So good to see the haying tractors and equipment out again! Makes me realize how long we've been subscribers to the channel. Of course, there are others that have subscribers longers.
Your happiness and relief are evident that you’ll be able to hay this year!! Praying that you have a successful and bountiful harvest this year, and it will be great to see the hay yard filled with your own hay!
Please check the fire extinguisher on the bailer. It could save you thousands of dollars if a fire were to occur and spread to your tractor or fields. Better safe than sorry❣️
I’ve read every comment above yours just to see if the fire extinguisher had been mentioned. Mike didn’t mention making sure it was full/would be checked.
@Deborah Smith wow, good for you!! I'm retired law enforcement. Dont worry. I'm truck driver friendly. Haha. New York State. I was living in Florida for the last 8 years and sold my house and moved here were I was born and raised. Isn't the ranch great!! Love the ranch and Mike and Erin and kids!!
A couple of points. On ' Farmer Tyler Ranch ' Tyler had a bad belt or two and repaired them rather than replace them for a substantial cost savings. The other point comes with a firm finger wagging. I know you are tired at the end of haying season but still, the day after you are done harvesting, why not clean up the equipment to get those hay deposits off the machine so they can't collect moisture that will promote rust? Think of it like brushing down a horse after a long day in the saddle. Machines like some loving too.
I was thinking the same thing . Also my Dad would chew my behind if he caught me running a sickle mower all the way up like that . Hard on knuckles and the pitman ! Used oil on the sickle works wonders too . After you replace the guards and sickle sections of course .
i watch farmer tyler ranch he just had to buy pieces for the baler and the belts were outrages so he bought repair kits it was cheaper good luck with all the working hugssssss
Very happy for your operation to be able to cut your own grass! Reminds me of the tension and lost sleep I experienced every year. Hope you heard me say yeah when the key was turned and the humming began! My operation was not nearly as big as yours but every bale that didn't have to be bought elsewhere was a financial bonus. Weather can be a big problem from cutting to being baled and in the barn. A milking herd must consume the highest quality hay available. I prayed a lot then and my prayers for a successful season for you will continue!
Its more fun to watch the grass grow than the paint drying! Very interesting to see how all this equipment operates and what its used for. I hope that you not only get the rain (no hail) you need besides no major issues with the equipment. We're all holding our breath and praying like the dickens for the best. Sending many Blessings your way!
I'm very happy to see that you have been getting rain and will be able to produce some of your own hay this year! It's about time you catch (even a little) a break!!
It's amazing to me how a former radio guy has learned so much about ranching, equipment, animals, etc. This is my favorite TH-cam channel...love you guys, Mike.
Hi to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Sending Prayers to everyone that everyone and everything be alright. Good you are getting the haye for those healthy cows. Have a bless day.
You have my blessing's. In two weeks you guys will be cutting your own hay. It's awesome when Farmers/Ranchers can grow their own food for their livestock.
Hi Mike I would have greased and oiled the chains before I ran it after it had Sat so long. Just my personal opinion, my dad always said to grease everything before running it. Enjoy the channel
It was nice to look the machinery over with you. I picked out must of everything that needed to be done. Our equipment was old New Holland bought back in the 50s and a horse drawn dumprake converted to a tongue. And a horse drawn side sickle manual drop with sit converted. Those were the best times. Making hay when the sun shone and having it all stacked (outside) before the rained. Square bales were any where from 75 to 80 pounds close 3 feet long and packed. The top of the stack approximately 8 straight then tapered to the single roll at the peck. Loose hay was put on the top to shed rain. It was so high that it was scary for us kids. But fun in the winter when the snow back against the stack. We used it to sled down with our steel runner sleigh. Thanks for bringing back memories. God Bless you and your family and Jeff and is family. PS where is your cowboy hat Jeff.
Hi y'all, I don't know why but your vlog is so informative and addictive! I can't wait for each and every one. I'm a country Gammy living on the outskirts of town, but wishing I was in the countryside. Thank you for letting me escape the ordinary.
Surprised that after 3 years of sitting, the equipment seems to be in pretty good working condition. A little bit of planning and checking the equipment hopefully will give you and Jeff some extra time getting everything in the best condition as possible. Happy to see you being able to cut you own hay this year and save the ranch a bunch of money. Keep up the great work.
Great to see all the equipment come back to life. I know you will take all the hay you can get. Do you have a target to feed everything for the year? I know it is complicated with the finishing school and replacement cows. I am just curious. Hope the rain keep coming from you. Can't wait to see how many bale's you get.
Well to be honest Mike, I think with all of the equipment setting for almost 3 years, they all didn't have much problems. All those issues can easily be from setting from one hay season to the other. We just worked on getting all ours ready for hay and we had just as many issues as you did. Here's hoping everything goes well this hay season. Great video, loved it, thanks for sharing. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
If a broken hydraulic hose is all you have to fix, I'd say that's pretty darn good. lol. It all worked and that's the main thing, the rest is maintenance. Good stuff!
