There's such an exquisite amount of beauty in the complications that some companies, like A. Lange and Jaeger, use in their watches, that make you stand in awe of their engineering superiority. But sometimes, you find beauty in the simplest of things. This is one of them.
If you gave 50k on this pice and the next day you would spot that "rust" there... would you still keep it ? I mean im positive that the cal. is spotless but still...
I like it. Then again, I am a Gen X'er and the watch was apparently designed for my age group. It might not be an elegant design, but I do appreciate the simplicity of it. I also think it has a style and character all of it's own, and I would certainly wear it.
@@1517the_year The nautilus has a more flattering look thanks to the its ears' symmetry which then flow smoothly into the steel bracelet. It just looks smoother, more slim, everything is unified. The aquanaut looks more bulky and unsatisfying. And don't get me wrong, I definitely prefer the aquanaut, it looks so cosy and it's more understated and the globe-looking dial that flows into the bracelet is really cool, it makes me think of it as a casual travel watch.
There are air bubbles in the lettering on the dial at 2:22. That makes me question the true quality control. If I payed 25k+ for a Patek and it wasn't perfect, I would be extremely mad. I'm looking at PP a little differently now. I know it seems trivial but these watches are critiqued under a microscope to warrant their pricing and that makes them look pretty bad.
Yeah I noticed that too. Also the lume looks like it is blobbed on as well. Honestly, I feel that Patek is getting lazy with their entry level offerings, and the attention to detail only goes into their higher complications watches. Unlike a company like Lange, where OCD levels of attention to detail goes into every watch in their lineup
Matt Wasilewicz getting too comfortable with their brand recognition. I feel like Lange has a heritage more known for being high horology through and through from day one. Less offerings and low numbers means better attention to detail. This video has me considering...just where does Patek sit on the podium of haute horology? What's next? Plastic movement holders! 🤔😂

Another fantastic video. Macro photography was amazing! As far as the watch, it is the perfect daily watch. It's hard to believe how good it is until you spend time with it.
For me, the Nautilus is a dress watch on a metal strap, but I struggle to understand what the Aquanaut is trying to be. Neither qualify as real sports watches given they pack a relatively fragile movement also found in basic Calatrava's. The Aquanaut has, externally, all the attributes of a sports watch, but I feel sorry for those who think they can subject it to the same conditions as, say, a Rolex Explorer. The other thing that's shocking is how poor the finish of the dial is: - the irregularity of the printing at 2:25 - the irregularity of the lume application at 3:55 - dirt under the seconds hand at 4:02 It's frankly unacceptable at this price point. I'll take any Grand Seiko over this particular Patek reference any day of the week.
When you are at a pool side in Monaco or out driving through the alps in a naturally aspirated Porsche it makes perfect sense. Just as you would change your clothing for evening wear you can do the same with a watch. if you want to go diving with a watch then you have to use something like a tried and tested Rolex. You do not take your children to school on the handlebars of a bike and the same applies to watches. Some people who have a casual life and money may love that type of one watch wear. The irregularities you are talking about are hand finished and only show up on macro shots. Are you going to complain about the guys hands in the video as well.
@@bighands69 The point I was making, and that you entirely missed, is that Grand Seiko produces watches without any of these blemishes, at a fraction of the cost of Patek. And they are also hand finished (not the movement, but definitely the dial / hands / case).

this is a more versatile and practical watch with same elegancy as 5711 (5711 is of course elegant but yet less sporty) the market will give this watch its justice especially with the bracelet whoever criticize the bracelet really need to see it in real life it's unique in Patek, well crafted , and super beautiful can't have enough with it
Anyone who thinks these look ugly or cheap, you should see and handle one in person. The bezel and subtle beveling look alive in any light, and the high contrast of the dial against a subtle sunbust almost gives the watch a 3D effect. It's also amazingly thin and elegant despite the rubber strap. Even with numbers on a the dial, I think it could work as a dress watch. It's so slim, it's very elegant despite its "sporty" marketing. Nautilus is way too blingy for me. Aquanaut will work with any outfit.
People complain about Speedy Tuesday, but PP makes a variation of the Nautilus and everyone thinks it is wonderful. It also likely costs about $30K. People c'mon, do you really think it is worth it?
Because you cannot buy them retail. Waiting lists are several years, so x2 retail is the what these are going for on the second hand market. This is a real world example for you of supply and demand

They will not be in stock, on the crazy precious metal versions. That is also why a steel Daytona is selling on second dairy market for twice the retail price. You could absolutely by one of these Pateks at normal retail, but you will be waiting several years

Its worth about 16000 retail. Tens of thousands is exaggerated. And to be honest if you’re seriously in the market for one of these watches, you simply don’t care
I don't think is worthy to get this rather basic but crazy overly priced watch. But truly appreciate the detail video shots & introduction of the timepiece. At this price point a Lange 1 is so much worthy of every cents u paid for.

Just had the privilege of trying one but with bracelet at Prague PP showroom. It is very nice and cost 20kEur in SS. The dial at 40 or 39.5 mm looks small for me but it is a perfect timepiece.

This Patek is so beutiful. When launched in 1997, the Aquanaut created a sensation. It was young, modern and unexpected. Its case was a rounded octagon, inspired by that of the Nautilus. I LOVE IT!!!
Oh, well. Still not the biggest fan, but I certainly don't mind selling it for a profit, which I suspect is a major part of the charm for most. So many more interesting references in the Patek catalogue if one care to open the eyes a bit 😉
