One day I'll master this. In the meantime I'll keep learning as I go. I was wondering how you feel about me taking this over to my channel? I believe it's a perfect fit for my channel because I work with brain injury survivors. This would help out my community a bunch as remembering things is a challenge for survivors. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful bright day!
I am a community manager of twelve properties and I am going to try this! I have a lot to juggle in a day at work. I think this will work to keep me productive.
Can you give us more videos like this? Also, can you make time management videos? How do you manage your time and how to prevent yourself from wasting time.
This is really going to help me because I expect way too much of myself and I'll make huge long lists and then wonder why I'm not as productive! I'm going back to the small lists!
I have a digital calendar on my phone bc it’s just easy to add appointments there, but I also use a cheap $1 store calendar that has the month view and that’s where I do all my actual planning. I write down what my appointments are and my top three things to get done that day. I don’t include anything routine that I do during the day (dishes, make dinner, etc) but rather more like project type tasks. For example, today I researched and scheduled dr appointments which I considered a project bc I had not gone to them so this took more time on the research side. My other project was research and schedule contractors for work around our house. The last one was research saving money on car insurance and then calling to get our rate reduced. This helps me focus way better than when I look at my computer and get notifications and emails.
I saw this video and I run to buy my cards. I've being using the technique for a week and help me a lot. No more procrastination or distraction but specially not more anxiety! I just jump right on the task with the main goal of scratch it with the Pink Power. So satisfying! Thank you so much! 😊❤
Which tasks do you add to the Things to remember section? How do you select what to add? Do we add all possible things in there or just a few? What if they're already added to our digital task list?
Just difficult to carry with you without the writing smearing. Not very practical. In contrast, an index card can be easily put into a purse, wallet, or pocket.
So much like the way I’ve thought over the years. Your videos are what made calendar blocking so practical for intentional living. And now, you’ve modernized it With the daily note/card that’s been missing! Productivity app addiction cured. Memory fixed!!!
I use a planner that’s hybrid planner and BuJo so I’m often flipping back and forth between my weekly and daily pages. I tried the index card and it really does help to have it all condensed on one small card you can easily take with you on the go and have front and center on your desk like I do. So far I’m loving this!
What would you recommend for someone in retail management that is responsible for a lot of little fires throughout their shift, but also have things that are REQUIRED to get done before they leave for the day? How do you plan time expectations for jobs like this?
And as someone who did retail management for almost 20 years you are probably also short staffed or not allowed the payroll to put more coverage on so you can get your tasks done… the only thing I ever did was made a list each day or in the evening .. sometimes I would even make the list at home and just plug away at it as you can, sometimes having everything I had to do written out in front of me helped me to focus and also multi task on certain things that would allow it .. good luck, I know it’s not easy
Hey Amy!! Thanks for making this series! I have started to use index cards & also love how simple & effective they can be! I think your handwriting is beautiful even when messy!! I think you’re doing a great job & you’re probably an outstanding momma! Praying for your pregnancy & delivery now. I’m expecting my second in August! I hope Bianca has an amazing birthday (this weekend) & you can relax once it’s happening because you’ve done all you can to make it memorable! Thank you for sharing all of these lovely tips on different ways to use the cards, what you took away from those powerful productivity books (which I may also need to read now) & also a way to organize the day & simply get out the Schedule/things to Remember for each day!! Very helpful & your background is also inspiring & always beautiful to look at. Thank you for being a blessing on TH-cam! I look forward to watching more of your content & maybe even accomplishing those daunting projects I hold dear!!! 💝 I noticed you & I have also gravitated towards the same pen. I recently picked up the Sharpie SGel 0.5 for a finer tip & love it! 🥰 Definitely inspired to buy a highlighter & I’ve been on the hunt for a ‘carry case’ for my index box cause I’m also that girl who wants to work off of cards not a notebook where everything laid on top of each other & gets overwhelming to flip through! I also want to say your notion set up is on point & I’m gonna consider using it.. I’m a SAHM who loves to organize & gets totally overwhelmed & need a very flexible yet simple way to deal with life. 👍 💌 Have you ran into the Zettelkasten method? This is what got me into index cards 🖊️
I like that it this system can be messy, but my brain likes the idea of being able to look back and see what I've accomplished. So I'm terrified of not having a place to archive them in order. 💖🌞🌵😷
I was thinking the exact same thing! The size of my handwriting alone eliminates being able to use the card. So like you I’ll use this system scrap paper. I always knew there was a reason I couldn’t bear to throw away perfectly good blank paper 😆
I love to write on backs of envelopes. I love the paper. I love the size. And l love that it's not precious! I was going to throw it away! Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.
I'm in love with this series. I've implemented it all. Great follow-up vid, which is indeed answering what my next question was. :) This makes sense for planning things in the Project list, but what about also a bunch of little disconnected Tasks from the Task list?
It's important to have a regular review of all your projects and one-off tasks so that you plan them to happen when necessary. As long as you're reviewing your one-off tasks to see where they need to get booked in, this system could work for those as well.
This is a great idea. I saw your video on the card before but I was not convinced. This made it a lot more structured, but also clear, fast and concise. I have a bullet journal that I fall in and out of love with. Even though I'm not very artistic and it always ever was a structural tool for me: it still sucks up way too much time to set up the monthly spread, daily spread, yearly spread, jam spread, peanutbutter spread... So I think this is way easier for me in combination with the google agenda and notion (which I use already)
Hi @AmyTV Love this, but I have a question. How is the "Things To Remember" right side of the card different than your earlier video about using the stack of 3x5 cards to write down items as they o seeccur to you?
The goal for the system in this video is for that "things to remember" list to be more tasks and deadlines that are going to need to get scheduled. So in theory you could just use more cards or another note-taking idea to capture other things that fall outside of that qualification. That begin said, I present many ideas on this channel. They're not always meant to fit perfectly together. Some will work great for some people while others ideas I've shared won't work at all. I try to offer what I've found to be effective no matter what so that someone watching can choose what tactics work best for them. So in this case, if you like the idea but also want to use more cards because one card won't be enough... do you!
What do you do when the things to remember side just keeps getting longer and longer? I'm not talking about over-committing. I'm talking about when you can't keep up with the tasks of daily living and have no one to help and can't afford to hire someone.
I have a (what seems like a very basic) question: What do you do if you finish a task before the time for the next task starts? Changing the times makes me respect the list less the next day, so I'm having a hard time doing time blocking.
Great question. You must do what works for you. If you know you’re going to take the tactic less seriously by moving things around then lean into that knowing of self. For me, it depends. I prefer to take a break if I get don’t early so I don’t burn out. But if I’m working while my baby is sleeping, I immediately make progress on the next thing to take advantage of the time.
Love this🖊️ . Question. Example, for the creative brief that was due for Thursday… Would you just extract that and put else where to have a reminder go off for this to be complete by Thursday? Where do you place those 3 to 4 days off ‘to do tasks’?
See video 2 in this series, the PARA one. There's a whole brilliant system for Projects and Tasks. The client brief would be a Project in Notion (or whatever you use after watching the video), and anytime we think of something about the brief, we add it to the Project. Then when it comes time to work on it, all of our thoughts are in one place.
I should have explained this better! Great question. The next morning when I create my new card for the day, I'm going to review everything on the "Things To Remember" list from the previous day that needs to be scheduled. When that creative brief came on my radar, it was about 2 days ahead of time, so I put the deadline on my calendar. Then, knowing I have an upcoming deadline to get ahead on, I probably need to put something on my agenda today that moves the project forward. So it's likely I'll schedule time to work on that task in "Today's Schedule" so that it's more likely I will hit that deadline. Is that helpful?
You've got 5 minutes every day! Use it wisely. Who's going to try this method tomorrow?
Thanks Amy! Loved this one :)
I will try this
I've been using the index cards and it's been a game changer. I love how you broke the daily schedule done ✔️.
One day I'll master this. In the meantime I'll keep learning as I go. I was wondering how you feel about me taking this over to my channel? Me!
I would love to see a video about how to use a digital planner and physical planner at the same time!
mee too but using a digital planner that has the abilty to search and not for apple i am an android user
This is the best 5 minutes you could ever spend. This method sets the tone for your whole day! Easy Productivity? Yes Please!
I am a community manager of twelve properties and I am going to try this! I have a lot to juggle in a day at work. I think this will work to keep me productive.
I love the idea of keeping a “things to remember” list and I’m still in love with calendar blocking. 💖