It never ceases to amaze me that you can have a piece of equipment that is working perfectly. Park it in the barn pull it out in the spring and it is broken.
So good to see the prairy green again after several years. Hope it stays this way and you can get several proper harvests and stock up on enough hay to last you through the winter with some to spare.
Thank you for showing how the cutting and bailing is done. I just buy mine done. Would love a green tractor but our reds ones are getting the jobs done. Great to see all the beautiful green pastures. We are rain short here so far. Will be buying more hay sooner then expected. Aka Ranch Life
I lived on a cattle ranch OK. My uncle was greasing the dirks and used his gloved hand to wipe away some extra grease. The chain took his gloved hand and chopped off his 4 fingers. Seeing that chain brought back the memory.
I like the yellow seats in your little car you drive.I hope you have good luck with the hay and grow it from your Ranch. It will be better for the cows and calfs.
Oh our wyoming Life, you sounds excited about haying. I am excited for you. I hope it all works out. We live in Laramie so weather is a big thing here.
For sitting for 3 years the hay equipment seems to be in pretty good condition, considering. You can definitely use the good luck. I hope you get to bale all the hay you need to feed this winter. Glad to see Jeff is still there to help, he's a God's send.
I am definitely impressed. The machinery has been sitting idle for about 3 years, and looks like its good to go. YEs, replacing new teeth, that happened when you last hayed, so we know its not just from sitting. Yes, fresh oil, or hydraulic stuff, yes.....that is to be expected. But, for machinery that has just been sitting around, I would be SOME happy!! A few squirts of 3 in 1 oil, and general maintenance and its good to go!! Thanks for sharing this with us......Bev in Maine P.S. I just noticed your OWL belt buckle..............neat!
Hay hay great news Mike this will help the ranch by saving money providing the equipment doesn't cost to much to fix if needed . Let's cross our fingers everything runs smoothly but it is looking very good right now .
I think your way ahead of game. Equipment just sitting for a year or 2 , you just hope they'll work but yours sitting outside all that time is a miracle. Someone is on your side. I hope everything else goes as good.
You know Mike after sitting three years it looks pretty good on the equipment don't look too bad except for that flat and maybe that that hose but it looks real good the grass looks good and the hay looks good we'll just keep praying that you get more growth and know he'll God bless you p.s. tell Jeff I said hi
Our prayers are with you. Down here in Central Texas, we’ve had great hay seasons for the last couple of years. Last year we got enough rain and only four day over 100. This year, very little rain and we’ve been over 100 for a week and they forecast looks the same as far as they predict it. Oh well, I just hope it’s not like 2011 when we had over 90 days over 100 and 15 of them over 105.
Just received our order of jerky. It's delicious! I started watching your Utube post about 3 months ago ( actually during your 30 in 30) and wait anxiously for each and every post. I've learned quite a bit watching even tho I am a Pennsylvania Dutch farm girl. Love the scenery. It's nothing like the rolling hills and small Amish farms of Lancaster County.
Good luck with haying! We did get some snow and rain so the hay is looking great. The price of diesel is not about 9 bucks a gallon and rising! So with a little luck we should make it.
I have been watching and praying for so long weather, future, and can cattle rancher still make money. U have the land for now but with buying the ranch I pray for your future. Great videos Mike love it.
I would save ur old blades n in spare time which I’m sure is stretched sharpen n grease them..u guys are never ending working.. I praise u as farmers ur amazing n ur showing the good the bad n the ugly
Glad to see you might be able to make some of your own hay this year, its already expensive enough here where I live and we live in an area that gets alot of rain.
Start you a hay to do list, but stop you oil leak, and get a case of grease and some chain lube. That computer might be kinda expensive. Start looking now for one and mower bars or teeth.
So excited not only for haying, branding, etc. but also just the future of OWL. Recently became a Patron, which I've never done for any channel. But y'all are just different and unique in so many ways. Loved the video, keep up the great work 👍
Looks like you folks have quite the setup down there. If I saw that tach right on that baler tractor, you're driving around a little bit of gold there. I have the same baler, I think one of the best made. My opinion. Take Care! Good Luck! Be Safe!
Please don't ever run your hand over hydraulic hose under pressure, if it's a pin hole leak, you could get hyd. oil shot into hand and that would be extremely bad. Excellent channel
Has it been that long? These last several years have flow by. Came up to the round up, fell in love, moved to west SD lol, all since the last time you hayed. Glad to see yall are up n running
Good morning guys ,considering the machines havnt been used for 3 years they are looking good.i pray 🙏 that you get to make your own hay this year I really do.all the farmers around me here in the UK have finished bailing season for now.good luck.
We had some crazy weather in 2019! That horizontal rain we get during our "Cowboy Hurricanes" can be wicked! We was shoveling the hail out of my flowerbeds & our apples got ruined once again due to hail... Maybe this year we'll actually get a crop again... 🤞🏼🤞🏼In August that year was a bad hail... Not long after that we had to have our roof replaced due to the damage it received...
The best thing was you stored them inside the barn and not outside. The hydraulics lines should be check but They would be in much worst shape being stored outside. I hope everything works out for you.👍
The way parts availability is right now, it’s best to get stuff ordered. If you think of something that normally could wear out, I’d order it too. Unless those parts are readily available in your locale.

