Grunts Pokemon bring normal/dark type.

Seeing Snivy in C tier really hurts my heart cause it's my first starter and my hardest hitter in the team, legit carried my whole team with a Victini in it no less, I will stand my regal queen for life (yes she was a female I got lucky)
Froakie has been my mom's favorite since she laid eyes on it. This is mainly because it's a frog and she is absolutely OBSESSED with frogs but it's also because she has an affinity for looking at characters and seeing their true potential (see her reaction to Neville Longbottom being a Gryffindor).
I generally prefer the Water Starters but this is because I have always had an affinity for water in general and I generally just like the Starters in general...just not necessarily evolved.

Believe it or not, we were having a hard time figuring out what to do for the A-tier bit, and I had just watched Kathy Bates' lip sync battle to "Hip Hop Hooray" and I had to and it just naturally popped out
Thank you for the positivity on Chikorita! Gen 2 was my first pokemon game and I was constantly made fun of for choosing the weak, pathetic grass type. Also, yes! Bulbasaur is best grass boy and favorite #001 Pokemon of all time!
Some of the desings of starters are still topics for disscusion though. I've heard many people complain that Samurott should be standing instead of on four legs. And that Typhlosion should have it's fire collar burning always. These things are still used for the big disscusion of 2D vs 3D sprites. Not that I don't understand why.

Typhlosion on the other hand looks absolutly Barren without it's flame collar, ESPECIALLY with how absolutly pale the 3ds game's model coloration tended to be

I'll be honest, the grookey line is my favourite of the gen 8 starters. Rillaboom looks the less anthropomorphic compared to the other two (which issue quite funny considering it is a gorilla).

I have seen you have place my favorite mud-fish boy in his own special tier, Ari and have brought my favorite green ghost... I am blessed to see my favorite Hoenn starter not only on the list but to see him smash it! It’s just like you two said, you never forget your first and for me, Gen 3 gave me and us Mudkip. A great all-round Pokémon to not only be with us on our journey, but it’s survive-ability through the generations

Chespin was my first ever Pokemon, and through sheer cuteness has remained my #1 favorite since.
Sun and Moon is the only game in the whole franchise where I legit wanted to get all three.
With my bias for the color blue, water became my favorite type. And ever since having Sapphire as my first Pokémon game, Mudkip and it’s line easily became my favorite starter line. Playing Sapphire also made Kyogre my favorite Legendary, and to this day only a couple come close.
So here’s a fun story, I have a little rule that I always choose the fire type starter first in a new Pokémon generation. Even though the fire types don’t always end up being my favorite of the trios, I generally enjoy the emphasis on powerful attacks and strength that the fire starters go for. However, there are two exceptions I have made to this rule of mine. The first was Litten since I both wasn’t a fan of Incineroar and absolutely adored Decidueye and wanted to choose it first. The second exception was Cinderace. When I first played the gen 8 games, I chose Scorebunny first, however I was not a fan of Cinderace in the slightest once it evolved. By this point in the game, I had also seen the final evolutions for the other two starters and concluded that this was the first time ever that I didn’t like any of the starters for a region. I disliked Cinderace so much that I honestly didn’t even want to keep playing through the game with it. That’s when I had an idea. I had caught a Litwick back in the fire gym, and I had found a dusk stone in the town fifth the fourth gym, so I decided to use the EXP candies I got from raids and the dusk stone to get myself a chandeluer and use it as my fire type starter instead. That’s right, I hated the gen 8 starters so much that I abandoned my Cinderace and used a Chandeluer as my fire starter instead. That’s the only time in my many years of playing Pokémon that I’ve ever abandoned a starter. That should tell you just how much I despise the gen 8 starters. Also, my favorite starter is Delphox, and I can tell you that it absolutely sucks to love the starter that gets curb-stomped by everybody’s favorite frog Greninja while also being overshadowed as a fire starter by everybody’s favorite mega-evolving lizard Charizard. Oh well, this was a great list regardless of all that. Thanks for making it Ari and Wambu. I may not agree with some of your opinions, but I respect them nonetheless.