Absolutely!

Same

Definitely trying this today!
I can do this especially that second side on that card!!!
I use a mini white board. Environment friendly because it’s reusable
Just difficult to carry with you without the writing smearing. Not very practical. In contrast, an index card can be easily put into a purse, wallet, or pocket.
Rocket cards, you can use frixion erasable pens

💌 Have you ran into the Zettelkasten method? This is what got me into index cards 🖊️
I’ve been doing this since reading GTD and write action plan date/day across the top, divide lengthwise.
THIS! Everything else I've been seeing is so complex and complicated. I love the simplicity, literally something I can implement right now
Ugh, you've answered my prayers! I do this, but always knew there was something I was missing. Thank you so much!
You are and you will always be the productivity queen for me❤
The best easiest way to plan! Thank You!
I like that it this system can be messy, but my brain likes the idea of being able to look back and see what I've accomplished. So I'm terrified of not having a place to archive them in order. 💖🌞🌵😷
You could use an index card box, write a date on the cards and put them in order into the box.
I love it. I know that an index card is too small for me but I usually keep scraps of paper for this purpose.

@@AmyTV Excellent advice. Thank you for clarifying. Loving your videos these days. You're inspiring me.
This could cure brain issues☕️🩷
With index cards, what happens to our GMGL planner???
