    This is it, my 32nd countdown, the last one for 2021. This time, we're going back to Road Safety PSAs, however we are focusing on one specific side of Road Safety PSAs... Drink Driving PSAs. Some of the most powerful and brutal PSAs out there, and a few classics too. This countdown is meant to be a simple, small countdown to end the year, a bit of the Loogi Balloogi roots, with just some nice visual effects and 80s Synthwave Music.
    I thought that this would be the perfect video to release at Christmas time, considering that we typically drink more often at Christmas compared to any other time of year, therfore Drink Driving is more common. It only makes sense, right? With that being said, I'm sorry for taking a little while when making this video, hopefully you enjoy it. Have a wonderful Christmas, stay safe, and I'll hopefully see you next year!

    The eeriest drink driving PSA I've ever encountered was actually a radio ad, back in the late 80s. I was about 8 at the time and can still recall the story of it (if not all the exact dialogue):
    It was set at a children's party and began with the sounds of kids playing and laughing: Kylie's hit song 'Never too Late' accompanied this. Then, a woman (the hostess?) called a little boy named Ben over to her. She told him, sounding very nervous, that his parents wouldn't be collecting him from the party, as planned, and instead his granny would be coming for him. Ben kept asking why, and where his parents were, but the woman kept skirting around without giving him a straight answer. She then said that his granny had now arrived, and Ben asked: 'Why did Granny come in a police car?'. At that point, a grave male voice proclaimed: 'DRINKING AND DRIVING WRECKS LIVES!'. The fact that I can still remember it shows how much it chilled me to my core.

    I'm glad that this video was made showing public service announcements from the UK, France, Australia and New Zealand because it shows that drinking and driving is an international problem and we as society need to put our heads together in order to stop the needless deaths and injuries from drunk driving accidents. However I think that it would have been even more beneficial to have included drunk driving PSAs from Ireland, Canada and the US. Videos like this need to be seen more often this time of year as there are many drunk drivers on the roads during holidays such as New Year's Eve.

    Excuse me, but I have a controversial question. Do PSAS sometimes trigger PTSD? Examples include drunk driving, drug prevention, domestic abuse, and other dark subjects that are quite difficult to talk about without getting disturbed by it. The idea is to drill into people's heads that one instant of carelessness/inattentiveness/failure to heed basic safety rules and regulations, one thoughtless comment or act of anger, one decision to smoke/drink/use drugs can (and often does) result in lifelong consequences, including severe injury or death and emotional scars that last a lifetime. However, if one person who actually lived through one of these subjects I mentioned and actually have trauma when they saw one of these PSAs, they could honestly be reliving these issues and getting more anxiety than those who haven't. Maybe its because the way PSAs are presented are very realistic that they would hit too close to home. Look, I'm not an expert on this, but I'm just curious to know about those inner workings of people with PTSD and disturbing PSAs.

    • @LoogiBalloogi
      @LoogiBalloogi  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, certain PSAs/PIFs have been known to trigger PTSD or fuel past trauma in some. The best example I can think of is "Can't Look" by the NSPCC. If you've seen that PIF before, then you wouldn't be surprised to hear that it received 150 formal complaints to the ASA. 46 of the complaints came from people who had experienced a form of abuse during their childhood, who said that they "found the reminder too distressing".
      Link to the report about the complaints - webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20090209212045/www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/itc/itc_publications/complaints_reports/advertising_complaints/show_complaint.asp-ad_complaint_id=207.html

      Yes, some PSAs can trigger PTSD in some people with past trauma.
      A good example of this is the infamous NSPCC PIF "Can't Look" from 1999. It received 150 formal complaints to the ASA due to it's incredibly disturbing content. 46 of those complaints were from people who claimed to have experienced abuse during their childhood.
      (I know this is a very late reply, sorry)

    The "let's go see daddy" is by far one of the saddest for a laundry list of reasons. It would be worse if the PSA ended with her saying the baby isn't moving. I know someone who was In a car accident while pregnant and she said she could feel the baby freaking out inside her so at least she knew the baby was still alive.

    Honestly, number 2 was more devastating than number one. Number one is definitely heartbreaking, but number two really makes you look at everything involved in a drunk driving accident. I wanted to hug the poor mother who lost her son, and the officer who had to bring her the news (something that must never get any easier).