What's wrong with CInderace? I think it's awesome. I do agree with not liking Incineroar though. I did have a similar thing with picking Fire Starters a lot, but instead, the one the broke that streak for me was Tepig, because I don't like Pignite or Emboar that much, and I love Serperior a lot more, so Snivy is my pick for the Unova game, and so far the only time the Grass Starter ended up being my fave of the trio. Litten was the second time I never chose a Fire Starter because Incineroar was a very disappointing final evo for it, only instead of Rowlet, I chose Popplio, because I found Rowlet kind of overrated, Popplio was always cute to me, and it's evolutions, Brionne and Primarina are adorable and beautiful, and I love them so much. I do think Decidueye is cool though and I feel bad it's overshadowed by it's pre-evolution that I don't even think is that cute.
I’m gonna say this! Emboar should’ve been fire/rock. Give it reckless or rock head as a hidden ability. Flare Blitz, Rock Head, Double Edge, Wild Charge. Perfect.

Loved the list and you two were amazing together. I agreed with most of the points made but I'm still a Charmander fan at heart. Although if I had to pick my all time favourite starter it's Totodile. Gold and Silver was my first generation and I loved the hell outta Totodile.
I was never a gamer growing up, but I do have a soft spot for certain pokemon. And my first ever starter was Snivy. I loved my snek boy, and named him Slytherin. I actually have a plush too, but his name changed to include Crowely in the mix. "Slytherin Crowely", what a name right? Wonder if Ari would consider a legendaries tier list?

@@michaelbainbridge7335 Bianca had such a similar arc that had been realized better by traveling with the player and rival. Kukui is the clear standout among professors along with the original Oak who has a slight Sinnoh connection if we can't count the anime. Besides them and Sonia, everyone else including her grandma had next to no role. Elm has that egg bit. Juniper are a daughter/father pair. Birch is your neighbor's father. There's not much reason to rank these characters even if a few did some things at a given time or place.
In terms of “never forget your first”, I started with Diamond and have a strong connection with the Turtwig line. In terms of favorite, though, I have to go with Totodile. Specifically from Gen 4 onward, once the physical/special split and especially Ice Fang became a thing. Forget Fairy types, I’ll take a Feraligatr as my Dragon killer.

As always, fantastic to see you hijacking- I mean, watching over the channel as head of Pokemon (and being one of my favorite Pokemon countdown artists in recent memory), and it was great seeing Wambu again. I remember when I first saw his channel, back before he became a Chandelure.
Anyway, for me, Gen 3 was my JAM as a kid, and it was the first game I ever truly remember playing. Or at least trying to, it took me some time to actually play it competently. I was really young when Gen 3 came out, I think I was 1 when the anime debuted. Though, ironically, I got into the games thanks to the anime, not the other way around.
Oddly enough, I'd have put Totodile into a personal S-Tier; and no, not JUST because of the anime. Though don't get me wrong, Kayzie Rogers was great as Ash's Totodile. I LOVE crocodiles and their alligator and gharial cousins, so 'mons like Totodile and Sandile drew me in like a magnet!
In the former's case, I legit tried playing with Totodile as an unevolved Eviolite form for my Heartgold playthrough. I tried, but this was before I knew of the steep learning curve in beef form that is Whitney. Yeah, let's just say Ari wasn't the only one who screamed internally "MOM, WHY DID I DIE?!!" I actually held a legit grudge against Miltank ever since, though I got over it when I discovered that what made it so infuriating also made it great for a playthrough in general.
Oh, and if it's any consolation, I adore Chimchar; I always ended up naming mine Luffy after the titular One Piece leading dingus.

