My oil light on mine comes on every other time I start my Neon. I'll start it, the light stays on, so I pull over and check the oil level. Oil level is fine. I start it back up and it turns off. Checking my maintenance records, I am due for and oil change. Could it be that I just need an oil change, or is the sensor bad? I'm hoping it isn't the oil pump.
Thanks for the advice on snapping off tip of sending unit. Like you I also struggle for an hour or more trying to undo that stupid little clip because it was flipped 180. With a hammer and a screwdriver I was done in no time thanks for the suggestion. One of the best things TH-cam is good for
@alyoungcuda once every 100k miles or ten or so years isn't bad for an easy barely 2 hour job. I have that down to a science. Just did mine again few weeks ago. Did the heater core too, 3 hours with a beer break. That was easiest core I've done. Super easy cars to work on. 5 minutes for a cam sensor and oil sensor. I'd work just on Neons if I could.
@@alyoungcuda first one took me almost an hour but I got it done. Then roommate had the same problem on his (lots of neons around here, lol). Took around 11 minutes because my tools were all still together and in order, and you can pretty much do it by feel instead of trying to get light down in there and kink your neck trying to see what's going on... @@elliewilliams1137 turn it in till it starts to get tight, no need to bottom it out and depending on the brand switch, some you can feel the treads because they are longer..don't make it very tight because you might actually break it in the block and thats another whole set of problems

Most likely your sensor is on its way out...

@@alyoungcuda 110% Sarcasm. My 04 R/T never had issues. None of my Neon's have. All lasted 300k miles easily.
They are excellent little cars, just have to keep up with the timing belts or they will bend valves when they break...

Thanks for the info, this helped alot, I was just about to lift this neon up and screw around underneath looking for that connector.

Did you experience this issue after installing your cold air intake?
No, cold intake has been on for years...the switch leaks and shorts out the connector..good thing Autozone has a lifetime warranty on the switch..

There is barely any room to get in there to squeeze a pair of pliers..Autozone sells a socket for 12.00