Never too soon to check equipment. Grease, fittings and hoses. Good stuff Mike and Jeff!! Hope all goes well with haying!!
@Deborah Smith doing great, yourself?
@Deborah Smith im Joe, they misspelled my name and couldn't fix it. I'm from the Buffalo, NY area, and you?
@Deborah Smith its been ok Deb, very busy lately. How's Kansas?
@Deborah Smith wow, good for you!! I'm retired law enforcement. Dont worry. I'm truck driver friendly. Haha. New York State. I was living in Florida for the last 8 years and sold my house and moved here were I was born and raised. Isn't the ranch great!! Love the ranch and Mike and Erin and kids!!

Praying all the grass grows nice and tall and NO hail storms,

Not sure he has learned enough. You never get under the open baler gate without locking it out!!
You never run equipment that’s been setting outside for 3 years without greasing everything first.
For someone who has watched this channel for a long time. This is such a blessing. So happy you will get to hay finally. 😁
Hi to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Sending Prayers to everyone that everyone and everything be alright. Good you are getting the haye for those healthy cows. Have a bless day.
That hay thing looks like a flower lol
Mike is the Man
You have my blessing's. In two weeks you guys will be cutting your own hay. It's awesome when Farmers/Ranchers can grow their own food for their livestock.

Right, he just ran everything with dry bearings.

Sending Positive thoughts for machines, weather, safety and HAY !
Good luck on getting everthing running. No shortcuts allowed on this list. Safety is priority. Thanks for sharing.

Can’t wait to hear how many bales you all get out of your hayfields.
Praying for an awesome hay year. I learned so much today. Thanks for sharing. God bless ❤ you all.
prayers for a wonderful harvest
this is very exciting, cutting hay. Good job, and Thank you God for the rain.
I lived on a cattle ranch OK. My uncle was greasing the dirks and used his gloved hand to wipe away some extra grease. The chain took his gloved hand and chopped off his 4 fingers. Seeing that chain brought back the memory.
Mike i'm so Happy that you will be Haying this year & Jeff your looking Good cowboy !! Love from NJ
Good preventive maintenance. I am like Jeff at 81 I learn something every time a watch your videos THANKS 😊
Nothing runs like a deere, glad to hear you're getting more rain this year.
Get er done Mike and Jeff
You should do a video with Brian and Cole sonne with sonne farms that would be epic.
I like the yellow seats in your little car you drive.I hope you have good luck with the hay and grow it from your Ranch. It will be better for the cows and calfs.