The thing with Raboot isn't that it's in an Emo Phase, the entire line is a reference to Soccer/Football.
As Scorbunny, it's an avid young fan, doing tricks and practicing because that's all it wants to do. As Raboot, it's in training, wearing a tracksuit. It also looks like it's dressed very similarly to some of the trainers teams will have (Just look at some of them from the Champion's League, a lot of them have the same general aesthetic during a match). With Cinderace, all the training has paid off and he's not only on the team proper, he's the star player, their Ace.
Seeing Chespin in a higher tier than Treeko and Snivy stings something fierce.
Even if I don’t agree with a few entries placements, this was still a joy to watch. You two have amazing comedic chemistry and I’m glad Oshawott landed so high, as you could probably tell

My daughter is such a Mudkip fangirl she actually has a pet axolotl. It's the closest to blue we could find since actual blue ones are absurdly rare and expensive (if she asks, it's a shiny) and yes, she calls it Mudkip. She's even trained it to recognize her face. He's a cute little guy. He gets super hyped when she approaches. Mostly because she feeds him, but still. When she feeds him she switches the tank lights to blue, so whenever everything turns blue he gets this adorable little smile.
All I'm gonna say is that Chespin better be SSS Tier, telling you right now!

Mudkip best starter for me. Just adorable and very powerful in game as water ground is a great type up. Wish Eevee was the starter so people could choose what they want later as Eevee is basically the perfect starter but Gary gets it instead.
The rest go from best to least favorite. Bulbasaur turtwig Charmander froki piplup treeko childaquil tododile Pikachu Squirtle unova starters then all the rest after that as non factor as I stopped playing after x and y.
I also love Mudkip. Speaking of Eevee, you know that you do get Eevee as a starter in Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and in Let's go Eevee. I know that it doesn't evolve in the latter game, but it still counts.

@@ivanbluecool agreed. Eevee can provide so many options to what you want to have on your team as a starter. Want high damage, go for Espeon, Flareon, or Sylveon. Need a tank, Vaporeon or Umbreon. Need pure speed, Jolteon says hello.

Tepig was my first starter and I still found it dum. Snivy is usually my go to overall favorite, cause while nothing compares to Dewott in the starters for me, Samurott is just a mega heck no to me... thanks to the huge difference from Dewott, making it not really look like the proper evolution.

I have kept a specific Swampert with me since Sapphire, and has joined all the way up to gen 8 (look at pfp). Her name is Muddy and has been considered my daughter throughout my entire Pokémon career, yeah around maybe gen 4 to 5 I wasn't all that big about it. I realized she has stayed the longest out of any pokemon. That made me realize how high Swampert would be on my list and she will always stay with me. Never change Muddy, papa loves ya.

Honestly I loved this video and I don't know how much of it I agree with. I was shocked that I wholeheartedly agreed with your ranking and analysis of cyndaquil, he is gonna be my starter in Pokemon Legends no question!
I can really agree with Rillaboom. When I fully evolved my Grookey I just lost all love I had for the line and the love I had was fading after Grookey. Rillaboom is just a gorilla with a drum basically, it doesn't really use that mono grass type. it could have easily just been a 3 stage normal type line you found somewhere in the wilds and made room for an actually good grass starter. Unpopular opinion time, I find Mudkip overrated and an over all bland design. It's an easy C tier for me. I've just never liked mudkip or it's evolution line that much.

Everyone always kills tepig even though he has such a fun and unique design I know people dont like fire fighting but I love tepig and emboar even though pignites not great
And he's also the best starter since a majority of the gyms are weak to fire and fighting moves, he becomes a boss after learning Rollout and it's easier to level up and sweep the Plasma grunts normal and dark type Pokemon.

Nice list! Personally my favourite is the Poplio line, it’s fun, and Primarina looks amazing, is my favourite two types, water and fairy, and I love the opera theme. I’ll always love my fairy seal

It wouldn't make sense to do that. It's the first time they're going to the new reason. They have no time to adapt to their environment. They would stay the same as they normally would if they're just being transported somewhere

I love the Rowlet and Scorbunny lines. There designs are solid, move pools are great. And I love their final forms. Decidueye and Cinderace are great.
