    I have been waiting for this one.. One of my favourite Overseas models against the “mighty” Aquanaut, but the Vacheron wins it for me. Just can’t argue with the value for money the Overseas brings to the table. Thanks for this one Tim!

      Yeah that Overseas is insane!

      “Mighty Aquanaut” never understood why it’s so mighty, it’s an ugly duckling! Maybe just because it’s a Patek?

    As someone who is lucky enough to have owned both ( I still own the overseas) I would have the overseas every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The VC also comes as standard with an alligator strap to dress it up. Good review Tim....the lume on the aquanaut is brighter initially but my experience was that the VC held it longer. I also always found that when choosing which watch to wear that I would ultimately choose the 5712 over the aquanaut.

    I’m writing this in 2024, having just traded my Rolex Submariner for a VC Overseas Gen 2. It arrives tomorrow, and I’m very happy this video popped into my feed. Thank you, Tim.

    I was considering this 2 watches before and finally picked VC in 2015. 😊

    Vc is so choice, the dial in person has so much detail

    without a doubt the VC is the nicer watch... the father position of the holy trinity!

    Having the owned the 5167 I would say that it has little personality. Objectively it has to win in this comparison BUT (and I've not owned the VC so step in those that have) I believe that the Overseas has a deeper character in form that you can always appreciate. The 5167 is a little too slim, a little too light to be considered a sports watch but not subtle or classy enough to be formally worn. If you want to spend that kind of money why not a FPJ Chronometre Bleu? The 5167 cannot compete especially given that pre-owned it's the more expensive watch. Also, if you're buying to impress others with any watch have a long look in the mirror...

      I couldn't agree more with your analysis, although can't say I have owned a 5167 unfortunately haha

    It's the Aquanaut for me. It's a smaller size. I like the design. I'm not keen on rubber straps, so the Aquanaut is more compatible with after-market straps if I need them.

  • @heminder
    @heminder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Vacheron wins this one. What were Patek thinking when they designed that strap?

    • @garysmith1477
      @garysmith1477 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They were thinking, let’s make the most comfortable “forget you have it on your wrist “ rubber strap and they succeeded.

    • @heminder
      @heminder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll definitely not forget it's on my wrist when I'm out and my wrist expands causing the strap to choke circulation, or I may have sized it for when I'm active in which case I'll definitely notice it flopping around uncomfortably when I'm at rest.

    • @garysmith1477
      @garysmith1477 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Norseman it’s amusing at best to hear speculation without first hand experience. Everyone on TH-cam is an expert in everything. Amongst my modest collection, I’ve 3 Aquanauts and my the rubber straps have fit me perfectly all year round. Seriously, experience everything in life first hand if you can, conjecture is dangerous.

    • @heminder
      @heminder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't need first hand experience to know that not being able to adjust a strap will be hella uncomfortable at times. It's just common sense. You must be extremely sedentary for you to never experience significant wrist expansion.

    • @garysmith1477
      @garysmith1477 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Norseman or perhaps Patek Philippe’s research and development engineered the strap with enough expansion to cover moderate wrist expansion and failing that a mere price tag of £180 for those who eat too many pies.

    I really do like the Aquanaut but the Overseas has more appeal, and style for me. I would say really close, but if i had to choose one as a gift i would take the Aquanaut, but if i had to buy i would get the Overseas :)

  • @Pulsonar

    If won the Aquanaut in a prize draw. Id sell it and buy the VC Overseas, a Rolex Explorer 2 or Sub and a long holiday cruise in the Caribbean 😊

    VC without a doubt! The engineering aspect itself surpass PP lots..... yrs PP may have high resale value but for the pure appreciation of a horology timepiece...... my vote go to VC
    Thank u Tim to arrange this power house face off.

    I very much like that Vachero, but why not a date window placement at 3 or even better 6?

  • @T520A
    @T520A 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t think PP5167A’s case back inner details reach Geneva Seal level. It’s great of course, but not yet there, being only an entry level PP.

  • @highnrising

    The Vach is for wearing. That Patek is for looking at the back. (And I wouldn't pay the amount that I paid for my car, just to look at that watch's back.)

  • @DavidDatura
    @DavidDatura 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I don’t get the attraction of the Aquanaut, it’s always seemed quite ugly to me. Maybe it looks better in the metal, rather than the Timex vibe it gives off here? The VC is the more handsome if less distinctive looking watch by comparison. I’m not a fan of either. If I had the choice I’d go with a Nautilus or Royal Oak instead.

    • @martinnewton1984
      @martinnewton1984 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Datura you are right....it is ugly

  • @christophergustafson3942

    Really tough choice - I found myself going back and forth during the scoring phase. True dead heat - VC for tech and value and Patek for design...
    I guess if I could actually afford one I could afford either and my heart says Patek for design over tech.

    I’ll be honest I love VC but the few pre owned overseas chronos I tried on both had issues with resetting the chrono flush to the 12. That movement in the gen 2 is weak!

    As a gift from (for instance) my recently-wealthy wife, the Aquanaut by a mile. With my own pesos, the Vacheron. Just wish *either* of them had a negative color date wheel.
