I had a WRX, but the sound of the STI was what made me buy the STI at the end of 2017. Long live the rumble! It's a category in cars by itself with that. Is the reason why the Type-R disappeared from the question when I was purchasing the car. The STI is an awesome car. I love it and the sensation it returns to the driver it's years light ahead of the WRX that I had. I will never buy a twin scroll turbo again. If STI loses the rumble I'll keep mine until one of us die. It's incredible that having developed something as good as that sound Subaru numbed the WRX. Ferrari doesn't offer manual transmission anymore and sells, but to me, a 512 TR or the 355 Berlinetta manuals would be the ones. I prefer a Porsche 911 Turbo from the '90s to the current one. The last 911R is "the" recent Porsche to me. That to give perspective on my choice. The STI is not the fastest car in its group but to me is the one that delivers happiness to the driver unlike no other.
The stock sti exhaust is super quiet. You practically have to put your mouth over the tailpipe to tell it's running. If you want it quiet just leave it stock
The STI iconic boxer rumble is the only thing I miss from my wrx wagon. I'd be in heaven if my FA WRX sounded like the STI in the video. The closest I've come to an original Subaru rumble on my WRX is the Grimmspeed Catless J pipe to a non resonated Invidia R400 catback. Deep and basey, heavy drone and very minimal rasp.
Not cuz I have a STi but the RUMBLE all day. It’s a unique sound, u can identify anywhere “Oh that’s a subie” it just sound amazing in my opinion. Yes that means I choose Ringland Failure over the “new FA” anyway good video and sound👍🏽
HoeLeeFuQQ I drive an older wrx and people always say shit about ringland failure but don’t realize all you really need todo is take care of your car and maintain it well and it won’t happen! I love the classic ej. Although the the FA is more efficient, it just takes away from what the wrx and sti originally was under the hood.

The more I think about it, I lied because the SRT4 sounded pretty good, although I think it had no mufflers from the factory. I traded in my WRX because I needed that rumble in my life.

I have had both the Q300 and the ETS Extreme on the STI. At first , the Q300 was way too quiet, so I switched to the ETS and was impressed. Then I got an Invidia catless dp as well and it's obnoxious af now. I feel bad for the neighbors :( It's a demanding car to drive every day. Sometimes I just want to blend in lol

@@l5248 BRZ's also run boxer engines. The difference most likely comes from the fact that they aren't turbocharged. Turbos muffle exhaust very noticably, and enrich and deepen sound.
Nice video, both cars sound good but I really feel like this video was made for FA owners to be able to sleep better at night. I mean you even mentioned the STI owner thinks the FA sounds "weird" there is a reason one is 10 grand cheaper. In reality though the 2.0 sounds weak even for a boxer, regardless which exhaust but I would take a FA over a shit ass BRZ anyday. Hands down the EJ sounds way more beefy. Don't get me wrong I'm all for loving whatever car you own but for that neck breaking raw Subaru sound comes from an EJ not a FA no matter how hard you try or whoever's STI trunk you swapped with. People that went the FA route spends countless internet hours trying to justify why they bought a FA over an EJ and no matter how much money you dump into your FA or how much faster you make the FA over the EJ. It will never hold the EJ title or sound.

Twig the muffler only changes the volume of the exhaust note. Its the headers and amount of cylinders that change its tone. In this case, the STi runs unequal length headers which are known for making cars rumble, doesnt matter what car theyre on. The WRX runs equal length headers like every other car you seebon the road, making it slightly higher pitched like those cars.

So I know the newer gen 2015+ Subaru runs a twin scroll turbo and it dosent allow for the unequal length exhaust that gives the subarus that boxer rumble its known for... does that only apply to the new wrx? Anthony Coffey the new sti still has the ulh bc it still uses the older ej engine while the new wrx has a twinscroll turbo on the fa20 so it has equal length headers. if you want to get the dumb all you would have to do it get ulh and a different turbo
That STi had no exhaust setup, basically. If he had added a dp + tune & intake. He could get those pops. Even just a tune for it without adding other mods. My wrx pops and bangs without a downpipe or tune. Just running a catback with a CAI.

The Q300 still has big mufflers. Should've got nameless muffler deletes or invidia N1 if you wanted a better comparison. Muffler deletes are definitely going to be louder though

Tomei > R400 on the STi. STi on R400 = drone city. If you get the Tomei however, it's better to get a catted down pipe since catless is obnoxious

Probably took it to a muffler shop and had them cutoff the stock resonator and weld a straight pipe in its place.

STi by a long shot. tbh the WRX sounds like a heavily modded turbocharged Cobalt SS.
yeah the sti sounds a lot more unique. wrx sounds close to all the turbo 4 cylinders out there
Both nice Subys but why is it always videos of exhaust sound when the cars are stationary.....Most cars sound average unless they are pegging it with the engine under load....Thats what I want to hear anyway !

Yeah that's wr blue. I have one in lapis blue pearl and mine is more purple