So wonderful to see green again. Bless you all.

Way more than a few squirts, plus some specialty oils for hydraulics v. engine etc..
Dump used oil on the chicle bars to control the rust over storage time.
Awesome video! So happy for you to start getting things ready for haying!
Yes its better to check it out before hand to make sure its ready to go
Hay hay great news Mike this will help the ranch by saving money providing the equipment doesn't cost to much to fix if needed . Let's cross our fingers everything runs smoothly but it is looking very good right now .
@Tyrone Kurt Go Away
Great video, so happy you got rain! Thanks.
Hay! Lol. Where's Matt been! You guys are like the 3 Musketeers!. ? Looking like a good year!
He went home .
Glad to see y'all actually having to go over the hay equipment... That's a good situation to have. Y'all take care.
New meaning to watching the grass grow
Praying for a great haying season!!
I sure love seeing all that beautiful green grass and hay growing! 👍🏼💚👍🏼💚👍🏼💚👍🏼💚
I think your way ahead of game. Equipment just sitting for a year or 2 , you just hope they'll work but yours sitting outside all that time is a miracle. Someone is on your side. I hope everything else goes as good.
Good afternoon glad to see your video about being able to farm the hay. One question are you having the round up event this year.
Its great that you can not only keep the farm going, but get ahead. Farming is the hardest job on the planet.
Relatively minor repairs, for 3 years sitting still, mostly regular maintenance.
Glad to see you got enough rain to produce some hay this year.
You know Mike after sitting three years it looks pretty good on the equipment don't look too bad except for that flat and maybe that that hose but it looks real good the grass looks good and the hay looks good we'll just keep praying that you get more growth and know he'll God bless you p.s. tell Jeff I said hi

Wow... You & Jeff sure had a lot of preparation to get ready for haying...
Hugs & Blessings to you & your Beautiful Family Always 🙏❤️💙💖💖💙...💙(Jeff)🤗✝️
Hope you get a Lot of Hay this Year..
We pray for a good hay situation for all farmers. 🙏
Glad to see you might be able to make some of your own hay this year, its already expensive enough here where I live and we live in an area that gets alot of rain.
Mike your double sickle mower is a rare bird. We do not use them around here. I think the belts last longer if the baler is stored inside.
I'm so happy you get hay this year.
Glad you’ve got rain & the hay fields are looking good you & yours have a blessed day I’m so afraid of those cutter bars & we only ha single bar
Start you a hay to do list, but stop you oil leak, and get a case of grease and some chain lube. That computer might be kinda expensive. Start looking now for one and mower bars or teeth.
Have you looked at the rain harvesting nets? They can even get water in the desert.

By Jeff You are going to have to gave the hay tracker a bath lol have fun.
A used Deere 568 baler goes for 15-35 k depending on the year. Good decision to keep that indoors.
Do you, can you, cut and bale the grass on the side of the highway? It looks extra lush this year .
The way parts availability is right now, it’s best to get stuff ordered. If you think of something that normally could wear out, I’d order it too. Unless those parts are readily available in your locale.
Haying. Has to be exciting times Mike! 🚜❤️🇺🇸
Awesome to see hay equipment out but was wondering if that was a manure spreader in the back ground in the video? If so do you still use it?
Looking like the equip. is in reasonable shape seeing that it's been parked for so long. I've done some haying but only small rectangular bale's. Spent some serious time with hay hooks in my hands during hay season and delivering it as well. The big bale's are kinda a new thing toe as my experiences go back 40 years or so.
hi there i just followed you guys on facebook i go live on facebook sometime with my horses but i love your farm so much
Great video! You’re livin the dream!
Awesome video! Great to hear that haying is in the works. 🐮
